I go into PetSmart every once in a while when I need an item for my cats that Amazon or Chewy does not have available. I went in the store yesterday to pick up some grain, free cat treats, and for my granddaughter to look at some of the animals and fish. The store is always very clean and the service is friendly. I think their prices are a bit high on certain foods and pet accessories, but a lot of pet items are expensive nowadays. I found the treats that I needed and they were reasonable priced. They had a good deal on litter for cats that was buy one and get 25% off and the price was reasonable on the original first box. I did not purchase any this time because I have a subscription, but I may change my Chewy order and if PetSmart is cheaper, I will go there instead. My granddaughter enjoyed looking at the birds, and small animals like the gerbils and mice and the variety of fish. They have cats for adoption on Saturdays only. They allow pets to shop with you as well. read more

DO NOT USE GROOMING SERVICES!! Especially not with Kaden S. Took my dog there for a bath and brush which includes a nail trim. I paid $50 for it. And last time i took him to a different store for the first time it took 3 hours. They told me they had a little trouble with his nails but the looked 10x better than what they did after the appointment. They looked like they had not been touched and I immediately called the store and they just had all the excuses and never offered anything back. Even if they did i wouldn't bring him back there again. read more

I stopped in this location to help care for one of Diva Pets adoptable cats and was greeted by 3 friendly employees. Faith opened up the cat cage for me and was so kind. She even went above and beyond in her off time to share the post I made about the cat to drive potential adopters to the store. I'm always so impressed when I find people working in pet supply stores who go above and beyond in all of the little ways that add up for the fur babies. read more

I'm thankful to have such a large pet store in Shawnee, but the "large store" comes with a large amount of employees that don't go the extra mile. I have never encountered an employee going out of their way to ask if I need assistance, or to guide me in the right direction, and often find myself wandering aimlessly looking for things. Dogs are definitely a priority with this pet store. I love all animals, but if not specifically shopping for the needs of a dog, I would look elsewhere. It's a fine store, but more "personality" would be good. read more

I have a small, very timid chihuahua, and this was her first time at the groomer, I was very worried and watched through the window when she was combed out, the staff was very attentive and gentle with her, they stroked her to calm her down, I really liked it. We brought her home and the dog was really very clean, I asked them not to touch her ears, because she really doesn't like it and I clean them myself, and they listened, in short, I was satisfied and the dog too! read more

My little Shih Tzu pup does not like to be groomed. I let the groomers know of this at the first appointment months ago. It hasn't gone too well but we kept trying and each month I seemed to have been "upcharged" for one thing or another. Last visit I was told I would get a "handling" charge for my difficult pup. Really? Isn't this your entire job description as a dog groomer?! I found another groomer who had NO problem with my pup thank you very much. read more

Grooming department is very disappointing. I took my two little dogs there and they ended up with very uneven chopped up haircuts. They charged me an additional $15 per dog to grind their nails and they did not take the time to do it. The dogs came home with very sharp nails. Wow, just wow. Horrible. We made an appointment a month in advance. Contacted our vet and had all of our paperwork sent in with the up to date shot info and everything. Our little dog is so sweet and other groomers always love him because he is so easy going and sweet. We took our dog in on the day of the appointment and we're 10 minutes early in case they had questions etc. Upon entry the very haggard looking groomer notified us that since our dog was within 3 weeks of when his rabies shot was due, they were unable to take him. I can't help but think it had something to do with the phone call she took just prior to helping us, stating that they "only had 2 groomers today and were wayyy overbooked". Upon reading the other reviews here, seems like a blessing in disguise. Our doggo is a rescue dog and he's been through enough abuse, we certainly don't want to put him through what these people seem to be dishing out. Just a shame. If you don't like animals, can't treat them decent and don't want to do your job, then what are you even doing working (more like not working) at a pet store? Pathetic read more

This location is plain awful. I go in for crickets multiple nights a week. There's normally a total of two people working plus jay the manager who just stands around. I usually wait between 15-25 minutes for help getting crickets. Use the grab and go station if you can't properly staff your store. Or I don't know here's an idea hire a manager that actually helps customers or employees instead of standing at the beinfield counter chit chatting with the ladies that work there. That's always what he is doing in the evening when I come in. The few employees are very sweet and kind and extremely over worked, while Jay stands around not doing a damn thing. read more

FOR GROOMING SALON ONLY: They would not take my 6 year old, 19 lb terrier because she was shaking, and a bit nervous. After taking Lucy (my dog) to them for a 9am appointment, we waited outside for 5 minutes because the doors were locked. Once inside I mentioned "Lucy gets nervous sometimes, so I gave her a benedryl about an hour ago, which helps. She has never been aggressive and has never nipped, just wanted you to be aware." They both looked at each other then back at me and said, "we're not supposed to take dogs like that." Not apologetic or willing to ask more questions. I won't be returning. There is way too many other groomers in town with far better reviews. read more

