Today I visited Phillips Farms at my local Greenmarket. This vendor has absolutely beautiful displays of all the fresh fruit vegetables and even Sunflowers and Pumpkins. He was very friendly and professional to do business with today. Everything is so much fresher than in the grocery store. I never knew there were so many different kinds of apples! Our tubing plans nearby fell through, we had already taken the day off, and we had driven for about two hours already. We didn't want the day to go waste so that's when I found Phillips, a pick your own fruit farm. It was a Wednesday afternoon at around 1 pm so the place was pretty empty. I can see the lot getting filled on weekends though, especially since it didn't seem that big. First, you check in. There's a board that tells you what fruit is available for picking for the day, as well as the price per pound. If you pick a fruit that's not in season, you'll have to pay extra. But don't worry - the groves that aren't ready yet have signs by them to remind you. Next, you let them know what you want to pick and you either get a large bag (for the larger fruit) or you can buy a small plastic container (25 cents) or large bucket ($2) for berry picking. There is a sign that warns you that if you pick a bucket full of berries, it will end up costing $50. I think that's a nice reminder because you can definitely go pick-happy in the fields and it will add up very quickly, before you even know it. We decided to go with elderberries, peaches, and plums. I wasn't a fan of the elderberries but I'm glad I tried them since I'd never had them before. The peaches and plums were amazing though. I don't normally like plums because they're too tart, but not these! We spent about $25, which I don't think is terrible. Plus, there is no entrance or parking fee like other farms have so at least you save on that too. They have apples ramping up for the fall now. It's a bit of a drive for us but I had a really nice experience so I may consider making the trek again. read more

**CALL IN ADVANCE to see which fruits they have available before going** We went to Phillips farm on July 4th weekend to pick our own fruits! We usually go to farms in Long Island however we were in the area and decided to give it a try. Phillips farm was huge compared to LI!! They had blueberries, raspberries, yellow beaches, currants, gooseberries, blackberries to pick from. Upon our arrival, we were given a blue wristband to wear throughout the experience. Each plastic container you use to pick with is 25 cents and the bucket is a few dollars. It's a 10$ fine if you pick other fruits that are not listed on the board outside the shop. We picked blueberries and peaches and they were delicious! 1/3 of a container of blueberries and 4 peaches turned out to be about $5. I am definitely looking forward to coming back here with friends/family! read more

Absolutely love this farm!! This is the real deal pick your own with a ton of variety and produce. There is not really a frilly farm store here but honestly who needs it?!? Their farm store is located nearby. Great selection and variety of cramps all summer and fall. I am obsessed with this place!!! read more

I came here on a Saturday morning with a group of 5 people. I called in advance to see what fruit was available for picking. They had blueberries, blackberries, red currants, plums, yellow nectarines, white nectarines, yellow peaches, and donut peaches. The farm was much larger than I expected. The price per pound was pretty reasonable. The blueberries and blackberries were gigantic. It was quite a far walk to the red currants so I probably would skip that next time. The farm was well maintained and there was so much fruit (in terms of variety and quantity) to pick. What's great was that there was no admission fee. The plastic bags were free and the buckets cost $2. There's a $5 minimum purchase which was not that hard since there's so much fruit to buy here. I would definitely come back next year! This was the best and largest farm I've been to in New Jersey. read more

Coming here for years. No more. Ripoff. I never though I'd see the day where I can get four times as much at a grocery store over a farm. Literally. A half pint of blueberries cost 12-15$ and The blueberries were tasteless this year. First time here to pick blueberries. Phillips is a large farm that offered a large variety of u-pick options. Besides blueberries they also offered blackberries, raspberries, currants, peaches and nectarines. A short drive away they operate a farm stand with a large selection of their own produce and some from other parts of the country. The farm stand also had baked and refrigerated items and flowers for your garden. Nice spot that I'd visit again. read more

Came for Apple picking one beautiful Saturday afternoon. The trees were picked over, but still was able to walk away with a fair amount of apples. Decently priced and a fun afternoon. Bonus - got a 1/2 gallon of the cider and it was awesome! read more

We did the pick your own apples! Under 10lbs was 2$ a pound. We also picked up a 1/2 pint of apple cider. The Apple cider is much lighter then typical apple cider which we loved! Not sure price though didn't get a recipiet. You need to go to the farm stand first where we were given directions to the picking and a bag. We picked our apples then drove back to the stand and paid. Tons of fruit,vegetables and homemade butters,salsa, jellies!They did have a window that is open at the farm probably on busier days so you wouldn't have to go back to the farm stand. We went on a Wednesday. Tons and TONS of nats when we were picking. It was so bad it made us hurry up to find apples and leave. Highly recommend bug spray! read more

