I wish I could like it. We've been here twice since I was so excited to finally have a pho place in Cville. Maybe I'm spoiled to Pho 75 in Arlington, VA (go, get the #12), but this place just isn't good. The brisket in the pho has zero flavor and the broth is not as flavorful as it once was. The pork in the vermicelli dish tasted spoiled, as did the pork in the egg rolls. Maybe it was just some seasoning they used, but it didn't work. We've left disappointed both times and just can't keep going back if this is the best it is. I'd rather drive to Arlington. read more

Broth very flavorful. All the proteins in the combo bowl were tender and lean. Chicken was also very good. Enjoyed the spring roll. The small bowl was plentiful for dinner. Couldn't imagine how I could ever eat a large bowl especially if I get an appetizer. Access is not directly on Emmett St. Turn as though you were going to the bowling alley or Dunkin Donuts. I'm a big fan of this place. Charlottesville is severely lacking in good pho soup, and Pho 3 Pho satisfies that craving that the other locations in Charlottesville just can't fill. Their broth is more herbal and a little sweeter than I'm used to but I still enjoyed it. They have a spicy soup that's great too and you should try their coffee! I only knocked off one star because I still prefer pho where the meat finishes cooking when it's added to the broth which adds to the flavor profile, but here it seems they cook the meat separately. Still delicious, but I like the flavor of the meat to mix more with the broth. It's a great alternative to when I don't have time to make my own slow cooked pho at home. read more

I've been here a couple times, and I have to say that I'm happy to finally see a pho place open in town. This isn't particularly good, but it's solid and satisfying when you're really just craving a healthy-ish bowl of noodles. The first time I ordered the beef brisket pho - small is definitely adequate. It's pretty straightforward - meat, noodles, basil and bean sprouts on the side. The broth is decently clear; it could use some more flavor. The second time I ordered the dry pork chop noodle, which I really enjoyed. Again, it's light and pretty healthy - it could also use more flavor but I prefer that to overly greasy or heavy. read more

After the initial chuckle at the punny name, Pho 3 Pho definitely holds up. I've been twice now, which means that it was good enough for me to go back, and I'll probably keep going back until I'm given a hard reason not to! I've had better pho in Richmond and bigger cities, but for a city that is sorely lacking a pho restaurant, let alone a place that even features palatable pho on the menu, this place definitely works. The menu is simple - just a few things, which is a good sign to me that they are focusing on doing things well and not trying to over-do it. The space is clean and a little weird, which also fits the bill for me. I appreciate that it's not hip-ified like the ghosts of C'ville pho restaurants past (if you know what I mean...). There's a strangely full bar and excellent draft selection in case you need a tipple with your giant bowl of soup. There is a private TV in every booth (they aren't normally turned on), a huge amount of huge TV's over the bar, and the music is eclectic, to say the least. Was this place formerly a sports bar? The service was friendly. The pho comes out relatively quickly. I have had the brisket pho each time. The broth was a little more rich and flavorful the first time I had it, and needed a little more bolstering the second time. Everything else is really quite good. The garnish plate is fresh and has a good amount of sprouts and thai basil. The rice noodles and beef were both great and perfect in quantity for the size of the bowl/broth. Excellent assortment of various chili pastes/oils/sauces at each table. Most importantly, the regular size is PLENTY big enough, and the large is mammoth. That's exactly how it should be at a classic pho only establishment, and I salute their commitment to the proper ways. My dining partner had the spicy beef noodle soup and that was tasty too! It came with crunchy red cabbage as a garnish, the broth was rich and spicy, and the noodles were still rice noodles but more like udon in shape and texture. Her dish would be a good spicy bowl to cure hangovers and chest colds alike. I wish I could give it a solid 3.5 stars, but the variance in consistency leaves room for growth. My wife and I have been coming here for months because we love Pho. We go once a week as a little treat. The first couple of times were really good and tasty and the food came out within a few minutes, but these past 2 months have been so poor that we aren't coming back. Our order would consistently be wrong in either the size we order and or just something we did not order. The service slowly got worse and worse to the point to where we would feel forgotten about. This may seem typical in busy restaurants but the place is usually pretty empty. The worst part of it is that the broth has had zero flavor. We don't like to cause servers trouble but when we asked for it to be taken off it the waitress was unapologetic and rude about it. Simply upsetting. read more

Great prices, good food. The bun could be better by making a better nuoc mam, but the pork they serve with the bun is pretty good. The pho is very good, I really love how fresh the vegetables are that are served with it. It's generally always somewhat busy but not slammed. Takeout is quick and easy and they're at a good location to pick up food or stop by for a quick bite while out and about. Got some quick take out from here. Called in and the order was ready in 10 minutes, super fast! The Pho Nam was flavorful and filling even in the regular size. As a Vietnamese, I can say that their Pho is one of the BEST that I have tried. The broth is clear with authentic flavors (not heavily relying on stock broth or MSG), and the beef is so good!! I like that their menu is simple, which means these dishes receive well attention during development and preparation (unlike many other Vietnamese restaurants that come with an array of dishes, but all of which turn out to be taste average). This restaurant has both booth seating area and bar for a larger company. I will definitely come back for the Pho! Side note: I also like their avocado smoothie, which was not too sweet (albeit a bit too heavy in milk/cream content). There are some rooms for improvement with their Spicy Beef noodle, which is understandably a harder dish to deliver for most Vietnamese restaurants. read more

