I contacted Photon Brothers and they were able to get a tech out in a very short period of time. The tech got us back up and running. Terrell Sanks, in their service department, followed up after our service to make sure we were satisfied and that everything was working properly. My experience with Photon Brothers has been nothing short of infuriating. I want to be absolutely clear so nothing gets lost: the communication, customer service, and basic professionalism I received were shockingly poor, and I deeply regret choosing this company. Photon Brothers wasted 6 months of my time and cost me roughly $17,000 due to their negligence. I repeat, DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES CHOOSE PHOTON BROTHERS. There are many solar companies out there, take your business elsewhere!! This is a company that puts customer service LAST and will throw you under the bus and leave you hanging the when issues arise and they need to do something that inconveniences them or impacts their bottom line despite contracts, written and verbal promises and basic honorable/professional business norms. Our family moved into our new home in June and immediately began comparing solar proposals. I ultimately chose Photon because Sam Johnson (senior sales rep) appeared knowledgeable. I was explicit with Sam about the type of roof and shingle I had--I even sent him the official documentation from the roofing company detailing the type of roof and shingle. He assured me multiple times that Photon could handle it and told me he had built extra labor costs into the contract for exactly that reason. We signed a contract and approved financing. Then came the site visit with the installation supervisor, Drew Perry. I was on the roof with Drew as he inspected everything. He told me directly that the roof was suitable and we were "good to go." Every step of the way, Photon reassured me the system would be installed before year-end so I would receive substantial expiring federal tax credits. Throughout this process, I repeatedly checked in with the project manager, Kaitlyn Martinez. Responses were rare, slow, and unhelpful--but when she did reply, she also confirmed everything was on track for installation before year end. Install day--November 24--was when it all fell apart. Only that morning did the installation team realize they had completely overlooked the shingle type and couldn't install the system, even though I had disclosed this upfront and even though their own supervisor had inspected the roof in person. The install crew told me they messed up and would make it right and still get it done before year end. Kaitlyn (project manager) called--one of the only times she ever did--and assured me there would be no added cost and they would still complete the project by year end, I was reassured again that they would uphold the contract and their promises. That turned out to be untrue. After several incredibly frustrating conversations with Sam and co-owner John Johnson, where I had to constantly call them for updates, I was finally told that Photon would NOT complete the project at all. They openly admitted they made the mistake but refused to honor the contract or their repeated promises because it would cost them more in labor. John specifically told me that--even though the error was entirely on their side--they were not willing to take the financial hit to fix it and I was just out of luck. They refused any sort of compensation for my lost time and money. John initially tried to blame me because I had a difficult roof, then blamed Drew Perry (instillation supervisor), then blamed his Ops team then just told me verbatim "construction is difficult" and I need to understand that, so too bad for me. As a result, I've lost more than six months of time and a ~$17,000 tax credit, all because Photon Brothers failed to do their job, failed to communicate, and then refused to take responsibility for their own mistake. Based on my experience, I would strongly caution anyone considering this company. They overpromise, underdeliver, and when their internal failures come to light, they deflect, delay, and ultimately leave the customer holding the bag. I'd give zero stars if I could. They talked me into getting a Tesla Powerwall 3 since the rebates made it almost free. The battery doesn't charge or discharge properly and they are claiming that nothing is wrong and that nothing can be done. Essentially, I now have the equivalent of a $13,000 inverter. Do would not advise anyone to use Photon Brothers and, whatever you do, don't buy a Tesla Powerwall unless you want to overpay for what is effectively an inverter at this point. Update: Once again, my Powerwall 3 isn't working. It is stuck at 67% charge and stopped powering my house last night. I've now put signs up in my yard that say: "I hate my Photon Brothers installed Powerwall" and I've ordered magnetic bumper stickers with the same statement to put on my car. Signs are going out to some family members that say: "I don't trust Photon Brothers" to put in their yard. Overall, my experience with Photon Brothers has been extremely negative and I strongly warn anyone from working with them. Please note that this is the first time I've left a negative review for a company on Google Maps. I've had large repairs/improvements not go as planned, it happens. A few years ago I had a company install a minisplit heat pump so my family could cool their bedrooms. They were training some new installers and a bunch of the refrigerant line connections leaked. It took two summers to find all of the leaks but I felt that the company was supportive and determined to get the problem solved. While the experience was frustrating, I was always thankful that I had these issues heat pump with that company because I knew they would get the system working. This not how I feel about my Photon Brothers experience. At this point, I hate my Photon Brother's installed Powerwall. It has been over two months of dealing with them and I have no hope that this system will ever run properly. From this post, you can hopefully see that this has been a lot of work for me and no progress has been made. You should probably ask yourself if you want to pay extra for a battery and then end up spending a bunch of time trying to get it working properly. It's important to understand that PB is a installer not a manufacture. Different manufactures have different models. EnergySage.com is great for general research panel efficiency: SunPower: 22.8% LG: 22% REC: 21.7% PB is a certified installer for REC group a Norwegian company that started in 1996. My specific solar panel model number is REC355AA (alpha series with HeteroJunction HJT cell technology (RECgroup.com) My system: 14 REC x 350 watt panels producing 4,900 (4.9 kW) total solar power. To put this number in perspective, a typical 3 ton central A/C system consumes about 3 kW when it's running. Timeline it took about 3 months from initial call to certification. I went though a co-op with city of Denver (SolarUnitedNeighbors.org). Read up on "Net metering" and "Investment Tax credit ITC" renewed 26% for year 2021-2022 Everybody from sales: Krista T. Projector manager: Eric H. And installers: Jerry & Kyle they were all competent in their lane of work. They all praised their management and liked the company culture. Solar can be purchased with cash or financed with a 20-year loan just like purchasing a car or appliance. It's an investment for your house and your money saving won't break even until around year 10. Loan payment will be around $80-150 per month depending on the kW size of your system. Your electric bill will be significantly reduced to nothing but you still have to pay the $6 monthly service fee plus your Natural Gas utility bill. Most panels will have a 25 year warranty but the biggest difference is Tesla SC330 panels only guarantee Output of 80% efficiency at the end of term. REC355AA panels guarantee is at 92% efficiency. I am now on approximately year four of my solar panels installed by photon brothers . My electricity bill has barely decreased and now I also have a $450 month payment on solar panels. The company has never sent anyone out to make sure the panels are operating properly-- despite many calls regarding my current electricity bill wondering if the panels are even working.... so I have $60,000 plastic panels on my roof that look terrible and havent decreased my energy bill. They also recommended using Mosaic financial. This company is a predatory lender who has Hundreds of complaints on BBB from their financing practices. Mosaic put an illegal lien on my property. I won't get into details, but it was a mess that cost me thousands of dollars with lawyers to deal with upon a refinance. When I called photon to discuss mosaics financing practices, I was given the runaround and told there was nothing that they could do. Furthermore, my initial sales guy Sam was completely rude and defensive about the entire process. Honestly, I would do some energy saving things to your home like insulating, high-efficiency furnaces, lightbulbs, etc. anything over solar. In my opinion it's a complete scam. read more

