Tired, Busy, and Now Gone: The KD Fence Experience…read more I want to be clear: I never actually got a fence. What I got was a masterclass in creative excuse-making. Appointment #1: No-show. The explanation? Their salesperson was tired. I'm not joking. Tired. I too am tired, Kevin, tired of waiting. Appointment #2 (rescheduled, confirmed, circled on my calendar): No-show again. This time: car brake issues and "bandwidth." I didn't know fence companies had bandwidth problems, but here we are. I called Kevin twice the day of the second no-show. Got the runaround both times. So I called their corporate office in Buffalo and spoke to someone named Jeff, who assured me he'd be reaching out to Kevin and the owner. I'm still waiting to hear what came of that conversation. I suspect I always will be. For context: I have a building permit in hand, materials staged, a dog who's been attacked five times by the neighbor's dog, and a project that has been ready to go for weeks. KD Fence had every opportunity to show up and do the work. They simply chose not to. If your schedule is flexible, your standards are low, and you enjoy being stood up twice -- KD Fence is the contractor for you.

I did the research and talked to 4 companies before choosing Pregent and then .... at least a dozen other houses got the benefit. When I was getting the quote from Joe, my neighbor across the street and one a couple houses down also asked for quotes. Then, when they were doing the work, people came out of the woodwork to ask them to do their driveways too. My new driveway is incredible. It was so worn down the dirt was coming through at the end. They fully replaced it, expanded it to be double width, and even put in a really nice Cambridge paver walkway to my front door. It totally transformed the look of my house. They got all the work done in two days and were really well organized in that they were able to simultaneously time it to stagger the different phases of paving and do multiple driveways at once. They had at least a dozen guys which made them really efficient.

We even had the added challenge of a product color issue which they noticed after the sunlight hit it a certain way. We went with oversized corners, and wide width window frame caps to keep it period correct, which again challenged the crew. Scott estimated that the project would take up to a month even with a 3-4 man crew. He indicated that once they started my project they would work on only my project until it was completed. Pricing was agreed upon as well as costs for overages such as replacing rotten plywood, etc. Even though they used more plywood than we agreed and I had a couple spots with wood damage, we were not charged any additional for the project. We made several after the fact upgrades (6" gutters instead of 5", hidden soffit, etc. We were only charged the difference in the cost of the materials even though some of my requests required additional labor. We were very happy with the attention to detail that the crew had. They went above and beyond on our front entrance and garage doors to match the Azek trim that we had requested. Once they started our project, they worked on it exclusively every day (except 2 awful weather days) until it was fully complete. It took 3 1/2 weeks to complete. The pricing was not the lowest, but was far more reasonable than most of the other quotes that I received and the crew was skilled and efficient and they took pride in their work. Our home looks great and we have received many compliments from the neighbors. We highly recommend Precision Exteriors to anyone needing siding work in the Capital Region!

The last time we had our driveway sealed (which is a large driveway with cracks, lawn overgrowing…read morethe sides, and in places weeds growing through it) we had a company come and they did a fantastic job. They did a thorough job edging it, they filled in the cracks, and they pulled the weeds. They also charged us almost half of what Egan charged us now, though that was in 2020. That company doesn't appear to be around now, so we looked online for reviews and after getting several went with Egan. Their estimate seemed detailed enough (we had also asked for other quotes to do other things besides sealcoating) but when it came time to actually lock it in we discovered that the low number wasn't the correct number. We had to add another number too, which made the job a lot more (though still less than the others). Arranging a time to get it done took four calls spread over several days, but they finally showed up. And their work was less than spectacular. Yes, the driveway is mostly black. But they missed some spots along the edges; they didn't bother to fill in any cracks; they actually applied the tar over weeds in situ (sort of like those online pictures of highway striping crews painting right over roadkill) leaving black plants sticking up; and they didn't edge everything properly first and part of their tar was just brushed on dirt which was on top of the driveway which instantly peeled off a day later. Now, to be fair if I had to do this all myself (not a fun job) I doubt I could have done it much better. But for $1400 we expected more. In the future I will make sure the contract clearly specifies crack filling, full edging, etc. Since their quote was the lowest and most of my driveway now has sealcoat on it I can live with it. But I will likely look elsewhere next time as you get what you pay for. Maybe our previous company spoiled us with amazing service?
