After a terrible experience at San's Sandwiches, my family and I headed to Pho Tuoi for dinner. The first thing we saw was a bunch of unbussed tables. However, we were quickly acknowledged and seated so we decided to ignore the red flag and stay. The two staff members working were polite and working as quickly as they could, but it was very clear that the restaurant was severely understaffed. As a result, the service was extremely slow. On the bright side, our food was hot. However, the food was not very flavorful. It was not good or bad - it was just okay. Amazing Pho Soup. My Girl and I come here every weekend. We basically made it a tradition. I always take my friends here whenever they visit us from out of state. And they LOVE IT. My boyfriend and I stopped by to try this place out since it was close by and newly opened. They're still going through their soft opening, so their menu is pretty limited, but we didn't mind since that made the decision making process easier. The only two options for noodles at the time of soft opening is bun bo hue and beef pho. The menu was slightly confusing for the beef pho. Under it, there were meat toppings listed in bullets A-H. However, it was unclear whether that meant we had to pick one of the options, we could pick and choose which one we wanted, or the bowl came with all the options. After asking the waiter about it, he didn't seem to understand our question, but recommended that if we wanted everything on there, then we could order the beef pho special. We settled on the special, and were each brought a small plate of vegetable and herb garnishes. The pho here seemed to be more of a northern Vietnamese style of pho since the noodles used in their pho were thicker, and the broth was less strong and more mellow. I enjoyed the food, but I think my boyfriend likes the southern Vietnam style of pho better. The service here was good though, and when we went to the register to pay, the cashier asked us what we thought of our meal. My order of Rib-Eye Pho was very flavorful and priced right. The broth was hearty and actually some of the better pho I've had. Same can be said about the spring rolls; fresh, packed with meat, veggies and noodles. An easy 4 stars. What was unacceptable and completely off-putting was the service or lack of it. My wife and I were the only ones eating on a Sunday afternoon. There were 3 staff sitting at a table 2 booths from us, never once did they return after bringing food. After 15 mins. of no water, I was forced to get up and get the pitcher and fill our glasses myself. When Siracha is a condiment, keep the water glasses filled! I never received an apology, just a strange look, as if they couldn't understand what I was doing. He then brought the bill and when we asked for a to-go container which was set on the table as he walked away, not even an offer to package my wife's remaining soup. Thankfully I had cash to pay and didn't have to wait for him to take my card and process the transaction. We are on a roll! We were at Broken Rice last night and thought we'd try out Pho Tuoi for lunch today! Upon entering we had a little giggle because our waiter last night was also our waiter today. He said he works at both places so we knew we'd have friendly service again today. The menu is very limited. Located in the burgeoning Little Saigon area of Gladstone, this place specializes in Pho and Bahn Mi. The space is large and disorganized. The tables and booths are not aligned, chairs are disheveled, there's straw wrappers on the floor and various boxes of restaurant supplies like cups and to-go containers sitting near the back room doors. The kid that sat us was pleasant, he brought out some water and made a point of filling our glasses (thanks previous Yelp reviewer). The table appeared clean, but the flies were distracting while eating and trying to speak with my dining companions. They have three sizes of Pho kid, regular and large. Knowing how large a regular bowl of Pho is, I tried to order kid size, but they wouldn't go for it. They also distinguish between regular and traditional Pho noodles, but they appear identical except for width and in any case, I didn't get thicker ones I ordered. The menu has all beef with choice of ribeye, brisket, flank, fat brisket, tender, tripe, skirt and meatball. They also have chicken and vegan - no pork and some add ins like rib, onion and egg. I ordered the Vegan Pho. There is no description on the menu, but my Pho broth was clear and presumably made of vegetables. The contents included mushroom, onion, large chunks of tofu. The bowl was served with fresh bean sprouts, basil and lime. The flavor of anise, cloves, ginger, cardamom and fennel were pleasing, luscious and savory. I also got the Bahn Mi Chay. Made on the standard baguette, which was fresh and chewy and filled with carrots, daikon, jalapeno, cilantro and what I believe was a well seasoned tofu, but it was hard to tell and the menu was not giving up any secrets. The sandwich was not generous, but was absolutely excellent. Great flavor, creamy, crunchy, fresh and delightful. I can't wait to try it somewhere else. We had the spring rolls, the egg rolls, and a big pho beef bowl. The egg rolls and spring rolls were what you would expect from a Vietnamese place. The pho is where this place should get credit for being above average. Broth isn't overdone, noodles were good, and there was an appropriate amount of "chaff" (scallions, etc). My husband saw this spot while working and decided it should be our first Pho hit here in Kansas City. So this place is nice. Its very open which is a plus when you have kids. It is clean and the food is great but everything else, for lack of a better word, sucked. We sat and waited for 15 minutes before anyone approached us. By then we were ready to order so we placed our order. We waited an HOUR before getting 3 of the 5 dishes that we ordered. We started eating and waited another 10 minutes and still had not received the appetizer we ordered and the meal for our kids. We brought it up to the waitress and she brought out the appetizer, which was cold. A few minutes later they needed reminding again so we mentioned our last dish and finally it was brought out an HOUR AND A HALF after we placed our order. There was a family of 10+ who walked in JUST before us and when we received our last dish they were packing up and leaving. I have NEVERRRR gotten anywhere near the word discrimination in a Yelp review but i'm gonna say it..they DISCRIMINATED HARD AF with us. I looked around and saw everyone getting served and I knew our place there after an hour of waiting and watching. New restaurant, grand opening. They had a soft opening menu with a few items. The Goi Cuo Tom Thit (spring Rolls) with peanut sauce was very fresh and I could eat just the peanut sauce alone. Attached is the chicken pho. On the side of the bowl you can see the bone-in chicken my sister picked out of her bowl. She also saw what she called "micro feathers" on the meat and when she pulled it long hair came out. 2/3 phos had actual hair in it. The broth was not flavorful, there was no cilantro (a must for me), and the service was slow. I left feeling unimpressed and gross. The beef was very fatty. The place itself is pretty clean and cute. Even my son made a comment about why it was taking so long. Our server didn't really know much English because I asked him for a fork 3 times and he never came back with one.
