I booked a rental 1 hour before my start time and for some reason I was not able to get my profile verified in time. 7min after the start time I had to cancel after having paid $186.77 for a 24hr rental that never happened and now am unable to contact anyone for a refund. Since the rental was canceled there is no information for help, no way to contact the owner, or getaround!!!!!! So what happens now? They just keep my money! read more

One of their drivers parked illegally on my sidewalk. The car is blocking our ability to drive through our small philly street. Garbage, delivery and other service trucks can't get through. After a day of it being there, I called 311 and they said to call 911 to get car towed. That seemed like an unnecessary use of city resources and emailed the company's help desk, because they don't have any way to talk to a human being on the phone. I got an email 12 hours later from get around. They told me it would be handled "as soon as possible." An additional 16 hours later the car is still there. Absolute worst experience with a car-sharing company. I used GetAround a couple of times before with no issues. On May 2, I rented a heavily damaged Toyota Corolla. The front and back bumpers were damaged, the interior was full of dirt and trash from the previous renter, the check engine light was on, the radio did not work (software issue error), the car was also not maintained and was misaligned, which is a safety hazard. I submitted photos pre and post-trip in the app per the company policy with documented pictures of the damages. I called GetAround before the trip to ask for another car since my reserved car was heavily damaged. They said they took note of my call and complaint and that the submitted pictures would serve as proof of the current damages. On May 5, I was charged an $1100 damage fee for the bumpers and other damages I wasn't liable for. They used the pictures I submitted pre and post-trip to claim damages to the car!! Also, there is no way to speak to a representative unless there is an active reservation. I had to reserve a car to be able to get someone on the phone to request the pictures I submitted showing the damages to resubmit to dispute the claim. Beware at all costs! DO NOT USE THIS SCAM COMPANY. If this does not get resolved, I will be filing a complaint with the BBB, will share my story with pictures of the car pre and post trip with the GetAround damage claim email response on every social media platform, and alert my friend who is an investigative reporter with the Fox News network of this fraudulent practice. read more

The car had an expired inspection sticker which got me towed. I contacted Getaround who assured me I will not be charged. Until I did, for the tow fee and a retrieval charge. 679 in total. I could've gotten the car myself if I knew Getaround is going to charge me for getting it-- I was assured I won't. My trip had to end early and I had to Uber my way for the rest of the trip. Rented a car on getaround after getting a $30 off promotion at the Old City Festival. After booking, found out the car had a 20 mi/hour limit (what the heck) so for my 6 hour rental, it would only be 120 mi I could drive. Additional miles were $0.50 per mile! This was not stated anywhere prior to booking otherwise I wouldn't have booked! Cancelled for half credit and emailed customer service asking for a full refund. I have not heard back. read more

