Okay y'all... let me just say this LOUD for the people in the back Philly Dave's is IT. We had the original Philly cheesesteak with sweet potato fries and I'm still thinking about it. Hot, fresh, packed with flavor... the kind of food that makes you pause mid-bite like "hold on... this is GOOD good." And can we talk about the owner?! So attentive and genuinely kind. We remember him from his "shack" days, and seeing him now just makes it even better. You can tell he really cares about what he's serving. 6/10/26. Let me start by saying I've been coming to this place for a couple of years and it is usually outstanding. I drive 40 minutes one-way to get here every time, so it's just that good....usually. However it was quite disappointing this time, with both the service and the food. I should have known something was up when my friend and I walked in and the usual older gentleman was not up front taking orders. This was the start of an experience that was just off in nearly every aspect. We placed our order (each ordered the exact same thing-Philly cheesesteak and regular fries) and sat down to wait for our food. About 20 minutes later the nice lady that took our order at the front behind the counter came to our table and asked if we had our food yet. It was fairly obvious since our table had only drinks on it and no sandwich baskets. We told her no, she walked off without saying anything, and came back 5 minutes later to tell us they lost our order and asked us to tell her our order again. We gave her the order again and we received our food about 5 minutes later. However, my friend's order was not correct; it was missing all the vegetables. He carried his food back to the lady to explain the order was missing ingredients. He received his correct order about 3 minutes later. So, service was not good. As for the steak sandwich itself we both agreed the quality was not there like it usually is. My sandwich was swimming in fat and grease (I realize a Philly cheesesteak sandwich can be quite greasy due to the fat content within the meat, but this is not the norm for this place). And the flavor was actually very bland with almost no seasoning whatsoever. Everything was there; it was just unimpressive. I didn't say anything because I was already uncomfortable from the bad service and just didn't want to add to the situation. Another side note-they usually bring out a steak knife with a whole sandwich so you can cut it in half due to the generous size of a whole sandwich. There was no knife! Everything was so off from normal that we began to wonder if perhaps the place was sold and the new ownership was struggling a little. Then right as we were getting up to leave the older gentleman that usually runs the place showed up and began his usual walk around the dining area to visit with patrons. So, I don't know about any changes, other than this was no where close to our usual experience. I will probably come back to give it another shot, but it definitely gave me some pause. read more

Thought I had reviewed this place in the past, guess not... I've had breakfast and lunch/dinner here, so I'll cover both. Straight to the Philly. Its on Amaroso bread, check 1. They offer cheese whiz or provolone, check 2. Is it good? Check 3. This is a solid Philly and it can be customized any way you want. They don't skimp on meat or condiments, I think they are served fairly. The steak fries are great too. Never tried their burger, but it looks good and lots of people opt for it over the Philly when I've been there. As for breakfast, I'd say its just ok. Similar to a diner, you won't be disappointed and you won't be dazzled either. It was served quickly and priced fairly. No complaints here. As for the employees, I love the old guy. He can be edgy, but it doesn't bother me. I could see where some people may not get his humor, but I'd prefer someone with character over bland or dismissive any day. read more

So, I had heard that Dave had been the original owner of another philly place in the area. Which I have been too but only had found out about that place after he had sold it. Then he ended up opening Philly Dave's. I had been meaning to stop by here because I kept reading on social media that they were glad to have Dave's open up ... so when my kiddo had a make up class during the day we swung by for lunch. My kiddo demolished his kids chicken tenders and fries. I got a half of a hot philly, meaning with the peppers. It was the perfect amount of food with a good helping of fries. Someone had to help me finish them. We got a thing of onion rings to try, and while both are good I'll probably get those with my half sandwich next time. When you just need to have a Philly cheesesteak head here for one of the best I've ever eaten. The Philly is served piping hot with your choice of peppers, onions, mushrooms and cheese, including cheese wiz for you purists. The staff is friendly and personable and there's plenty of seating in a nice dining area if you want to eat it here. I have seen this place driving by and always wanted to stop and try it out. Today I did and my tummy thanked me. Let's start with the service. Dave himself took my order, with a side or humor and within a few minutes my authentic Philly cheesesteak and fries basket was delivered to me. Which brings us to the food. Holy cow was it ever good! Again, authentic and plentiful. Absolutely delicious. The place has a chill vibe and so the ambiance is