So this place is awesome...best place to get pho outside of the Sydney CBD (pho in the CBD is meh) besides Pho Tau Bay in Cabramatta. Between 4 of us we had two large bowls of pho, carmelised pork belly, lemongrass beef, and fried eggplant. Everything is high quality and affordable. The coconut juice is awesome, as was the pork belly, lemongrass beef, and fried eggplant...each dish was exploding with flavour with no misses here and plentiful portions as well. Don't order a large bowl of pho unless you have a big appetite...made that mistake because we were used to large sizes not being so large here in Australia, but DAYAM this bowl is LARGE. You could share a large bowl with 2 people if you both aren't exceptionally hungry and not order anything else. We had plenty of leftovers because we misjudged the portion sizes. As a Vietnamese, I have to say that Pho here is very authentic, delicious and tasty. I really like soup of the Pho. The sweetness comes from beef bone and other herbs. I normally put a lot of hoisin sauce into Pho at other places but I don't do it here because I want to taste their delicious soup. Rice paper roll with pork skin is also good. Very crunchy, fresher and taste better than at Pho Gia Hoi. Salad with prawn is also OK. But capsicum doesn't belong to this kind of salad and it never exists in this salad in Vietnam. read more

It's the best pho in sydney. I drive 45 minutes each way to get here, it's worth it. The broth is perfect, just the right blend of herbs and sweetness. I get the combination pho (no brisket). Street parking can be tough, but there is a public parking lot on the roof of the gym/fruit shop. read more

A friend that lives in Marrickville mentioned years ago that this was arguably the best pho place in Sydney. Marrickville? Really? No way! I recently got to try it out but under the new pretence that it actually wasn't as good as back in the day. Upon arrival we were shown to a table but then waited probably 5mins (although it felt more like 10) for someone to give us a menu. I was looking aimlessly around the restaurant for a ghetto sign board like in other vietnamese places but none were to be found as this is quite a classy establishment with wooden chairs and tables. The setting was all very nice but waiting for a menu when the restaurant was only 1/4 full was really weird. I was thinking am I just supposed to know what to order without seeing a menu? or do I need to ask for a menu? confused. Anyway we ordered a pho dac biet and bun bo hue to share. So we'll start with the pho. Really disappointing. The soup came out maybe just a big warmer than luke warm and it got cold really fast on a cold wet Sydney afternoon. The bun bo hue while hot was also really hot in the spicy sense. Now I can hold my spice but this definitely was reaching my limits so wasn't as enjoyable as it could've been if it were just a tad less spicy. So if you're someone that can't really handle your spice this is definitely not the dish to order. Well at least I'd satisfied my curiosity about this place. I love cheap and cheerful places where you can get consistently good food, the service is fast and it doesn't break the bank. In Marrickville there's choices-a-plenty especially for Pho places. We've been trying out a few and today we decided to go to PHD on Illawarra road. At 3pm, there were still a fair few diners but we still got a table easily. Dr Skorpio had the Pho Dac Biet - I think this translates to "special" pho - sorry folks he is the pho connoisseur not me. I believe at most places this means you get a few different types of beef cuts in the soup. I tasted some of his soup and the broth was nice and flavoursome and came with a good amount of herbs on the side. One of the better versions outside Cabramatta. I on the other hand only eat Pho when I am hungover or sick or it is cold outside. So I opted for the crispy chicken with tomato rice. YUM! I got a chicken maryland that was mostly boneless. The chicken was lovely and crispy without being too dry. The rice also had some great flavours with a tiny hint of spice. I think the rice was stir fried with some onions and other ingredients which made it nice and fresh vs some other versions I've had where it looks like the rice was mixed with some red sauce. I would definitely come back (again and again) for that chicken dish. read more

Don't get the hype about this place at all. Had quite high hopes because of all the positive reviews but this was really a disappointing meal. All the soup dishes turned out salty and full of MSG and the crab noodle broth (shown in picture) was full of oil and tasted like it came from a maggi noodle packet. Positive notes are the beef slices are really fresh and tender, fried spring roll was pretty good too. Overall would not recommend this to anybody to come more than once. read more

What can i say this is one of the best Pho places around. Clear salty spicy sweet broth and thinly sliced raw beef thats fresh and tender. Best entree has to be steamed wontons with pork so tasty with sweet tangy sauce. Great fried rice lots of flavour. Yummy soda chahn and nice fishcakes. Very nice decor and style of serving. We initially came in to get our pho fix, and to see if Sydney pho would be comparable to other places in the world, choosing PHD because of how many people were already eating there at 4:45pm. We took our seats, and the gruff "server" (we think he's actually the owner) hands us menus, quickly asking if we knew what we wanted. Being pho-literate and without looking at the menu (maybe this was our problem), I ordered what I normally ordered: Pho Tai Chin Gan Bo Vien (pho with rare beef, cooked brisket, tendon, and beef balls). The owner quickly retorted that they don't serve tendon, and no one else does either. Being caught off guard, we ask about why it's not served, and he goes on this huge tirade about all sorts of things. Talk about a turnoff... we ask for a few minutes to decide, and he turns is attention to the next victims/patrons. We looked at each other, got up, and left. The best pho in Sydney! Tried different phos including pho An, those in Cabramatta, Hurstville, Haymarket, Chatswood etc etc.. This is by far the best pho I've tried in Sydney. Noodles are not too thin or soft which is usually the case with a lot of other places and the soup base isn't too sour which I found to be the case with An. Love it! read more

Great pho, spring rolls and tomato pork chop rice! Sweet beef pho soup with good depth of flavour! Pretty fast service too!

An enticing broth which is good enough to warrant several return visits. You can easily spot Pho PHD amongst the string of Vietnamese restaurants on Illawarra road due to the queue on the footpath. Don't expect flashy service and bring your own wine if you feel the need although for me the beauty of this place is as a quick dinner option. read more

Great food in general but I particularly recommend the duck soup with egg noodles and shiitake mushrooms - totally fab! Worth noting that one portion of soup could feed at least two people. read more
