We had such an exquisite experience at Philo Ridge Farm. This place is absolutely amazing!! Not only do they have breathtaking views while you dine outside, but the service was outstanding and the food was fantastic. We started with the dinner rolls, and these are a MUST! The bread was so warm, buttery, and flaky with just the right amount of sea salt sprinkled on top. For mains, I ordered the sausage and my partner had the roasted chicken breast. My dish was super tasty, and his chicken was SO juicy and bursting with flavour! You can really taste the freshness and high quality of every ingredient. For drinks my partner got a cider, which he really enjoyed, and my cocktail was bubbly, fruity, and beautiful! (I cannot remember the name atm, apologies.) All of the waitstaff was absolutely wonderful and super friendly and helpful. They made us feel warm and welcomed. As an added bonus, we got to the farm a bit early and were able to walk around freely. We got to see the beautiful rolling hills, gardens, and adorable animals. They also have great items and merchandise in their market by the entrance. I'm so glad we got to eat here during our July visit to VT from NYC. I know their restaurant is currently on pause, but I really hope they open again come spring/summer- we will definitely be coming back!!

I had the most amazing dinner!! From the food to the service everything was perfection. I started with the cucumber ricotta, then head the chicken and the ice cream. We also ordered the bread rolls which were spectacular. The radishes were ok. The best part of the meal was the charcoal ice cream with frozen chocolate and marshmallow!!

Beautiful & delicious carrot cake from the market!

I could literally come to the market here every day. The pastries (handpies!, carrot cake!, molasses cake!), the to go chicken salad, omg the ham hock SOUP. The granola!! The eggs. The meat. I've had dinner at the restaurant & the food was very good. But honestly I like the market goods better! They have a whole frozen take & bake chicken pot pie that IS the holy grail of all pot pies. I've had many a pot pie, but this one taught me what a pot pie really should be. The double crust is PUFF PASTRY - which WILL ruin you for any other pot pie crust. The filling is so packed with chicken pieces (and not in cafeteria-style uniform cubes) that the delicious gravy doesn't rush out when you remove the first slice. There are some veg pieces, but the filling is mostly gravy & chicken. This is a full sized, $30 pot pie that you will never complain about paying for once you taste it. If you get here at the right time in the morning, the pastry case will have fresh handpies. Whatever the flavor - get one! They are all fantastic. The carrot cake slices are beauties, & they are delicious - the cream cheese frosting is lightly sweet. The granola! You'll wonder if it's cereal or a healthy dessert. It's full of dried blueberries! I love it with the Maple yogurt they sell. Together, it's an amazing breakfast OR dessert. They have high quality raw chicken, bacon, chicken livers or hearts, beef heart, sausages, bone broth, and eggs, as well as an assortment of nice produce and condiments, plus some beautiful gift items. If you're in the area, stop in, & say hi to the sheep across the street!

This farm to table restaurant is absolutely phenomenal! We had the tasting menu which included salad, soup, roasted chicken entree and dessert. We also had the beef carpaccio which was out of this world and rolls which were like eating delicious clouds, so light. The service was excellent, our waitress, Winnie, was very attentive and friendly. And then there was the view! We had an outside table but under a roof. It was a perfect night so we watched the sun set over the farm. We can't wait to go back!

Wow! Food is fantastic and setting is exquisite. The menu changes based on what food is available and chefs desires. But here's a "taste" of what you get...

Took a tour of the farm as part of farm week. It was excellent. Tad was very knowledgeable about the farm, vegetables, and animals. It was pretty short, but very informative. They seem to be an environmentally friendly farm, and pretty much passed my wife's "vegan" test. We didn't see any of the cows, but we saw pigs and chickens. They have a market where they sell all their own products. Great food choices, and some "general store" products (dry goods). Big room for eating and of course outside tables overlooking the farm.

Exceptional service at the window. We ordered the biscuit with egg and sausage, and a slice of the ham quiche, plus lemon ricotta cake. Phenomenal. The best food we've had in VT so far. We even went back today for the exact same thing (and also tried the zucchini bread) - and we normally prefer to explore and try different places when vacationing. Overall, a beautiful and peaceful environment, dog friendly, tables and chairs are spaced out appropriately, and the food is delicious. GO if you are on the fence.

Came here with a cousin and my wife for dinner. Loved the food and the hospitality amazing Gerish meats and veggies.

