Do not recommend at all. not beginner friendly & not accepting of younger crowds. the regular customers are mostly seniors who make you feel unwelcome & are very rude. They removed my boyfriend & I off the course immediately after being on second base , when we paid almost $200. They did not let us know we had to have experience when we specifically told them several times we had never golfed before. They took a whole week to return my money to my bank account. This golf course is not a terrible course, but it's overpriced for what it is. It's $49 with the Chicago Golf Pass, and more for non-residents. My friends were saying that it's pretty nice, and some holes are, but there is a list of things that were annoying. There were several fairways that were pretty torn up, and some tee boxes were really bad. There were so many divots and scalped grass that it's hard to find a place to tee up your ball, much less stand on even ground! A lot of the skinned grass was fresh too- like the golfers here didn't have the respect to put it back. There was one sand trap that had heaps of sand in it that were about 6 ft tall! It was as if all the fill sand for the whole course was dumped in that one trap! The last thing I'd list is the amount of drains and manways. The fairway would slope towards them at a steep angle in about a 10 ft radius, and they were just not aesthetic. So after the list of bad, here's the good: the staff is nice and courteous, the golf cart seemed like it was in good condition, and the length of the holes was enjoyable (many ~400 yard par 4's). Overall, I was just disappointed with this course. I could think of two or three other places in the area I would rather golf for the same price, so if you're looking to try a new place, look elsewhere. read more

Great deal as a resident at $29 to walk. We had a 9:20 am tee time on Sunday morning and I was a bit worried as there was a pretty good pile-up at the first tee. Starter kept everything in order, and after waiting on the 2nd hole we never were held up again. Course is in great shape, and Billy Casper Golf (who took it over) has spend some money on improvements. The 17th hole (Par 3) played form temporary tees, but all else was in order. I read through the reviews on here before golfing at Orchard Valley, and I will probably echo a lot of what was already said. The course was pretty well manicured. There were a few rough fairways, but nothing too bad. We experienced the rushing from the course marshals pretty much right away. There was a larger group behind us that I guess had to be some where because they were up our ass the entire round. Maybe they should consider spacing out the tee times more or something. We paid $70 each to play, dont rush us. We like to enjoy our time, not run around. Not everyone is a pro. Im not sure if I have higher standards for what I think a golf course should be, but the amenities at this place were junk. The beverage cart, although run by a very friendly lady, only had beers, shots, and other alcohol. No snacks of any kind. What is the deal with that? I couldnt get a snack until the open, and all they had were hot dogs. Why dont golf courses offer sandwiches? If I could grab a pre-made sandwich and run that would be a lot quicker than making and then eating a hot dog in front of the stand. I dont get this. I dont need anything fancy, give the cart girl some chips or something. Although I was told by a friend that this was the 6th nicest golf course in Illinois, I dont see it. Sure, it was fun to play, and was laid out well, but the whole place felt ultra dated and stuffy. Ill definitely take my money else where in the future. read more

A decent course ruined by rude and obnoxious course rangers and inconsiderate staff. The course rangers expect everyone to play at a professional pace, regardless of skill. Additionally, one of the course rangers actually told us that "ready golf" was to be standing at your ball, even if a player is hitting BEHIND you... I don't know about others, but never, ever stand in front of someone hitting a golf ball. The grounds staff regularly mowed the fairways and roughs while I was ON THE HOLE playing. Orchard Valley should be embarrassed. Play this course if you want to be rushed and asked to play at the pace of a pro and risk having your ball run over by a lawnmower. I'll never recommend this course to a friend or family member. read more

