First off, a friend of mine had found Meg's work off of Instagram and suggested that I reach out to her. Mind you, I was planning an "enchanted elopement" in less than a week and a half. Luckily, since it was an elopement -- we were pretty flexible and so was Meg! My husband and I had never been to Hawaii so we knew nothing about the islands or Kauai. I tried to research as much I could but was a bit overwhelmed. Meg was more than happy to make suggestions on different vendors, location and what was the best time for shooting. We settled for Ke'e Beach. I am so glad she suggested that because it provided us different types of photos -- jungle, beach, sunset, etc. The timing was also perfect for a natural lighting with the sun and waves. Meg's overall presence and personality matched ours, too. From previous photographers I have dealt with (from my family & friend's weddings), she did not push us to do things we weren't comfortable with. She was so laid back! Also, we aren't the most romantic and subtle type of couple. We are the loud and silly type. She was able to capture us perfectly in the photos! After she spent about 3 hours with us, we went our separate ways. Then a couple of hours later, I received a few sneak peak photos!! How awesome is that! I got the remainder of my photos in less than two weeks. She took more than she had promised too! Now, I want to add that I am in the film & tv industry. He even chatted with us about Kauai along the way and offered to share recommendations for places to go. We got hit with rain several times, and instead of letting it derail the session, James just rolled with it. We ducked under trees, waited out the showers, and he extended our time so we never felt cheated by the weather. We have daughters who are 2 and 5, and anyone with little kids knows how that goes. They got wet, they got sandy, they had their moments, and James handled every bit of it without missing a beat. Somehow he turned all that chaos into gorgeous photos. First and foremost I reached out to about 3 other photographers on the island, the prices were a bit high for a short session. Also because I wasn't familiar with the area I asked the other photographers if they had any suggestions, most of them were pretty vague and didn't give me much feedback. I e-mailed Josh via his website, he replied pretty quickly and I sensed the enthusiasm in his e-mails he suggested a few places in the vicinity of the area we were staying at, I Googled them (all really beautiful) and his prices were very reasonable! He was our dude! Josh is really a chill and nice guy and also very professional (he was early and flexible with our meet time) and makes you feel relaxed throughout the whole session.