Pros: Very friendly and laid back. No cover charge, no parking fee, not ever crowded. Lots of land to roam if you like picking apples and enjoying nature. Price is very reasonable and you pay only for what you pick. Cons: Their apples (maybe due to terroir and NJ climate) is not as tasty as upstate NY. Additionally their apple cider is lighter and doesn't taste like the rich, dark apple cider I'm used to. Maybe just a personal preference thing. read more

Beware!!! Pick your own station close early than advertised! No sign or warning!!!!! Arrived 35 minutes before closing, drove 70 miles with 4 month baby to get a little escape - any single spear minute is precious when you have baby and can't go outside much during this difficult time. All we asked is spend 10-15 minutes to pick up 1 bag of fresh apples. We knew the exact location of trees and we didn't ask for much. My family was not allowed to enter. The cashier (very young girl) told us "we closing 20 minutes before 6pm" after we already picked up the bag and step outside - I replied - " it's 5:28 now" and then she sad "we closing at 5:30 of sorry actually even 5:20" she added. I explain the amount of miles we drove and promised her to be before closing - I even don't know why I should explain myself when the farm was open and I'm paying money, but she didn't bother. Only after I asked her name to complain she let us spent 10 minutes and she said "if you will be latter than 5:45 I'll be upset". We returned at the counter at 5:39 paying ridiculous 40$ for 10 apples with such horrible experience!!! She never apologized, didn't even have guts to look us in the eyes. I hope she is happy now and not upset. I also hope that even if we ever decide to come to this farm, which I used to love by the way, my family will never see her again. P.S. there were many people at the filed when we left. Owner should let her go to have fun elsewhere, give job to other honest and hardworking people. Great produce but horrible customer service and extremely overpriced. Shame shame shame! read more

This is by far the best place to go for pick your own! We have a special needs son who is in a wheelchair. He doesn't get to pick a lot of things due to the bumpy land. However this farm went out of the way to make sure he could pick this year. After stopping at the stand, Timothy called his boss and we were able to get him close enough that he could fill a bag up by himself. We also went and pick raspberries. We were able to drive up to them so he could pick a few. Timothy was very friendly and pleasant. This will be our spot from now on! The apples we pick were very big and were delicious. This place is fantastic! Today we picked blackberries, raspberries, and peaches. The raspberries were a little more picked over, but we still managed to nearly full a bucket, ~11#. Blackberries on the other hand... JACK POT! This was the perfect weekend to be out there, as they were in perfect condition for picking! Peaches as well! Prices are reasonable, and the staff was courteous and helpful. Plenty of free parking and no fee to enter into the fields. I recommend going first thing in the morning when it is a little cooler, otherwise, the hotter temps may not make it as enjoyable for some. read more

It was very hot even early in the morning when we went yesterday (Saturday). Lots of raspberries and peaches which were both very good, plenty of blackberries but they were sour, most apples weren't ready yet but we got a few and they were also VG. Good place for picking, lots of plants... Does not have activities for the children. You only pay for what you pick, there is no entrance fee, that's a plus! The down side is that they have separate locations for different fruits. Nice place to go. read more

This is our second year coming here. Last year we came here for apple picking and we knew we had to come back again this year for it. It's a beautiful farm with gorgeous views. They have a great variety of apples to choose from as well. This year, we also decided to pick raspberries. Our 20 month old seemed to enjoy the raspberry picking more so than the apples. The raspberries are so good! There is no entrance fee and you just pay for what you pick. We had 8 apples, nearly 1/2 a bucket of raspberries, plus a water and apple cider and it was only $15. It isn't crowded, the staff is friendly, and the quality is great. We will definitely be back next year! read more

They have very good products but me being in Brooklyn, I can't 'catch' them at the Union Square Market or at Grand Army Plaza Market. They are hardly there. They are on the lists but they don't show up. A real disappointment. read more

So I go Phillips farm in August and bring my people friendly dog and did not have a problem. We had the best day and now I go in October where the rudest lady gives a dirty look and in the most attitude voice asks if she's a service dog. I didn't lie and said no because we've never had a problem before. So now after driving an hour away with my dog I can say that I will never be back to Phillips farm. They really should get on the same page about policies because no where in the farm does it say no pets read more
