I've been here twice and wasn't very impressed either time. I've had two appetizers, the "meat" rolls (which are actually shrimp rolls) and the tempura shrimp . The shrimp rolls with the peanut sauce was the best thing I've eaten at this place. The tempura shrimp was bland and not very good. It was more like just typical fried shrimp and didn't seem to be a tempura batter at all, it was a really heavy breading. I had the fish ball, imitation crab meat, squid, and shrimp pho bowl with noodles. It was alright. Next I had a beef pho bowl with meatballs, sirloin strips and tripe I think it was, I'm not sure because there was a typo on the menu that said "stripe". This dish was brought out to me 2 minutes after I ordered it, so obviously all the meat was precooked and it showed. Besides being cooked way before I ordered it, the meat in the soup was really bland. This place isn't bad food, it's just not good. I have no reason to go back. Every person within ear shot at this place was using a Groupon coupon and I think that says something about this place. I hate giving local eateries bad reviews but I gave them a chance. edit: I forgot to mention that the waiter never refilled my water on the second visit. This is the best Vietnamese on this Kansas side. We eat here at least once a week. The pho is quite good. My wife is Vietnamese and she loves it. It is more northern style as it is not too sweet like in the south. I have had the spring rolls with rice wraps and these are some of the best you can get in a restaurant. I order them with fish sauce as the dipping sauce instead of the peanut sauce. Try the grilled meat ones also! Their egg rolls are fantastic, very authentic Vietnamese egg rolls. We have ordered their banh mi, it is an off the menu special that is like a Vietnamese Hoggie. Tons of meat, great bread. A different style then most places but very good. My Vietnamese Mother-in-law was impressed. I see people eat these at lunch. The bun bo hue is pretty good also. A little spicy beef noodle broth with some pork too. We recently ordered their tameran soup off the Dinner for 2 menu. We just special requested it. Fresh shrimp with tomatoes and elephant ear. Very spicy, I think we would ask for it without the peppers next time, but very homey. Their dinners for groups seems like a steal, a lot off food for 20 bucks. It is very authentic though, like eating at someones house. A lot of the bad reviews seem to be written by non Vietnamese people. I think it is just knowing what to order off of their menu, it can be confusing and I don't think know what dishes non Vietnamese people will like. So a couple friends and I decided to try this place out after seeing a Groupon for it. It's a money scam. The groupon was $17 for $30 worth of food. But when we presented the groupon to the waitress, she said it's split into two so you have to use $15 this time, and the other $15 on a second visit. So we ended up paying extra since we ordered extra food to get to the $30. Then she brought the manager out, and he basically repeated the same thing. I wouldn't recommend coming here using the Groupon! As for the food, I've been to many Vietnamese restaurants in the Kansas City region, and this is definitely at the BOTTOM OF THE LIST. A couple friends and I all ordered the Pho Good Dac Biet. First, it didn't have the great aroma that you get from the pho at most other Vietnamese places. The soup and vegetables were in excess compared to all else like the meat. The meatballs in the pho also had an interesting taste, as if it's been sitting in the freezer for a while... We tried the boba tea as well. Hands down, the worst I've ever had in my life. The ice wasn't even crushed completely, so I had bits and pieces of ice while drinking it. Also, some of the tapioca balls were hard, I feel like they may have been sitting out for a while. I actually ordered strawberry, but it tasted more like bubblegum favor...very artificial even though the menu says "real fruit." Only thing real about it was the ice. I would not recommend this place and will not be returning. It'll be more worth your time to try out other Vietnamese places in Kansas City, MO side. read more

