Sadly, it wasn't just gunk in the USB port, but it was corroded enough that it needed replacing, and the parts and labor came to about a hundred and sixty dollars. I brought my sons pc that I built myself in to have a new power supply installed (didnt want to risk frying everything over a misplaced plug). They said it would be $90 which is very high considering i bought my own power supply but fine. Its a safe bet so i agreed. I go to pick it up and it was $130. When I asked where the other $40 came from they claimed it was for thermal paste ($5 a tube). The thing is, to install a power supply there is absolutely no reason to remove the heat sync so the cpu isnt exposed so you wouldn't need to replace the thermal paste. So the extra charge that I didn't approve and wasn't necessary was forced on me. Furthermore, the fee was "internal cleaning/thermal cleaning" all fans are covered in dust. They weren't even removed much less cleaned so they didnt remove the fan so they didnt remove the heat sync and didnt expose the cpu or the thermal paste. I paid them but they run a disgusting business practice and take advantage of people who dont know any better.

I reviewed some previous statements for what they charged last time and it was $79.99. I asked what had changed and they said it was probably just a one time deal but that is definitely not the price now. With all the being said the first time they did fix my phone screen they left the home button ejected and not flushed entirely with the phone but I figured for the price point that it was OK. I mentioned if this would trigger the warranty and he said that, "it's not a common problem that is brought to us when we fix it so you will need to bring it in," As far as the $120, I just thought applying it towards a new phone was a better option for me.