Every time I mention that I have solar on my house, people immediately ask who I went with. Unfortunately I have to tell them it was Photon Brothers. I will always warn people to stay away from this company as the entire experience has been a nightmare. Here's a short list of reasons I say this: They made the process between signing papers and install last 7 months. During this time, the communication was abysmal. I felt like I had to initiate all contact to receive updates. We actually had to start paying the loan well before the system was ever even functional. The install itself was a mess; I got a call in the week after install while on vacation to tell me that they left everything switched on but hadn't yet passed inspections, so it shouldn't have been on. I couldn't turn it off until I was back from an international trip. The same thing happened with the car charger. I had been using it for months before they just showed up one day, unannounced, with someone from the city to do an inspection. I have no idea what is correct or not, but this didn't seem right to me. A month after install, my roof developed a substantial leak directly under the panels during rainstorms. At first PB seemed to care, and immediately sent out technicians to patch up a leaky mount, but when I asked for assistance with roof/drywall repairs, they became extremely defensive and have done nothing but blame my older roof. The problem I have with this is that they inspected the roof before install and told me it was fine. Moreover, I have asked the project manager at least 3x why the consumption monitoring doesn't work on my system. At first the answer was, "we'll look into it." What that means is we are going to do nothing and leave you waiting. Recently I got tired of not having this consumption monitoring feature, which is listed in their sales materials and my closeout packet, so I had an electrician (not with Photon Brothers) come look at my panel. They immediately showed me that the consumption wiring was never installed. Again I asked the project manager and his story is now that it's "impossible" to install on my panel and he tried to claim that this was explained to me, which is a blatant lie. It's clear that they just didn't want to do the work and hoped I wouldn't notice. This entire process has left me very upset. I did a lot of research before choosing a solar company. Reviews for Photon Brothers were very good when I looked, but I can see that now they are catching up with them as other unhappy customers are also positing their reviews. I do not expect PB to read this, but if they do I hope that they will at the very least consider finishing my install by adding the consumption monitoring and giving me the full solar system that I was promised. TLDR: This is a major purchase ($35k) and you deserve good customer service under the care of a company that knows what it's doing. Yes they have their flaws like all businesses (for example, the reviews on their slow responsiveness is true), but hands down they deliver when it counts! Following our original install, the production level of our panels were below the promised amount. I expected a long fight with them to remedy this, but immediately they said they were going to honor their word and install additional panels at their cost. Two years ago we hired Photon, based on a recommendation by a friend who also used them. They added 20 new panels to the existing 10 that were included when we built the house, as well as a pair of power walls. They worked with our roofers to ensure all the stand offs were properly installed, flashed and water tight. The system has been functioning perfectly. Our neighbors discovered an issue with their dryer venting. While we didn't we were concerned and Jake, Photon's service coordinator sent someone over to lift a panel and make everything was OK.. it was. Recently a heavy snow coming off the roof dislodged a piece of the critter netting. Jake again was able to schedule a tech to come over quickly and secured it and checked the rest. We decided on Photon Brothers over Sunrun for 2 reasons even though they cost practically the same with all their perks and both offered perks. 1. Sunrun wanted to put more panels on our roof (meaning less efficient panels). 2. The reviews on Google and Yelp for Photon were better. Sunrun had more negative reviews for how they handle things after installment. We are very satisfied with the workmanship provided. They were very communicative with me. They would call, email, and text when necessary and they were prompt to respond to my questions and concerns throughout. My roof is also a cement tile roof so when they 1st inspected it, they found 6 broken tiles and fixed them while they were up there. They have been up for almost 2 months now. I can track my usage through Xcel and see my production on Photon Bro's app. Overall, very happy customers here. read more