Went here with my coworker to grab lunch and everything about my experience was so bad it finally caused me to sign up for Yelp. We sat at the bar and the bartender took our drink order (water and diet coke). She came back a few minutes later and took our order. We then sat for 45 minutes without a word from the bartender regarding the status of our food or asking if we needed a refill (we did). I inquired about the status of our order and that we'd been waiting for 45 minutes. She blamed the slowness on a large group in a separate dining room. No apologies from the staff and no offer to refill our drinks. Finally our soup arrived, then it took another 15 minutes for our meals to arrive. Once we were finished it took another 10 minutes for the bartender to reappear so we could ask for our bill. Once again no apology for the extreme wait time. The food was not very good either. The French Onion soup was too heavily salted and the steak sandwich was adequate, but nothing special. Worst customer service I've ever experienced. Will never go again. read more

My Home away from Home. This place gets better every year. I'll start by saying the Staff is the nicest around. The course is ranked in the top 10 in IL, nothing more to say there. Asst Mgr Kim is the WO-MAAN....Mr. Top Chef Sean makes sure things are right in the Bar/Dining area. From my membership fee to the 19th hole, this place takes the cake. One thing, if you're not a 10 HC or better, play from the white tees, this place will take a 12 balls from you in a heartbeat, 14 holes of water and small greens, you do the math. Was visiting some friends last week and decided to go to Orchard Valley for a round of golf. Really enjoyed the layout of the course and got some food and drinks after our round. The staff was great and made us feel welcomed. Would recommend if you are in the area. read more

Came here on a Saturday morning at 8:32am for 18 holes with a 3-some. We rode carts and it was $80 a piece which is on the expensive side but not too bad. As you do at this time of day on a weekend we waited for about 30% of our shots which wasn't all that bad ended up finishing the round in 4 hours and 45 minutes. We saw the ranger driving around but I don't know how active he was or even needed to be. The drink cart girl was a hot girl probably right out of high school as they usually are in the suburbs. I was a fan, made sure to creepily drive over to her every time I wanted to turn down the purchase of a refreshment. The course is in great condition, greens are super soft but the flipside is that they're a bit too slow. The course is fairly short overall, I found myself teeing off with less than a driver more times than I would have liked (you can reach the green with a well struck 5 wood on #1) but you can always be ballsy and hit the thing anyway. The course will punish you for an errant shot. That said, if you play this conservatively it's a pretty easy course, I put up a 77 without having any control over my irons for the day. The rough wasn't bad enough to neutralize my incredible short game so I pretty much got up and down relatively easily on every hole I needed to giving me lots of pars and a couple birdies on the par 5s. Overall it's worth a trip from another suburb but from the city it's a little far when you can drive half the distance to play Harborside for an extra $10. I'm sure I'll be back here just not this year. read more

I'm a fan of Orchard Valley Golf Course. The course itself is in very good shape except for the greens right now. But they are working on the diseased greens and as a result of the greens not being in pristine condition, the green fees are drastically reduced. The rest of the course is in fine shape. And it is a challenging track with bunkers a plenty and water coming into play on many shots. The staff is very accommodating and friendly. I would like to see a GPS on the carts since there is so much water. It helps to know how far away certain targets are. But that's my only criticism. Once the greens overcome the diseased grass, OV will be top notch. read more

I had a mid morning tee time so I stopped at the driving range. Swiped my card, no balls. I was assured by three staff members that I wouldn't be charged. But, I was. "Man, I love this game!" That's what we all say when we hit a great shot, as opposed to a bad shot: "Sonuva *****!" Having golfed here twice, I must say (regardless of the quality of your golf skills), that after the 18th hole at Orchard Valley, you'll leave exclaiming, "Man, I love this game!" Be sure to head to the clubhouse afterward for a drink or two, there's always a good deal. Overall, it's the best bang-for-your-buck course around. read more

Driving range claims to offer " grass" tees but you're always forced to use mats even with warm dry weather so don't plan on hitting a few shots to loosen up before an expensive round. Also, ball machine is 50/50 as to wether it's working. I live 5 minutes away but now prefer to travel to play as nice and more affordable courses WITH a nice range. read more