great, with both inside and outside places to eat. One nice feature is a roll of paper towels set on each table (you will need them!). So, 5 stars from me on this experience. If you are in the area, it is 100% worth stopping in and giving them a try. Ordered takeout on Saturday night around 6:45 pm. It was very prompt, but I am glad I got there early as it was waiting for me. I ordered a 10" Philly, a Dave's burger, onion rings, and fried pickles. First, the restaurant was very well kept; it was not very busy, but it was pretty close to their closing time, so maybe that was the case. The person behind the counter was friendly, but we only exchanged a couple of words, and again, friendly. It was clean and quiet in the restaurant, so I would have enjoyed sitting down to eat here for sure. The food was good, not great, but good. I was a bit disappointed with the Philly. First, I LOVE cheeseteaks, and I have eaten IN Philly, which makes me...well...no expert, but I just thought I would throw that out there :D. The taste of it was really good, and we got jalapenos on it, which gave it a nice kick. The downfall was that it seemed like they were scraping the bin of beef for the sandwich, as it was not very full, and it felt that it was just bits of beef. The meat-to-bun ratio was not where I expected it. The burger was also ok, not great. It felt like it was cooked a while ago, and again, I don't dock a restaurant because getting takeout can be a MUCH different experience from a food perspective, but again, the burger felt like it was cooked a while ago. It was not seasoned very well at all and was a bit dry. We got fried pickles and onion rings. I would not mention the crispiness of fried foods cause getting takeout can get steamed and take away from the crispiness. The onion rings were actually still very crispy and good size. I liked them a lot. The pickles were less crispy, but its pickles, which carry water, thus adding to possibly sogginess. Could be that the chips were just a bit too big. Overall, the bill came to about $40, which seems a bit much, but its not horribly at all. I may try to go here and eat inside, during the day, to see if there is a different experience. Not saying that it would be better if that is the case, we are all judged by our worst moments, and as a restaurant, you should strive to be great during your busy times as well as your slow times. I've been waiting to try this place since it first opened, but wanted to wait until the rush slowed down a bit. Arrived during lunch hour on a Saturday, the place was packed. There were maybe a few tables left to dine in. I ordered to-go, and it took about 15 minutes for the food to come out. You can tell the food was cooked as you order. Both the hubby and I went for the 10" Philly cheesesteak loaded with everything, and it was delicious! I can't remember eating such a memorable sandwich in a while. The sandwich was packed with savory meat. The seasoning was also perfect - not overly salty. I finished everything in one sitting. I didn't realize they serve breakfast, which is next on my list. I was in the mood for a Philly sandwich. I saw online Philly Dave's was a good place to go for a Philly. We went for lunch to check them out. They had a good crowd at lunch with only a few tables left to sit. We ordered at the counter then sat down. Nice diner type restaurant with a help yourself drink station. The drink mix was a little too sweet, but that could just be my taste buds. The food took a while to come to the table. They only had one guy making the food. The food is made to order and like I said they were very busy. If you have a short lunch, you may need to call ahead. The Philly was very good I got the 1/2 Philly with onion rings. I really enjoyed the taste the hot peppers were a great addition. The onion rings were good, I would have liked more but they were still plenty. So I saw all the hype on Facebook talking about Philly Dave's that just opened up at the old Stevie's Diner location. Everyone raved about the Philly's and the onion rings. Dave ran the Philly restaurant in Watauga and retired after he sold it a few years ago. We've been there and it's ok. It seems they changed some recipes and hence the reason they aren't packed like this. So Dave has come out of retirement and opened this new location. We stopped in around 6 on a Friday. The line was almost to the door and only a couple of tables open. They've done well redecorating from the previous diner. Thing fancy but looked like new tables and chairs. I really liked how they invested in very visible menus. Makes it so much easier to read. Dave was sitting on a bar stool at the register taking orders. This place was hopping busy. Every two minutes someone walked in for a to go order. We ordered two Philly's with whiz and onion rings. It comes with a fountain drink too. All that for $14. An incredible deal for dinner for two. Especially with this economy. We only waited about 15 minutes for our food. A nice young lady brought all The meals out to the tables and was walking around checking on everyone. Amazing customer service! Wow !!!! The Philly tasted even better than it looks!! They were piping hot and we even had to let it cool a little bit. It's so messy I had to use a fork. Get the metal fork because it's packed with meat and cheese and that plastic fork won't cut it. Omg it was by far the best Philly I've ever had. The onion rings were legit too! Man, I