"Life be lifing" and you need your sisters! There are several seating options and even a backdrop for a photo op at the entrance. Awe shucks, I forgot to take a picture of it! This is a very festive place for folks. Hook & Reel is not afraid to celebrate you! We joined in with clapping for every birthday serenade we witnessed. We heard this over a dozen times: ...."Happy, Happy Birthday!!! ....We wish it was our birthday so we could have crab too!!!" Josh! Josh! Josh! He was a great server and conversationalist. Upon returning, I want to sit in his section, please! The hostess greeter and staff all were very nice. The menu choices are abundant here but I had to go for a boil watching the steaming stacks of inflated bags going to other tables. The boil options are vast and range from $16 to $121 depending on what floats your boat. I decided on the Shrimp 1/2 pound boil with garlic butter sauce, mild spice, corn-on-the cob and (2) potatoes. In opening the bag and releasing the steam, was the beginning of a true dining experience. This is why you need the apron and plastic gloves they provide.

Our server was awesome, was quick taking our orders and gave us plenty of time to enjoy without rushing. Calamari that was FIREEEEEEE. So fresh and not overcooked. For our main, we got two shell shockers; one with garlic butter and the other with the H&R Special Blend. Came out hot and fresh, delicious. The restaurant was super cute inside and we got to sing along to three different birthdays (happy birthday yall!) To make a perfect night even better, WE WON A STUFFY FROM THE CLAW MACHINE!!!! Definitely will be back, thank for having us!

The girls at the Enterprise counter of DTW recommended this place as representational of Detroit area fast food. I was told to order the coney dog. A long serene drive down Telegraph and finally, I turn into the driveway that belongs to Nicky D's. The interior is pure 90s liminal nostalgia creepshow (I mean this in the best way). A formidable barrier of plexi separates gen pop from the employees. And those employees, they're actually cooking. Technically, the layout is fast food, but they're doing more than most short order cooks around this country. I got me one of them coney dogs and also a fish cod sammich.... Ok, here's the thing Detroit, the coney dog is not special. A dog with chili, mustard and onions is delicious, ok ok, it is delicious, but is it particularly Detroit? In actual fact, that is a standard dog for many regions. The fish cod sando smacked. That batter or dredge they put on it was crisped up right and had a numberless amount of nooks and crannies. The fish itself was moist and perfectly flaked. Also the service was nice. The girl at the register was like royalty in the way of her manners and comportment. And they are slammed busy.

After that, it went down hill. We asked for mild and was told MEDIUM IS MILD. However, my sister couldn't eat hers due to the seasoning being too spicy! I ate mine because I was hungry and just kept drinking water to cool off, but it was definitely spicy. When we told Tee, she was like "oh well" and went to her next table. The KOOL-AID WAS GREAT! The service was just POOR! I left the tip for the bus boy because he was more helpful than Tee. I'll NEVER COME BACK HERE. I'LL STICK WITH CRAZY CRAB ON TELEGRAPH BY NIKOLAS! It's too bad that a black owned restaurant has such poor service. DO BETTER!!! If I could give ZERO, I WOULD!

On a sunny afternoon, my girlfriends and I had a strong taste for some seafood. We quickly remember…read morethere was a new seafood boil place located on the Westside of the city. Sad to say we were truly disappointed. When we walked in there were plenty of open tables (about 7-10), yet we were stuck waiting for 30 minutes in the hallway of a strip mall. Finally once seated, it took the server another 30 minutes to greet us and come take our order. The plus was that there were already menus on the table. Once we placed our order, the wait was extremely long for some boiled shrimp in a bag. Tables who later came after us were already receiving food and fast service. The anticipation grew, as after so long we were presented with bibs, time passed, then presented with paper for the table, time passed, then finally our food arrived (another hour of waiting for boiled shrimp) I had the shrimp po boy and French fries, both which were pretty good. As we were ordering we tried to place a carry out order. In which, we were instructed to wait as it would be "best" to order closer to the time we leave. The waitress was rude and very soft spoken. Her demeanor was nonchalant and non welcoming. She disappeared and then returned once a hour to accommodate us but failed to check in on our experience. Overall, the food was okay. My friends didn't really enjoy the crab legs and shrimp. They stated it lacked flavor and tasted like straight butter. With our experience with seafood places, i agree with their concern. If you're looking for a great place to talk and catch up, this is definitely the spot for you. They will take forever in the day, even at 1 in the afternoon.
