Pros. They do have a nice selection of plants,and the workers that installed our tree were great. Cons Service is poor. We picked out a large Japanese Maple for $499 plus the same for installing and 2 other plants we would plant ourselves. After waiting for a few weeks with no communication, we went back to find out about planting. We saw the tree we had put our name on was gone. The other 2 were still there. We were going on vacation at the end of May (tree still not delivered) and called and told them to wait until we get back now. Called when we got back to schedule and mentioned we didn't see our tree when we were there. I'm assuming they sold it to someone else. He showed a pic on the phone of another tree he could plant. He said it was the same. We said ok and they came the next morning. The tree they brought was at least 2-3 feet shorter than the one we picked. The root ball was about 1/3 of the one we picked. After talking to the owner and him arguing about the tree, he offered $100 off the price. I was just so pissed off, I just had them plant the new tree just to stop dealing with them. We got this tree to shield our pool from the 2 houses next door that were for sale since we weren't sure how nice they would be. It will be a few f*****g years till it grows to a decent height. read more

I stopped in after driving by this location so many times. I was not disappointed. There is such a wonderful selection of trees, bushes, flowers, annuals, perennials, etc. I was able to select the most beautiful hanging baskets that had such a unique combination of flowers The owner was very knowledgeable and willing to offer his expertise in helping me select just the right plants for our landscaping. The staff was quick to offer to carry any of my items from the greenhouse to the vehicle without me even asking. I would definitely stop back in when our next landscaping or gift needs arise. read more

This is my first year with a garden and I was determined to shop local. I agree with other comments that pricing and labels leave much to be desired but overall I enjoyed my few runs to Phelps for supplies as I began my garden journey. Unfortunately, on my most recent visit I noticed the political stickers plastered in the cashier office and honestly it left a bad taste in my mouth. I don't care what or who you support but customers shouldn't have your politics shoved down their throats. I feel this way for ANY business and/or political side. No longer shopping there, I'll find another local place where politics are left at home to buy my supplies. read more

I wanted top soil for my raised beds and they sold me clay. After nothing would grew in it, I had to dig it out and get top soil from Park West. When I went back to tell them, the guy was rude and said it wasn't the soil why the plants wouldn't grow. I have been gardening for 40 years. Yes, it was the clay they sold me why the plants wouldn't grow. I will never buy anything again from these shysters. read more

I decided I wanted to plant some flowers for the first time EVER so I went to Phelps since it's in my neighborhood. I really had no idea what I was doing or looking for, only just that I needed flowers that deer wouldn't eat. I explained what I needed and that it was my first time buying and planting flowers to the young woman at the register. She told me everything in the first two greenhouses was half off. I would have loved her to offer to help me choose some flowers, but I was kind of on my own! I spent a good amount of time browsing. Since it's the middle of the season, some of the plants and flowers were a bit run-down looking, but that's ok. They didn't need to be perfect for my first go-round. Once I had finally chosen some flowers, I asked the same employee for help finding potting soil. She didn't really know how much I should purchase, and I ended up buying twice as much as I needed. Overall, I had an ok experience here. I would have loved some more assistance from the employees, but I guess I figured it out. It's been 5 days and the flowers aren't dead yet, so I guess I am doing an ok job! read more

Unfortunately the rating system requires me to give at least 1 star. If I could give no stars, that would be my review. Buyer beware, they do not warranty any of there products, unless they install them. No where did it say this when I purchased my shrubs. ( Owner says there is a sign, sure they out one in after the harsh winter) The owner told me that the shrubs didn't root due to the harsh winter. But it only happened to 2 out of the 4 I purchased from them. His solution for me, he would give me 50% off new shrubs. But why would anyone take that offer with now knowing they won't warranty those ones either. Wont recommend Phelps to anyone looking for shrubs, trees, or landscaping in the future Even lowes and Home Depot warranty theirs for a year. read more

I have been going to Phelps Nursery for the last 5 years for all my plants, etc. I have found the selection to be one of the best around and the quality of the products are far more superior at Phelps than the local nurseries I have used in the past. Not only do you have the best selection to choose from his prices are affordable and believe me when I say there is something there for everybody thats how big his selection is. I have also noticed this year his pottery selection and statues are incredible. I have purchased many of his fountains for landscaping yards. One thing i have witnessed is Bennett Phelps can always be seen outside working right alongside his staff and helping customers with their questions and selection of plants. I have found Ben to be very helpful to me and even though he is a very busy man he always finds a few minutes to help me and he does this with a smile. I have used Phelps Nursery for deliveries of both mulch and products and his drivers are the best. They are always on time and extremely helpful with my deliveries. I use Phelps Nursery for all my landscaping products and believe me when I say I could spend all day there admiring his plants. This is the only nursery I now use for everything. read more

Hardly anything is clearly labeled, or priced. If you ask three different people, you will get three different prices. When you do get a price, it's much higher than what you would pay anywhere else. Also worth mentioning, I ordered some lime stone from them and had it delivered. They damaged my retaining wall and never bothered to contact me to have it repaired. read more

Selection and prices are great. The customer service is delivery experience not so much. I had 2 orders of rock and mulch today. They were scheduled for 12noon and 1pm. It is now almost 6pm and I am still waiting. I've called multiple times and they keep telling me they are on the way, or I'm next, or they are loading the truck now. I understand deliveries can run late for a number of reasons, but almost 6 hours late is completely unacceptable. That's assuming your even gonna show at this rate. Again I love the selection and price and If I had a pickup I would haul it all myself and never have a problem. Depending on their deliver cost me an entire of sitting around and waiting while getting nothing done. I'm glad I'm not a contractor with a hired crew I'm paying to sit around! read more

Very well-stocked nursery. Large selection of healthy looking plants. Only two downsides: parking lot was very busy with large trucks dropping off products and therefore staff was busy directing trucks rather than helping customers. I was able to flag down a very nice, professional, knowledgeable young woman who helped me select a beautiful, multi-trunked Fringe tree. The prices were competitive, too. I paid $69.95 for my fringe tree; similar one at local nurseries $79.99 and $119.99. read more

Terrible terrible terrible. DO NOT buy trees from this place. We spent over $250.00 on a tree for our front yard and we did everything on our part as far as planting it right away and everything well it looked like it wasn't going to make it. My husband called and emailed the nursery and got no response. So he went there and the guy who owns it said he would give us another tree, my husband came home and dug out the old one so he could re plant the new one that he said had leaves and were all looking good, well he went to get a new one and it looked just as bad as the one we bought 2 mos ago. My husband has asked for him money back and he said himself that he doesn't warranty/guarantee anything he grows. Well that's terrible to tell people that!!! Lowes, Home Depot and all other nurseries I have dealt with always warranty their plants for atleast a year. For as much as we paid for our tree we should of been reimbursed. Terrible business as far as that goes. Would not recommend anyone buy from this place. Save your money and time and go to a nursery that is proud to stand by what they grow. read more