I join many of my fellow reviewers in saying, DO NOT USE GETAROUND for your transportation needs. You would be better served going to a rental car company or using Zipcar. I have reported Getaround's business practices to the Pennsylvania Attorney General. One practice I find troubling is they require you to use the electronic tag on a vehicle, which is a convenience that comes with a $2.50 per transaction charge. There is no alternative such as using your own ezpass nor do they tell you not to but if you do, you will be charged twice. So if you want to go to cherry hill NJ, be prepared to pay $7.50 to do so if you use your own ezpass you'll be paying $12.50 until ezpass refunds you for the amount charged to you ($5.00) which takes 25 days from what I'm told. I'm only on day 8. DO NOT USE GETAROUND for your transportation needs. I have rented from Getaround twice and each time the car was dirty on the interior and exterior which is especially concerning during a pandemic. Both vehicles had stains on the seats and the floors unvacuumed. Be careful to read the fine print around extending a vehicle and document, document, document and record before you get in a car and when you drop it off. Leave yourself plenty of time to scout for your vehicle because your car may not be where they say it is and you don't get access until you start the trip which you can't do until the exact time you requested. DO NOT USE GETAROUND for your transportation needs. Getaround's customer service leaves a lot to be desired because you can't get in touch with a live person unless you're on a trip and even then the phone can ring and ring which is what happened to me when I couldn't locate my 1st vehicle the 2nd time I rented. Also, be prepared to not have a full tank of gas neither car i rented had a full tank but i was required to fill up. Was even mistakenly charged for the 2nd rental. Neither the cars nor the service is worth the headache that you will have to endure dealing with the slow to respond reps and all the work you have to do to cover your a@# with a company trying to grab a bick anywhere they can no matter how illegal. I have used Getaround frequently starting in 2017 but over the past year the experience has gone so substantially downhill that I've decided to be done using the service. 1) The vehicles - the required quality of the cars is noticeably lower. It used to be that you'd be hard pressed to find a car more than 5 years old. Now there are many vehicles 10 years or older and the wear shows. They are often dirty and have mechanical issues. I sometimes don't feel safe to drive them, but moreover I almost never would want to drive anyone else around IN them because they are not well maintained. 2) The product/software - honestly the app experience hasn't gotten _worse_...it just hasn't gotten better and that feels like a failure. There are things- like showing up to a vehicle with a dead battery, calling, and they can tell the battery is dead because their tech shows it- why isn't that solved? Have a process where 30 min before a ride starts, ping the vehicle diagnostics, and if there is an issue, notify the renter and match them with another vehicle. It just feels like the lack of advancement equals a lack of engagement in what their customers want. 3) Terrible customer service- It's just not good. They don't give their agents any power so they just stonewall you. And then when you ask for a manager who they say COULD help you, there's never one available. We all know managers are available...but it's a very flawed mentality. Certainly not customer first. Turo will generally cost me $50 more for the days that I need a vehicle for less than 24 hours...and I'm still going to pay that rather than using Getaround in the future. Or look into Zipcar...which is also more expensive. That's how consistently poor the experience has gotten. Literally not worth the bargain you get- I equate it with flying Spirit or Frontier. At some point, you spent the extra month to NOT have to deal with that product and company. read more

I tried them out for he first time and perhaps I had been spoiled by previous car share companies, so this may not be the best review. I had reserved a vehicle and literally 15 minutes before the reservation it was moved to another location. I had already made plans for my daughter to meet me at that location, luckily i caught her in time to let he know about the change of plans. Then when I got to the address where the new vehicle was supposed to be located, it was not there. I looked on the app and the "car" symbol was blocks away. Now, we are into my reservation time and I had someplace to be and not to mention I did not have on walking shoes because i did not plan to walk. But i walked the few blocks to the car and the reservation was fine until I was leaving my destination in NJ and the car would not start. I had to try it about 6 times before it would turn over. Now this was cutting into my return time. I called customer service and they were very helpful. Another issue that I have is having to find a parking spot for the vehicle. Living in the city, parking is pretty scarce. I think it's a good service for people who can handle it. However, I do not see myself using this service in the future. I personally need a little more security when renting/sharing cars. read more