This is a very challenging course from the tips at 6800 yards with a slope rating of 134. The pros: The layout! Very challenging holes protected by numerous bunkers and water water everywhere. Some holes give you shortcuts with a great drive over water, which are mostly to the right. Several of the par 3's have water and are over 200 yards. The greens are fast but not a lot of undulation. Electric carts are quiet. The cons: Greens were a bit beat up with ball marks everywhere but they were pretty true. There are divots everywhere on the fairways. Players or staff should fix them as often as possible. We paid $30 on a weekend at end of October which is why the course was a bit beat up. But at that price it's one of the best deals for the course. read more

I had my son's baptism here last weekend and I cannot say enough good things!!! The view was beautiful, the food was amazing and the staff was so friendly and attentive!! Sarah, the banquet coordinator, was very helpful and accommodating since I booked the event. I dropped off all the decorations the day before and the staff set up everything beautifully! I received so many compliments on how lovely the venue was and even had family saying they want to book there in the future. Played last Sunday morning , Overall it's a Nice layout and a good value. However the course is currently suffering from poor maintenance and upkeep. Ball marks on the greens and divots everywhere. Many bunkers flooded or washed out from recent rains. Greens were recently aerated with large plugs, not filled in well with sand Greens are slow and bumpy- need to be cut and rolled. Most disappointing round I ever played here. read more

In the middle of a round on an 85 degree paying 72 dollar full price, we get to the halfway house to find it is closed. At 10am. No cart person the front nine so far. I call the pro shop to ask what's up? They respond that there is no cart person yet and the halfway house will not be open. For full price we should get full service. Booked a tee time online at a different price than indicated. Was charged a $17 cart fee (each) for every person in the foursome even though there were only two carts. Played the first 9 holes in two hours, but from that point on there were three groups on each hole. On hole 16 there were FIVE groups tee to green. Ridiculous! There was no ranger on a Saturday afternoon and the Back-9 ended up taking us over 3 hours!!! On top of all that the Starter was rude to my foursome and very negative towards us. Needless to say, I will never play there again because from what I've heard this is the standard. read more

Orchard Valley GC- The course is one of my favorites to play, but every time I walk away with lousy customer service. Starters and Rangers love to yell at people and give them a hard time for absolutely nothing. I had a 7:50 tee time and showed up at 7:46 and was reprimanded for not being there a full 5-10 minutes early. After the turn (which we did not stop) instructed us to pick up the pace even though we were on the tail of the group ahead of us. Not a fun/ relaxing environment. I had my wedding there on March 31st, Sarah and the whole staff went above and beyond to make our day special!! The staff was on top of everything and the FOOD omg was phenomenal and the price was awesome! I would highly recommended Orchard Valley for all your party needs!! read more

It's a great course to play but the only issue that I have with this course is the pace of play. I've played here on the weekdays and it has taken me almost 5 hours to play which is ridiculous. The weekends are the same. It's really sad that people who are slow aren't being pushed along. read more

As a resident, I can say that the owners and operators are liars who commit unlawful acts. They will not pay for damage they cause while golfing, despite the signs they post that all golfers, including those who run the place, must pay for any property damage they cause. They've also torn out nearly every tree on the course with no plan to replace them, which leaves every house open to extreme damage from the golfers who play here. This removal also raises our water and utilities costs while lowering our property value. And when you attempt to contact anyone in charge, they're "on vacation." Apparently they vacation for 52 weeks a year, because no one is ever available or calls back. Don't believe the hype they write about themselves, this is among the worst golf courses in Illinois. read more

I love the course and the layout, however the starters and the rangers are rude and unprofessional. Arrived 15 minutes before my tee time and inquired about taking a cart, the starter rudely replied that he was giving carts according to tee times. Point taken but the manner in which he replied was unprofessional. The rangers on the course are unprofessional. My group was approached numerous times about slow play when clearly we were waiting for the group in front of us on every hole. A reminder on customer service would be good for the starters and rangers. On a positive note, the guys in the clubhouse and the lady at the halfway house are always pleasant. In summary, great course but please work on customer service. If no improvements are made, I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

