Absolutely Horrible Experience, Do Not Bring Your Pet Here I've never been more disappointed or disrespected by a business that's supposed to care for animals. I brought my dog to be groomed at this PetSmart, as I've done before, and was turned away by the groomer--despite having a vet's clearance that my dog was safe to be groomed (with the only condition being no sedation, which had already been communicated and followed in past visits). The groomer not only refused service, claiming she had two other dogs to groom (even though I had a scheduled appointment), but told me it didn't matter what my vet said--"what she says goes." When I asked if I could have the same groomer who had successfully groomed my dog before, I was told he had been fired. I requested to speak with a supervisor and was completely ignored. As I was walking out of the store, I overheard the groomer speaking poorly about me to the supervisor, and in front of the entire store, she shouted "F*** you" at me. Absolutely unprofessional, unacceptable, and disgusting behavior. I felt racially profiled during my visit to PetSmart because I noticed that white customers were treated with more respect and attentiveness than I was. As a Spanish person, the difference in treatment made me feel uncomfortable and discriminated against. This place is not safe for pets--or respectful to pet owners. They lack proper documentation practices, treat customers with disdain, and clearly have zero accountability. Please do not bring your pet here. You deserve better. I just picked my dog up from a week long stay in the "pet hotel" and was told he wasn't welcome back because he only pooped twice while he was there. They complained that he wouldn't poop INSIDE! What the heck?! Of course not, why would I teach my dog to poop inside?! I was under the impression they took the dogs outside to do their business and was never told anything different. He was basically being punished for what dogs are supposed to do. They also complained to me that they brought him to the vet because they thought there was something wrong with him, which of course there wasn't. Not once did they call me to let me know what was going on or to clear anything with me first. I spent $500 and my dog was miserable! Never again!! read more

I have been using Petsmart for almost two years now. Trained my dog there, shop there regularly, use the grooming and boarding services, etc. Never had a problem. Yesterday I dropped my dog off around 9 AM. He was scheduled for a half day of dog daycare and a nail grooming. My boyfriend and I were scheduled to pick him back up about 2 PM. We get a call around 1:45 saying our dog cut himself and they were at an animal E.R. We met them at the E.R. (the manager and the employee that found my dog bleeding). Story goes that my dog was put into a kennel for an hour for lunch. Employee walked away and when he returned 10 minutes later, my dog was already injured. We know there are cameras in the boarding/kennel area, so we asked to see the recording to find out what happened. Strange enough, they had no recording because there was no camera in the room he was in. They put him in a laundry room with industrial sized washer and dryers. There were no cameras there because it is not meant to be used to store animals. It is a laundry room. As I said, of course, the actual kennel area had cameras. Ironic our dog gets injured in a kennel in a room that is not meant for boarding and there are no cameras. Go figure. My dog needed something like 8 stitches and two different medications. Of course Petsmart paid. We returned to Petsmart to the kennel he was in to see if we could find the problem. The manager had asked the employees not to clean his kennel so we could inspect it and see where the blood was to get an idea of what cut him. The employee disobeyed the manager's request and cleaned it without even taking photos for us. We checked the entire kennel and could not find what cut my dog. Makes no sense, and I think it is suspicious. I will not be returning to this location. They have lost a customer who visits at least twice monthly. BEWARE OF YOUR DOG BEING INJURED AND REASON BEING COVERED UP! This location only gets two stars for the management's quick acting/thinking. read more

My dog was banned from this hotel because when he was there for a week, he didn't poop or pee indoors. We had no idea that they don't walk the dogs outside. My pup was also on medication and we told them not to give him cheese, but they did anyway. When my daughter came to pick him up, he had feces all over his butt and my poor pooch had diarrhea for a week. The manager said that he would still be able to do day care. But when I recently called she lied and went back on her word and said he wasn't welcome. I never heard of such a thing and if you really care about your pooch, you should look elsewhere. read more

Hello I just went to PetSmart on Long Island and I asked about my puppy if She can come to puppy play date. Which they have to be 10 weeks to 20 weeks . And she's only 6 months old and she cannot go which that's not a problem . But then she suggested another solution for me. But when I asked her about if she excepted my breed and told her she's trained and everything she still didn't allow it cause of the kind of breed she is . She's a sweet 6 month old Pitt bull boxer. went once and loved what they did to my Golden Doodle. Went a second time and paid for the teeth, nails add on and asked for a trim. My dog came out shaved down without warning (no matting was discussed). his nails are long and not filed or cut. came home with shorter spots that itches and turned to hot spots and cuts on his ears from the trim. Upset that this was the way he came out and there was little care taken to giving him a nice grooming for the 140 I paid. read more

