Took the dog to the beauty salon. The dog is a good dog with people but can be a lil anxious around other dogs. She they got her and did all the nice spa stuff. I had gotten 6 neon tetras from them to add into a community tank with my Betta fish who was incredibly healthy and active. However after the first day one died, then the rest surely followed. My betta fish who was very lively and active died in less than one week because they gave me a sick fish that unfortunately wasn't showing any symptoms until it was too late and everything was already contaminated. Thanks to them I lost a fish that had been one of the most amazing creatures I've ever had the pleasure of living with and raising. I highly recommend NOT getting any fish from this store. read more

A few years back you could walk in to this petsmart for a nail trim for ur dog. I was in that neighborhood and stopped in petsmart for a nail trim. I was with my dog and my BFF. When we walked in I said. I'd like to have my dogs nails trim.There were two workers there. The cashier groomer looks at me and says, in some what a attitude way. YOU have to have an appt. For a nail trim. I said oh, ok I didn't think you needed one. All the while the groomer working on a dog at the back of the room. Glared at me, she kept staring at me with an angry face on. I usually don't have a problem with this location since the first few times we went, except the lack of staff (Which is not the workers fault, for being understaffed) but the cashier we had was nice. But this recent visit, the cashier with the short colored hair and glasses was rude and passive aggressive. Also not a hi or hello either. Everyone can have a bad day, but you don't need to take it out on the customers. I took my gsd there to see a cat I was considering adopting named Jupiter. I was in there for less than 30 seconds before a guy named Jordan walked up close behind me and said "can you remove your dog from this area" I said okay thank you but can you please back up as my dog is reactive and had growled at him and backed up because him being so close made her nervous. he then had a issue with me asking him to move so we could as again my dog was nervous so I said can you please remove yourself so we can go he then said "what the f is your problem" simply because I asked him to move.I've never been treated like this and was there a few days prior with my dog looking at Jupiter for 30 minutes and all any employe said was do you need help with anything. I'm confused on how it got nasty that fast as this time I was only there for less than two minutes to see Jupiter. we went back and jorden who cussed me out was smiling with the cashier and then the cashier was being rude until the manager came and got the real and full story not jordans. my dog is fearful but very well trained and well mannered and her only issue was jorden standing so close when I asked him to move and before the manager came he said "if your dogs so reactive whys she in here" again simply because I asked him to back up. Honestly one of the worse petsmart we have been to for grooming !! The girls in there are the most incompetent people we have ever met ! They never do our dogs hair cut correctly , never listen to what we request are always mopey or high whichever when we drop them off . The worst is they never EVER tell you the right times to pick up our dog ! They will tell us 3 hours or sometimes 3.5 and then when we. Call our dog is not ready and the 21 year old young girl will claim they told us longer ! No you didn't cut the crap you guys are slow and don't know how to do the job correctly but in a timely matter . And when you hire kids or people that just don't care this is what you get . We will from now on take our dog someone that actually cares about their animals they take care of and can handle a busy schedule and execute the job in a timely and correct manner . read more

