Why was the pickup so terrible? Well, firstly, the kiosk at 231-235 North Second Street Philadelphia, PA 1910, is broken and cannot read credit cards. This meant that I had to hold up my credit card close to the camera for the Hertz representative as she slowly and laboriously tried to read my name and my details. This wasn't a lot of fun for either of us as you can imagine, especially given that my full name is Ramakrishna Padmanabhan (I'm getting it changed as soon as I can! :P). Second, I was billed at a different rate than I was promised. What made it worse though was that I noticed my bill was different and I told the representative (and I hadn't clicked on 'Agree'), but she had already made the transaction. So when we repeated the painful process of holding up my credit card all over again for her to get the details, the second payment did not go through. My credit card still hasn't made the funds from the incorrect payment available to me: it's still on hold 5 days after I rented the car. So I then had to use a different card, and I had fun holding up my credit card for a third time and waiting an eternity. In the meantime, another Hertz customer who was waiting in the queue began to get extremely impatient and started yelling at me. The kiosk can hold only one person at a time and it's broken, so I don't entirely blame her for getting impatient, and I guess I was partially the reason for her delay (although I noticed that she was having just as bad a time later). I ended up waiting more than an hour in the kiosk for the simple process of confirming my reservation and making my payment. On the plus side, the Hertz representative was courteous and she suggested that I may receive compensation (which I didn't), but it wasn't her fault that the kiosk was so broken. Also, the car itself ran very smoothly and I had no trouble with it. Returning the car, thankfully, was easy too (took me only 10 minutes). However, my experience with picking the car up was terrible enough that I'm seriously reconsidering using Hertz, in spite of being a gold member. At the very least, I'll never use this pick-up location again.

This place gives me a god damn jet ski! I'm not riding against the current of the mighty Delaware river hundreds of miles and especially not in this weather. WHERES THE ACCOUNTABILITY PEOPLE? That seemed like an unnecessary use of city resources and emailed the company's help desk, because they don't have any way to talk to a human being on the phone. I got an email 12 hours later from get around. They told me it would be handled "as soon as possible." An additional 16 hours later the car is still there. I'm hoping a yelp review will get their attention. Company asked for a dm with plate info but their messaging is turned off. Car has California plates and is 7NWS685

This is still in the parking garage without having moved the vehicle. In this particular location the office is located on the first floor of a building, and you sign the rental agreement and get keys before you're given directions to go up an elevator a few floors up to find your car. There are no employees in the garage. When we first arrived at the office on the first floor, the two employees were talking to each other, using some acronym, about how that didn't have the category of vehicle available for me. My reservation was for a Toyota Rav4 or similar, which is what I received, so this is not about the vehicle type. I don't recall the exact acronym, but let's say it was G & D. The conversation went something like this: Employee 1: We don't have any G vehicles left. Employee 2: I know, I looked earlier. Just give her a D vehicle. I sign, get the keys, head up to the garage. Immediately we noticed the damaged car, I felt like this was unusual since I've rented from Avis multiple times and had never received a damaged vehicle. Between the damaged (and clearly not cleaned) vehicle and their conversation I felt uneasy. I snapped a video walking around the car and a quick photo. Since I had never had any issues previously with Avis, I assumed this was noted in their system and they had no other vehicles to give me. We were in a rush, and there were no employees up in the garage to chat with. We left assuming it wasn't a big deal. WRONG. I am now being harassed to pay for over $2k in damages to a car that I DID NOT DAMAGE. It's horrible customer service. The staff on site clearly don't check the returned vehicles and note any damage, absolute incompetence, so RENTER BEWARE. DO NOT RENT FROM THEM.

For several years, I owned a car in the city, but living in the city the cost is not worth it. However, it's important to have access to a car at times, for road trips out of the city, trips to King of Prussia, or grocery shopping. The ease of reserving a car by the hour or day in the Zipcar app on my iPhone or on the website is unbeatable. Reserve a car for around $10 per hour or $90 per 24-hour period and that includes gas (180 miles per 24 hrs) and insurance. The process of picking up and dropping off the car is simple - just tap your zipcard on the card reader and you're in. In summary, would highly recommend Zipcar for anyone without a car or with occasional need for an extra vehicle.

Photos of location showed "Pedestrian Walkway" of which there are several. Then needed instructions on opening car door, starting and shutting off car, a half an hour. Upon return, received pop-up asking if I would be late. Answered, yes "under 10 minutes". I returned car late 8 minutes. Zipcar charged me a $73.31 late charge on a $70.50/rental, totaling $143.81 for three hours. Zipcar's foreign cx service agents won't remove the late charge and won't allow emailed photos of the physical parking lot showing the several signs indicating the same entrance. I'm also physically handicapped, the app should have said "Pedestrian walkway" closest to Market Street (or closest to Chestnut Street, on Chestnut Street). I also was on the phone a half an hour at the start of the rental needing instructions on using the app because the start, stop, open door didn't appear immediately. $143.81 for three hours, ripoff!
