Phebie's yarn shop is a true blessing to the community. My 8-year old has been asking to learn knitting but most classes cater to teenagers or adults, luckily Yelp directed me to Phebie's shop. We were invited to take a trial class today, it turned out marvelously as my little one was able to get individual attention and step-by-step guidance from Phebie. She can't stop talking about what she learnt on the ride home and of course she can't wait to come back. Phebie is a natural teacher in sharing her love for knitting. The shop is a beautiful space showcasing rare talents for an art form that is sadly often overlooked by mass produced quick fashion of the season. The yard shop is within the Claremont packing house, acai bowls, coffee, lunch, bookstore are all within the building with free parking next door to boot, it is a great place to spend a day. read more

I visited Phebie's looking for a specific brand of yarn. She did not carry it, but had many beautiful yarns. A delightful yarn shop located on the second floor of the Packing House in Claremont. I've been coming to Phebie's for about five years and couldn't be happier. Her selection is great, and she will custom order if you want a different color or need more than is in stock. She also has a nice selection of vintage buttons and beads to finish your projects. She's a great teacher - very patient and gives easy to understand and apply instruction. She offers classes on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings and by appointment for more elaborate projects - I've taken advantage of both options and been very pleased with both my finished projects and the skills mastered. Best part? Being located in the Packing House you can treat yourself to a fabulous lunch or ice cream or glass of wine as a reward! There are several great restaurants in the building! read more

I came across Phebie's Needle Art while searching for a local place to learn to knit or crochet. What an awesome find! When I walked in, I was greeted by Phebie herself; she was extremely helpful in educating me on the difference between knitting and crocheting. She recommended knitting needles and yarn that would be best for a beginner and told me about the classes they offer. I've been going to the classes for a few weeks and have already learned so much. Having Phebie there to teach me the proper techniques and provide guidance is wonderful. The small weekly group I'm in is wonderful, many of the ladies have been knitting for years and are also willing to assist the newbies like me. If you're new to needle art, I highly recommend Phebie's for your supplies and classes - there's something about hands on that youtube can't replace. However, from what I could see through the windows, really cute shop with quite a variety. Phebie is a character--she has definite Opinions(!) about anyone knitting with cheaper yarn, but as a beginner, I'm just not willing to spend a ton on yarn until my skills improve. Phebie does offer classes which work out to be $10/hour, or $20/class, which focus on the skills in knitting or crochet that you'd like to build. I have been to this location, bought yarn and even rec. help from the owner when i have needed help with a project. Never has she charged me, so when I went back to purchase yarn and ask for help she then informed me she would be charging me $10.00 for 15min . I was very disappointed and angry and myself for paying those ten dollars I felt I had been taken for an idiot . When in the past I have taken classes and it has rained and nobody had called me to cancel class and here I am driving an half hr away, I still came back and gave her my business. I have since looked into Redlands Yarn company they don't charge for help and Colors a couple blocks away they don't charge either, I know every store is different, and they all operate different, but your customers is also what keeps you going as a business. read more

I like paying a visit to Phebie's Needle Art shop which is located uniquely upstairs in the historical Packing House of Claremont, an excellent location. The shop is very small and has lots of character. I love the old time kitchen table right there in the front of the store. It makes it so homey and cozy. The front part of the store is the yarn shop, and the beads are in the back. They are well stocked and offer inexpensive classes for knitting and beading. Phebie is normally working there and she is a real sweetheart. She is very informative and is always willing to answer any question and gives excellent tips. Every time I have been there she has offered to roll up the back curtains to let the sunshine in so I can see the color of the beads. That's attentive customer service! If you need something unique and different, this is the place to come. I haven't been disappointed. There wasn't much new inventory stocked since last time I went, except for just one item. However, I didn't mind because I liked what I bought so much last visit, I was willing to buy the exact beads all over again for a second time, and I bought that one new item too. Phebie also has a good selection of quality Swarovski crystals for a fraction of the price I've seen elsewhere. The only downside to the shopping experience is the lack of room in the place and more often than not, it's a little hot and stuffy in there. I'd like to spend more time but I usually cut my shopping short for this reason. Support the small shops and pay Phebie a visit! read more

Also their hours are a bit off from what is listed on yelp and I have gone only to find they're closed when it says they're supposed to be open. First impressions mean a great deal. I went in at noon on a Saturday. I wasn't greeted with a "Hello" or "How are you doing?". Instead, my ears were met with, "We're closed!!!"
