So, the waiter brought an iPad over with the menu loaded, Thank you. We started with the Crispy Shrimp. Fresh, hot, perfectly battered. It was served with a very sweet dipping sauce. It was mouthwatering delicious (without the sweet dipping sauce!) We tried the Curry Fried Rice with Shrimp, and the Volcano Chicken. My wife added a Coconut Iced Milk Tea. Excellent flavors in the fried rice. Now the Volcano Chicken was fantastic, although not quite what I was expecting. It comes out on a fajita type skillet, scorching hot. It was a bed of cabbage, carrots and a pile of fried battered chicken. The waiter then poured on the sauce and the volcano erupts. Any uncovered body parts need to be kept back a safe distance. The food needed to set for a couple of minutes before eating. Be careful!!!. It was though, exactly as described. Chicken (a large amount) covered in a sweet sauce. I was hoping for more spice/tang and a little less sweet. Even though it was very sweet, it was very good. The portions were large. Either of the meals was enough food two people. Yeah, and the fried rice (on both meals)! Fresh with perfect texture, loaded with scrambled egg, bean sprouts, nice seasoning and green onion. Enjoyable, some of the best I have had. They said they were training her to manage the cash register and she seemed to take that responsibility very seriously. They have three spice levels- mild, medium and spicy. They were surprised when I chose spicy so I hesitated for a second, thinking it might be too much. Unfortunately, I think they forgot to add the peppers because it wasn't spicy AT ALL. That was the only downside for me. We ordered everything to go since there's no seating area and the food came out pretty quickly. We also tried the pot stickers (7 per order) and the spring rolls (4 per order), which were amazing! My niece really like their fried rice and wants to go back again. Finally, the sizes are extremely generous. I ate four times after taking it all to go. Amazing value! Well Yelpers, I've found my new fave Northwest Arkansas restaurant! TBH, I wasn't sure what to expect when I arrived. It looked like a modernized restaurant with an open kitchen. I opened the door to the restaurant and waited to check in and a handsome young boy asked if I had reservations and I advised I didn't and he asked if I wanted to sit indoor or outdoor. He grabbed a menu and helped me to my table. I was quickly greeted by a staff member and given a glass of water and was told that there isn't an assigned server but that multiple staff members will work together to attend my table. After eating American and Italian food all week on my business travels, I was craving some authentic simple home cooked food and this location brought me virtually home for dinner. For those of you that know me or have been following my review journey, have gotten to know my household ethnicities. When I saw the House 1830 Menu, it was a delightful mix of Vietnamese and Laotian food! The color purple was present from accent walls by the kitchen to my cloth napkin on the plate sets, to the "seasonal" menu font color all tie together with staff uniforms including the outdoor purple umbrella above the outdoor seating space. They even have custom pillows on the bench seating with the House 1830 logos. Susana, one of the owners came to greet me and asked if I've been here before or if it's my first time. She shared that her husband Binh was the head chef today and many patrons typically think it's a fusion restaurant but it's really a family inspired menu that keeps the food as authentic as possible. Binh is Vietnamese and their sister in law Bé is Laotian. I didn't have the pleasure of meeting Bé as she was celebrating her birthday elsewhere as she should. Susana shared that her contribution is the inspired cocktail menu...which had so many yummy options that you don't see anywhere else. They had a Lychee Martini on the menu but I see it often everywhere so I ordered the Longan Martini to try and it was delish! I started with my roots and ordered a Vietnamese House Sampler described as a sampling of the crowd favorite starters. Cha Gio | Mini Banh Xeo | Bo Xien Tam for $21. The eggrolls were crispy and had the right amount of filling well seasoned, the Bite-size Banh Xeo shrimp crepes was light and the flash fried marinated beef skewers were seasoned to perfection with a family marinade. Lettuce, cilantro, mint along with the various nuoc cham (dipping sauces) were great! I didn't want to fill up as I wanted one of my favorite Lao dishes Nam Khao - Crispy red curry seasoned rice combined with small chunks of cured pork, and spices. It comes with lettuce, mint, cilantro where you can eat it like a lettuce wrap or eat it as is like fried rice for $18. This light entree for me hit the spot. The staff was exceptional, occasionally stopping g by to check if my water was ok or if I needed anything. I went to check out the bathroom to wash my hands and thought the wall murals were trendy and happy to see the restrooms were clean. I stopped at the open kitchen and complimented the chef and his staff on my delicious meal. They were very cheery and thankful for the compliment. Went back to my table and contemplated another cocktail or dessert but I was really beyond stuffed and figured I'll be back and to save options for my next visit. Chef Binh stopped by my table and we started talking about a little of everything. The restaurant concept, the seasonally inspired menu and to keep things fun for regular diners, shhhh....you didn't hear it from me...but there's even a secret menu that changes often! You'll have to ask or sign up to get the details! You don't get many seasonal menu options from Asian restaurants so I love that they have a seasonal menu and a secret one that only the special members know about! Come check out House 1830! This was the first time trying the Pineapple Fried Rice with seafood, and it was okay- the menu advertises that there is shrimp and squid in there, but our order came with oysters. The oysters were a bit off-putting, and the rice tasted a bit mealy. The Yum-Nuea was great, per usual, other than the beef being a bit overdone. The Mee-Keob-Lard-Nah was tasty, and the noodles took shape throughout the dish. Egg rolls were perfectly crispy and seasoned well. We'll continue to patronize Thep Thai even if a couple of dishes were off tonight- we decided to try menu items we're not used to, so we may just stick to our go-to menu items next time!