I tried Getaround for the first time in order to drive to an important interview and it was a complete failure. Getaround reps moved me to three different vehicles, in three different locations, I didn't end up receiving access to any vehicle, and am now being insulted by one of their "customer service" reps, Gabriel via email. 1st car - The owner did not provide proper notice that the car was unavailable for driving, so when I arrived, I was unable to unlock the car even when the app told me that it was unlocked. 2nd car - A Getaround representative moved me to this vehicle at a separate location but failed to notice that car battery was completely dead. So, after taking a Lyft(an unexpected cost) to a second Getaround location, I was met with another non-working vehicle after the first Getaround vehicle did not work out. 3rd car- Yet another Getaround representative directed me to a third Getaround vehicle at a different parking garage. The app did not allow me to unlock the vehicle and I had to call Getaround again to unlock it for me. When I was finally able to access the car, it was dirty, the fuel was not filled, and the dashboard indicated that require maintenance needed to be completed. I was starting to get really upset with the whole situation because I was more time was passing and I had an interview to get to! I had to call Getaround for the 4th time and was told by Gabriel that Getaround would reimburse my lyft/uber costs (so I could at least make it to my interview late) and provide $40 credit for inconveniencing me. What he failed to mention was that the "reimbursement" was contingent on the original amount I was going to spend with my original Getaround vehicle. So when I sent him my 3 lyft receipts: 1) For unexpectedly having to travel to a second location. ($8.38) 2) My trip to my interview location. ($55.56) 3) My trip back from my interview location. ($54.40) I wasn't expecting to be told after the fact, that he could only reimburse one of the receipts and that the $40 credit was supposed to go towards renting one of Getaround's vehicles directly after my interview. (Photos 1&2 of what he emailed after the conversation) For having to deal with Getaround for over 2.5 hours, running across town to make it to vehicles that were not in working order, and being rushed to an important interview, I did not believe I was making an unreasonable request to have all of my receipts reimbursed. I've attached a few email exchanges between Gabriel and I and the ISSUE IS STILL NOT RESOLVED. I haven't responded to his last email(Photos 5&6), because it is the most ridiculous email I've ever received from a customer service rep and I don't even know how to respond. I just used Getaround for the first time this weekend. It was so easy to find a car close to me and get a reservation. The car location feature was user friendly and I found the car's parking spot without a problem. When I returned the car at the end of my trip, I had a bit of difficulty "ending" the trip in the app. But I called customer service and they resolved the issue in under a minute and were super friendly. It's super convenient that you can unlock the car directly from your phone, makes the service super easy to use. This is my second review. I would give Getaround negative stars if I could. After being charged $450 for an incident that was not my fault I left the first bad review. I do purchase the insurance everytime I rent a car. It has a $250 deductible. If I don't report damage it's an additional $200. They made me responsible for a back smashed window. Of course I would have reported the damage. I would have saved myself $200. Danielle from the customer service team reached out to me and did nothing. She emailed me on 12/23/20 and asked me if I had pictures of the driver side back window when I dropped it off. You can only submit 4 pictures of the car when you start your trip and end your trip. the worst thing I've ever seen. Their gas monitoring system sucks and they'll bill you for gas charges even when you fill the tank to 100% like I did. Then some guy on the help desk online will do insane math to gauge how many gallons of gas you purchased on your entire trip which leads you no closer to any refund. It's insane. They also charge you an additional $250 every time you go through a toll even though the Car has EZ Pass, and they could just bill you for the total toll cost. Not normally a Yelp reviewer, but I'm uncertain as to who else to turn to for resolution. Mind you, when the service works, it is phenomenal and comes in handy often for gig economy contract work. In my latest trip resulted in three vehicles and the third being inoperable and towed in a middle of a busy intersection, while they still charged me for it pending a claims investigation. The first had the check engine light come on, the second was ineligible for the service I rented it for, and the third broke down while commuting to work. After several conversations with customer service, they have made it so that I have to email for follow up purposes. No response as of yet. After 2 great experiences with the same getaround car, the third rental was probably my last with getaround. While I had no problems with the car, 2 days after I returned they sent me an email that the tire was damaged during my rental. I replied that I had no trouble and returned the car with the tire in tact. 3 days after that they wrote to me again saying they had concluded their investigation and had charged $300 to my credit card file, $100 for a new tire and $200 as a claim fee. I am furious! There is no way this incident was my fault, just not possible, yet I was blamed with almost no consideration. read more

Changing my review due to rude, unhelpful customer service. They tell me to call them if I have a problem but I've never waited less that ten minutes to actually talk to someone. I'm so over having to deal with them. I have had to restrict my car to very few hours a day because they do not have any customer service, and do not give owners any way to review the drivers. If someone returns my car improperly EVERY TIME, the only way I have to get them to not rent my car is to call the customer service line, which takes forever. Yeah kind of a bummer. I've used Getaround for a long time and it was convenient for a while, when it worked and customer service helped you when it didn't. However the last handful have been plagued with issues- mostly small technical problems and some annoying fees- and the most recent included fraudulent charges and poor customer service including the inability to get any real response back from Getaround customer service at all- just form emails. Somehow I was matched with a different car, up by Reading Terminal instead of Point Breeze and not fitting my needs for the day. I noticed right away I had been charged more than the car I was trying to book, but then saw refunds so I assumed it had been corrected. Nope- wrong car and the refunds didn't go through. Only the $200 charge for 4 hours! Woof. I have emailed and emailed and even called during the trip I rebooked with a different car (you can only call during a trip) and was told no one could speak to me on the phone, that they apologized for the bug but they couldn't refund me the other 50% of the booking cost. It's stealing, and terrible customer experience, and I would encourage others to think twice before using this service. I won't be again- too much of a headache! Update: it took wayyy more effort on my part, but eventually it was resolved which I appreciate. I hope they rectify the issues, both technical and otherwise. Updating to 3 stars read more