I have been disappointed in the grooming services lately. After making a grooming appt weeks in advance before the 4th of July holiday, the salon called as I was getting ready to take my dog to say they had to cancel and would call me back to reschedule. No one called and I couldn't get in before the holiday. Fast forward 3 weeks to the next appt with same groomer (my mistake) and I walk in just under an hour early. I've been coming for years, this has never been an issue. The groomer looks at me and says, you are early, I cannot stop my current groom to check your dog in. You will have to come back at your scheduled time. It was rather snarky and could have been handled better. I then left and did not return and then cancelled the appt I had the following day for a 2nd dog. I will not return and have found another groomer. read more

I love this store. We get great service when we come in,and there are always plenty of employees to help us. The customer service at this store is GREAT. When we first got our new pet last fall, we weren't sure what to buy for her or what she needed as far as toys. She turned out to be quite a tough chewer, and they let me return toys that did not stand up to her play. Exchanges/returns were easy. They also remember us when we come in, and are always happy to see our dog. When I am looking for something or are unsure, they are more than happy to help us. The cashiers seem sincere when they ask if I've found everything, and even though I know that they are probably required to try to upsell additional items or training classes, they do seem sincere in that as well. I also visited Banfield in the store, and was satisfied with their service as well. I did not use the groomer, and did not get my dog from PetSmart. I believe the previous reviewer is basing her review off of her employment experience and not the actual store. read more

I love petsmart. This location is probably one of my top faves. The employees are hit and miss on how helpful or even nice they are. I am a new dog owner so i took my in to get a harness and the first person I asked stopped what he was doing to help us. He was very patient with my dog considering she has a Huge fear of men (we adopted her it wasn't because of us). He even went to get her a treat and took the time she needed too get use to him. So far great trip. Then we hit the cashier and the one we had really lacked any sort of personality. Didn't acknowledge my dog or say thank you. Just kind of rang us up and let us be on our way. Overall will be going back because of location and a minority of staff are nice. read more

DO NOT BOOK ANY GROOMING SERVICE WITH ERIN AT THIS LOCATION. To start off our visit Erin forced me to bring my dog into their tiny lobby that was already crowded with an family of 4 and their dog waiting to be checked out. My dog was obviously uncomfortable with the situation but she insisted we come in anyways. In the initial consultation she was clarifying some questions about the groom saying that what we were asking for wasn't a "actual schnauzer cut" and questioning our dogs breed- which he is a mutt from the pound so we dont know for sure. After that she immediately started touching my dog in his most sensitive areas without giving him ANY chance to meet her or even smell her...my dog was obviously uncomfortable but she continued. She seems to have NO basic knowledge about meeting new dogs/dog body language. Upon picking up my pup she said she was unable to cut his legs or face because he kept "yelping and trying to bite her" We have gone to other PetSmart locations for grooming and NEVER had anything like that happen. Although my dog takes a minute to warm up to strangers (which I included in my note for booking)- my pup has never tried to bite anyone. Makes me wonder what was being done to him to act like that. From now on I will ONLY book grooming at the South Overland Park location- its definitely worth waiting a few extra days to get an appointment there. read more

People here are nice, there is one worker who freaks me out a bit. He acts as if he has no emotions. I went on the website and it said they still had doves in stock, but whenever I called, they said they didn't have Doves. I'm a little disappointed that they didn't update their website, but that is what you can expect from PetSmart. In addition to this, there are dead fish EVERYWHERE and I mean EVERYWHERE in the fish tanks. In conclusion, Go here for dog socializing, but DO NOT buy pets from here. My fish from Walmart lived way longer than the multiple ghost shrimp I got from this location, but to be fair, the ghost shrimp from this location are $0.39 each, but still, not cool, not cool. read more

I worked here for 6 months and had to quit because the store manager was not ethical. She would talk about employees behind their backs to other employees. IE Me. I reported her to the corporate office and nothing was done. I did that several times. The Store itself is pretty good. The groomers seem too rough with the dogs. I have seen them struggle and yell. Pretty bad. The actual workers are awesome. They are all nice, but do not like rude people (which is normal). I do not believe that any store should sell animals because people buy them on a whim, and do not know how to tale care of them. The employees try to ensure that doesn't happen, but you never know. The trainers are AWESOME! Very nice and helpful. The doggie daycare seems great. I still will not shop there, not until Petsmart stops the sell of animals read more

Petsmart is really a good store. I can usually find what I am looking for right away and even if there is a line at the register, it goes fairly quickly. They have an excellent selection of high quality foods, toys and supplies for your pet. It can be fun to look at the cats, fish birds or small animals they have to adopt. My only complaint is finding an associate when I need one. When I don't need help, one is there. Murphy's law I guess. read more

