I have had some experience with PT facilities and PT therapists in my 70 years of accidents,…read moresurgeries and well, just getting old. So I would like to take a minute to explain why I chose Harper PT and why I am still there after completing my 4th week. First of all, I am so over wearing a mask - the choice is yours at Harpers! Secondly, I do not like going to PT, therefore I made sure to find a facility and therapist to meet my needs, despite my doctor writing a script for a facility that the practice uses. My goal was to find a therapist to assist in restoring functionality by improving my mobility and relieving pain quickly and efficiently. So I spent a little time searching for recommendations, reviews and robust PT facility websites before making a selection. Then I called my insurance company to make sure they covered my selection. Here is what I looked for and why I choose Harper's PT over all the other facilities in northwest Phoenix. I wanted an established facility; as well as an experienced therapist with certifications that specialized in areas I needed treatment. I looked for a spacious facility with a pool, equipment variety, clean, safe and conveniently located. Harper's has been around since 2002 and met all the other expectations. Harper's transparent website includes facility amenities, services they offer and staff's credentials/specializations. I selected therapist Ty because he was a good match for several reasons. He has been practicing for over 20 years and many of his specialties met my needs; for example: Certifications in Manual Therapy (deep tissue - the best!), Functional Capacity Evaluation, ASTYM etc.). Ty is positive, knowledgeable, patient and compassionate but not a push over. He is a no-nonsense professional, so know that a bit of whining will not get you out of doing what he has planned LOL. He is a hands-on therapist and spends much more than '5-minutes' a session with his patients before relying on his assistants to take over! Oh, and there was 'no honeymoon period,' meaning - great in the beginning, but slacking off by week two. Ty has been consistent with the plan we worked on when we first met. The plan and schedule includes warm up, deep tissue manual therapy, review of current exercises, with intensity build up and introduction of new exercises. I like how Ty explains why we're doing an exercise, then demonstrates how to do it, and double checks for understanding. The assistive staff at Harpers have been amazing, in my experience. I have found them to be professional, personable, knowledgeable and committed to the patients. BTW - my doctors have been as impressed as myself, with the progress I have made with physical therapy. Thank you Harper's PT! My unsolicited review is sincere and I enjoy giving credit where credit is due. Throwing forehand shots for about 8 of those 15+ years finally caught up with me. For the past year, I have been trying to work through the pain myself with little success and diminishing skills. After going to Harper PT for the past 6 weeks, I am able to throw with minimal pain and feel much stronger than when I started. After a lot of negative experiences with medical offices, Spooner was a huge breath of fresh air! Literally every person on the team from the front desk to the therapists themselves are friendly and helpful. I worked with PT Julia and tech Chris, and they were both phenomenal - true experts in what they do. I also met with PT Alix a few times, and she's equally amazing. I went in afraid I was going to spend a lot of time and money only to be told I needed surgery. Instead I walked out three months later with a shoulder that is almost entirely healed, and an easy-to-follow program to do at home. I still can't get over what a pleasant experience this was from start to finish. They have truly set the bar for all other providers I see in the future. A few things that set Spooner apart from other medical offices I've been to: 1. They offer a free consultation. If you're not sure physical therapy can help you, go in for a consultation! You'll get an honest answer. 2. They did not pressure me to schedule excessive or unnecessary appointments. I went in thinking I'd need to go 2-3 times a week and was pleasantly surprised that they recommended once a week, and then eventually every two weeks. 3. The billing is transparent and honest. My insurance wouldn't give them a price ahead of time, so Spooner had me pay an estimate based on what other clients with my insurance paid. When my claims were processed and their estimate was slightly higher than my contracted rate, they immediately applied all of the credit from my overpayments. I didn't even have to ask for it - I just walked into my appointment, greeted by the pleasant news that I didn't need to pay that day because I had credit on my account! 4. There were never any surprise charges or codes added on to my appointment. When Julia suggested we try dry needling (highly recommend btw), she made it clear there was no additional fee, and that was accurate information. 5. I feel very set up for success doing exercises at home. They have a really helpful app with my personalized program in it that includes videos of how to do the exercises, and they also gave me printed versions as well. (If you want physical therapy to be successful, you MUST do the exercises at home!) I could go on and on about how great Julia and the Spooner team are. I really can't recommend this practice highly enough.

Scheduling is insane. It took me over 12 weeks to get in even though I told them I only had access…read moreto my insurance for 15 weeks and I'd initially been referred for six sessions. The scheduling person promised me they always had tons of openings if I got on their wait list, but the openings never came. (Then they told me it was because they kept those for established patients, but those also never opened up for me, so I think it's just extremely hard to schedule--and they can't or won't accomodate people who may need to get in sooner.) The physical therapist is pretty good and gives a lot of feedback. Some of the techs are good, others seem to be on a bit of a power trip or not paying attention and kind of just going through the motions. I think I had a different tech every time I went in. Working with the techs is often about the same as doing the exercises at home (with added bike/treadmill time); they don't really give good pointers or anything. Spooner is very slow about updating exercises in the app. You basically have to remind them. I'm glad the AC works again; it gets pretty hot in there. Also didn't realize there were more convenient locations when I booked, but that was my fault.

Been coming here for years, at first I was very skeptical, but definitely worth the try…read more Let's clear something up at the top, Sport Cryo and Kimberly is the real deal. Kimberly is truly knowledgeable and skilled but in addition, Sport Cryo has the real cryotherapy experience and not just a walk in meat locker like you may also find. My original reason for trying Sport Cryo was low back pain. But what I found with the whole body experience was that I experienced the whole body benefit. I took advantage of the packages and originally I was doing local cryo which is using a hose and locally applying the liquid nitrogen gas to the area of most pain. The extended cooling reduces inflammation in a concentrated area. As well as the local cryotherapy, I was also brave enough to start full body cryotherapy which is basically where you are almost (modestly) naked in -300s for 3 minutes. Wow, the first time is a shock, but only after a few times the shock wears off and you start to feel comfortably cold. This helps too with inflammation and swelling, pain etc. But I had two other surprise benefits. 1) I didn't have to wear splints at night on my hands as the full body really helped my pinched nerves in my neck. I really didn't realize this was helping here. The improvement with my neck lasted months. (I stopped cryo for a while and restarted again, hoping for the same experience) 2) my body started to feel better about being cold, in drafts and sitting under ceiling fans, which before cryp would really aggregate me and cause me more pain. In addition, I spent a week in Toronto for work in February, -14F and didn't even need a coat outside when walking. So try it, you don't have to buy packages, but you will.

Not only does he provide relief, but he also takes the time to explain why you're experiencing the pain, which has been super helpful. After working with him, I've improved my posture and made my home environment much more ergonomic--small changes that have made a big difference. Also, my insurance covers my visits, but I've the cash pay options are very affordable and there's even "packages" you can purchase that includes multiple treatments at a discounted rate.. They have a lot of treatment options including PRP which is Platelet-Rich Plasma. It's a treatment that involves using your own blood to promote healing in areas of injury or inflammation. I haven't asked about this but am excited to find out more. A huge shoutout to the whole office staff! Ariana, Mayra, and Cass (sorry if I've missed anyone else) are always so friendly and efficient. He should have assisted her, and walked with her until she reached the bike. Then sets her up and walks away and goes and chatty chats with one of the 12 year olds. Unbelievable . I have been associated with other PT facilities..around,,and this is the worst.. These are older patients they have coming there,,and it is appalling they are taking advantage of them.
