I imagine this entrance would be a huge obstacle for anyone using a manual chair. We walked for blocks without finding an open souvenir shop, so we made the best of it. At least they had at least half a dozen stickers to choose from. Most of your basic tourist collectibles are available: shotglasses, postcards, magnets. Fishtown Airways is a progressive art store that does it all. But it's also an amazing spot to check out and purchase the work of local artists. If you've ever seen it for sale outside during First Friday, at a random festival, or at something like the Big Art Show; then there's a strong chance that you'll be able to pick it up at Fishtown Airways. I saw so much good art and shirts that were worth picking up when I was inside. but be forewarned it's cash only. You definitely want to check out their website, or their facebook, because they have at least 4 events going on each week. Wednesday nights they give local film makers a chance to air their work. they have plenty of DJ nights, fundraisers for things like PAWS, and plenty of artist workshops. and all of that is enough to make this store pretty damn awesome!

It was so difficult to choose. I made three laps around the store before I discovered "Dancing Shiva." " This cosmic dance of Shiva is called 'Anandatandava,' meaning the Dance of Bliss, and symbolizes the cosmic cycles of creation and destruction, as well as the daily rhythm of birth and death. The dance is a pictorial allegory of the five principle manifestations of eternal energy--creation, destruction, preservation, salvation, and illusion. I visited Cork and Candles on a Monday with a friend as a fun day activity. We had booked a 1 PM…read moreappointment in advance and paid a $50 deposit. However, when we arrived, the door was locked and no one appeared to be there. We waited outside for about 20 minutes, trying to contact the business by phone and through their Instagram page, but received no response. Eventually, we left and walked over to McCormick & Schmick's a few blocks away to get drinks and hopefully hear back. After an hour with no update, we decided to stroll around Center City and make the most of our day. Around 5:45 PM, I finally received a call from a staff member who apologized and explained she hadn't seen our messages and she was actually at home at the time. She offered to reschedule us for the next day at 3 PM. We accepted, but since we were still in the area, we called back and asked if we could come "now". She agreed, and we walked back over for a 6PM session. Once there, we were offered wine for purchase and water which we accepted. We got to make two candles each. She walked us through the process and told us to pick out our scents. The music playing added to a fun, laid-back vibe. Despite the earlier miscommunication, the overall experience was enjoyable, and I would definitely consider going again.
