Checked out this typical looking public golf course in Aurora. It thankfully is located in a nice park. Phillips Park Golf Course gets most of its action in summer. For sure one has to come when the weather is good. The course is pretty well maintained but can be a little boring to be honest. Among the more affordable golf courses around here and among the few that are public and not a part of a country club. It's a full 18 hole course with maintained greens. There's a good variety in the yardage. Among the amenities are carts. Of course any respectable course should have these. Also there's a clubhouse with a bar and grill. There's a menu of golf themed cocktails along with basic greasy stuff like burgers and wings. If wanting to get lessons, there's a PGA approved instructor. There's also tournaments for juniors. Fairly good place to play golf. It's located on Hill Avenue at Montgomery. The course gets crowded at times especially on weekends. read more

Great golf course kept in nice shape. Challenging but not overly difficult for the average golfers

This review is for the driving range an pro shop. Today I decided to take a ride to the driving range and test out a new club. A full bucket of balls is just $8.00 and small bucket is $4.00. It's very simple, go into the pro shop, pay the fee, a code is on the receipt and take the bucket and code to the shed, enter the code and viola a bucket of balls! There is excellent spacing on the range and the distances to the flags is clearly marked on a map key/legend visible from the practice tees. The practice balls were in good shape and had life to them. A bonus as many ranges the balls are worn out or damaged. The range was clean with no littering anywhere. One pet peeve is the patrons that leave their empty buckets. It's just a short walk to the ball dispenser to return the baskets, really no reason not to do so. While I didn't play the course, I did notice the ranger monitoring players at the start of the first hole , and a clock visible so one could tee off on time. For a first time visit, the facilities were very impressive and I'm looking forward to a return visit. read more

If it weren't for seeing my old high school teacher and the great memories of tournaments I played here, I would have given it a 1 star. It's $4 for a small and $8 for a large bucket. I purchased the $8 because why not help out a business during these trying times? I deeply regret it. I do not appreciate the disrespect and the poor attitude of the man in his 40's here. You don't know if it's someone's first time golfing and giving the course a shot, or if they're a seasoned golfer coming back to the place they once loved. Regardless NO ONE should be watched and followed intensely or have their credit card and receipt tossed towards them as if they had no business there. Poor customer service only keeps your customers away. I'd rather pay double the price for a bucket of balls, or $20-30 for an hour at a "driving range" and receive better service than go to a place where you're looked down upon and made to feel like you've got not place at a golf course. So yeah, I see why places like TopGolf are so popular. read more

Played in earl September. Course was in good shape but they need to space their tee times more. Couldn't finish 18 within 5 hours and ran out of daylight. Course was jam packed on back 9, delays on every hole with golf balls flying all around us. Wouldn't go back on a weekend. Not worth the green fees in my opinion but I'd go back on a slower day. read more

Great golfing value, especially if you are a resident. the course is user friendly to beginning golfers, but has enough trouble to challenge mid-level golfers. The facility has a nice grass range (mats on Mondays) and a 3 hole beginner or childrens course. The lack of a beverage cart has been corrected. The beverage cart business changed from privately run to being run be the city and they screwed up on getting their liquor license. read more

Our foursome loves Phillips Park GC. The way they maintain the course is amazing. And of course they want you to be careful riding on the course, but they make carts available as soon as the weather improves. And a big tip of the golf hat to the Phillips Park pro, Jeff. He's always a classy guy even if your a duffer which I'm definitely not. read more

My husband and I had a really lovely time playing golf at Phillips Park. The course had some nice little rolling hills that made things interesting. I thought it was pretty well priced. It's not a pristine course, but I am not a good golfer, so that's fine with me. Most of the holes aren't very long. The starter was helpful, funny and nice. Most importantly, the beer wasn't over priced and they had a few options. I will definitely be back! read more

We won't be returning any time soon. Granted, this place is down the street from me - literally a 5 minute car ride. I would walk, but that means risking it through Moecherville. I'm not an idiot. Went back to Phillip's - my last visit was three years ago. Two major issues and a few positive pieces. Positives: Well kept, soft fairways, soft approach, well defined out of bounds and overall great course in regards to aesthetics. You won't get that obnoxious chemical smell of artificial fertilizers that you get at Country Lakes (it's clear I don't like that place either). Negatives: 1. Green brushing at 12:00 pm. We experienced a delay of about 15 minutes while a greenskeeper felt it necessary to brush the greens smack dab in the middle of the day. This lead to a delay at the first tee box and of course ours (2nd hole) - at least three other groups were backed into ours. Granted, this place is nice looking and all - their timing on upkeep is not very well planned. 2. Entitled and Arrogant Ranger. I've read some recent reviews including a rude and arrogant ranger. I believe we experienced him yesterday. He's a load of junk. We finished the front nine - went in and grabbed a drink and candy bar - not even ten minutes off course. Not a big deal as we followed their rules of not taking longer than a 10 minute break in between front and back. When we came up to 10 there was no one at all on the fairway at 9 - maybe teeing off, but no one in sight. Also, 10 had no one on the green. Perfect timing to jump back in and not impact pace of play, right? Exactly. Played 10 and moved on to 11 - no delay. We hit 12 and BAM - delay. Apparently a single on a cart jumped in and the two groups of four in front of him (who we were following on the front 9 originally were still slow). We tee'd off at 12 and both had awesome shots on the green (par 3). Mid put the ranger drives up - old guy, maybe 70 ish with a pot belly and his high and mighty blue ranger flag asks us, 'where did you two come from'. Then proceeded to give us a bunch of garbage about why we shouldn't skip placing mid round. Sorry, buddy, but you don't have a beverage cart - all I wanted was a water/poweraid. Then lectures us on taking more than a 10 minute break and that the people behind us are complaining that we're slowing them. This is all a massive load of crap by the way. We weren't off course for more than 7 mins tops - time to buy a water and candy bar. No one was behind us until we reached the delay at the tee on 12 - caused by two foursomes that sucked and a single that didn't want to group in with us. Yet, we're the issue?! Wow. I can't play any faster than the people in front of me. Topping it off, the ranger says this, "If I have to come back to you two you're f*&^ing out of here". Really? Really? You're swearing at us now for what you've realized is a lost battle mid argument? Really? Here's the kicker. He said he would go back and talk to the people behind and in front of us - everyone behind and in front of us was substantially older - white hair and all. We're two 30 somethings. So you know what his conversation was to the older guys - hey, there are two young whipper snappers fouling everything up! Yeah, right. He never addressed the two slow foursomes and the solo that were the true cause of the delay. I can't play faster than the people in front of me and we jumped in with no one behind us and no one in front of us - without exceeding the 10 minute break rule. The ranger is a load of crap. After swearing at us and riding us like a tool bag he is I gave him the finger and told him what I thought - he drove away. Nothing more than an old angry man that has no appreciation for the individuals playing at his course. Never mind the fact that he's a city employee - apparently if you work for the city you can get away with busted logic and swearing at customers. Soooo I'm not returning here ever again. If the Ranger we dealt with yesterday is reading this go ahead and respond. Tell me your side of the story so I can poke holes in it you piece of crap. Stay away from this place unless you want to be the Rangers next target. Lose the angry Ranger and this place is a better course - right away. read more

