Please do yourself a favor and find a reputable, independent groomer. The first time I brought my dog here, I was somewhat satisfied. The groom wasn't perfect, but it cleaned her up enough. The second time, with a different groomer, we were informed the previous groomer had actually used shears on our double-coated dog, causing visible coat damage. This new groomer seemed knowledgeable at first, and we were very impressed by the job she did, until we got home and realized she had cut our dog's tail-- something we had explicitly instructed her NOT to do. Now my dog's coat is permanently damaged from their negligence, and her tail was bluntly hacked just days before our wedding, where she was expected to play a vital role and be in photos that we will have to look at forever. These "groomers" have zero respect for owner's instructions and minimal knowledge of proper grooming care. I will never trust them with my dog again, and I strongly urge others to take their pets elsewhere. read more

I've accompanied my neighbor a couple of times to PetSmart so she can get needed supplies for her puppy. Their prices are more reasonable than what you would find in the grocery store and they have a lot of buy one get one 1/2 off offers among the merchandise. Pets are permitted inside. They offer both grooming and Pet training services but she has no need of either of these services since she has had pets before and has her own groomer. She is able to find food, treats toys, as well as bedding for her new puppy. She told me that do have a rewards program for frequent purchases. She likes to shop here since they have a wider selection than other Pet supply companies. Each time I've accompanied her staff is both friendly and helpful to get the right things that she needs and answer any questions she has. I love looking at the dogs and cats they bring in and on one occasion was offering adopt a cat from a rescue organization in the store. The place is clean and well organized. No matter what type of pet you own including small exotics you can always find something that you need here. read more

My husband and I went here to look at the cats. As soon as we walked into the store there was an odor of animal feces. When we went over to the cats we saw that every cage was filthy, and the litter boxes were disgusting! It looks like they have not been scooped for days. We took my puppy to the salon yesterday and the employee who did my puppy's grooming multiple times said my puppy jumped when she was doing his nails so the paw is clipped a bit. I am reviewing not the company or the merchandise itself, but the customer service. I swung by work yesterday afternoon in search for a product to help with my fluffler's hot spot and unfortunately for her, a cone of shame. The store was what one might expect in the world of retail with the added bonus of seeing and petting other people's puppies throughout the visit . HOWEVER, the customer service was excellent. An employee on his way out, clearly off the clock, as evident by his lunchbox, glasses and car keys in his hands, offered to help me anyway. He recommended the product he has the best experience with out of the 5 options available and helped me determine the size I needed for my come of shame. At check out another employee saw me in line and although they were not at registers, quickly jumped on so I didn't have to wait. Although it is irritating so spend a fortune ( a whole $22 ) on a silly cone, the customer service in the store at least made it more bearable. read more

We have always enjoyed shopping for pet items at this PetSmart! The store is welcoming, fully stocked, and they offer sales throughout the store. We have been using Banfield - the vet area of the store for years - Always professional, welcoming, and makes you feel they are treating/seeing one of their own - as they care about the animals they see. We also love the idea they help out the local pet shelters on adoptions and have on-site adoption events (via the local pet shelters). One really nice thing is that each time you purchase something and use your loyalty card - after so many visits - you get a $5 or $10 off coupon. Always a clean store - as long as people clean up after their pets that they bring to visit the store. read more

He always comes back super happy and smelling great. This is toward the grooming department: I took my one year old cockapoo there to get groomed and we have never been there before. My dog is super friendly, has a lot of energy, lovable but he is struggling with separation anxiety and sometimes out of no where out of fear he gets sudden aggression. He has never bite anyone but it is something we are working on. but he is pretty cooperative and disciplined and very pliable. Crystal, our groomer, was so nice and did a great job cutting his hair. But I got very upset with a woman named Courtney, I believe, who called me. She called me a couple hours after we dropped him off and said that he is being unreasonably aggressive and tried to bite Crystal numerous times while cutting his face, paws, butt, ears, etc. and that they will see what they can do. I started SOBBING because I couldn't believe it and i felt mortified and felt bad for the groomer. and the way she made it sound it sounded like he was a vicious dog and was horrible the whole time and that they could barely cut his hair, which he has never done before (little signs of aggression here and there maybe but never the whole time). I showed up whenever he was done in TEARS and Crystal was there and I was apologizing like crazy, crying and she was so nice and understanding and was like "don't cry he did pretty good" and i was like what do you mean the lady on the phone said this to me. And Crystal, who actually cut his hair, said all the things he did good with like he cutting his face and ears using the razors and pretty much everything else and bathing and drying, etc. And said he only got randomly aggressive certain times when she touched his face (im guessing maybe it was when he was getting his teeth cleaned cause he never got that done before). Now obviously I don't want my dog to show aggression at all toward anyone and that is something we are working on that with his anxiety. But I couldn't believe how differently the story was with he actual groomer was compared to the lady on the phone. I was like are you kidding me I got that EXTREMELY upset over nothing. and Crystal so understanding and was like "he was fine for most of it he just got scared, he has never met us before, didn't know where you were, he will get more use to it over time. don't worry I have had a lot worse lol". And his hair cut came out perfect. like I said the lady on the phone made it sound like they could barely touch him but his hair was shaved like all the way down like requested. I was fully prepared to punish my dog and be extremely stern with him when I showed up because of what I heard on the phone but then Crystal told me that he was pretty good and I was so confused. IDK what happened, if there was miscommunication or what but I have never felt the need to write a review for anything till now because i was so upset. But Crystal the groomer was WONDERFUL and showed so much kindness! And Crystal if you see this, I was so frazzled and upset I realized i forgot to give you your tip! whenever I am nearby next I will bring it to you! read more

