Be careful with this place and their groomers. You think you are getting something done nicely to your pet well, they lie. Go to another place instead of here for any grooming services or you may end up with a large vet bill for their careless mistakes and the hospital will try to back them up too. Needed to return new item - had my receipt - and was told I could not return an item at their store that was purchased at another Petsmart. I think I've grown to hate PetSmart. We had an old 10 gallon tank in our garage with over $100 in accessories that we wanted to resurrect for our kid to fill with one gold fish. After setting up the tank and buying supplies at this dreaded store (water treatment supplies, etc) this store refused to sell me ONE gold fish for a 10 gallon tank. Sales clerk told me I needed at minimum a 30 gallon tank for ONE fish. I have to stress I was literally buying just one fish as that is all I wanted my kid to have. With a baffled look on my face I pointed to the 20 gallon tank where they have over a dozen fish crammed in it. I said, "I'm sure one of those fish will be happier in my tank as opposed to being cramped in that tank that is know where near 30 gallons." Long story short they didn't care and told me, "sorry can't sell you a fish." Had to take my kid to another local pet shop to get a fish and it's very happy. I only wish I had not used the supplies to prep the tank because I would have returned it. I made every effort to have the tank ready for the fish so that it was happy. read more

They have decent prices but after shopping today, it isnt worth it. First, several employees have their nose hanging out of their mask. I asked an employee where something was, but she was busy talking to a coworker. I waited for their conversation about the weekend to end. Then they vaguely told me where to find what I wanted ("it is on the left side of the store"). Still not a deal breaker, as I get they aren't in the business of customer service. I go to check out and the employee was annoyed that I used cash and didn't have exact change. Unsure why this is an issue, but she felt the need to roll her eyes and tell me she wanted exact change. I asked if it would be easier to use my credit card and she let me know it was too late. Then I asked for a bag and I clearly asked for way too much. For Grooming: I have a Shih Tzu that weighs 11 lbs, he got banned because he was too aggressive! Give me a break, honestly, my dog is hyper, he loves seeing new people and playing with other dogs. Aggressive is far from what he is, I gave 3 out of 5 because they do a decent job. It seems like the staff is underpaid and overwhelmed, which creates a negative atmosphere. Brought 2 of my dogs for bath package that includes sanitary cut, ear cleaning, and nail trim. I got called less than ten minutes into the visit to let me know the first dog was too aggressive. Lol it's a 30 lb Shepherd mix pup that is far from aggressive. When all said and done, my dogs got a half ass bath, no nails, no ear clean, and no nail trim, but of course still expect full payment. My dogs came out of there smelling worse than before I brought them in and was zero effort put into actually trying to get anything done by the groomer. The manager was no help and it was a waste of half a day for all this. This is your average petsmart store. We come here for dog food and toys, which are always reasonably priced. They always have a large selection of seasonal toys for a low price point. During the holidays they have pics with santa, easter bunny, etc which is adorable. I also love attending their adoption events. Very disappointed. I expected a lot more from this store. My rating is for a manager's response to my item-returning request. I purchased a food and water bowl pedestal from the store. 7 days later, I came back to the store to return the item. I did not have a receipt and I did fill a plastic bowl with water so I wasn't sure if it can be returned. The manager told me I cannot return it without a receipt and it was used. Then she asked me why I wanted to return it. I told her my dog was sick and died before he could even use the item. She said, "well I can not take it back". All I wanted to hear was "I'm sorry." Can't I expect that from a pet store manager? Even she might hear that excuse from customer a thousand times, still she can be above and beyond being all business. I have been bringing my dog to be groomed at this store in the past. It was always nice to see other pet lovers bringing their pets to the store. I usually come here over Petco due to convenience and better pricing but today's experience was pretty rotten. I had a coupon on my snip snap app on the iPhone which said $5 off a purchase of $25. Usually every store accepts these coupons from this app since they have barcode and are scanned in. Not petsmart they have to have the actual paper coupon. Bullocks. Who carries coupons on them any more? Smartphones made life easier. So I couldn't save $5 and I think petsmart stinks now. Hey, petsmart !!! It's 2014 get with the program. And $5 is a lot of money. I probably wouldn't have cared if it was .50 but this was pretty stupid on their part to not accept the coupon. On a positive note, the staff is always smiling and helpful. They ask you if you need help and you don't have to go looking for a customer service rep. I needed to have my aquarium water tested, and since they were grossly understaffed, I waited about 20 minutes. The only young man working the area spent those twenty minutes walking around, having small talk with a couple who were browsing. The young man knew I was waiting for him because he made eye contact with me at least three times, yet still didn't acknowledge me with an "I'll be with you in a few". I then asked someone for help finding some flea medicine for my dog and was given the response "We don't carry anything like that here." Given the lazy, lackadaisical customer service, I don't care how close this place is to my house, I'll take my business to Petco. read more