Does this thing have a 6 star button? A+ service and food! One of the areas must go. We are so happy that we found this place. The food is preselected & you have 3 options for 1 app 1 entree 1 dessert. You can also pick some bonuses if you like (carpaccio is sublime to say the least). Plenty of wine selections. They grow their protein on property. Pretty special place!

The chicken salad "sandwich" and roasted chicken "salad" (slightly different variations!) were scrumptious and we topped it off with some local beers.

Highly recommend the 1.5 hour around the Fields - very informative history about the area and property, gorgeous fields to traverse, a nice barn with animals at the end, and some delightful cheddar cheese made at the Farms. They also have a nice bakery (got fresh bread there for lunch to go with the cheddar) and syrups/jams/goods from local farms.

This marked our fifth year visiting the fabulous Vermont Cheese Festival. This year it returned to…read moreShelburne Farms south of Burlington for the first time since 2019; the most recent festival was held in Greensboro in 2023, and there was no festival in 2024. So it was a big welcome back in 2025, and the event -- held inside the newly reconstructed, enormous breeding barn at Shelburne (please see the photos) -- was quite a big deal. There were perhaps 50 or so vendors, and the general public was limited to just 1,000 tickets, which made it, unexpectedly, something of an elite event. (Tickets were sold out months in advance.) The festival offers a wonderful opportunity to meet the these dedicated craft cheesemakers and, best of all, sample their work. And wow, did we ever sample their work!!! We won't go detailing each of those cheeses, but please know there were many and not a one disappointed us. Other vendors offered everything from ciders to jams, sauces, charcuterie and -- believe it or not -- peanut butter. At a cheese festival? The atmosphere is inviting and rewarding for the makers and the public, and assembling such a large and skilled group of crafters in one place makes for an extraordinary moment. We congratulate the executive director of the cheese council, Hale, who did a splendid job. A couple of small issues for us: while there were a few chairs outside the barn there was almost no seating at all inside, and there was space which could have been worked fine, we think. And after a hour of walking around, a sitting break could have felt good. Also, there were food trucks selling ice cream, Indian food, cookies from King Arthurs, but they were placed placed pretty far from the barn, requiring a bit of walking. We also enjoyed the band playing outside, but they too were a bit moved from everything else. And then, it was hot -- near 90, but that's just the way it was. And for attendees, it was clearly not the temps defined this dazzling event. We're ready for 2026!

We had signed up to help and it turned out to be so much more than just service. Right off the bat, the food was extraordinary, what a spectacular showcase of Vermont's artisanal cheese scene! Samples ranged from classic cheddars to Gouda to pepper jack, all crafted by passionate local cheesemakers. We also discovered delightful pairings, cheese and jam was a Hit; I wasn't expecting it, but "jam is my jam," as one participant aptly put it. lol As for service, the volunteer coordination was seamless. Helping vendors set up before the crowds arrived gave us a chance to chat with cheesemakers, learn about each cheese's story, and feel truly connected to their craft. The staff were friendly, organized, and the energy was warm and welcoming. The ambiance was downright charming. Set at historic Shelburne Farms' Breeding Barn, the festival unfolded on a perfect summer day - sunny, scenic, and relaxed. It felt like celebrating cheese right in the heart of verdant Vermont, complete with the buzz of fellow cheese lovers, artisan vendors, and farm surroundings. A bit of history: This year marked the 13th Annual Vermont Cheesemakers Festival, hosted by the Vermont Cheese Council at Shelburne Farms. The festival is rooted in Vermont's rich artisanal cheese tradition, highlighting how the state leads the nation in cheesemakers per capita. It originally began as a celebration of the state's cheesemaking success a sort of "cheese carnival" introducing the public to local producers and their craft. Notably, this year's event was completely sold out tickets were snapped up well in advance, and none were available at the door. Even the general admission waitlist was full, and volunteer slots had closed early too. This level of demand speaks volumes about how beloved and highly anticipated, the festival has become. Volunteering at the Vermont Cheesemakers Festival was a fantastic decision. The combination of exceptional cheese, purposeful and friendly service, and a picturesque setting made for a memorable afternoon. It's clear why this sold-out event has become a beloved summer tradition. We'll definitely be back, with or without volunteer duties to savor more of what Vermont's incredible cheesemakers have to offer!