Worst grooming experience!! I took my 3 month old kitten here for a nail trim and a nail cap last week and the man was horribly rough with her. She was not easy to work with which I admit but two other groomers offered to help, and he declined. When I got home I noticed large clumps of fur had been pulled out. Less than 24 hours later I noticed one of the caps had come off and there was dried blood on her nail and she was bleeding from the tip of her nail. I called corporate to report the incident and when the store called to follow up with me, they blamed it all on my kitten. This is a vast, clean, and well-stocked PetSmart full of friendly employees, one of which happens to hail from the United Kingdom of all places. Their ferret section stands out, however. Atop of that praise, Xander, a silver tabby who was being offered up for adoption at this franchise via the Western Pennsylvania Human Society, managed to capture our attention and steal our hearts. A few days later, we returned to give him a home and our other pets another sibling to play with. Midsummer I had brought my Cairn Terrier into be groomed ! When I went to pick him up they pointed out one of his legs was swollen !!! Had it checked out it by my vet, who referred me to PVS-EC. If I could give no stars I would. My parents took my dog here to get groomed and for the next week he would wake up screeching in pain during the night and every morning. My usual energetic dog spent that week cuddling (which he never does) and lying around. They decided to take him to the vet. My dog loves car rides and he was shaking and terrified to get in the car. Probably feared he was going back to the groomer. In his 11 years he has never acted like that before or after a groomer. The horror stories you read about petsmart grooming are true. read more

We signed up for a training class, got an email confirmation, and even called 3 times to make sure we were in the right class. We get here and they have no record of us being signed up. The trainer Amy was very stand offish about it and made us feel VERY uncomfortable. She then tell us to do a private lesson first which is a $45 on top of the $119. No thanks. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because we got pet treats and the cashier was very friendly to our dog. We will be doing the training classes at the Humane Rescue instead. read more

Lady had a terrible attitude and didn't want to listen. Shaved the poor cats whole back in a choppy manor. So sad this beautiful cat won't have fur for winter. $75 WASTED. Never shopping here again. One of the worse groomers....I went in hopeful and thinking my dog ... ( my baby) was in good hands....I have never been more upset in my LIFE.... I asked to have my cockapoo shaved and nails done.... My dog came out butchered..... She was bleeding in so many spots, and had razor burns all over her its was scary.They even put her in a cage dryer after I had clearly asked them not too. I took her immediately to the vet and had to have her wounds irrigated and antibiotics..... I know your probably reading this thinking my dog was probably a difficult dog or something....but if you contact my current groomers (PawFect).... they will tell you how easy and gentle my dog is to work with. BTW this an updated review....this happened last year....not sure if it changed since then....but I fet it necessary to write this....I still have the bill from the Veterinarian and receipts from the groomer to prove this review. read more

