In our frequent travels through Staten Island, we often find ourselves looking for a place to grab a quick bite and this place, located in a strip of restaurants and businesses along Page Avenue near the Outerbridge Crossing, is a real gem. Open only 4 months, it seems to be catching on; after we were seated, the dining room began to fill up with several parties dining in and a number of carryout customers. My wife and I shared Goi Du Du, the green papaya salad. It was phenomenal- Topped with 4 large grilled shrimp, it boasted plenty of bright, fresh papaya, mango and grape tomatoes in a tangy lime dressing. The perfect funk of fish sauce, mint and ground peanuts, nudged along with the gentle kick of hot chilis, rounded out this refreshing start. Next, we decided to split the beef short rib phô, and it's a good thing we did. I can't imagine one person alone finishing this gigantic bowl of soup. Again, the ingredients were fresh tasting and beautifully prepared; the tender, unctuous meat played perfectly against the rich, complex broth. Our cordial host/server graciously brought us extra bowls and utensils to accomplish the sharing. We both chose Thai iced tea to drink but really, just one of the huge cups would have been plenty for both of us. We both agree we can't wait to revisit Phô Page the next time we're in the area. read more
