After speaking with multiple previous employees of this establishment, it's honestly pathetic they're still in business. Five minutes into speaking with the store manager here will have your head hurting. She's not only illiterate, but lacks basic social skills needed in order to grow. She has literally looked the same and acted the same in the entire 3 years I've seen her working here. I have called corporate, spoken to numerous other customers, and nothing has been done. I don't know if she dropped out of school and lied on her resume, but that woman knows just as much as the fish in those filthy tanks. It's not just her, however she is the one running this business, so I feel it's only necessary to highlight that. I'll always choose Yorktown heights over this place. The 16 year olds at the register seem to have more life experience than her. read more

Such a lifesaver! We have four cats (2 adults and we've recently adopted 2 kittens). I much prefer coming to Pet Supplies Plus over Petco or Petsmart. We would pretty much never go to the latter 2 if Pet Supplies Plus sold our favorite litter (soPhresh scented paper pellet). Otherwise, they offer many of the same features as the bigger box stores: -rewards points -a great variety of products for all kinds of animals -competitive prices and sales and relevant right now: -curbside pick-up Not as ubiquitous as Petsmart/Petco, I feel like this store has more of a locally-owned feel (looks like at least half of their 400 shops nationwide are individually owned/operated). I'd be a lot happier to shop here if they didn't sell live animals. Just putting that out there. Finally, their staff is exceptionally kind and helpful, much more so than I have historically encountered in the big box stores. read more

Although I no longer have pets; I have plants. I needed gravel for drainage in the pots and create a humid atmosphere for those plants that need it. When i did, they have a variety of pets, pet supplies, pet foods and needs. It's not just for cats and dogs. They carry aquariums, and to me more exotic pets. They do grooming. What I did notice, is here people are actually keeping a social distances and common sense. read more

I have been here twice, both times for the same product the Blue Canine Stew series. I have been to several pet stores (larger ones) closer to Albany that did not carry this brand. Oddly enough, it is the only wet food brand that my older dog will eat. They were well stocked both times and I bought over a case. In addition, the second time I showed up minutes before they were supposed to close, and both staff members were totally ok with me coming in and grabbing what I needed. They were friendly and helpful throughout my time in the shop. They have a membership that is worth joining, but I really don't live in the area so not essential for me. This store is terrific! Love everything about it from the service, staff and products at a great price. The staff is extremely knowledgeable about the animals for sale .We use the dog wash station which is always very clean and convenient. We have a large dog so its perfect to bring her here and makes it very easy to wash her. That is great that you are trying to maintain a clean store, but you need to make sure that your employees are taken care of with the proper attire when handling all of these droppings. I have been shopping here for a couple of years now which is why this store is getting stars at all. This has been a reliable pet store for my aquariums and the only one I trusted in the area until now. I dont want to get anyone in trouble but I do want to draw attention to the recent ill treatment of the pet fish in this store. A couple of months ago I got mystery snails from this store, they were healthy and lively. They even brought bladder snail pests with them. I have spent days and nights clearing my 2 tanks of bladder snails. They have about 1000 babies at a time because there are so many reproducing at once. I kept the mystery snails, cleaned them and transferred them to a new tank. (I am still working on the bladder snail problem so that I don't lose all of my fish). This isn't even the reason I'm writing this review. I called this store last week asking if they had assassin snails, a female employee who did not name herself said that they did not. I came in anyway to see what they had in stock since they just started selling fish again (probably because of the bladder snail infestations). Assassin snails will kill and eat any other snail in a tank, which is why they are named as such. As I'm pondering the fish I see that the assassin snails are in the same tank as the nerite snails! So I'm half excited, half mortified seeing that they had them but the nerite snails shells were already damaged probably from assassin snails attacking it. There was a young man that I told about it and he hinted that the other workers and the girl I spoke to on the phone don't pay much attention. This young man has helped me many times and is quite knowledgeable. I got the assassin snails and they are swiftly taking care of my bladder snails. I also got a betta fish. But wait! There's more. I then went there yesterday because I got myself a 30 gallon tank and I wanted to add in some rabbit snails. I ended up buying tetras and a guppy as well. The customer service wasn't great. I was told the store was closing in 30 mins and kind of treated like a nuisance. There were 3 or 4 girls on staff with only one trying to juggle the people who needed fish while the others were laughing in the back about guinea pigs fighting with one another. I've never been more disgusted. The girl asked for help and another girl came and grabbed me my tetras angrily. She did not give me the option of choosing the fish. I felt like a bother so I figured she knew what she was doing and I never had a problem besides the bladder snails at this store. I've never encountered disease. Long story short not even 24 hours later these tetras have infected my 30 gallon with clamaris or velvet disease and I now have to empty my aquarium, get a holding tank for the snails and completely recreate the ecosystem. Then I go and check on my betta, same coloration and dead. DO NOT GO HERE UNTIL MANAGEMENT ADDRESSES THESE PROBLEMS. Stopped by today to pick up some cat food. This was my first time coming to this store, and I did not know where to go. One of the workers kindly greeted me and asked if I needed help. I told him I needed some cat food and he walked me to the aisle to show me all of the different brands. He told me he has a cat that he started feeding the Redford Naturals brand to and he highly recommend it to me. After, he walked me over to the register and rang me up. He offered to carry my items to the car, but I declined. I asked him for his name because I wanted to write a review for his excellent service. His name is Tyrone. He was very friendly and helpful. Went here to pick up a few things for my pet rabbit. When I approached the register the female cashier scanned my items and than proceeded to try to scan my present non expired coupon that would not scan on my phone as a large line started forming behind me. I than read her the promo code from my phone and it took her way too long to type it in like she was on drugs or something! She than grabbed my phone out of my hand to hold the phone and re type the promo code on her own. I than caused a scene and the "manager" came over to manually honor my coupon. I don't understand how hard it is to honor a coupon the first time after not able to scan it. This store is SO OVER priced inventory is ALWAYS LOW and does not honor lower competitor prices like pet co or pet goods does. It was a complete mess I couldn't even find my dogs food and when I asked the assistant manager for help he was extremely incompetent and unknowledgeable about anything comparable. I hardly write reviews anymore but wanted to say that this store and its employees are wonderful. I ran out of orchard grass and my shipment was delayed so I called this store. They have a great selection of small pet food including orchard grass, timothy hay and other grasses. They put two big bags of orchard grass (the only thing my bunny will eat) on the side for me and I was able to drive over and pay for it all without a hassle. I noticed that they do curbside pickup, too. The whole store is neat and tidy and employees seem dedicated to keeping things safe and clean. This is the second time I have called them in an emergency situation and the second time they were able to get me what I needed without a problem. We'd shopped here for years: litter, food, collars, tags, heating pads, beds, toys... We were thrilled when they collected supplies to help shelters after Hurricane Katrina. And the employees have always been kind. However, an employee told us that when the power outage happened last winter for several days that "all the animals we sell out of the back froze to death." I'd known they sold fish, but I never had even known they sold other animals! I avoided the place after that, buying online and elsewhere, but recently had conveniently put the "frozen animal" story out of my head, and went there for litter out of desperation. Apparently, it was not just a story. The temperature has just dropped, and the aisles at Pet Supplies Plus are crammed with rabbits, gerbils, hamsters, etc. in cages, with kids sticking their fingers through cages and people bumping them with their carts. I won't support a store that buys animals from breeders and sells them, instead of urging people to adopt from shelters. It's just icing on the cake that there isn't even a safe space for those animals to be while in the store! read more