I want to clarify that this 3 start rating is specifically for the grooming services. If I were to rate customer service displayed by the store associates and managers I would give a 5 star rating, NO QUESTION! Now, to the grooming services... I recently went to have my 10month old olde english bulldogs nails trimmed. Upon requesting the nail clipping service I was asked if I wanted to add ear cleaning for and additional $4 and I agreed. Upon pick up, I asked the groomer how his ears were and her reply was "they weren't too bad", which came as a surprise to me given the fact that my dog typically overproduces wax. I accepted that she was telling the truth, so we left and headed towards the car where I check his ears. They were very much still FULL OF WAX (to the extent that it was OBVIOUS that the service was not even attempted). After seeing this, I head back inside and let the groomer know that his ears did not appear to be cleaned. Below is the dialogue that ensued: Me: It doesn't appear that his ears were cleaned, there is clearly a bunch of wax still in his ears. Groomer: Well did you look down deep into his ears? We can't get everything? Me: It doesn't look like his ears were touched. Groomer: I can do it again (in the middle of the lobby floor while I was holding my dog). After placing solution on a cotton ball the groomer then moved it around in his ears and the cotton ball came out almost completely brown. I then said: Did you even clean his ears? Groomer: Well he would not stay still and they are clean now At this point it was obvious that I had been charged for a service that was not completed. Moral of my story: CHECK TO MAKE SURE THAT ALL SERVICES THAT YOU PAY FOR ARE PROPERLY COMPLETED. After speaking to this rude and unprofessional groomer I asked to speak with a manager who was more than willing to listen and was extremely kind. Grooming Salon: I get that many pet owners can be over the top and may not have the most well trained dogs but do not charge patrons for services that you know you did not complete! read more

Yesterday I took my dog to get her nails clipped. They told me about the other packages and I decided to go for the PAW-dicure plus which raised the price from $9 to $26 because it included cleaning her ears and brushing her teeth. As a girl worked on clipping and grinding my dog's nails two other customers with dogs walked in. My dog Kaia started fidgeting and the girl asked another associate to help hold her still while she cleaned her ears and brushed her teeth. They both hovered over her and it was hard for me to see but after about a minute they brought Kaia back to me. I find it hard to believe her teeth was brushed when it still smelled when she licked me. Fine my dog may have refused to have her teeth brushed but be honest and don't charge me for a service that was not done or rushed. read more