The ladies back there will call your dogs horrible name forget to give your dog water and won't even scrub you dog in the back they will get chained to the floor and sprayed with a hose. Each dog has a file in the computer and workers can make about comments about dogs( exp this dog is shy or feisty etc )but the staff made comments about the dog owners " don't call this lady she is a b****" I even heard a coworker say " I don't even like dogs that much I am just in here for the money" What worse is the management is aware of all this and will talk down and make fun of employees when they leave the room. Without a doubt the most disgusting crew of people I have ever encounter Please for the love of your pets do not take them to petsmart read more

Let's start by saying they get 1 star because my dog is still alive. I went over how to groom our dog for 5 minutes with the girl who said she would be doing the grooming, turns out, she didn't even do the grooming. They managed to turn the back end of our Cavalier into a buzz cut marine. Good thing I showed up early or they would have butchered the poor girl even more. Her hind legs now look like Turkey legs, which isn't good so close to Thanksgiving. If I would have left her at the groomer, the dumb asses probably would have tried to eat her. It's amazing how people can't do their jobs correctly anymore!!! I recommend you take your pet elsewhere, unless you want your animal to look like it just had a Brazilian wax. read more

Had taken my little 12 pound dog there for several nail trimmings and gland espression. She is snappy so we always put a small muzzle on her. Today when I asked for the above treatments, the girl said I should really take her to a vet for the anal glands, without even looking at her. When I insisted she use a muzzle, so she wouldn't get snapped at, the girl looked scared and called out another lady, who said oh your dog should be sedated to get her nails done, and refused us service,saying you should take her to a vet. I believe both were fairly new at this store. I will never go in that store for pet food or anything again. Very unqualified, and unexperienced if they can;t handle a 12 pound dog. read more

The groomers at this store hung my dog by the neck! After his nails were trimmed, they told him "good boy" which for him is the signal that he is free and he jumped off the table. The groomers leash was still on him and he began to strangulate by the next while the employee tried to life him by his NECK. My wife ran in and picked him up under his arms. NONE of the other employees attempted to help while this was going on. Do not use them under any circumstance! This should not of happened, there should be a quick release or a way to get a dog out of the groomers leash if they are up on the table and the store should be accountable. read more

My two dogs got a "Pawdicure" and one of them STILL looks like he needs his nails clipped. They spent a whole 30 seconds brushing their teeth which I paid extra for. I would not recommend their grooming services at all. read more

I took pet training with the instructor Reese. I really enjoyed her class. She was a wealth of knowledge and provided alternative solutions for unwanted pet behavior. I walked away with being more equipped to increase success in training my pet. It was a great experience! read more

They always seem to have what I want. Some items are overpriced in my view, but typically what I purchase aren't that bad. Some employees are hit and miss when it comes to customer service. We're no fans of the grooming. It's not worth the price you pay. We've since got a new groomer, but will continue to shop here for the items we typically get. read more

We have been using the grooming services here for over 5 years. This morning we were about 20 minutes late for a 7:00 a.m. grooming service due to oversleeping. We rushed in as quickly as we could, only to find that our appointment had been given away to the first walk in that came along. No one called to verify whether we were coming or not. When we asked about rescheduling for later in the day we were told the first available appointment was for next WEEK. Apparently a 5 year relationship means NOTHING to large chain groomer. They have lost our business forever for both grooming services as well as Pet Supply business. We spend thousands a year at this store for dog food & supplies, cat food & supplies, gerbil food and supplies and grooming. Their loss. read more

We took our dog here to get groomed. We had asked them to trim her. She came out pratcially shaved and tramatized. She hid under the bed for a week. We contacted our local vet and he said their trimmer had gotten to hot and burnt her skin. He said they also appeared to be rough with her. She only weighs 9 lbs. I would not recommend this store to anyone. Very disappointed. read more

Last Saturday i had a grooming appointment for my 7 year old black lab and the appointment was at 12pm and all he needed was a bath and a little hair taken off of his back end and his feet. I figured that it wouldn't take more then a few hours to do the job, since i had an appointment. I call the grooming center at 5pm since i hadn't gotten a call yet to say that he was ready.. When i called the lady told me that my dog would still need another 1 1/2 hours since they kept getting walk ins... So you telling me that you can put an appointment off and just take random walk ins?? I was furious... So when i finally went and was able to pick my dog up they weren't nice at all and didn't say sorry for being so late with my dog.. I paid 75$ for nothing and he looked horrible! Then when i got home he had a HUGE bleeding spot on the back of his ear as it looked like they had cut him. Never again will i take my dog to ANY petsmart, or will i ever shot at this horrible place. Its way over priced for what they expect for you to pay. read more