I've eaten here a couple times now. I haven't noticed any of the odor issues described by others, so it appears they have that taken care of. They were closed Wednesday and appeared to be doing some construction. My first visit, I had the beef pho and spring rolls. The spring rolls were properly wrapped and were delicious... everything tasted very fresh. The peanut sauce had a nice flavor and consistency... not too sweet. The Pho was delicious... the broth was just right. My only complaint (as noted by another reviewer) was that the amount of meat received in a large order seemed a bit lacking, especially compared to Vietnam Cafe. Would have liked a few more sprouts as well. They are very generous with the herbs, however, which I appreciate greatly. On my second visit, I was disappointed to see that Bahn Mi (sandwiches) were no longer on the menu. The owner assured me they had one as a special, so I just ordered that. My bahn mi standard is pretty high... I ate them nonstop on a trip to San Francisco once where I swear they were up there on the list of most perfect foods. While this sandwich fell a bit short of that standard, it wasn't by much. The bread was perfection, the variety of meats interesting and of top quality, and the veggies were those of a traditional bahn mi... cucumber, carrots, jalapenos, etc. There was a flavor element missing that I couldn't quite put my finger on, but it just didn't matter. This might just have been the best sandwich I've eaten in KC and was definitely on my top 5 list of favorite sandwiches ever. Is the decor the best? No. It's in a JoCo strip mall... I don't expect it to be. The service could definitely use some work... There was redheaded female server on my first visit who was a real gem and even though I was just getting carryout really went out of her way. The other younger servers, who I think may have been family members of the owners, were clearly bored and irritated about being there, and weren't afraid to make it known to the patrons. Hopefully, that will be remedied soon, as this place definitely deserves to make it, what with the quality of food they are putting out. I should probably preface this review by saying I've never had Pho before I came here. I've been wanting to try it for some time but haven't ever found a place or time to do it. I ordered 2 spring rolls, Pho with beef, and a diet coke. The spring rolls were heavenly, with fresh crunchy veggies and 3 decent size shrimp per roll. They were complimented beautifully with the peanut sauce. Up next was the Pho. Not knowing what the difference between good pho and bad pho was I just relied on my palate to guide me. I felt that it lacked seasoning because it wasn't full of flavor like the peanut sauce for the spring rolls was. Luckily, they had fish sauce, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, sriracha, salt, and pepper available. So I added a bit of hoisin, sriracha, and fish sauce to "beef up" the broth a bit. My bill was $13 for the meal, not too bad. Overall I enjoyed my new experience and will most likely be back here, but only after I try Pho somewhere else as well. read more

I love me some Vietnamese food and I am glad Pho Good is close by my home. The food is acceptable, not the best but not terrible in my opinion. I would have never found this place without the help of a special online deal service. Pho Good has a large dining room with an ample amount of tables. I have never seen this place more than half filled so if you're looking for a fast, sit down restaurant and craving some Vietnamese, this is the place to go. Service is okay as well, at times they are very attentive and other times, I have experienced that they are not so much. Now as far as the food goes, there are a few dishes that I absolutely love and there are some that are forgettable. The fried sweet potatoes and shrimp are quite good. I tend to order this dish at many Vietnamese places and Pho Good has to be my favorite. The sweet potatoes and shrimp aren't over battered and very tasty. The spring rolls are forgettable for me. The ratio of vermicelli, vegetables, and meat aren't just there for me. The pho, which is supposed to be the star of Vietnamese restaurants, is just OK for me. It doesn't have the flavor that keeps me eating more and more. The vermicelli with grilled shrimp and egg rolls is my favorite dish here. The shrimp is grilled and seasoned very well. It is topped with peanuts and dried garlic. It can easily be eaten the way it is given but pour the fish sauce in the bowl and you have a winner. The dish is also huge! The bubble tea is OK as it is a bit too sweet for me. I also found the tapioca pearls to be a little hard, which tells me that it's probably been sitting out for a while. Pho Good is indeed, good. We were pleasantly surprised by this little restaurant. I had the shrimp vermicelli, and the sauce they give you to pour over it was amazing. It was tangy, and spicy. My husband got a soup with beef in it. I wasn't a fan when I tried it because they use cardamom and it almost tasted like it had cinnamon too. He really enjoyed it though, and the beef was super tender. The meat spring rolls we got were delicious too. There are not many Vietnamese restaurants out south that serve pho and this beats driving all the way down town. I ate here twice, pho was good not the best. Staff was very not friendly and unable to answer any questions or communicate. I could deal with this but then as I am mid bite I see a huge roach on the wall and a baby roach nearby I didn't want to startle the person sitting across from me and I did not want to make a scene. I discretely tried to get the waiters attention and it didn't work so we got up and left they came running and I pointed out the roaches and said we will not be paying. They practically escorted us to the door so the other customers were not aware of the roaches. The fact that this was at lunchtime and the roaches were in plain sight leads me to believe that there is a more serious infestation. read more