I bought a Topfin fish tank scrubbing pad that looked really nice and would fit the bill. I've used it twice and the pad has separated from the handle. Just a piece of crap that will add to a landfill far too early. You want to carry something as an opening price point, fine. I bring my dog here to get groomed and these girls are the bomb! Everyone is very nice, they take their time and are very professional with my pooch. The hours are flexible and if I can't get there right on time to pick her up, they are very understanding. And my dog looks fab when she's done. I really don't see me taking my dog anywhere else. If you're looking for someone who is knowledgeable and passionate about their job, come here and talk to Deb. After an older fish of mine passed, I decided I wanted to develop more. So I originally went to the PetSmart on rt. 14, bc it's close to my house. Unfortunately the gentleman who "assisted" me there, made me feel unwanted and a bit stupid. Telling him about my current tank and asking for recommendations as to what I could pair with my African Cichlids, which I'm aware are semi-aggressive... His response was, "none of these, you won't be able to put anything else in the tank"... so my 125 gallon can only house two fish? Asking a few more questions and getting little response or information, I left feeling defeated. The next weekend, I decided, that answer didn't suit me. There has to be a way to do this... So instead of venturing back to the rt. 14 location, I drove fifteen minutes out of my way to speak to someone else. Deb. We walked in and were immediately greeted by a bubbly, smiling, older woman in the fish department. I told her the same information and she confidently said... "it'll be tough, and I can't guarantee the outcome, but... Let's get you some quick swimmers, I'm sure they'll do great." As she was getting the bag ready, she gleefully showed us the eggs a tank next to us had living in it. She "scolded" the fish for breaking the rules, but seemed very happy about the outcome. Deb helped us pick out five dinos, but had to pass us off bc someone was impatiently calling for her. It's not often you see someone so pleased with their job, but you could tell she seemed happy doing what she loved. Thank you, Deb. Oh... And Deb, if you read this, after three weeks, the five fish are swimming strong and I've had no issues with the cichlids attacking them... Even the "hurt" guy you gave me is doing well, so again... Standard Petsmart, but smaller. Surprisingly, in a rural area, there's no horse bridling or equipment here. One would need to drive to Gurnee for that, or the Farm and Fleet in Woodstock. Petsmarts everywhere are expensive, and this one is in line with that formula. In short, nothing special here but nothing bad. in response to a rev just recently left by Morgan W. im the jordan in question. i find it incredibly disheartening to see that not only would you leave a negative review but you would also falsely portray our interaction. i walked up to you and calmly told you that the organization who the cats in question belong too do not like people having their dogs by them as they can be reactive/ stressed by the encounter, i ask you to please move your dog, to which you agree. i continue walking away to continue with my job duties, im maybe 10-15ft away from you at which point you loudly and sternly tell me to get away from your dog. i look back in surprise because not only did i not think you were talking to me but i also was no where near your dog at that moment. i turn back and say "what?" in confusion to which you once again aggressively tell me to get away from your dog because he is reactive(your words) i tell you that theres no reason to be rude about it as i was simply doing my job and was walking away from you to begin with, to which you rudely try to dismiss me and smugly tell me to leave. i admit not only to you but also to my supervisors that i did indeed say "what the F is wrong with you" now i know i shouldn't have said this, in the moment i was upset and that is no way to talk to a customer after which i say "whatever i dont care" and walk away to continue doing my job. and then a few minutes later your mother corners me by our fish wall asking what happened. i tell her exactly what went down and that you spoke to me very rudely for no reason, she informs me that your dog is uncomfortable around men which is reasonable and understandable. before she herself walks away. a few minutes later as im talking to my coworker, you and your family reenter the store and ask me for my name to which i give immediately and before you walk out to leave i ask if you would like to talk to my manager right now, to which you say yes, so i radio for them to come and talk with you. you have had bad interactions with some of my other co-workers in the past with being rude and blunt. if your dog is so reactive that he is unable to be around men and other animals than maybe bringing him inside of a petstore isnt the greatest idea. please dont misrepresent our story and take it out on my store. read more

We've been taking our rescue beagle-mix to this PetSmart since the day we picked him up at Helping Paws 12 years ago. He loves it, except for the grooming. The store is well laid out, clean, well lit and checkout is always fast. We do take him there for grooming and, except for one time, been very happy with the results and the attitude of the staff. That one time we felt the job was rushed and didn't adequately clean him, but we complained to the manager after arriving home. Since then every grooming has been great. read more

Just got crickets from Petsmart in mchenry. I asked for 90 large crickets for my 4 bearded dragons. The pet care associate swore there were 90 crickets in the bag but I counted differently. We brought our puppy here for a new harness and toys an couple of weeks ago. A young woman who was working the checkout greater us and since it was slow left the check out and fitted our dog for the right harness, came up with some good toy ideas. She wasn't trying to get us to buy a bunch of stuff (it her pet stores do that) this young woman also has a puppy and asked us several questions to see if there was a need first, then came up with a several solutions with different price range options. To the manager of this PetSmart. I will update this post and put her name. Until then she was a young, blondish, small build, has a young dog at home herself. She needs to train the rest of your staff. I spent way more money than I planned but my wife, myself and my puppy all left happy! read more

PetSmart Grooming Salon in Mchenry, IL is extremely unprofessional. They do not complete the service you ask for. I asked for my dog to get a bath, brush, and trim around his belly/butt. They did not trim him at all. I called the next day to ask why they did not do his haircut and they claimed he "moved around too much" and they couldn't cut him. What? Of course he moved, he's a 1 year old puppy!!! Instead of letting me know at pick-up time that they had trouble trimming him, they just let me leave hoping I wouldn't notice. They said I could bring him back in and they would try to trim him again but they might not be able to get it done. I told them I will never be going back. Stay away from their grooming place. read more