I've made enough money to cover my car payment, insurance, my monthly parking costs, AND a few hundred more... Some of the renters, however, have left the car dirty, stained, or with some damage. And most of them do not fill the tank. They have put some serious milage on the car as well. And some of them have straight up ignored my calls/texts to check on the car. read more

As someone who does ride-share part time, Getaround is easily the best option for someone who doesn't currently own a rideshare eligible vehicle. I've made about 8-10 rentals with them, but have also tried multiple alternatives. All fall short of Getaround in customer service, simplicity, and availability of vehicles. They've resolved issues, put me in a different vehicle quickly when there was an issue with pickup, even though the situation was not their fault. Let my reviewing of them without request or reward, be a testament to their efficiency. Using car rental companies in NYC like Enterprise or Budget or Alamo is a nightmare.  What GET AROUND taught us is that it can actually get worse.  For 10 years we have been renting cars in NYC, trying new modes of transportation searching for easier ways to get around town or go on trips.  So far using traditional rental car companies has been the best option however it's still awful for a number of reasons, we hoped this service GET AROUND could actually make things more convenient and more affordable so we gave it a shot.  We were wrong and learned our lesson, it is actually easier and more affordable to use a car rental company and here's why:  1) the setup of the application and approval process took literally hours, I'm not joking.  I could have gone back and forth to a car rental company and rented a car 7 times before I had completed installing the app and getting all the approvals.  And to boot, the whole process took over my google account and rearranged things to a manner I still haven't been able to figure out how to undo so that's a mess.  2) We got to the car pickup location on time and there was no attendant to be found or called, also the owner of the car could not be reached.  It took over an hour just to find our car, and when you've rented it for 8 hours you've now wasted 1/8 of your rental time where as I would not have going to a car rental company.  3)  While trying to unlock the car through the application it wasn't working, it took several tries and never actually completely worked.  Images were never uploaded of the interior or gas levels and when I returned the car they claimed the fuel level was low (it was not) but they claimed it was even though they have no photos to prove the levels of where the gas was before using the car.  I have been trying to contact GET AROUND about this and they still have not gotten back to me.  4)  The car was filthy and stunk like cigarettes.  In the cup holders and all around the car there was tobacco, ashes and remnants of marijuana.  I kid you not, I have the photos to prove it.  I also found a wine glass in the back seat with wine in it.  Who leave alcohol and drugs in the car for someone to rent?  OMG.  5) The car was not in good shape so GET AROUND does not inspect their cars (nor make sure their clean), the car needs an alignment and the breaks squeaked and didn't work well.  At a car rental company at least you know you get a CLEAN AND SAFE car. 6) GET AROUND limits mileage - and then charges for additional miles.  Car rental companies regularly give out unlimited mileage!  7) And here's the kicker.... GET AROUND actually COST MORE than a rental care company.  I can rent a car for a full 24 hours sometimes for under $90 in NYC.  $90 won't get you 5 hours in a GET AROUND vehicle.  So after all these points.. what is the point of GET AROUND?  It's simply a gimmick and doesn't actually work better, don't waste your money. GET AROUND has still not responded to me or taken care of the incorrect gas charges.  As a lifetime New Yorker who truly understands the importance of how we get around - this is not a good option.  What GET AROUND has given me though is a new perspective on the car rental companies in NYC.  They are not great, but they are the best option so at least I feel better visiting Enterprise, Alamo or Budget.  There's plenty of locations in NYC to pick up cars from and easily drop them off without the hassles of GET AROUND. read more

I'm a bit surprised reading some of the reviews that mention that customer service has been an issue. I've been renting my car since mid-November and have experienced excellent customer service. My car has been rented regularly (nearly every day this month.) Most renters have returned the car with no issues. However, I have experienced some minor and major issues with a few renters. Getaround has handled these issues promptly. It can be time consuming, from filling the gas tank when the previous renter failed to do so, to renters smoking (not cigarettes!) in the car to some more serious issues (driving with the emergency brake still engaged, scraping side mirror, etc.) But Getaround has always resolved these issues. I would highly recommend Getaround, whether renting a car or having your car available for rentals. read more

I rented a car for a day trip to the beach. The process was smooth. However, we did have a little issue because the car owner reported smoke in the car, so they charged me. Thankfully, I had videos and was diligent with the company to clear my name and case of the incident, and my agent Victor was very helpful and made sure that I received a refund. :-) I'll certainly use again! read more