wanted to like this place. I rated a 2 because I tried something new (chez whiz) which I did not like. That's not their fault. Service: I read the reviews before going and saw a few people speak about them being rude. Unfortunately, I experienced the sharp comments as well. I will say I have an auntie from up North and she comes off as rude a lot but it's just a culture difference. Being a business in the South though you may want to be mindful that a little southern hospitality goes a long way. She asked if I wanted utensils and ketchup. I answered, "Both please." Her response was "Being greedy aren't you?" So yeah. I just laughed because I was shocked. I did a call-in and her personality wasn't right for the phone. Very cold. I didn't have a long wait because I called ahead. Food: No season at all on steak. Peppers and onions seemed frozen or just not fresh at all. It tastes really bad. Quick Note: If you are in a hurry, this might not be the place for you. When we ordered they said it would be about 15 minutes but wound up being closer to 30. This was our first time here and we were quite pleased. The cheese steak, fries, and onion rings were very good. I got my cheese steak with cheese wiz and my husband got his with provolone. What a hidden gem that I stumbled across one night after turning the wrong way out of the grocery store parking lot. I went in and the place was pretty well packed. I think I got the last table. I ordered a Philly Cheesesteak, with all the options on it. Nice and hot and spicy, just the way I like it. Then I ordered some chili cheese fries, and drink. It all came to about $18.93. It was so good, I couldn't stop thinking about it, so a couple days later I came back and got the exact same order. I'll be back. I met Dave, and what a nice guy who's living his retirement years out serving the community some great food, and it seems pretty obvious that everyone else eating there is enjoying it too. I've visited the old location several times this new location blows it away! Cowboy western decor and an expanded menu from breakfast to dinner plenty of options.The wife ordered the Shrimp basket w/fries (they were out of the sweet potatoe fries) and I came for the namesake Philly and went with the provolone over the cheese whiz this time. The bread (Amoroso) I'm not familiar with anywhere else goes perfect with the shaved ribeye both apparently brought in from Philadelphia ( that's cool), had the 10" with fries definitely one of the best in the area. Everything was cook when ordered and served with a smile and kindness. A good meal with friendly folks almost gives it a home feel most people that came in knew the staff by name.Dining area only had a few people eating but they were kicking out the to go orders also. The food here is so good. I have been 3 times. First two times I had the Philly cheese steak, and it was perfect. Today I decided to try the hatch chili burger and, well, wow!! It was amazing. I love how everything is cooked to order and comes out hot and fresh. If you're a breakfast person, the guy at the next table had some biscuits and gravy that looked tasty (and thick crispy real bacon). Tell your friends. Go try it. Food is decent and portions are good for price, I did t leave hungry so that was great. To get your food they yell out your name so not the greatest system there, they need servers or get buzzers for the table. I had breakfast and hash browns were soggy, barely cooked. Breakfast burrito is ok but not large or well put together. Over all nothing special about this place to make me rave about or really even want to go back. Guy up front taking orders was really rude and literally said "I don't care what you don't want, tell me what you want" when ordering. Not a welcoming ambience for sure. read more

Tried this place a while back. My husband and I were excited to try the new restaurant close to our home. Plus we loved the brunch place that was here prior to this one opening up. Upon walking in to this place (we were basically the only customer there at the time) the older guy immediately said "you guys brought the flies in with you?" I'm guessing a fly flew in as we walked in. My husband and I were confused but brushed it off. We only ordered a couple of fruit cups and a coffee after that since we were a little uncomfortable with the greeting. We decided to try it again but we ordered to go. For locals, the owner used to own another philly and burger place on Denton Hwy / 377 and that place was great...and brought all that to this location, plus added breakfast. I've had a couple phillys from here now and they never disappoint. They are loaded with meat, cheese, various peppers and Amaroso bread. The bread is an important note because it doesn't fail...at least not until your last couple bites. Their fries are crispy and seasoned perfectly. They offer various specialty phillys, so be sure to check the wall before you order. Service is great, the servers are very personable. You'll see comments about the owner, and while he's got an edge to him, he's harmless and is just trying to get you to smile/laugh. Location offers plenty of seating, mix of tables and bar tops. Everything we have gotten from this restaurant has been top shelf in flavor and portion size. The fried catfish is amazing comes with a nice size of catfish, one side,hush puppies and a small garnish of creamy fresh coleslaw, with your choice of tartar and/or cocktail sauce.