Nice course but staff can be very unprofessional. I played here few times. Once I was held at tee because they over booked, did not had enough carts and we could not start until 45 min late. Next time during a weekday we started on time but by 14 hole we were asked to skip hole to keep pace( even though we finished the 18 holes in 3.5 hrs. Point is they over book and than rush people. And the rangers and starters can be really rude some times. Sad that it is a nice course, reasonably priced park district course but staffed with some very unprofessional. Staff need sensitivity training. read more

A very challenging but fair course. You are given options on every hole that allow you to play it safe, or go for the gusto. If you go for the gusto and come up short, you will be punished! It is really a fun course to play. The new golf course management company is much more professional and user friendly than the old park district staff. The facility has a decent driving range, locker room, and restaurant. It is a full service facility. read more

I was treated very poorly when I golfed here. First thing that happened was they gave my tee time away. And said someone had already checked in under my name... So they rescheduled us to an hour later which lead to the fact that we couldn't get in our 18 holes before dark. We finished 9 and paid for 18. There was zero remorse by employees or compensation for what happened. Also after all of this when we were ready to golf there was no carts available. Really just below average service all together. The course itself isn't to bad but customer service is horrible. read more

I never really take the time to write a review, however this place absolutely deserves it. I recently lost my brother, it was very sudden and unexpected. We needed a place to hold a luncheon and Orchard Valley was so accommodating and handled everything. Sarah, Alex and her staff were so kind and made a very sad situation as wonderful as they could have. There is a private, beautiful room, large enough I would say for 100 people, there is a lovely bar attached and the windows give beautiful views of the golf course. This is a perfect setting for any family or company function and there are no worries of having noise from another party. I cannot say enough, I cannot thank them enough! read more

I subtracted a star due to distance from the city, but for the value, this is a 5 star course. If it was closer to Chicago, it would be the only course that I would play. The holes are interesting, and there is a decent amount of water to add some danger, but it's very playable for golfers of all levels. I'm a 20 handicapper and found it to be perfectly challenging for my skill level. Also, the clubhouse is top-notch, and when I played there was barely another group on the course (thunderstorms were in the forecast). Can't wait to play it again! read more

We had a 10:30 tee time on Saturday, June 8. We got off the tee on-time, but by the second hole, we were backed up. We were having to waiting on each tee box and second shot from the fairway for an excessive amount of time. It was well after 1:00 when we made the turn. We did not encounter a Ranger until the 10th hole, and when I inquired to the back-up, he indicated there were a few groups on the course that were very slow and he even had to "have his boss come out" to talk with these groups about their pace of play. Even though it was a Saturday, a five-plus hour round is unacceptable. Either the course is being overbooked or the staff don't know how to keep player moving at a normal pace, or both. The fact that we only encounter a Ranger once during the round (on the 10th hole) indicates poor course monitoring and management by the professional staff. Went back on 7/1/18 just to see, and had a great outing, tee boxes were still chewed but looks like their moving the starting blocks around to even it out, greens in much better shape and looked reaaly nice; their must have been an outing prior to my last trip here; good round and good condition; a good course overall. read more

We had the advertised fish fry for $14.95 and it was the worst meal ever. There was barely any fish and the fish there was it was from the tail. Could not cut with knife, had to eat with our hands. Orchard Valley should be ashamed to serve this. A waste of money, will never go back for this. read more

A nice golf course, but the management needs improvement. Played here Saturday 6/18/16 using a Groupon. I knew we were in for a miserable day once the starter told us that we should expect a five hour round and I found out why once I got on the course; three foursomes on the same tee box, golfers taking too long to find lost balls, water coolers missing and/or empty, and not a ranger in sight to enforce anything that would even be considered a decent pace of play. We ended up finishing in 5 hours, 20 min. Just because it's a nice course doesn't mean we want to be out there all day waiting to hit. Guess I should've learned my lesson from my earlier round back in April when that took almost five hours. read more
