I was given a business card for East Coast Academy of Dog Training. The best recommendation ever. Initially, Paige was unmanageable on a leash. Her fear and anxiety caused her to be hyper reactive to wildlife, sounds, sudden movements. She would not respond to commands and she pulled me wherever she wanted to go. The first time Rob walked into my house, the whole energy changed. Rob has the most wonderful voice. He is soft-spoken. He never raises his voice. He has endless patience. Paige loved him from the first moment. For the first several visits, we worked inside on basic behaviors - come, sit, wait, etc. Paige caught on pretty quickly. So did I! It was as much about me learning as it was Paige. Rob always leaves detailed notes covering the lessons of the day. And consistent practice between visits is paramount. Then we began working on leash training for walks. Rob has given me valuable tools to make walks a positive experience for both Paige and I. We are still a work in progress and, weather permitting, I make a point of walking every day. Paige is so much happier and so much calmer. After 5 visits, I kept telling Rob that I needed more training. In his wonderful, calm way, he said that I didn't need more. That I had the tools to be successful and that he was only a phone call away if I needed to talk through anything. Rob never pushes additional visits if he feels you are ready to fly on your own. I'd had a dog before and knew what kind of commitment they require in time, patience, and money. I felt it was the right time since my job no longer required me to travel very much. I'd seen Chuck Bell (local NBC news weather personality) highlight HRA and featuring select dogs on his broadcast, so it seemed the logical choice. It was one of best decisions I've ever made. After seeing the dogs looking for homes (I wanted to adopt them all!), I saw Rico. He looked like hell and he was a little older than I was hoping for (5 years old) but he caught my eye. He was picked up as a stray and had no chip or identifying tags. He was undernourished and the lower half of his body was missing a lot of hair. The remaining hair had clumps of a black substance mixed in. It was explained to me that he had a horrible case of fleas when he was found, and the black goo was the tar shampoo that was used to heal him. I played with him for a little while and we hit it off. He came home with me that day. I've had him about a year now and I tell people I didn't rescue him - he rescued me. He has enriched my life and been such a joy to have that I can't imagine what I did before he came along. I'm including photos of him from when I first saw him and what he looks like today. It's amazing what a change love, good food, and grooming can accomplish. He doesn't bark a lot, was already housebroken, and loves everyone he meets (dogs and people). I couldn't have ever hoped for a better companion.

I continuously checked for appointments from 9:30 a.m. until noon, but at no point did I see a single appointment become available. I also called your service to confirm that the appointment date or booking procedure had not changed. I was specifically told that I needed to be on the computer at 9:30 a.m., which I was. Given that I followed the instructions exactly and still could not find even one available appointment over the course of more than two hours, I have serious concerns about how these appointments are being allocated. It makes me wonder whether appointments are being released through another method, reserved in advance, or whether certain patients are being filtered or given priority. I would appreciate a clear and transparent explanation of how appointments are released and how clients are expected to have a fair opportunity to book them. The current process does not appear to be working as described, and I would like to understand why.

This is a review based on the care of the adoptable cats in their adoptions center. The animals are provided by another organization, however, the care they receive in store was unacceptable. Every time I went in there to work with the cats there were "hidden" cat pans with filth in them shoved into every cabinet and piled up, dirty beds falling out of the hampers, and filthy brushes, etc., and many cats often have no water. I even had people I know tell me how they went into the Petsmart and had to tell the workers there that cats were without water or proper care. Additionally, it seems any help you want to give (genuine help) is deterred by the manager. Her anal-retentive-control-freak issues are hindering the cats' care because it puts off new volunteers who have to put up with her nonsense like they are her employees. Beyond the care issues themselves, it goes without saying this makes retention of good volunteers difficult, which is working against the welfare of the animals. Who is going to want to be bothered with this location when management's personal junk is hindering them? Volunteers are regarded with tangible suspicion, when she really needs to be paying attention to her own workers who are shoving nasty cat pans into every available slot to make it "look" okay until someone behind them uncovers all the garbage, who cross-contaminate by using dirty scoops, etc. Bottom line, the animals suffer due to human nonsense. Get over yourself and help your people help the animals, or find another line of work. NOT acceptable. At all. read more

While on a bike ride, we rode past the Baltimore Humane Society that I had not known existed. I got home, Googled BHS, and found that they also had volunteer opportunities. *insert smile here* You can complete an application online to volunteer, and they will quickly get back to you with instructions on what to do next. Fast forward, and I'm at BHS for my first training (DogTown1). You'll have to attend various trainings for whichever tasks you would like to volunteer for. Let me also state that their property is VAST. They even have a pool for the dogs to swim in. *insert smile here* After the training, we were given a tour of the facility. Those pets are LOVED! The volunteers really take care of them, from walking to cleaning and just learning the characteristics of each pet; it's an amazing thing to see. We were also notified of five of the dogs who were going home that day. I look forward to the rest of my volunteer experience.

They charged $20 for a 2 week supply of trazodone (sedative), which was worth it. I fully support the Baltimore Humane Society!

I called once, got hung up on. Called back again only for a very abrasive lady to answer the phone very nasty who barked "CAN YOU HOLD?" I asked, do you have any availability today? To which she promptly barked back CAN YOU HOLD! So I proceeded to wait for 5 minutes on the phone, Only to be hung up on when I asked the same question again, she insisted on not answering it and very angrily repeating herself. I have never had this much of a terrible experience trying to call a vet hospital, let alone any business for very simple details that could've been avoided with a simple "Yes or No" but was instead met with extreme Unprofessionalism. If they treat new patients this terribly I can't imagine how awful they would treat animals. I'd call or go somewhere else before you are belittled & waste your time here. It's a shame that this woman represents this business. This is the first negative review I've ever left on google. Note: called back to report this to let the business owner know this is how their business is represented. The girl i spoke with first was absolutely polite but im pretty fairly certain whoever I was transferred to was in fact the same person i had dealt with prior/the head doctor there. I'd suggest Eldersburg or Sykesville Vet before taking your business here.

I pay for medium doodle (25lb-50lb) which is I think $105-150 or something - and they always charge 105. His cuts have been great and they have listened to all my requests, including having his ears cut really short. They have you pay and tip prior to seeing the dog which has not been an issue. Usually book appt close to and do any groomer available. This last time I brought him, they charged me 10$ more than usual even though prices are still the same, and my dog is (obviously) still the same. I keep him brushed so absolutely no mats. Thought it was weird but whatever. Gave a good tip like I usually do as they had been consistent. But this time his cut was all over the place. He has long straggly pieces everywhere and it just looks overall uneven. His private area/underbelly was not even shaved, and around his butt has long pieces as well and I don't think it was even cleaned. His nails were not even cut. When I dropped him off groomer asked if I wanted the same thing and I said yes reminded about the short ears. Day later I noticed he had a cut and looked like a pretty big scrape in his underarm that was definitely from the grooming - it was inflamed as well. Upset I had to tip before hand... I was feeling generous. Feeling pretty bummed bc I was so happy with their services up until this point, hence 3 stars. Moral of the story I guess is find a good groomer here and stick with them, book in advance. I'll try that from now on and update accordingly. Update: bathed my dog like a normally do once a week post our last grooming and he was petrified, uncontrollably shaking. Not sure what went on but, even though I have had 75% good grooms I'm pretty wary of bringing him back.