I took two of my dogs to the grooming saloon at this Petsmart location. I am extremely disappointed in the service I received and will never be returning for services again. As someone who works with dogs, I know what proper grooming entails. My first dog, Bowie, a westie mix, was terribly groomed. I asked him to be cut like a westie, as I have done at other locations, and was told he was too matted to do so. He had a few mats, yes, but not enough to have to be shaved down completely. This was simply a matter of the groomer not wanting to take the time to brush him out. Then, after paying for the services, I was told that Bowie "did not like having his ears cleaned" so it wasn't done. In my experience, no dog likes having the hair in its ears ripped out, it's unpleasant. However, it needs to be done. Again, the groomer simply didn't want to take the time to deal with this. His paws are cut uneven, the hair on the bridge of his muzzle is long and uneven, there are razor marks down his back and he looks worse than when I brought him in. My second dog, Valentine, is a six month old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy. I was told that Cavs are not clipped at all and would only get a bath and brush. Not only does she not even smell as if she got a bath in the first place, the hair in her pads and around her feet HAVEN'T BEEN TOUCHED. This is completely ridiculous, every long haired dog has the hair in its pads trimmed. She should have also had the hair on her underbelly trimmed but that wasn't touched either. All in all, I dropped my dogs off at 10 am and had to call around 3 pm to see if they were even ready yet. This was already 5 hours being in the salon. I was told they'd be ready in 30 minutes. I picked them up 45 minutes later and they still weren't dry yet and I had to wait longer for them. In the waiting time, I went ahead and paid for the services, only to get my dogs and see that nothing had been done correctly. My dogs were in the salon for over 6 hours and received terrible cuts, if anything was done at all. On top of it all, both dogs ended up going to the bathroom in my car on the way home. They have NEVER done this before, and obviously had to go so bad they couldn't hold it anymore. Meaning that the grooming techs, while having the dogs over 6 hours, didn't even take them outside to relieve themselves all day long. Not to mention, the dogs drank two bowls of water consecutively upon getting into my apartment, meaning they hadn't been given water all day either. This is absolutely the worst grooming experience I have ever had. I am so disappointed in this service and will no longer shop at your store and make sure to let others know what service I received. Disgraceful and inhumane, Petsmart has really gone downhill. I paid nearly $80 for a grooming job so terrible I could have done it myself read more

One star is for the grooming, not for the store itself, which we love. After bringing in our new maltese/yorkie puppy in to get some basic supplies, we were told by an employee we could drop her off at the groomers for a trim and were sold a coupon book that contained a coupon for a free grooming. Fast forward a few weeks, our puppy's hair is grown out a bit and she's ready for a trim but not a full grooming. We brought her in and did some normal shopping then went into the groomers, where at least two of the groomers were just standing and talking with another working on a large breed dog. Long story short, after turning her nose up at our mixed breed, we were told by the groomer that it would take at least two hours to groom our three pound puppy and that the "free" grooming would be over forty dollars! read more

I love Petsmart. I've always shopped in their store, went to Banfield and used the groomers for the dogs I've had. I did all these things with my Goldendoodle in Cleveland, so when we moved to Pittsburgh, I figured it'd be easy to transfer over. I made an appointment for him to get groomed. They had to move it back 5 hours because the groomer who was "assigned" to me couldn't make it at that time. When we arrived for the delayed appt, there were four employees standing around chatting. They all looked at me when I came in and resumed their conversation. It was a few minutes before someone else helped me. Not a great start.... She comes over to my dog and me and says he needs to be completely shaved. He's a goldendoodle, with really short, curly hair, and I point this out to her. She says it's matted. It's NOT matted--I know matted--it's CURLY. I brush it, and it curls again. She's adamant that he needs to be entirely shaved. I tell her I don't want that, and she says we can reschedule. I drove 25 minutes both ways to have my dog not groomed here. I'm sorry, but I didn't trust what she was saying, and I didn't want to leave my dog there with someone who didn't know what they were talking about. read more

BE PREPARED TO PAY AN ARM & A LEG TO GROOM A LARGE DOG. We used to love PetSmart's grooming dept. The groomers were all very nice and the full spa treatment for our 80 lb Akita - bath, brush, ears, teeth and nails - only cost $75. Our puppy used to come back to us completely clean from head to tail, garbed in a really spiffy band and smelling of something other than dog. Sadly, something changed over the past year or so. First, the spiffy bandanas stopped. Then, the prices gradually went up. Today, we were hit with the "Akita Premium." What cost $75 three months ago today cost $90. I'm extremely disappointed that the staff failed to mention the cost increase until we were ready to pay. Talk about sticker shock! While my dog is still really clean, I feel totally ripped off and discriminated against because of her breed. At those prices, we won't be going back. read more

I think that the store itself is good. However the grooming salon I don't think even deserves 1 star. I took my shih tzu Maltese there to get groomed. It was the middle of winter and me and my boyfriend dropped her off and come back to her being shaved down to skin. She didn't even look like the same dog. they never asked for my permission to shave her. There was no need to shave her. I don't dislike the store i dislike the grooming salon. the groomers are extremely rude. I will never take my dog back. read more