My spouse wanted some Pho so this was the nearest place which had decent reviews and it was a big dissapointment as PHO Good was PHO bad. I would consider myself a PHO connoisseur. Thanks to a Groupon, this was my first time not only eating here, but eating Vietnamese food in general. A friend and I braved the cold and headed out. While it's pretty nondescript on the outside, it was comfortable inside. The food was quite good, I got the lemongrass beef bun, and my friend got some sort of lemongrass chicken with rice (I don't recall the name). Both were quite tasty, though the beef was a bit chewy. We also split an order of egg rolls and an order of spring rolls. All in the food would probably be getting a solid 4 stars for taste, quality, and they certainly don't skimp on the quantities. I'll be having my meal again for lunch today too! However, for a "newbie" like myself, I probably won't be back until I've visited some other Vietnamese restaurants, in order to get an idea of what I like. I'm sorry to say that the waitress was completely unable to communicate in English. For instance, when we tried to tell her what we wanted, we actually had to point to it on the menu. We also had trouble asking for water, and I guess they must not have lemons in that restaurant, because when we asked for "lemon" with our water and later on, the hot tea, we got lime. When the food arrived she just dropped it off at the table and walked away, so we got to figure out what dipping sauce went with which appetizer... Never mind the fact that I wasn't expecting cold spring rolls! It was worse with the main course: She brought out the entrees, and put a bowl of what appeared to be soup in the middle of the table. Neither one of us thought we had ordered soup, so we had to call her back to ask what this was, and she didn't seem to understand where our confusion was coming from. Still the food was quite good and up until now, we still would have given it 4 stars, but the service had one last "issue." The waitress picked up the check and my debit card, but it was returned to the table by a guy: I have a debit card with my photo on it, and I'm a big, burly guy with a beard. My friend is a petite blonde young lady. The guy delivered the card for signature to HER! She was a bit insulted. I've been eating at Pho Good since it opened at its original location. I was thrilled to have pho in Shawnee! I wrote a review over 6 years ago. The spring rolls are still really good, and I still love their dipping sauce; it's a bit different. I've been a bit disappointed lately in the pho; there seem to be fewer ingredients in the broth, and they no longer provide basil on the garnish plate. Still very happy to have a Viet restaurant in Shawnee, but the quality here has slipped a bit in the last year. read more

I love love love Vietnamese food. Seriously. And this place is definitely not bad. I've been here several times and the people have always been pretty okay towards me. I LOVE their lemongrass beef (it's not on the menu but you can request it) and their pho is pretty good too. I once met the owner who is a very juice and pleasant man. Sure the servers are awkward as heck, but hopefully they will learn. Give people a chance guys. When we walked in the door, we were greeted happily by an employee who was leaving but it took no time at all for another to seat us by a waterfall display. The restaurant atmosphere over all was very bland. Our server was a bit disconnected but that could have been because of the language barrier. The food was truly fresh and very satisfying! The worst part of this whole experience was that both my friend and I got food poisoning from this place. I won't be back to say the least. I will stick with Cafe Vie. They've recently moved to a new location next to the Walmart fresh market on 75th and Quivera, but it's the same great quality. A friend had tofu rice dish and it was great too. We had tofu spring rolls for appetizer and the peanut sauce was so good. It had a sweet taste to it which I found different but so tasty. I was on my way to Pine and Bamboo Garden but was excited to discover Pho Good nearby. However my excitement quickly faded after the first visit. The decor reminds me of interior from a suburb home. Homey feeling? Not really, it actually feels weird for a restaurant. The owner came to our table and asked if we'd like to have the candle lit. Hmm OK, but no thanks.. you've got your blinds wide open at lunch and it's plenty bright inside as well. We've had Vietnamese sandwishes from a couple Vietnamese restaurants in Chicago so the bar was set high, but I didn't expect sandwich to be made in such poor quality and lack of authenticity: picture a Subway sandwich, 3 inches long (not even 6), filled with American ingredient and charges you 4 bucks. On to the pho. The serving was relatively small, at least compared to the Vietnam Cafe at City market, and the soup tasted a bit bland except for saltiness. The beef pho also lacks protein. In service department: there're only 4 tables (mine included) with customers, so it was pretty quiet, but somehow it took quite a while for us to get the food. Unless the owner makes some changes to address the quality issue especially the sandwiches, I don't see any reason why I should come back for a second visit, when its pho is far from good. read more

