The food was great here. Services is right at the counter and you can sit wherever you want. It's very casual not fancy quick bite to eat place. Quite low key and clean.

We all loved hearing the news that Phat Burrito is coming back and let me tell you, I am so happy it's back! The food is just still sooooo good! The burrito is huge (phat), the salsas were delicious, Hot is actually Hot! And that empanada with the green sauce was everything! I also tried the quesadilla and they were just as good. It's self service but you can also order through a QR code, there is a full bar and drinks in cans in a fridge. The outside patio is a nice add and can't wait to see out there on a warm day! All in all, I am happy the place is back and kept some of his original menu items!

Phat is back!!! So full disclosure: I used to live in the building next to Phat Burrito (before it turned into Flowerchild) so I was a regular. I do miss the charm of "Charlotte past" since PB was a trailblazer in the Southend area. This return to "lower Southend" was very welcome to me and, though I miss the bars on the window, I'm glad they are making their space their own. The staff is super friendly. If you dine in, you are given a table number that you prop up on the paper towel holder at the table and the food is brought to you when it is ready. This new location has some nice booths and even outdoor seating. With all the new apartment buildings coming online, I'm sure parking is going to be a thing, but for now, there's plenty of street parking on Tryclan Drive and Dewitt Ln. I'm usually a burrito guy but decided on a salad for this particular visit. The salad was ginormous and I ended up taking it home for another meal later in the evening. Staff buses the tables (which I felt self conscious about becuase I usually like to clear my own table). There's also a station to grab silverware and a variety of hot sauces to use on your meal. I did end up returning the hot sauce to the hot sauce station in an effort to help out the table bussing :) Aside from the tables in the dining area, there is a bar area, full bar and TVs to watch various sporting events. Art on the wall is cool, I recognized homage to the old location in some of the art hanging along the dining room walls.

What a great spot! As people have noted, "we missed the original phat burrito" - BUT this "new one" is just as good! Stuffed make-your-own burrito style with a few other select options such as salads and quesadillas, Phat Burrito is in an excellent location close to other breweries, restaurants and super-walkable light rail. If you're in the mood for some no-frills Mexican or a burrito, I'd recommend giving PB a try. Staff was friendly and nice, prices weren't too bad. Next time I'm in the area, I'll go back but try something new.

The size of my "Phat" burrito was embarrassing. It's a 15 dollar burrito and hardly the size of my palm. The quality here is usually decent, but their portions are incredibly inconsistent.

Burritos are getting a little sad here huh?

About half the size they usually are .... Complete opposite of phat .......................................................

I finally got around to trying Phat Burrito and it was just okay to me. My sisters have been raving about this place since they've opened. The customer service is great! (Like I literally thought one employee was the owner how above and beyond he goes.) It wasn't really crowded during lunch time on a Sunday and has a decent amount of indoor and outdoor seating. I ordered the chicken burrito and hubby ordered the steak burrito. It actually comes with four toppings not two. I asked for queso, sour cream rice and pico inside of mine. Unfortunately, about half way through I realized the queso was forgotten. The chips and guacamole were good. I ended up opening it and adding guacamole inside because it just didn't have enough flavor for me. The salsa is more smoky than spicy. Hubby said mine would have been better if the queso was on it.... Since queso and guacamole are premium toppings, If I go back I'll get queso and chips on the side and add the guacamole to my burrito.

I genuinely love this place and love that it's back! It's on my way to my daughters school so I stop here to treat myself. 5pm is a great time to come because everyone is here for lunch. The food never fails. I always get a burrito but last time I got birria and BABY!!!! It blew my mind. You can go wrong here. They have beer, wine, and tequila. I can't wait for a night to just hang out here.

Came to Phat Burrito today as it was suggested to me by a friend. I love Mexican food so I was eager to try this place. We were served by Rashad who kindly gave us suggestions. After looking at the menu, I decided to get the chicken salad which came out to about $14. There's lettuce, pico de gallo, brand, rice, corn, cheese and cucumbers. It was so much food and very delicious. I went on a Sunday afternoon and there was a decent amount of people eating indoors and outdoors. It's in a great location with other places to eat and a Pilates studio next door. I will certainly be back to try other menu items!

BBQ Chicken PHAT Quesadillas with grilled bell peppers and jalapeños and Shrimp & Crab Empanada
    Kenneth H.

First time trying Phat Burrito and I must say I am very pleased! I ordered the BBQ Chicken PHAT Quesadillas with grilled bell peppers and jalapeños and the Shrimp & Crab Empanada. They were so yummy! The sauce that came with the Shrimp & Crab Empanada stole the show, it's so tasty! But I must say this, I don't eat beef or pork and there was a piece of beef found in the quesadillas. So hopefully they do better with controlling that. I ordered to go, and they have a returning customer in me, (as long as I don't have the same issue again)

I wish I could give a higher rating, or if I could do a 2.5 star rating I would, but I can't stretch it to 3 stars here. Definitely a cool spot with plentiful seating indoors and outdoors, in a fun location with growing business, apartments and popularity. The staff members were very nice as well. However, it comes down to the food, and it just didn't hit any spot. I forgot to take a picture of the burrito. The guy said 12" but it was really 6" (I guess unfolded was 12"?). They also forgot 2 side sauces and jalapeños on the side, and instead had the jalapeños chopped up inside the burrito. Also got a chicken quesadilla, but both the burrito and quesadilla were just barely "eh". Not that I'm trying to dissuade anyone from supporting this business, just honestly reviewing that for me personally there's really no reason for me to eat here again.