The pho here is mediocre at best. I ordered the pho tai here twice, the first time the broth had way too much fish sauce, so much that I could smell it as soon as they put it down. The second time was better, however the broth was on the blander side. I've also ordered the Vietnamese coffee here which was good but small. read more

Let me preface by saying I'm not a Pho connoisseur or local so I can't speak to authenticity but for a foodie who loves trying new food, this place was excellent! The regular pho bowl was massive and well priced - my husband and I were both stuffed. The shrimp spring roll was good sized and delicious. The Thai tea was delicious as well. Short but sweet menu. The grilled delicious looked delicious as well and we will try them next time. My husband had the pho with brisket, which was delicious - the meat had a nice flavor. I had the Pho Tai which had thinly sliced beef. The meat wasn't super flavorful but the broth was good and the cilantro gave it a great extra kick - the noodle and sprouts elements in the soup were very generous and filling. The place is hidden in Rivanna Plaza. It also has a variety of tv screens for sports viewing - great place to watch a game. They have nice booths if you want a little more private dinner and then there's open tables and bar seating for watching a variety of games on the screens above the bar. The best thing about the place though was our waitress, Claudia I believe, who was wonderfully sweet, kind, and joyful. She really brightened my night after a tough week at work with her positive attitude and genuineness. Good food, good prices, kind staff. Thank you for a wonderful dinner. While visiting from Washington DC I found this quiet but surprisingly hip Pho restaurant not far from my hotel. They had a great happy hour special and the great thing about a small menu is that they really focus on perfecting the dishes. The first night (yes, I went two nights in a row) I had the brisket pho and it was amazingly delicious. The second night I had the lemongrass chicken and it was probably the best lemongrass chicken I've ever had. I had spring rolls as an appetizer both nights and they were fresh and flavorful. This place was great. The noodles were fresh and delicious. I had a special order which they fulfilled (not all pho places are willing to take special orders). Staff was attentive and accommodating. International food in Charlottesville will, 90% of the time, be a miss. Pho 3 Pho is part of that 90%. The staff is obviously a bit on the less experienced side, but they try to give the best attention they can so I can't be upset about that. However, the meat quality and flavor of the broth is not worth the price you're paying - Most pho restaurants will serve better quality food for 2/3 the price. This is the only dedicated pho restaurant in cville (Thai Cuisine has pho which is pretty good), so I was expecting a lot more from them. They've come a long way from their opening from what I've heard, but from my experiences they still have a long way to go. read more

I stopped when I was getting over a bad cold and it was just what I needed: good enough not too salty broth, fresh sprouts, the chicken was not fantastic (tasteless kind of tough slices) and the noodles were momentarily stuck together. It is located WAY out of my way but I would be there every week if it was better. I can't complain. If you're sick, this big bowl of spicy broth is a godsend. I'll start of with the positive. Menu is so small, literally 3 appetizers, and like 5 phos. I'm okay with that. Loved the egg rolls, amazing!!! I will be back for those! The pho was okay... My friend and I came here on a whim, not expecting too much. Ordered Vietnamese iced coffee -- good, very sweet. Next came the pork egg rolls and the garlicy citrus sauce... YUM! After a short wait, our pho came out. The pho nam was delicious, especially with the addition of one of the many sauces on the table, Hoisin sauce. Pho tai was also great. Both had plentiful amounts of meat, which we were very happy about. The large pho is BIG! We both agreed that the prices were very reasonable for the amount of food we got. Pros: energetic, friendly service. Cons: Pho has a watered-down broth, no traditional #1 Pho Bo with tripe, meatballs, flank etc, when we were there they were out of bean sprouts! What? Cons: Vietnamese ice coffee comes pre-mixed - no 1 cup french drip, also tasted watered down Cons: peanut sauce for goi con is good but also weak in flavor This is one in a string of Pho restaurants that have started up in Charlottesville that have this watered-down flavor to the Pho broth. The whole point of Pho is the intensity of the broth! All the rest that took this approach, with a light flavor broth, went out of business :(, i hope Pho 3 Pho learns and evolves so they do not follow that path. There is a sleeper restaurant in Charlottesville that has very good Pho - "Thai Cusine" - it is almost as good as the Pho places in NoVA. I would love to see restaurants like Pho 3 Pho compete and improve their Pho to the quality standard Thai Cusine sets. read more

Pho 3 Pho is hands down one of my favorite new restaurants in Charlottesville. I'm a pho FANATIC, and I've never been able to find good pho in Cville. Then this place came along and it most definitely passes the test! The chicken pho is delicious. The broth is so yummy and the ingredients are fresh af. The chicken is cooked perfectly. The shrimp spring rolls are also a must-order. I could eat this every day! Can't wait to give the rest of the menu a try. My brother got the wings (kind of a savage move if you ask me!) but he said they were pretty decent! Couldn't recommend this place more! read more