Expensive, extreme wait time...My husband took in an outdoor cat that frequents our home because he had a terrible cough. He has a history of getting respiratory infections about once a year, but our normal vet didnt have an appointment available. We ended up at Banfield after they assured us that although we didn't have an appointment, they would squeeze us in. My husband arrived around 10 am with a sick cat and our 2 year old daughter in tow. He waited patiently until 2 pm before voicing concerns, still the staff assured they'd be seen. As you can expect, my daughter was losing her patience so I too, had to drive out to pick her up so my husband could continue to wait with the cat. After waiting all this time, we were frustrated but it seemed silly to leave at that point after waiting so long. We were also getting concerned for our poor kitty, already sick, having to wait HOURS in a crate. FINALLY AROUND 4 PM, after 5 HOURS of waiting, they took the cat back. They then became alarmed about the cat saying his oxygen level was very low, a high temp, and he had brown around his nose, which they assumed was blood he was coughing up. They started talking about all sorts of expensive treatments, keeping him over night, and oh, a late fee because they were seeing him after hours. We decided to take our cat somewhere else. At the next vet, they said his oxygen levels were fine, the brown was most likely mucus NOT blood, and his temp was slightly high which they actually said could be attributed to dehydration from sitting in a crate for over 5+ hours with little food and water. They gave us medicine for his respiratory infection and sent us on our way. I can't help but feel Banfield purposely had us wait until "after hours" to charge the extra fees. Their demeanor was also very alarmist, it felt sort of intentional to make us feel the situation was more emergent than it was. After waiting 5+ hours for essentially no treatment and feel like we were being extorted, I can say we will never, ever go back here again. read more

I made the grave error of purchasing a dog from The Puppy Barn in Mount Holly, New Jersey. I took her home after being told she was a complete cuddle bug. In reality, this dog was dying and incredibly lethargic. She had a deadly virus called Parvo that is extremely contagious to other dogs. The Puppy Barn knowingly sold her to me deathly ill. I noticed something was very wrong very fast. She was incredibly weak and lethargic and did nothing but sleep. She kept attempting to vomit but had nothing inside of her because she was so dehydrated and wasn't eating due to her illness. The Puppy Barn assured me her dry heaving and attempting to vomit was "hiccups." She came with a "clean bill of health" and had supposedly seen a vet the day prior to her coming home. There is NO way she became that sick that fast. Shortly after, my new puppy began getting uncontrollably sick and had stool that consisted of blood and worms. When rushed to the vet, I was told she might not make it through the night. Not only have I been sick with worry and regret and fear with her, but I have to worry about my other dog for weeks to come. All of the puppies seemed lethargic and sick and I was stupid and oblivious because I was too excited to bring this baby home. PLEASE spread the word that these puppies are incredibly ill and if you're thinking about getting a puppy- learn from my mistake. Be patient and adopt don't shop. Please share with anyone and everyone considering getting a puppy from this disgusting place. They don't deserve your money and you don't deserve the heartache of potentially losing a furry friend. read more

I normally go to the Petco store but since I was in Best Buy I thought I'd drop by the Petsmart. First off when you walk in you get the feeling your in some old dingy warehouse,the lights where so dim and the place did not seem very clean. It has a Vet hospital onsite which was nice and the place was huge but that's the only plus I'd give this place. I walked over to where they have the cats up for adoption and first thing your are hit with is the smell of feces/urine. Looking on closer inspection in the cages all of the litter boxes where full of cat feces and barely any litter in them.. looks as if it hasn't been scooped in a week or more. The poor cats had no food or water and I watched as this poor cat was licking a bone dry bowl looking for some water to drink. I was so horrified. I immediately ask to speak with the manger at once. I was told the people at the shelter come by once a day to take care of the cats! I told them there was no way of this you could tell they where not being taken care of. All the cats where laying on filthy blankets and the cages where so dirty. My heart broke for these cats! I even asked if I could give the poor kitty water that seemed so thirsty and I was denied. I will be reporting this situation. Hopefully for the wonderfully sweet cats sake this problem gets fixed!! For a pet store where it's all about the ANIMALS IT DEFINITELY IS NOT! I would give them a negative star if I could ! So sad!! read more

I have always gone to Petsmart and had the same groomer, who has done a really good job on my two Gordon Setters, one of which has epilepsy and has supposedly had a seizure while being groomed there. However, this last visit was horrible! I had called and the person who answered said 'our groomer' had an opening on Sat. Mar. 21, 2015.. When my husband and I arrived we were verbally 'screamed' at by our groomer. She - at the top of her lungs - said that it was the busiest day of her week and how could we scheduled our dogs on that day!! (How would we know that??) We asked for an appointment on the phone and were given that day. I think that her screaming was to get the point across to the other groomers who gave us the Saturday appointment. My husband and I were shocked and if we weren't in dire need of their grooms we would of left. I will NEVER go back! I realize that all people sometimes have a bad day, but her anger should not have been directed at the customer. I should have complained to the Manager, but did not want a bigger scene than what was transpiring. read more