Phat Burrito has reopened after years of the original Southend location closing. The space is great here - tons of seating inside and outside. The team I interacted with was friendly and there were no errors with my food order.

I'd recommend the sampler plate with the Jalapeño Cheddar Bratwurst as one choice ( you get three) and Jumbo Pretzel with Cooper Bier cheese & Düsseldorf mustard. The sides, such as their German potato salad, red cabbage and sauerkraut are very good. In addition theres a good selection of sandwiches, burgers, salads to choose from. The outside venue is amazing with ample outside seating featuring a fire pit, corn hole ( collect bags at the bar), children's playground and a water station for pets. Overall a great place to grab a beer and enjoy some authentic German style food at reasonable pricing. In addition OMB features private rooms for special events. One note parking could be problematic when it gets busy on weekends or special occasions but if you're willing to walk you'll find parking somewhere .

A few years ago, my husband and I watched a beer documentary that followed beer professionals pursuing their Master Cicerone Certification (basically a PhD in beer), and Sugar Creek's owner was one of the people featured. So it felt pretty cool to finally visit the brewery in person and try the beer after seeing his story on screen. When we arrived, it was sprinkling outside, so we decided to duck in and grab a beer while waiting for the rain to pass. Because of the block party setup, beers were served in plastic cups, totally understandable since people were free to roam outside with drinks. My husband went for the Big O IPA, which Sugar Creek is known for, and I ordered the Big O Hazy IPA. Both beers were excellent, bright, flavorful, and super drinkable. I can definitely see why this beer has put the brewery on the map. The vibe of the place was great, inviting from the outside in, with cool decor that felt personal and unique to Sugar Creek. There was a bit of a line to order at the bar, but nothing too bad. Staff were friendly, and the space had a nice energy without feeling chaotic. We didn't eat while we were there (already had a meal beforehand), but we saw other tables getting charcuterie boards and gyros, and they looked so good, definitely something we'll try on our next visit. Overall, we had a great first experience. They could not have been more attentive and accommodating. The beer is S-tier good. Both the selections brewed on site and the ones imported from Hanover. They had 3 different Bocks on. I love German styles, but malty is my wheelhouse and they had it more than covered. The Eisbock and Weizenbock were particularly amazing, but I drank around the board and didn't find a stinker. The food, which was largely trad Deustch dishes, was equally fantastic. They have few American dishes for less daring palates. On the same weekend, i hit nearly every other brewery in Loso and Gastonia. Gilde wins by a large margin in terms of beer and food quality. The next best classic Euro themed brewery in NC is Lesser Known in Greensboro. If you like German and Czech styles, these 2 have you covered. I plan to return to Gilde at the end of this month for their 500 year anniversary party. To the German leadership team, thanks for taking a chance on NC. The team over here is doing an amazing job.

Updated Review (2026):…read more We've been coming to Gilde since they opened their doors in 2022. When we first began coming, they served delicious authentic German food. Unfortunately, they've changed their menu a dozen times and have removed our favorites from the menu (the original braised pork (they changed it over time, but the original was amazing) and the goulash) :( They have slowly evolved their menu into bar food to cater to the party-going crowd as their street has become more trafficked -- which now means a greater likelihood of having to succumb to the paid parking garage. We're big fans of their beers and did a brewery tour & tasting when Gilde was at its peak. Their beers are the reason I at least give them 2 stars: the pale wheat and red rooster are especially delicious. We even spent our NYE 2025 there and did the stein-holding competition. We've tried new things on the menu, desperate to give them more tries... but we keep ending up disappointed. For example, the steak sandwich is not a steak sandwich, but rather a kebab. We've driven the 40 min drive to go there and show up and then they are closed for a private event (with no notice on their social media). We have also brought friends there and have waited an hour for a server. Last Mother's Day, we showed up for dinner at 7:45 p.m (sure, that's a tad late.. but we left our home at 7) and were told the kitchen was already closed. This Mother's Day, we waited 45 minutes, with no updates or warnings, to be seen by a server. When we tried to place our order, we were told that we couldn't yet place our food order and that we had to order drinks separately because their kitchen was slammed. I'm no expert, but why not still accept customer's orders and speed up the kitchen by bulk-cooking? Can't multiple brats be made at once? Or larger portions of sauerkraut or bacon? Also, only a third of the tables were taken.. so that sounds like some poor kitchen capacity. When we were finally served our food (still took awhile even after putting in the food order), they had served my husbands meal 10 min before mine and then I was served mine.. and it turns out they still had forgotten about our daughter's French toast and had to START it. The disorganization or perhaps just lack of effort/care has gotten ridiculous. So disappointed at the way our favorite restaurant went downhill!