I am writing this review based on my first visit to the vet, Dr. Campanelli on 5/1/15 For years I brought my pets to another vet in Port Jeff. I really loved him and his staff, but they were very expensive. Seems like I'd never leave with a bill under $300 for routine visits and sometimes medication. Friends of mine also switched because they felt they were very steep. Dr. Campanelli at PetSmart was one of the doctors at my old vet, so when I saw her name on the roster at PetSmart I knew I'd be in good hands. I brought my older dog in for an exam and vaccines. I found a coupon on their Web site for a free office visit for new clients, great. Do your homework on their wellness plans. The technician was trying to sell me one before the doctor even came in to see my dog, and that was a turn off. Check what is covered within the plan -- or more importantly -- what is not. The blood work my dog needs is a big expense (about $200), but it's not covered by a plan. Neither is the medication. From what I gather the plans work best if you have a puppy who needs neutering/spaying and several rounds of vaccines. But then again you might be better off going to a low-cost spay/neuter clinic. Dr. Campanelli didn't push me into having the expensive blood work for my overweight senior dog done right away, which I appreciated. We agreed it would be a safe bet to try her on diet food and more exercise for a month and then reassess her. I did have the same appointment problem that other reviewers stated. I made the appointment for both my dog and my cat -- there was a 2 week wait to be seen. I was going to kill 2 birds with 1 stone by bringing them both, plus there is a discount for bringing multiple pets in the same visit. When they called the night before my appointment to confirm they only had my dog scheduled -- Nick, the technician hadn't booked enough time for both pets to be seen. Kind of a drag because now I have to wait another week and a half to bring my cat in, and I won't qualify for the multi pet discount. I'm still giving them 4 stars because I do like Dr. Campanelli a lot based on my prior experience with her at my old vet. Update 5/10/15: I brought my 2 cats in today for exams because Nick didn't schedule enough time during my last visit for my dog and cats to be seen at the same time. While I waited for the doctor to see us I wanted to ask the front desk if they could call my old vet to have them send over vaccine reports and any other records they had. Valerie at the front desk was on the phone with another client. I waited almost 10 minutes for her to finish up and never once did she make eye contact with me to acknowledge that I was waiting, tell me she'd be right with me, or ask what I needed. If she had taken a second to ask what I was waiting for I could've quickly told her, gone back in the room with my unattended pet and she could've finished up her phone call. Reception 101!! I finally got tired of being ignored so I went back in the room and called my old vet myself to request my pet's records but guess what? I had no idea what to request -- I'm not a vet tech -- so they were missing a key piece of the puzzle and had to call again and waste more time waiting for the fax to come in. I like Dr. Campanelli, but you're only as good as your support staff! So far they have 2 strikes against them. I'm leaving my review at 4 stars for the time being but I have 2 upcoming follow-up appointments so I'll see how those go before I make any changes. read more

Do not bring your dog here for grooming if you have a poodle. Poodles get matted, right? This is a part of the genealogy. We walked into petsmart to have our dog groomed however we were quickly turned away because he was matted. Had to waste now another week and more money to get vet clearance for no reason. The dog is matted yes, i agree, and it wasn't great... but I was told that this shouldn't have been a problem and just to shave him down. To which we are doing.. at another groomer. Their selection of dog toys and products are amazing, but I was floored when we walked past their fish selection. More than half of the 2 shelves of bettas were dead, kept in TINY sealed plastic containers. Some of the water wasn't clear. It was disgusting. I am so sorry not only for those fish, but for anyone who wants to have a fish to love and care for only to have it die on them because of abuse and negligent care. Now, I don't know fish or much about their health, but we went in there shortly before closing to quickly get our dog a dental care bone -- 8:30pm and there are at LEAST a dozen dead bettas in their own individual containers. Look, the last time I had a fish I was probably 9 years old. Theodore wasn't alive that long, but I loved him. Dearly. Fish are living creatures and it's despicable that they are bought in bulk to the point that their deaths are ignored -- somehow this isn't considered product shrinkage, they just DIDN'T CARE. I loved this store but I'm not okay with this. I discourage buying from them, and strongly urge you not to get any fish from this location. read more

I simply have to give Petsmart a five star rating because their staff could not be more helpful. Over the last month, I've had to call the store and ask if they've had a certain food for my cat who's had serious digestive issues. Every time I've had to call or go to the store, I've been met with courtesy and a willingness to help me solve the problem whether it was to find a food I need or to get advice. I take my two yorkies to the Lake Grove location. Of course every dog would prefer to be home with their "parents". I am very fussy about the care of my two "babies". I have tried home type boarding, that is hit and miss depending on what is going on with the sitters. Some are wonderful. Here the care is consistent. I always get the suite and of course they have TV, I add the doggie ice cream treat or kong. I send their own food, because that is what they prefer. I enroll them in 1/2 day camp so they have some interaction with other dogs. I do not have to worry about a gate being left open or being left in a back yard for a long time. If they have a health issue, there is a vet that can attend them at the location. Not cheap, but worth it for peace of mind. read more