Unfortunately, an experience at a pretty nice course was ruined by a ranger who thought he was more important than his customers. The course is in good shape overall and is fun to play. Hazards are minimal and the course is pretty short, so it's a relatively easy play. My cousin and I enjoyed the course for the price. I can imagine the course could get pretty busy normally. We teed off at 5:30 after a rainy day, so the course was pretty empty for us. The girl inside was friendly enough and asked us to have the carts in "around 7:30ish." We started on 10 to avoid a group who had just teed off on the front. We flew through the back, finishing in an hour. As we were about to tee off on the front, the ranger came flying up in his cart to block our cart and rudely asked in an accusatory manner if we had already played 18 holes. I told him that we just started on ten and asked if he wanted to see my receipt. He said that he did and as I went to grab it, he said never mind and told us to have the carts in by 7:30. I have no problem with him coming over to us, but the way he handled it was demeaning and rude when there was absolutely no reason to be. Less than an hour later as we were walking on to the 17th green, he drove up to us again and said, "This is your last hole guys," and drove away. It was 7:25. He didn't care that we were going to finish by 7:40 (7:30ish as the girl in the clubhouse asked), nor that my cousin was even par on the back, nor that we were the paying customers, nor that his tone was rude again. We finished 17 and headed in. As we were driving back, he was driving towards us again to ensure that we were coming in. When he saw that we were, he turned around. The ranger had no reason to be as rude as he was. Clearly, he did not want to be there and his extra ten minutes were more important than his paying customers'. As a result of the way were treated, we will never go back to the course again, especially with so many comparable courses with much better service nearby. Disappointing, since we thought we had discovered a new enjoyable course. read more

Well manicured, challenging (but not brutally so) and not too expensive. No problem getting cart service -- the girl came by half a dozen times, and we never bought anything. Not too busy (Monday late afternoon). Nothing much in the clubhouse, but that's hardly a big deal. From the looks of it, they even have an on-site golf learning center. read more

Played here last week because it's a nice course and reasonable priced. I have played here a dozen times and never had any trouble with bringing alcohol, except this time. The man at the first tee asked what we had in the coolers and I told him beer (in cans) and he took them and said we could pick it up at the club house at the end. Went to pick it up after 18 and the gentleman at the front desk told us he didn't understand why he took the beer. read more

What a miserable morning! The pro shop, starter and course marshal need to work together to insure that tee times aren't oversold and that players have some familiarity with golf. Pace of play was glacial, we waited on every single shot as inexperienced golfers crisscrossed the fairways in search of mis-hit balls. We gave up at the 5th tee when we encountered 2 foursomes waiting to tee off. Terrible management. read more

We played this course on a Saturday morning, having reserved tee times on their website for $50/each. It was busy, but the play wasn't terribly slow. The cart issue from previous reviews was fixed - quite the assortment of beer. The course itself is a very solid municipal course, it's not easy but it's also not challenging. A great course for folks just starting out or those that shoot in the 90-100 range. The range was also pretty cheap -$4/bucket. The greens were well maintained and I was impressed with the course condition. Having played courses much worse and courses much better (and more expensive), I don't think it's fair to rate this course 5 stars....but overall, it was a very good experience, a great value and we will be adding it to the course rotation. read more

I'm giving this golf course five stars because for the price, you cannot find a better golf course! Greens were healthy and challenging, yet not too quick. Overall course layout was very fun to play, with drastic elevation changes you don't see in most courses around here. I found that to be the most challenging for me. My only complaint would be that when I played, the rough was pretty long. (Maybe it was cut the day after...) The bunkers were sometimes un raked, and there were a few too many ball marks on some of the greens. But considering the price, those things didn't even bother me. And to be fair, lazy golfers were to blame for those issues. Jeff Schmidt, the head pro/ operations manager here, was very friendly when I met him! I believe he offers lessons as well. The course also has a nice driving range, and a small area for chipping and putting. I look forward to playing here again! read more

Nice golf course. Price is ok. Make sure you have an alarm on your car though. My van was burglarized yesterday in there parking lot. Parked in front spot and locked. Played 18 holes only to come back to van and find out it had been burglarized. Staff seemed uninterested at the time. , read more
