A very small & cozy mom & pop shop located inside a small business block. There were already a few people waiting before the store was opened (including us hehe). There were a very few small tables (around 4-5 tables) to sit parties of 2-3 people and maybe 1 table big enough for sit 4 people. We had Beef Combo Pho $14.95 & Grilled Pork Rice Plate $13.95. This was not the most authentic Vietnamese Restaurant we've been to, but their food was served hot and decent enough to satisfy our Viet food craving after days on the cruise without any Asian food. It's just very good food especially for the price. The seating is tight, and there's some tables outside as well, but it's very cute. Lots of cute decor inside. The way tea is served is really cute but a little pricey. It's a glass mug with a soy sauce dipper as a cover to keep it hot and a lime slice plus honey. It reminded me of how my mom gave me tea growing up. The pho was really good. The broth was rich and deep and there was a LOT of bean sprouts to add in. Usually, we put hoisin sauce or sriracha in it to add flavor but this soup really didn't need it at all. It's tangy and not too sweet, which is nice. The place is on the smaller side and they have bright orange decor and plastic chairs. It's casual. The service is kind-- some people said the owner is rude. My experience has been that she's direct but not necessarily rude. For example, I ordered my salad with cilantro and then picked it all out (it said no substitutions or changes on the menu). She noticed and told me next time to ask for it without cilantro. We went with our friend who lives near by. I'd read about this place being a hidden "gem" and that it was "authentic". It's not so undiscovered any more, but it's certainly authentic. We started with a shrimp summer roll. It was very good. In addition to the usual peanut sauce (this was a finger licking version), they also gave us a spicy siriacha dipping sauce. My friend and I shared a grilled pork rice noodle salad bowl. It was a large enough portion. The pork was fantastic -- well grilled and flavorful. No skimpy meat here. Also carrots, lettuce, cucumbers, rice noodles, and cilantro. We used the sweet vinegar "sauce" as our salad dressing. I also added a bit of hoisin to my pork. The dish was delicious. My husband ordered a pho bowl with pork. There were bean sprouts, basil, jalapeños and lime wedges on the side to add. We all got a taste of the savory broth, too. He said it was very very good -- none was left to take home. They had quite a number of other items I would like to try -- their dumplings; their banh mi sandwiches; wings; 5 spice shrimp, etc etc. Forgot to say how much my friend liked her lemongrass mint tea. So aromatic! She brought home what she didn't finish drinking there in a go cup... This is a place you could go back again and again and not be bored. I can't believe I have to post this, but I am updating my review in response to the owner: Let it be noted I myself am an immigrant from Colombia. Never did I state that I had a problem with the fact that we had to speak Spanish, after all it is my native language. Never was that or will be a problem for me. I congratulate her for her achievements whole heartedly. DEAR OWNER: You are so defensive on the fact that YES there was a very clear misunderstanding that we ordered the appetizer shrimp salad and received something else. Now mind you, as a customer that is not familiar or aware with the menu and what every dish has it makes sense that one would not realize they got a different salad than the one WE CHOSE. We didn't think anything of it, assuming we received what we had ordered and pointed to. It would be a very different case if I had ordered a sandwich and received a soup. I'm sure the outside cameras will show us showing the menu to the waitress as we spoke about the salad and ended up choosing the app. Shrimp salad. In regard to the tip, DEAR OWNER YOU JUST LIED TO EVERYONE ON YELP. SEE IMAGE INCLUDED TO SHOW I IN FACT DID TIP, $4. That should bring your credibility into question for everyone to see. I am also uploading the receipt of the corrected order to prove that I in fact did leave a tip. I am many things but a liar is not one of them. I will admit, its not the usual generous amount I tend to leave due to the lack of service and the waitress not owning up to the misunderstanding and dodging accountability. What was a simple misunderstanding that could've been handled gracefully on the owner's behalf was blown way out of proportion, blaming the customer and then guilting us by announcing that she would be making the waitress pay out of her own pocket. This left is with a horrible taste in our mouths (metaphor) about the way you manage your business. But that is for you to decide and for us, as previous customers, to simply hold an opinion on and leave our honest review. Mistakes happen. We know that. But the way you handled that was VERY UNPROFESSIONAL, RUDE, AND HOSTILE. I sincerely hope that you treat you employees with much more kindness than what you showed your customers that day. We moved inside because of the insane amount of FLIES surrounding us. It was unbearable as they kept trying to land on our food. We aren't the type of people to come down on a restaurant for having food that is not that impressive. Of course we ate everything, we were hungry...we wanted to eat. Unless food is inedible or tasted horrible we would've left it behind. Notice we did not say it tasted horrible, it simply was not all that. Very average. I wish you the best, and hope you can learn how to handle conflict and criticism much better than you did with us.
