The staff are really really nice and they have a nice selection of things to choose from. I've been there a few times and I wanted to see how they stacked up compared to a lot of the other places in South Philadelphia. Maybe if I didn't know any better, this place would receive more stars, but we're looking at is pretty average stuff here. Shaved ribeye isn't too thick and certainly not chopped. Therefore, NO MELT! Fail! Now maybe if the meat had a flavor that could stand-out on its own, we could allow this to pass, but this is only a step or two above boxed frozen crap from the supermarket. Not enough salt and just an average meaty taste. Some of the onions were cooked perfectly while some were nearly raw. The difference in textures was distracting and raw onion is not as good as cooked. Mayo was available in a self-serve condiment pump can and was absolutely disgusting. DO NOT use this mayo, it will ruin anything it touches. Free hot peppers always recommended. There are two windows for ordering, and you need to know which one to go to to order steaks or side orders. Luckily, this rookie rolled up to the correct window by accident, and was able to figure out the process by watching others make mistakes and then get corrected by all the pros who were there waiting for their steaks and fried foods near their respective windows. I ordered through Uber eats on a Tuesday evening. The food came quickly and the order was correct. I waited about 30 minutes. The French fries were great! Everything anyone could ask for concerning French fries. They were fresh, crispy, big and hot. The cheesesteak however, was the worst cheesesteak I've ever had in Philly. I don't like that they don't chop up the steak or trim the fat. Also, the meat was a little stingy. I couldn't even taste the American cheese. I took about 4 bites and threw the rest away. The roll was the best part. Total for cheesesteak and cheese fries=$17.47. Not including tip or the delivery fee. Learn from a pro: don't order thru Uber eats or grubhub because they will charge you more than Philip's delivery fee, which is $1.50. Call them to order delivery. My son and I went there today for roast pork sandwiches because John's Roast Pork was crowded. My son and I both agreed it was the worst. It had no taste and I mean literary no taste. Growing up on Philly cheesesteaks, I would give Philip's a solid 3 for cheesesteaks. They have parking, friendly staff, and are fast and efficient. RJ thought it was great, but he's from NY. The steak is too thick and chewy, and a little skimpy, and the whiz isn't my favorite on a cheesesteak.. It was still tasty though, However, both the cheese fries and the inside out pizza were banging, and bumps this up to a solid 4. The fries were fresh, hot and crispy, and a large portion smothered in the whiz, which I'm fine with for fries. We had to take the inside out pizza home but even heated up it was fantastic. They use fresh Ambrosio Rolls, high end Rib-Eyes, and a special frying oil only the Original, the guy across the street, and the copycat guy in the Northeast was able to find out uses. Coming into my trip to Philip's, I expected a competent thinly sliced rib-eye steak, but certainly did not see the shop sneaking into my top five Philly cheesesteaks of all time. I brought three of my friends to Philip's this evening and we were all shocked. This is one of the best steaks in Philly and there's simply no debate about it. I'm a big sucker for the thinly sliced steak, and Philip's holds their own with a traditional, but everlasting taste. The roll competes with Tony Luke's as one of the city's best, and the sliced rib-eye quenches that desire on the ride over for a quality cheesesteak, and by the time you finish, you want to go back and order another. If I had to criticize Philip's in the slightest, I wish there was a little more meat to complement the bread, however, the condiments, including the grilled onions, added a sweet juicy touch that enhanced the flavor of meat right to the tastebuds. I'll say Philip's is one step ahead of Jim's and Joe's for me because of it's classic touch. So I came here after hearing a lot of hype about the Cheesesteaks and I have to say- I wasn't really impressed. I came here with someone who is from the area and he always talked about how people come from all over to come here. We pulled up in front of the place around 10:30 pm which on a Friday night was pretty popular. When we ordered our food, it probably came out around 10 mins later which was fairly quick. I ordered my Cheesesteak with provolone and onions which was ok; I felt as though the steak itself wasn't very well cooked and the meat was pretty thin. However, my friend loves the steaks here for that very same reason @thin meat. As far as the place itself- it is a takeout restaurant in which there are open "picnic style" tables outside. There is an open area where you order food in which you can stand at a counter and also eat your food. The restaurant is on a pretty busy street- I didn't notice any parking garages around so it would be street parking. Although I wasn't as impressed with the steak- the service was great and so were the people so I would totally give it another try. read more

Unfortunately I didn't get a photo because it was late and I had just landed at the airport and just wanted to get some food in my system before driving 2 hours. This steak is good. I've had much better in Philly, but i've also had much worse. This is middle of the road for me but at the time of night I got it and it's fairly close location to the airport it was perfect. Stopped at this steak place after seeing a news piece that highlighted what a great sandwhich they had. I was supremely disappointed. I ordered the Classic with roasted peppers tomatoes and oregano etc. While the bun was fresh and the sandwich was warm; the crux of the cheesesteak is the meat. My sandwich was loaded with Gristle. Now maybe a random bite of fat or gristle would be acceptable. However this Paricular sandwich was riddled throughput with tough, rubbery, indigestible Gristle. From my very first bite. i slugged through the entire meal hoping the rest of it would be gristle-free. However that was not the case. Whoever assembled this sandwich surely had to know how much bad/inedible connective tissue was in there. $15 wasted. read more