Doggie Day Care who knew? Well about everyone but me. Needing to board The Beast and wanted him to get use to the place, well they have full and 1/2 day Doggie Day Care. It is awesome the Beast seemed to have a great time as do the other dogs that you can either see on the CCTV system or through the full glass walls. The staff and Mgr Deirdre are 5 Star awesome and this from a guy who does NOT suffer fools easily. They really make you comfortable that you are lending them your furry child and that all will be well. The report card they give you at the end that documents the day is great but the added bonus is the free form writing they do in the Dog Person sense that really is cute. read more

Dropped husky off for a bath and a furminator brushing for her. After they had called me to say she's ready to go I went to pick her up. She was still a little wet even though a husky is supposed to be thoroughly dried and they did a pretty bad job brushing her as there are still chunks coming out. read more

Due to various circumstances, we needed to find a place to drop our dog off for grooming in this area vs. closer to home. This PetSmart was the closest location with availability. After reading the other yelp reviews I was super nervous to drop off our dog, but we did it anyway and I am so happy we did! It's the best haircut he's ever gotten, they did other things that our normal groomer doesn't do (nails, ears, etc) and it was cheaper too. Not to mention the staff was beyond nice and accommodating. I booked my dog to be in the pet hotel. They told me that because of his breed he is not allowed to be in the play room with the other dogs. He is a Pitbull. Without knowing him, his history or anything about him he was discriminated against. I am very disgusted that this is a policy. This needs to be changed. Dogs should be judged based on their history and temperament, not solely on the breed they are. I will not be shopping here anymore. I will be telling everyone I know that this company is discriminatory and not to use their services. As a dog groomer myself, I am familiar that the stigma of pitbulls and know that it is false. The managers here are the nastiest people I have ever encountered, I wouldn't even give one star if I could post this review without it. The girl at the register was so nice and was helping me with a return I had gotten for Christmas and needed a manager override, the lady that came to help was nasty with a terrible attitude and was like oh nope you need a receipt so get the number or find a receipt, I tried to explain it was a Christmas gift I didn't want to tell my old aunt I don't want her gift and she didn't even care or act like she listened. The other guy manager and her I feel judged me because of my appearance I was dressed in a hoodie and sweatpants. Awful. I dropped my small 6lb mini Cavapoo dog off today at day camp and she was put in a room with 12 large dogs. She was terrified. They did not separate her and she was yelping for help. The dogs kept chasing her and the staff did not push them away from Her. I understand dogs need to socialize but she's a 6lb puppy and 11 large 40lb + Dogs is a bit intimidating. I had my dog stay at the pets hotel. He came home exhausted. He is 4 years old . It took him 3 days to feel back to normal. He had dry shampoo on him. So I gave him a bath. I then noticed a lot of ? Dry skin, stuff under his muzzle. As I was completing his bath at home I noticed his nails were worn and hollowed out from the back. He never had issues with his nails ever. I cannot stress this enough to anyone looking to get their dog groomed at PetSmart... don't do it!! I took my Maltipoo dog in the other day to get a trim and have his nails trimmed - it's the middle of winter mind you- and they took all the hair off of my dog. In some areas he is down to the skin! He had a little bit of knots because he is a poodle mix so he has curly hair. The groomer- Nicole- decided to be lazy and just not brush him out and called me to tell me that his fur was too badly matted and that she needed to buzz him. I was in a time crunch and was stupid and said okay just do what you have to do. She made him bald and my poor 6lb dog won't stop shivering even with a sweater on. Not to mention where she did shave, she did a terrible job and I had to go back in myself to fix it. I wanted to get the oatmeal bath to help with the dry skin my dog had from the cold weather which upgraded the haircut with some extra features... she charged me $18 more for the haircut but only did the shampoo... no teeth brushing and fresh breath or anything. So I spent $85 to have my dog shaved bald because of laziness. This is not the first time this has happened either. They never do what I ask them to do and I keep giving them second chances but I will never spend another penny in that store. I'm beyond mad about what they did to my dog and how much they charged me for it. read more

I picked up my dog this morning. He was just banned from returning to the pet hotel. Now that I've had all afternoon to think about what happened, here's my opinion: As it was told to me by the staff, my dog went after another dog that was in its cage. When the handler tried to redirect my dog, my dog nipped him in the leg. (I AM truly sorry for that) That said, my dog has been staying there for the past 4 years WITHOUT incident, & his reports were never anything but stellar. My dog actually LOVES people, he'll take all the attention you can give him. The staff told me that when they went to his cage he either growled at them, OR cowered back in his cage. Since Covid, this "looks" like a lot of new staff, I may be wrong. BUT for a dog to act like that, there must have been some inexperience or mistreatment. My dog, like all dogs react to whatever energy is given to them. I feel he has been somewhat traumatized by the whole experience. Truth be told, some of the staff I met surely did look like they didn't have much experience, or the right attitude for the job. Just my two cents. I'd be very weary of this place. read more

