Went here on Sunday, day before New Year's Eve, and wanted to try out this philly cheesesteak place. I've tried Busters, Jay's, and The Cheesesteak Shop and all 3 are pretty standard. Phillies is a small shop and I was excited to try out the cheesesteak here. Ordered: Cheeseteak (steak) with Wiz, onions, hot and sweet peppers Side of Fries Bowl of Chili Chicken Strips (5) When we got the food, everything looked good, except that they gave me chili cheese fries instead of what I ordered. When I asked if they could check the order again, they stated that I ordered chiili cheese fries. That's fine and I didn't complain and it made me realize that the chef was cooking a philly cheesesteak in the back and the noise of the spatula banging on the cooktop probably made it hard for the cashier to here anything. The cheesesteak was not bad and pretty standard. When I ate the chili cheese fries though, the chili had a sour taste to it. At first, I thought it might have been that the place uses Crystal hot sauce to season their chili, but as I ate more of the chili cheese fries, it just got really sour. I don't usually complain and if I don't like something, I just won't come back. I felt that I needed to write this to warn others to watch out and try out the food first before leaving or eating more. The end result, 2 - 3 hours later, my wife and I have stomach pains and threw up the entire day. We threw up the next day also. Phillies is probably one of the closest joint for me in Daly City to get a Philly cheesesteak sando, and Phillies does not disappoint. My favorite is the "Rocky Balboa". And even during the hard time we are all in, especially restaurants, Phillies did not skimp on anything. I asked for extra meat for my sando, and holy sh**, this thing is about 2 pounds of meat! And first on the tour is Phillies. I seen a lot of positive feedback about this joint so I had to go see what it was really about. I ordered "The Works, Cheesesteak" featuring Cheese Wiz A happy medium on portion size here. Its not overloaded with meat and all that extra other stuff. Some cheesesteak places I've been too think that if you just throw a pile of meat on the plate, that its a good well done. But thats not always the case. The meat has good flavor, I feel like the meat is more on the premium end. Maybe I'll order more grilled onions next time, but thats just my preference. The cheese wiz is a must! My buddy ordered with provolone and it was just okay. If you wanna get that authentic cheesesteak taste, go with the Wiz! Any other cheese, you'll just be searching for it in the meat. On the side we also order garlic fries for $3.95 and tots for $2.95. Solid garlic fries, even though at first sight I was thinking it was gonna suck because of the lack garlic thrown on top. Why does this place only have 61 reviews? This place is located right on Geneva and Mission. Parking is a little rough and there are few seatings and the restroom is small... like really small! But soap and a sensor-towel mechanism offset everything. Customer service was great. I ordered the mushroom Philly w/ provolone and Cheez Whiz and though my Philly was awesomely delicious, I think it wasn't cheesy enough! This place is just down the street from my house. My boyfriend and I have been here twice now - both were stellar experiences! We've been served by the owner, and by one of his staff, Ruben. They both are locals, such nice guys, and they make a damn good Philly. I prefer my fries extra crispy and both times the have accommodated my request perfectly! Great staff, great food. Great beer selection. This place is delicious but, caution, it definitely adds up quickly. The sandwiches are between 10-14$ each, fries are 3$, and then the beers are another 5-6$. But i wasn't happy about the service when getting the food. Who waits 15 - 20 minutes for a to go food!! The cooker had a big grill to cook multiple sandwiches (about 6 or more sandwiches) but the cooker only cook one order per person at a time!! I ordered this on Postmates on a whim after watching "Creed" and seeing the main characters chow down on chicken cheesesteaks...and I was NOT disappointed. My sandwich was SO good, if not a bit overly cheesy...but I asked for Cheez Wiz AND provolone, so that's probably overkill. The bread is excellent and you get tons of meat - very filling. I love that you can customize your toppings with different peppers. I went with hot and sweet, and my sandwich was super flavorful. Got the rocky balboa and it came with normal amount of meat and cheese not extra. Also didn't throw in the bacon. The Chilli cheese onion. When I told the owner he had a attitude (probly cause someone had returned a sub that was wrong) and said I couldn't see them cause they were under the Chilli. That was not true. If you're from Philadelphia, this place is worth a visit. There are only a handful of places in SF which have authentic cheesesteaks, and this place is one of them. What makes them authentic? Amoroso's rolls and Cheez Whiz. I ordered mine "Whiz wit", which to me has always meant Cheez Whiz and onions. The cook asked if I wanted peppers, which made me wonder if "wit" in some circles means both onions and peppers. The neighborhood is not great. Note to the owners: your soda selection is excellent. Consider stocking sodas from Philadelphia such as Hires Root Beer, Frank's Black Cherry Wishniak, Hank's, and a birch beer. Please also consider carrying Tastykakes. I finally stopped by at this relatively new cheesesteak shop near my neighborhood on Geneva Avenue near Mission Street. They've been open about three months, and they seem to be doing well business-wise. The menu is pretty simple with mostly Phillie-type sandwiches and a few sides. They offer steak or chicken "wit or wit'out onions" and a veggie one cooked on a separate veggie-only grill. Just like my favorite cheesesteak place in the Mission Phillies imports Amoroso rolls directly from Philadelphia. At Phillies though, the rolls are toasted on the grill so they have a very nice outer crunch to it. I ordered a Steak Cheesesteak wit onions, cherry peppers and Provolone. You can have authentic Kraft Whiz or American cheese as well. One of my pet peeves is cheesesteak shops that apply the cheese onto the roll instead of onto the meat. They do that here too. While it doesn't alter the taste of the sandwich it does make it a bit messier to eat. Sandwiches are cooked to order so expect a bit of a wait. I ordered a side of Fries and a fountain soda as well. While I waited I noticed the Peanut Chews candy bars sitting on the counter.