I won't say too much because I get to see a lot more of this place since I volunteer at the adoption center (which already makes Petsmart better than Petco since Petco doesn't have a dedicated adoption center like Petsmart does!!!) But the selection, pricing and wide range of products beats Petco by a LANDSLIDE! I love this place - just a great selection of products and things you never could find anywhere else (like cat litter to use for cats to track changes in urine composition if your pets are prone to bladder infections like my lil boy is). Some things in life are just plain wrong; this is one of those incidents. After trying to get in touch with the regional/district manager for Newburgh's Petsmart I give up. I am a long time customer of Petsmart and Chewy. I was forced to make an appointment with a new groomer because my regular groomer was overbooked. I have a Cockapoo female dog who started at Petsmart's training at the age of 6 months. For the first two years she was being groomed at their Newburgh location without incident. For the past five years we traveled to Petsmart's Middletown location for grooming. The groomer took excellent care of Bobina. Most of the time she came back looking like a show dog. This was not my experience with Courtney at the Newburgh Petsmarts grooming. It seems Courtney has a scam going on involving adding charges that were never explained upon making my appointment. My dog was a victim of animal abuse at the hands of Courtney. She shaved her stomach and perineal area which I do not understand because my dog has virtually no hair there. The area was beat red and irritated. Her body grooming was not what I expected from an experienced groomer. I was not looking for anything free, but simply asked for the extra charges from my bill to be removed. Courtney laughed at me and lied to her management about informing me of the extra charges prior to the grooming. A man who addressed himself as the manager told me the grooming was complimentary because I felt he either didn't want to deal with the situation or he had seen what Courtney did to my dog's stomach. I called Middletown grooming and learned I had been blacklisted from returning to any Petsmart groomers with the claim that I refused to pay my bill. I have a complaint on file #78106. I was then called by the Newburgh store manager who verbally attacked me on the phone and basically called me a liar. I tried to find an email address for the CEO of Petsmart which is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Mr. J.K. Symancyk needs to do a review of the scam that is occurring in the Newburgh grooming salon. I am sure many other clients have had bad experiences and have a difficult time trying to seek justice. I've been taking my dog (long-haired german shepherd) here for over a year, for just a bath and the occasional Furminator treatment, but never again. They BURNED THE HAIR OFF THE TOPS OF BOTH EARS. It took me a day or two to notice, and they were not interested in resolving the issue. The poor dog now has permanent scar tissue, raw skin exposed, and had to take major antibiotics to clear up the infection from the result of the burn. They must have left him in the dryer too long in one position. I don't know about you, but my dogs are like children to me, and the thought of them being treated this poorly makes me angry. read more

Between this Petsmart and the Petco in Poughkeepsie-I would choose this place. It's not as hectic and crowded as the Petco-the atomsphere is just more calming even if there are two dogs barking at each other. The lighting here is sorta dim and definitely not as bright at Petco, but seriously--much more calming to shop in and better for puppies. The aisles are spacious as well--not cramped like the Petco. There are additional services here-there's a grooming salon, a vet hospital and a training/dog classes. In terms of what they offer-there is a wide array of food, toys and etc. We were able to find the advantix k9 here on sale and not at the Petco. However, we weren't able to find out dog food here. I love this place because of the grooming salon. The employees are incredibly caring and respectful of the pets,. We brought our puppy to get groomed--and he came out super adorable and with a wonderful comfy new cut and wash! read more

I called to find out about getting my puppy a nail trim on Friday. I was told I could walk in without an appointment. I went in on Saturday and was told I needed proof of rabies. I went back home and returned with the tag given to me by the Vet. Then they told me that was not enough, they needed the actual paper certificate. At this point I decided I would not be returning to Petsmart. They should have told me when I initially called that I needed proof of rabies vaccination. When I got turned away the first time they should have made it completely clear that I needed the actual paper and that the tag would not be enough. This would have been bad on any day, but it happened that this one was 15 degrees outside , and I had to drive 45 miles in total to get no service. In fairness, the staff was pleasant, but they need to make very clear that you need this certificate when a customer call to inquire about grooming. read more

I just took my puppy there for the first time for grooming. Welcomed with happy smiles. Asked what I exactly wanted and was told his ears were going to have to be shaved Bc of matting of the hair. I was sad at first but they explained to me otherwise it would get worse. Then explained to make sure what to do when ears flip and to be careful Bc of blood clotting... Dropped him off at 8:00 am was called by 10:00 am to pick him up! They did an excellent job. I will definitely be going back ! read more