Photon brothers installed solar panels and powerwall batteries and did a fantastic job customizing the install to our requests. We wanted to produce as much solar as our roof could produce and they gave much higher production guarantees than other companies (likely due to them customizing the panel configuration as opposed to companies like Tesla who were super difficult to work with and wouldn't customize panels configurations to maximize production). Unfortunately after the first year our production was lower than expected. Luckily photon brothers added additional panels to exceed their guarantee at no cost to us. Like the other reviews, I have only great things to say: -low pressure sales visit to assess my roof, estimates -very convenient install, took about 2 days. -the big delay was Xcel for the review and metering -once working it has been Zero maintenance. I just turn in my iPhone app once in awhile to check in performance. And then I get a check in the mail from Xcel most months for the electricity I sell back to the grid. Sam Johnson was my sales person. He was very knowledgeable, patient, and answered all the questions I presented over number conversations. After initial plans were drawn up, I was very happy to keep 2 large trees that shade my home and still be able to get solar on the other areas of my room that don't have shade. Photon Brothers was my definite first choice out of the five companies I had estimates from and researched many others. My project manager left Photon Brothers right before installation, only wish they had communicated this and assigned a new one right away, rather than me finding out through an email and requesting a new one. Kaitlyn has followed through and was pleasant to work with as well. Kam & Mitch came today to begin the installation of solar on our home. They were punctual, polite, meticulous, and addressed every aspect we brought to their attention. They worked with us thought-out the day and verified locations of the specifics on the project. Wow, they were at great team! The project passed the county inspection after Photon Brothers had to redo the engineering plans to meet the installation, which took a little over a week. However, the Tesla Powerwall was up and running during this entire time and I had many days that the Powerwall took care of 100% of my electric consumption needs. We now get to wait for 4-6 weeks for Xcel to flip the switch for us to take advantage of the 1kw:1kw net metering by back. Hope this goes smoothly. I highly recommend Photon Brothers, however due to a few communication issues, they didn't get 5 Stars. The upfront sales team was also great to deal with and communicated as one would expect. However, the system is still not approved, we receive sporadic communication at best, and still have no date when they are even setting up for the installation. I will provide another review/update once the install is complete whenever that occurs. We had a system twice this size designed and installed in less than half of the time in CA just a year and a half ago (mid-COVID) with a utility that is FAR less friendly to deal with than Xcel. If you do not have any timeline expectations on an install they may be right for you, but if you want a group to communicate accurately and honestly then I would evaluate all options. read more