Never takes longer then 3 hours for a full grooming of our King Charles Spaniel. He is bathed and groomed, nails are ground, teeth brushed and glands taken care of. Our dog, who is apprehensive of some people, never hesitates to go with April. Her attention to detail and the care she gives him is worth every penny. I trust her implicitly! read more

I went in to make an appt for my dogs to get a bath since I called twice and left on hold (should have known then) the girl that helped me was so incredibly rude! Like I was bothering her, whatever bring them in next morning waiting 10 minutes before we went out to find someone ourselves to help the 1 girl that was already grooming another dog. (Ps 7 people were standing by door as greeters) gimme a break. I pick them up there is an extra charge on my bill yet nobody knows how it got there or if it was even done. I don't mind paying for a service, but come on people. Nobody has any idea what's going on here. And to boot my dogs faces were still dirty. This was my first and last shot. I recently could not get an appointment with my regular groomer because they were booked a month out. After checking multiple places and reading a lot of reviews I decided to bring my dog to Pet Smart in Lake Grove and have him groomed by Noel. I had read a bunch of reviews about Noel on line and it sounded like folks were really happy with how she groomed their dogs. It was a great experience. When we checked in, Noel bent down and greeted Gizmo and he seemed to like her which is a big plus for me. He even offered her his paw twice (without being prompted). She listened carefully as I explained exactly how I wanted him groomed. She even asked a few clarifying questions so that she was sure what I wanted. I was able to stay in the store while he was being groomed which was great because I was very nervous about leaving him somewhere he had never been before. She called me when he was done and he looked great and seemed happy (of course he was more than ready to go home but he did not seem stressed). All in all a good experience. Thanks Noel read more

Occasionally the groomer cuts him in a way that I don't care for- but really, that's not a big deal. As another reviewer stated problems with appointments- yes, thats happened to me as well... I came looking for a couple of fish for my new aquarium and I found the stock to be impressive. Bristlenose plecos, oto catfish, dwarf gouramis, endlers livebearers, shrimp, they had it all. I left with a beautiful dwarf gourami, 5 neon tetras, and 3 harlequin rasbora. Compared to the Petco next to LA Fitness, this store was much better. read more

So I had to goto NJ for family reason and left my puppy in the puppy day camp, THAT WAS THE WORST MISTAKE I'VE EVER DONE!! they clipped my puppy's nail which was recently clipped, and they cause my puppy's front and back paws to bleed. When I pick up my puppy they said they were "walking" my puppy and it started to bleed, which was a lie because when I felt her nails is not smooth, but corse. THE BEST PART IS THEY CHARGED ME FOR SOME MEDICINE FOR STOPPING THE BLEEDING THAT THEY CAUSE!!! Also I gave them a can of ceaser and some dry food it was suppose to be her dinner if i couldnt make it back, when i rush to get my pup back they never even return the container or the food back. First lets start off with the fact that it was terrible to even make sure there was an appt we had called the night before to make the appt and they said we were all set when we call the next day to confirm they say there is no appt and we were then abruptly transferred to the grooming salon for no reason and then when we called back there was magically an appointment (however this is after an hour long conversation with 5 different people. Then we left our dog at doggie hotel at PetSmart Lake Grove#2104. I was absolutely disgusted with how I was treated and my dog was treated. I was lied to about what charges I was responsible for, and was lied to about how was dog was treated and where he was and when I discovered this I was lied to again about what had happened to him while he was left there. Then I was expected to pay for a charge that I had specifically asked about if I was going to be charged and was told "no" that the Company was responsible for that charge. I was also not informed about anything while was dog was boarded. I was under the impression that he would get to pay with other dogs like I asked at the puppy playtime and was informed that he was in a crate the entire time he was there after he was injured while in your care. His injury was then blamed on us that he had come into the doggie hotel with the injury when he certainly did not and when this was explained to the employees they preceded to say that we had brought him in with the injury and that it had not occurred while in their care. Again I am truly disgusted by how my dog was treated while in your care and at how disrespectful the staff was when communicating with us. read more

I like shopping here for all my pet needs. However their no hassle return policy is not so. I wanted to return a new unopened bag of pet food and was not allowed to do so because it was expired. Well they sold it to me that way. Buyer beware check the expiration date on food items before you leave the store. The food was expensive and now I'm out the money as well. read more