Been riding past this place for a few years and decided to stop by after work one day. Much bigger on the inside then I thought. Appetizers: I order the spring rolls(Goi Cuon) : decent but I'm used to eating them with pork along with the shrimp. I also order the egg rolls(Cha Gio) : disappointed! Very little filling inside. It tasted like I was just eating deep fried egg roll skins. The nuoc mam(fish based dipping sauce) was a little too sweet for my liking. I prefer to taste the spice also when eating this. The main dish: Being the Pho connoisseur that I am I had to go with that. Beef Pho: I order the sliced beef on the side this time. The veggie plate the accompanied the dish was very fresh and they provided plenty of fresh herbs, limes and bean sprouts. The beef was fresh and sliced just right but the main thing that make a Pho great is the broth. This broth was very clear and didn't pack much flavor at all. The bowl could have used more noodles also. I won't be returning back to this place and will opt for one of the other vietnamese spots in the city next time to satisfy my Pho craving. read more

Pho Good just keeps getting better and better, and I had the best experience yet today! We went at about 3pm on Sunday, and most of the booths were full. Extremely prompt, attentive service and we were even in and out in 30 minutes. I always order the Bun Chay(#207) w/o fish sauce, and if you ask they will make you a vegetarian alternative that is delicious! This was my first time here after hearing good things for a long time. I really enjoy Bun and theirs was some of the best I've had in town. Food, service, atmosphere, price, no complaints. That said, what I could not get past, however, (and this could have just been the day, and it's not really their fault), was the sheer volume of trash strewn about, no, piled really, in the landscaping in front of the place. It literally looked like a fraternity the day after a party, and this was in the middle of the week. Clean up the front and I will be happy to come back any time. read more

When I first heard about this place, I was thrilled to see that a Vietnamese restaurant had finally moved in to the Lenexa/OP/Shawnee area. I've had several of their noodle, rice and pho dinners at this point. All are terrific with plenty of flavor. I've enjoyed my stay each time I've been here. They also carry the iced drip coffee over condensed milk that I love AND they have bubble tea! Neither of those drinks are very accessible in this city without making a trip up to the Westport/Midtown area. The wait staff is friendly and I've always received good service there as well. In reading some of the other reviews, it appears that a few people had unpleasent experiences there. However, I think most of these may have been because Pho Good was simply a brand new restaurant that needed a few months to get settled in and work out some of their troublesome areas. I think many of those initial problems have been resolved at this point so hopefully those that weren't pleased the first time around will give them another chance. read more

Look no further for a great Vietnamese meal at a very reasonable price. Started out with a pair of spring rolls. Great texture and filling. (not too much cilantro) We both have vermicelli bowls. One shrimp the other pork. Shrimp were nicely grilled and the pork was fried slightly crispy. Came with a just right egg roll and a side of peanut sauce. (not greasy) The seasoned fish sauce served on the side was both sweet and salty but not too much on the fish side. Also had a refreshing bubble mango smoothie. Service was good not fussy. Good pho, closest to my area. I come rather often. I love Vietnamese eggrolls and I'm used to a platter of 4 served with leaf lettuce and cucumbers. They just give u two pieces and sauce. I usually just ask for the lettuce and cucumbers. :) I haven't tried the other places, they are a bit distant for me to try. But this place is great! read more