After researching and getting estimates from 8 companies I chose PB based on price, customer reviews and responsiveness. There sales rep Krista was joy to work with and very patient as I took 3months and numerous calls before making the decision. It took over 2 months to get HOA and permit approval. My project manager Eric kept me informed thru the whole process. But once we got the go they were lightening fast. Scheduled install for the next week and finished the install in a day. This process with Photon Brothers has been extremely stressful to say the least, in fact I would describe it as a dumpster fire. It started 9 full months ago. I signed the contract for 30 solar panels and 2 Tesla Powerwalls, and set up financing early in October of last year. I was very excited, as my salesman Kristian promised me that he would have the entire system installed before the end of 2022. Needless to say, that was an outright lie just to get me to sign the contract, because here we are now, approaching August of 2023. The installation of all the panels are finally done, however my back up battery system is still not functional eight weeks later. Apparently after my Powerwalls not charging for long enough to anger me, Photon finally called Tesla, and Tesla informed them that Photon installed two major pieces of the battery system in reverse, and Photon has to come out here to fix their mistake. So once again, I had to empty out half of my garage, and sit around all day (still waiting as I am typing this) for Photon to come out and fix their mistake. I would say that this is the most Mickey Mouse company I have ever dealt with, except that would be an insult to Disney, who did develop a good company. So as of right now, my solar system is still not functioning 2 months after the installation. Oh, and we ended up with a leaking roof during the installation, which caused drywall damage inside our house when one of their installers failed to notice that he left three concrete shingles 10 inches below where they were supposed to be. They did eventually fix the roof, however after a dozen texts and phone calls, they have still not shown up to do the drywall repair nearly 8 weeks later. Photon has lots of excuses why this is still dragging on. They are blaming everyone from Xcel Energy to the county government, etc. but in truth they are simply a group of used car salesman who will say whatever it takes to get your money, and then forget about you. I cannot in good conscience recommend Photon Brothers to anyone. I highly recommend you go with a different solar installer. Photon is simply a company that got in over their heads.with jobs, and they have no idea what they are doing. read more

This review is long overdue. We have had solar for over 6 months now and could not be more happy. Andrew was our initial sales rep and was wonderful. He was sure to check in throughout the entire project and offered his assistance as needed. Once the project was complete he was the first to follow-up to make sure we were satisfied. He even helped me turn on our system for the first time! Sierra was our project manager and she was amazing. She was very attentive and answered all our questions in a timely manner. Our installation was held up by city permits, but Sierra was sure to stay on top of it and keep us informed. We had a couple issues after our installation was complete and Sierra was quick to get the electrician out to inspect and get things back up and running. The installers were here for 2 days and they were courteous and communicated well throughout the job. We signed contracts at the end of last year with the estimated installation date of April. Our panels were installed at the beginning of February, which was a welcomed surprise! We are very happy we chose this company to work with! read more

There are many reputable solar panel companies in Colorado. Photon Brothers is NOT one of them. Do not use this company for your solar panel needs. We started the panel installation process in the fall of 2022. Everything seemed to go ok at first, with monthly updates on the county and electric company approval process. However, once installation started in May 2023, things started to awry. First off, Photon Brothers incorrectly informed our loan company, Mosaic, that our panels were installed and operational, thus starting the payment clock with Mosaic...only there was one problem, the panels didn't work. Not only did the panels not work, but I couldn't get anyone from the company to call or email me back for weeks. Once I finally did get in touch with someone at the company, they would promise one thing and then offer another. That is not a great way to engender your customer's trust. The panels continued to fail inspections throughout the summer, which is exactly when you would want your panels up and running. Photon Brothers also caused roof damage during the installation that ultimately had to be fixed by a roofing company. After several failed inspections, a new main electrical output (that came with its own headaches), we finally had solar panels that worked...in September of 2023. In addition to that lengthy process, the app that PB uses didn't work at first, requiring another visit and more troubleshooting. All in all, I wish that I had not purchased solar panels, especially from Photon Brothers, because this company was not worth the hassle. read more

