This is a yummy pho restaurant close to the Oklahoma University (OU) campus. The appropriate football team is the Sooners. Not until today did I realize from looking at the menu that the name "Pho Winner" is referencing the Sooners. Their Hu Tieu broth (which is pork broth) is wonderful. I went to the restaurant on a weekly basis since the pho, soup, and shrimp spring rolls all tasted so delicious... I often invited my Japanese friend to the restaurant since it is such a nice restaurant that deserves to be recommended. My friend works here, he is a very nice and helping person. My son was at this shopping center at another establishment and apparently parked in the owner's of this restaurant spot. Mind you that it was unmarked (only said for patrons of the shopping center) which he was. Phong Nguyen towed his car and later when my some went back into the restaurant to speak to him about the tow payment which he should be responsible for since he illegally towed his car, he kicked my son out of his place. One can only wonder how he may treat his employees. If you want assigned parking you should put your name on it. read more

The bosses aren't very nice to their staff and they constantly fight in the back. In addition there were times that I was there that sewage started to back up into the restaurant and they did not close down or stop cooking. The staff were incredibly displeased and forced to stay and work. Food was good but considering they let sewage waste back up in the kitchen and dining area and kept cooking wouldn't recommend eating there at all. The waiter Gerardo seems to always be in a bad mood when there is a rush and constantly talks bad in Spanish about the customers. Calls them cheap amongst other things. The staff are mostly young students that are always on their phones or bringing in tablets or art supplies in the guise of doing homework but don't pay attention to the customers well due to this. read more

I really disagree with the food reviews out here in OK...I think people get so hung up on things like excessive portions and comfort food on top of comfort food and my taste is just not for those things so I am finding I often vastly disagree with local reviews. I am new to the area so still feeling it out for myself, yada yada. Well, this place has the best pho broth in Norman hands down. It has the rich spicy flavors that make pho, pho! Much of the broth have tried in OK is watery and not punchy. It tastes like they threw a pho bullion cube in some sink water lol no but really this place has reviews of people bitching about the portions, which are not small portions at all. I think of pho on several occasions - cloudy, cool weather days, when I don't feel well, when I want to go out to eat and I need it to be somewhat healthy. I don't crave it all the time. I know good pho when I taste/smell it and Pho Winner has great pho broth. That is honestly the secret to good soup - the broth. My office smells amazing! I got my chicken pho (P13) Togo. The man at the counter was so friendly and genuine. He was a real pleasure to talk to. When I'm in Norman OK and have the need for good pho, I will only go to Pho Winner! Doesn't look like much when you walk by it the experience inside was amazing. I came on a Friday during labor day weekend around 6:30 pm so it was expected to be busy. Especially since it's basically right on the campus of the University of Oklahoma. Yet the experience was still an amazing one. There were two girls working, but only one was waiting tables (the other girl seemed to be answering the phone, making the drinks, and being the cashier). Yet, they were both amazing. It was busy and I could see that they were being run down, yet the girl waiting tables was still attentive and cheerful each time she came to a table. It was my first time trying Vietnamese cuisines so I had lots of questions that she happily answered even though she was most likely very busy. The food itself was good as well. It was my first time trying Vietnamese food so I don't have much to compare it to, but I ordered an order of spring rolls and a Pho Dat Biet. Both food items were amazing. The waitress was attentive and she could most likely tell I was a bit confused because she helped me with the sauces to add to the dish. The spring rolls were amazing and the peanut sauce that came with them was even better. I was tempted to ask for bread or rice to finish it all. The pho noodles were at the perfect temperature of not too warm but not too hot, and they tasted amazing. The beef was all so fresh and tender and chewy. The broth was really flavorful, and the sauces really just enhanced the flavors. There was a plate of vegetables that came with the dish and the waitress kindly explained what each one was to me and I really recommend adding a bit of lime to the pho at the very least, but they all really tasted amazing when added to the pho. Overall, I really recommend this place. The food was great and amazing, but I think the environment and especially the two workers really made the experience 100 times better for me. The waitress always made sure my water was filled up, and I could see she did the same for all the tables. She was kind and joked around with the kids, and was always respectful towards everyone. It's really something amazing to see in teens and young adults these days. She was quick to clean up after people left so new people could be seated and even though it was busy, she still managed to start a conversation with each table and made the whole dining out experience more enjoyable. The other girl behind the counter was amazing as well and made enjoyable small talk with me as she checked me out. I really just found it amazing that these girls can still be so kind and attentive towards all the customers when they both seemed to be run down with more customers coming and phone calls. I really look into these things when dining out because while the food can be one thing, the staff working can really change the whole experience and I have nothing but praises for both the food and the staff. The portions here are small compared to most local Vietnamese restaurants -- almost embarrassingly so in comparison. The pho broth itself is superb, but the high prices and small portions really leave me flat -- you know, just like the ostensibly carbonated drinks here almost invariably are. (P.S.: It's really not difficult at all to change your CO in a fountain. Seriously.) No website, either -- not a good idea in a college town whose visitors often shop ahead trying to decide where to eat while in town. I think this place just relies on its great geographic placement for its success. (It's VERY near the University of Oklahoma.) Very solid Vietnamese joint near campus corner. I went to lunch at Pho Winner on a Wednesday. The place was over half full, around 75% or so. There are only a few parking spaces in the front, but if they are full, don't be deterred. There's parking in the back as well. I sat down and was immediately greeted by a server. I perused the menu and went with a large P8. I can't remember the exact ingredients, but I know it had eye of round and fatty flank. The soup came out in less than 10 minutes. Really, closer to 5. It was piping hot, so after I added my usual suspects (bean sprouts, basil, jalapeno, several swirls of sriracha) it was cool enough to eat. The broth is solid, flavorful and rich. It had a nice color. I didn't feel like it had very much meat, even a large bowl. Now, it's only $7, so I can't really complain about the value because it's well worth that price. But, for a large I expected more meat. I'll know this next time and order extra. But, each of the cuts was good: thin and flavorful. Nice marbling, but not too much fat. One issue I had was with the noodles. When the pho came out, they were in a huge ball in the bottom. I basically couldn't get any noodles without lifting up the entire ball. So, I really had to work and stir to get the broth to loosen up the noodles. Once I did it was fine, but this was annoying and not something I've experienced at other joints. I'll absolutely return, it's a quality place with great service and very reasonable prices. Highly recommended. read more

But, there's only a few 'library-appropriate' snacks, and I easily got sick of fries and granola bars. Pho Winner's spring rolls are a great alternative for a study snack. Would not recommend at all. I went on a Saturday and my waitress was a young Asian girl college student. The food was mediocre at best but the service was just absolutely horrible. The waitress I had spoke so quietly I could barely understand what she was asking me. I understand that some people just talk more softly but you can't work in the service industry and talk so softly that I had to ask for clarity many times before I could understand her. Past times I went the food always came out at a reasonable time but this time it took awhile even though I heard the bell going off indicating that my food was ready multiple times before it was finally brought out. Additionally, the tables were wet and sticky when we first sat down, even the chairs were wet. Portion sizes seems to be getting smaller and smaller every time I go as well. What annoyed me the most was when I leave and the waitress came to clean the table, I barely had just walked out the door when I heard her complain that a $10 tip wasn't good enough for the mess left behind. The mess itself was just that I didn't stack the plates and cups up, which I didn't think the customer had to do.
