PetSmart and Dog Training in Show Low. If you're looking to have your dog trained in the Show Low area, you have very few, if any options. One of those choices is Michelle Denton, who is associated somehow with PetSmart. Dog training is essentially people training; the trainer should teach you how to train your dog, but you're not going to get this from Ms. Denton. No curriculum, no outline, no notes, no lesson plan, nothing that you can learn from. You will get no personal instruction and there is never time to speak with her, as she has an assembly line of classes; one after the other. You are paying for the privilege of walking around PetSmart. She doesn't have any kind of pamphlets, handouts or any written material of ANY kind that would help you learn what you might need to buy or what exercises you could practice with your dog during the week, unless your end goal is to walk your dog inside PetSmart. You will meet at PetSmart and walk your dog around the store with other people for about an hour once a week. This is at best socialization, but little else. You are paying simply to have your dog near other dogs. And the dogs are constantly distracted by other customers and the sights and smells of dog treats, dog food and every other conceivable distraction. It's not a good environment for basic training, but I imagine that it's a free meeting place for Ms. Denton, so that's why you meet there. You can do this at home for free. She is simply taking your money and providing almost nothing. Spend time with your dog at your own home; take them for a walk and invest the time. You can teach a dog to sit in 15 minutes. Dogs are amazing; they reward you for every minute you invest in them. A good instructor knows that one praises in public and criticizes in private, but you'd better be prepared to be criticized and humiliated publicly in front of the others in the class. I can't figure out what her assistant does; he just sits there and grunts and/or criticizes. She might be a nice lady, and she might be a good dog trainer, but Ms. Denton will do you very little good if you're looking to learn to train your dog. She takes your money and gives you almost nothing in return. Don't waste your money with Michelle Denton. PetSmart should be ashamed of associating with this lady. A complete rip-off. If she had any competition, she would probably not be in business. You are not paying for training; you're paying for the illusion of training. I RECOMMEND YOU DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. read more

Employees are friendly, but the last few times I went there I saw several sick and dead fish. I understand that some things happen in shipping, but many of the Bettas were bloated, couldn't float correctly, and I've caught a some dead a couple times. Not recently dead. They had time to sit there and flake and rot it looked like. It doesn't look like they are being watched. I could be wrong about how often they are watched, but I will not be buying any fish at this store because they are in very poor condition. Which is a shame because they are the only real pet supply in town, but I will be driving farther out to get better quality animals. read more

It's a wonderful store. We had to stop and get new cat carriers on our trip back east. The people there were very helpful and extremely nice. They helped me get my cat into the new carrier. They recommended a calming spray and hook me up with some new cat food. read more

Spoke with Judy after purchasing an 'in the wall' dog door for our home a few weeks ago. We are now ready to have it installed, I asked Judy for a recommendation for someone to install the dog door. She pleasant but lacked even the basic knowledge of the dog door products or any subcontractors that install this product. After a prior unsatisfactory appointment last year I decided to give PetSmart another chance. I waited three weeks for an appointment and dropped my dog off early this morning. An hour after her appointment time I received a call that the Groomer had called in sick. The only options I was given were a bath at full price or another appointment in one month. There were four people behind the counter working but no one who could groom dogs. Management needs to review their service standards. read more

I would give 0 stars if I could. They traumatized our dog. Of course, we don't know what happened while he was there, a few months ago, but it took him several weeks to get back to normal. They nicked him around his tail area and he was just freaking out when my husband picked him up. He kept thinking something was hurting him, because the area they nicked hurt when he laid down. Took my Griff in for bath today after surgery 3 weeks earlier. Just wanted washing. Groomer trimmed my 5-month-old Pointing Griffon's facial hairs (eyes, nose) and thinned the hair/fur on her back and sides. Never should this be done to a Griff. The facial hair protects when hunting. Longer, rough outer hair protects coat. All I requested was a wash & trim where matting might be. Will never return! read more