Be very careful when going here for grooming. One of the laziest groomers (Randi) I have ever seen. Brought one of my dogs who is old and needs a little TLC. Could see the Lazy attitude as soon as I arrived and was looking for a thousand excuses not to do the job. Called me with 75% done and told me to take the dog home. Was concerned she would fall. She could lay there and finish up! Imagine going to a barber and telling u they can't finish in middle. Wouldn't care if it was genuine. I brought my two 90 pound pitbulls in today to get their nails cut. This experience was horrible. I watched both my dogs being restrained by a small, thin, leash around their neck, one worker with her arm around my dogs neck and the other worker yanking and pulling on my dogs legs. My dogs were clearly scared, and they were yelling at my dogs to "STOP. STOP" and one woman was huffing. They were literally man handling my dogs. I will say if one of my dogs starts to limp or act in pain, I will assume it was from their visit there. The grooming staff is severely inexperienced. They are not dog trainers nor are they dog professionals. Also, luckily my dogs are VERY friendly and far from aggressive. The two ladies had their faces in my dogs faces and they could have easily been bitten and then that would be my fault. Very upset with this experience. I do not recommend going to petsmart for grooming. Also, very old pee was on the floor infront of the receptionist desk. Very disappointed I had an appointment for my Cockapoo to get the "works". He is 7 months old and still nips. He was being groomed by this very patient young lady, and he was somewhat cooperative as this was only his 2nd trip for grooming. Towards the end of his grooming 2 other associates came to help the young lady cut his hair tighter to his face which was my wishes. As they proceeded he became testy as the young lady that was cutting his hair( who he bonded with) was now the holder, not the cutter. He did nip at the helper at which time they ended the grooming immediately. He is a 15lb 7 month old puppy, isn't nipping expected? He, Romeo, was also banned from PetSmart. Really!? Pet smart staff are very friendly. Prices are reasonable. The only downfall is if you are a fish enthusiast. I'm a 15 year fish tank owner, very experienced with care and disease. My mistake was buying fish here. I bought 5 iridescent sharks once. They all didn't survive the ick that showed up 24 hours after bringing them home. I did not get a refund. Once more I gave them the benefit of the doubt and bought feeder fish for my Oscars I've had for 3 years. They brought ick with them which wasn't showing and with treatment, my Oscars along with 4 other pricey fish worth a whopping 175$, all died. I contacted pet smart and was told, I must not know what I'm doing, and was asked if I was sure it was from their fish. Well, noticing that the staff at pet smart are absolutely elementary when it comes to knowing about fish, I've noticed after the fact that every fish in each separate tank, had some sort of disease, whether it was ick, popeye, or parasites. I strongly discourage anyone who loves the fish hobby from buying fish at a chain store, and I recommend a privately owned fish store with exotic fish in it. Exotic fish ( salt water) need more care and attention, so chances are, they will know air fish and know what they are selling disease free. Lesson learned. Dog and cat food along with accessories is all I recommend from petsmart read more

I bought a baby ball python from this store. The staff didn't seem to know anything about snakes at all , as they gave me a pamphlet about ball pythons. The snake seemed ok when I purchased her. I had her for about five months. I went to take her out of her tank and her head was twirling and her mouth was open. I thought she was trying to bite me so I put her on the floor to avoid her biting fabric. She continued to flail her body and head around repeatedly as she was biting herself to stop her head from twirling. She suffered for five and a half hours until she passed away. It was late night so I couldn't bring her to the vet. I tried giving her cpr and making her heart beat until morning to bring her to the vet but it was too late. She passed away right after she squeezed my hand with her tail. I found out after research that she had a disease called inclusion body disease which is a disease that causes lesions on her brain and spine causing them to slowly die and have seizures. It is highly contagious between all snakes. This had been my first snake therefor she contracted this from the snake that was in the tank with her when I bought her. Never bought another snake from them again. read more

bought fish from this place a year ago...had a tank set up for 5 years and yes my tank is clean and i do all the water changes check ph and so on. so i buy 4 fish add them to my tank which i had fish already in there for over 3 years...within 6 days not only the fish i bought from this place died the fish i had died lost close to a 150 dollars in fish...now i know it wasn't my tank it was their dirty tanks and failure to tell me the fish they sold me just had come in . you never sell or buy new fish that come in do to disease or stress.that all being said i just gave them another chance and my bad because 3 days ago i purchased 6 neon tetras..within 2 days all 6 died and now my other fish again are dieing ...this petsmart either buys their fish from a shit fish dealer or they dnt know what the he'll they are doing there but selling disease ridden fish because of a lack of keeping their tanks clean and or adding antibiotics to kill diseases to their tanks...i warn anyone please don't buy fish from this place...i'm going back tomorrow to demand free antibiotics and a refund...this place really sucks at least in the fish department..again do not ever buy fish from this place unless u like dead fish!!! i'm giving this a 1 star wish they had a negative 1 read more