We first brought Photon Brothers out at the end of August 2022. Got an estimate and approved for financing very quickly. We were told it can take quite a while for permitting etc which is understandable. Fast forward to Feb 2023, the project manager encouraged us to get our panels installed without Xcel energy approval of all of the paperwork or we would lose our financing and would have to reapply at higher interest rates. They installed the panels and a battery in February 2023 and we were alerted by the financing company that payments would begin since we now have our panel installation complete. We are in April 2023 and still have no appointment with Xcel to get the panels approved and turned on so we can start using them. No communication from the Project Manager in over two weeks. I would love to blame Xcel but my husband has a friend who works at Xcel and Photon Brothers is the issue! They haven't submitted the paperwork correctly after multiple submissions and direction on what to fix from Xcel. Now the project manager is going out on vacation and we still have no answer on when we might be able to use the panels we committed to paying over $40K for. I full expected delays from Xcel but not from a company who gets great reviews and deals with Xcel on every project. Really disappointed and desperate to get our system up and running. read more

I Photon Brothers installed a solar system for us that was manufactured by SunPower. This past June, 2020, we lost service. Our service wasn't restored in any way until October. This is not Photon Brothers' fault. They contacted SunPower in October. It is now the middle of February and we still have our problem. Intermittent service. Solar panels not communicating with each other. So Tom brothers is waiting on sun power to communicate to them what to do and nothings happening. My wife and I are very angry. And hope that someone will reimburse us for our losses. I would've given Photon Brothers a better rating but they're not incentivized to make sure SunPower is solving the problem as quickly as possible. Right now, the problem has been escalated to engineering and they don't know when they will get back to us. Very frustrating. read more

We had an extremely challenging install with 35 panels across 5 different rooflines. The install crew (Colin, Kyle, Jared, and electrician, Jim) efficiently and safely completed the install and the results exceeded our expectations. The crew was both extremely professional and courteous with a safety first mindset. Jim found an unsafe main electrical wire from the street to the house that had lost its insulation and was a hazard. Jim shut off the house power and Photon Brothers contacted Xcel to fix the dangerous situation. Photon Brothers stayed at the house and fixed the electrical problem after Xcel turned off the main power from the street. The power was back in a few hours and my family is safe. Overall I'm very pleased with the system - it's been generating a substantial portion of my power needs, and it's done so during months with minimal sunlight (largely Jan/Feb). I expect to generate a ton of power once the days are longer and the sun gets higher! They completed the project on-time and at-budget, and the installation looks really nice on my roof, so they got the aesthetics right, too. I highly recommend these guys! read more

Our original seller/installer went bankrupt about a year after our install. When it came time to have a roof replaced because of hail damage this year, the roofing company (Gates Industries) indicated they work with Photon Brothers and highly recommended them to handle our solar uninstall and reinstall. We didn't have to do much directly with PB upfront as the roofing company handled all the logistics. We had the same crew (Grant and Kyle) for both the take-down and reinstall. They were efficient and very personable to work with. Their reinstall was tighter and cleaner compared to the original install as well. And Mika worked with SolarEdge to get our monitoring back on-line as that was lost when our original installer went under. I plan to continue to utilize Photon Brothers for any further solar needs we may have, and certainly recommend them to others! read more

Everything to do with our installation by Photon Bros exceeded our expectation, from our quote through to installation and energization. When it turned out we required more panels than quoted to achieve the output goal, more were added without increasing the cost to us. The installation was completed professionally and cheerfully by a large crew in a day. The panels look great and the inverter and meters were placed as we wanted them. There were no problems when XCEL energized the system. We were particularly impressed by the Sunpower panels and the extended 25 year warranty for all components offered by Photon Bros. Our Project Manager Mark Mueller was on top of every aspect of the project and always a pleasure to deal with. In fact, every Photon Bros employee was proud and happy to be part of the company. I contacted PB to do a battery backup installation on a solar system I have. I spent a lot of time talking with Ryan (Monty ) Montgomery and Nick (project manager). Their knowledge and professionalism was superb. They do install both Solar Edge and Enphase systems. Their bid for the project was the lowest of all installers. As it was I chose to do the project myself for a variety of reasons. During this time however I did witness a PB team installing an electrical system for my neighbor's Tesla.