Took my 3 yr old chihuahua for a nail trim yesterday, as I have done numerous times in the past. I knew not to stand where she could see me, so I meandered through the store waiting for her. After @ 15 min. I went back to see how they were doing and he was still working on her 1st foot!! Gave them a little longer and when I went back this time, he was standing there, clippers in 1 hand and the other hand stuck out saying, "give me your paw"!!!! WHAT??? Some dogs may know that but this one doesn't and why would you think they would give it to you anyway??? I asked if he needed me to help and he said yes. I went in a cuddled my dog who was shaking like a leaf. I picked her up and cuddled her while he trimmed 1 of the back feet....he let go of that foot and picked up the other and said, "oh my, she just..." I said peed? I didn't like the idea, but would have understood...."no, she's bleeding." WHAT??? He'd cut the nail too short and it was bleeding. I asked if had styptic powder and he turned to see what was on the table, moving bottles, jars, etc. and finally found some....he tried using a cotton ball to dab some in, but that didn't work too well, so he switched to a tissue.."ok, under control" and went back to the other 2 feet he hadn't completed yet. It was then I saw a book open on the table next to him with the instructions on how to trim nails and a diagram showing the nail and where not to cut!!! WHAT???? THEN he fesses up and tells me the entire grooming crew quit as a group and this was his 1st day! He'd only groomed 2 other dogs that day - this was 3:30 in the afternoon!!! If I had known all this, I never would have let him start to trim her nails! We were finally done and started to leave when another employee noticed that we were leaving a trail of blood where Chloe (my dog) stepped....yup, pouring out of her AND now this employee also notices the front of my winter coat is soaked with her blood!!!!! Controlled??? I don't guess so! He finally stuck her foot in the tub of styptic powder only to discover IT WAS THE WRONG FOOT!!!!! He stuck the other foot in, I held a wad of tissue I had in my pocket over her foot long enough for my daughter to pay the bill (which we shouldn't have) and get us home - when we got home, we soaked her foot, got the bleeding under control; treated and washed my winter jacket that is destined for the trash pail because the blood won't come out! The bleeding did stop and we examined it carefully and there is hardly any nail left there....taking about cut to the quick!!!!! After examining the other feet, he barely cut anything off them. DO NOT GO THERE FOR GROOMING!!! I have many questions, the first of which are why did the grooming crew quit all together??? There must have been some good reason!!! Who's going to buy me a new winter jacket??? Obviously, me, but......shouldn't it be them??? Never again will I do any business at that store!!!! (I had to select a star to post this review, but the whole experience was minus 10 stars in my book!) read more

I took my baby Lola our Chorkie and Tammy groomed her!! What a fabulous experience. Tammy was loving and so attentive. At one point as I was spying I saw Tammy kiss my Lola on her head and reassure her that she was almost done and Mommy would be back soon. Lola looked glamorous. The bandanna was adorable. I tipped Tammy $20 well worth it!!! I will now only have Pets Plus groom her. I highly recommend them. Ask for Tammy. Tammy is a loving dog person. I wish I can give the groomer a negative 10! I've used them on and off for years. I made an appointment yesterday for my Morkie and explained everything I wanted done AND what I didn't want done. 3 hours later (yes, 3 hours) he still wasn't finished. She didn't do most of what I asked and gave him a HORRIBLE, uneven cut (mind you, I didn't want his hair cut). I asked her for the receipt so I can go pay. She was so slow I lost my patience and asked for a manager. She didn't call him, so I walked out, slamming the door. The manager heard me yell so he was on his way. HE apologized, told me I didn't have to pay (damn right I wasn't going to pay) then...he tells me oh, we fired her last night - today is her last day!!!! I went crazy!!!!!!! Why would anyone let an employee continue to work if you know they are not good? I told him he should have called everyone and rescheduled!!! He was a bit surprised at my reaction!