I like petsmart, it's a wonderful store, and there is the wonderful blond lady that works there that is always kind and helpful. She is always gentle with getting the fish that I buy to stock my tank with. Very knowledgeable as well. Unfortunately, I have had 2 bad experiences at Petsmart as of late. Both times I was shopping for fish to stock my tank. The first time I wanted a few black tetras. A brunette lady named Tracy helped me. She had dropped a fish onto the cart, (where the keep the bags and pour the fish into the bag), which I didn't mind at first, it's easy to put it back into the bag, and everyone makes mistakes. But she did not put the fish back into the bag, she let it fall to the floor and she did not pick up the fish until it was too late. She FINALLY put it back into the tank and it was floating around the tank like it had died. I couldn't bare to look at the poor fishy. The second bad experience I had was also with Tracy. I was buying some goldfish, for a different tank of course, and she had dropped the fish onto the floor once more. The good thing was that gold fish are hearty, and this one did not die, but it was TERRIBLE!!! Like I said, I've always had good experiences here, but the only two times I've been helped by Tracy with fish, she had dropped them on the floor and had not bothered to pick them up until it was too late. read more

Stay far away from this grooming salon. They are the reason I'm having to put my dog to sleep soon. I brought him here faithfully, paid extra to have his nails ground and teeth brushed. I discovered before his next appointment that he had one inner toenail so long, it curled under his toe! Needless to say, he will be put to sleep soon because it turned into a severe infection. They won't take any responsibility at all. If it was painful for my dog, they only had to tell me. But no, they told me everything was perfect, such a good dog. Yeah, thanks. I was a longtime customer because it's convenient and they did a generally okay enough job to not necessitate searching out a new place. NO MORE. My dog is a breed with sensitive skin, so I always get an oatmeal bath to help with the products they use, and I know her usual bather, and he always does an extra-good job rinsing her (unfortunately, he wasn't there this time). My most recent trip in, I paid for the oatmeal bath, a nail trim and grinding, and ears cleaned. She did not get her oatmeal bath. How do I know? For the past two weeks I've been frantically slathering her in anti-itch lotions. This is even after giving her a long warm rinse and condition with tried-and-true conditioner the next day because she was just so itchy. I even had to try tying socks onto her feet to keep her from tearing through her skin, which is a real issue, thanks to that nail job they did. Or didn't do, rather. Maybe half of her nails even saw the grinder. None were trimmed. She is foot-shy, yes, but not much and not at all violently. Just a little twitchy. She weighs less than a bowling ball; a groomer can easily manage to get her to cooperate, especially since she's leashed to the table and can't go anywhere. She was in dire need of a pedicure when she went in, and just as in need when she came out. I've had to do one nail every other night myself because I don't have a fancy table leash with fluorescent overhead lights everywhere and I have to wrestle her into uncomfortable positions in uncomfortable places she doesn't like in order to see her paws. Her report card marked her ears as 'clean" to begin with and said they were cleaned; that night, I found a bunch of wax just from her ear flopping over. Friend assured me up and down the groomer probably just dislodged it in the cleaning. That still sat wrong with me, since that wax should have been cleaned up in my eyes rather than left on her outer ear. I check her ears every other week, and when I'd checked them the week before, they were absolutely fine. Then came the ear infection. She's never had one in her life, but she was shaking her head a little later that night, like there was something in there. A few days later it had blown up into constant ear itching, constant head shaking, whimpering, heat, and inflammation. For those who don't know: ear infections cost a LOT of money to treat. In addition, I was slightly more dissatisfied than normal upon receiving her, since her eyes weren't really cleaned up (she's white, so tearstains really show) and she didn't have the bows that she got every single other time she went there. In addition, she didn't smell nice like she usually does, but that's irrelevant now, because she just smells like stale spit from chewing on her still-slightly-irritated skin. It's lessened enough now that I don't feel the need to cone her, at least. tl;dr: Immediate presentation was highly lacking, services paid for were not completed or very poorly done, no care was put forth. Dog came home with the beginnings of a bad ear infection and an exceptionally bad reaction to product. Not recommended for any dog with sensitive skin or who actually needs to go to the groomer. Might be okay for unconscious labradors just needing a bath. read more

I've been taking my dog to Veronica since he was a puppy. She does a great job grooming him- he always looks good when she's done. She pays attention to his health and tells me if she sees something that may need attention. She's sensitive to his skin sensitivities and overall health and suggests products that may help. Just don't go here. The management is full of childish adults who talk bad about their employees behind their back. People who work hard get little recognition, and people who don't work hard get all sorts of praise. A lot of the employees are more set on getting you to buy the expensive food rather than the actual good food, but they tell you the food is the best in the store. Honestly, you'd be better off going to that pet store on Green Street, and they have less options to work with, but higher quality food. Took my dog in for grooming when they had a 15% discount November 5, 2016. Been here before. The place was crowded. 2 weeks later and my dog has a larger than a grapefruit flesh exposure. Took him to Banfield as it was Sunday. He had fleas! My cat a month earlier at her appointment showed no fleas. And my cat today had no fleas, she was treated last night but there would be evidence. An expensive visit and under duress signed a contract with them before they treated my dog. When I called I was informed that all the pets are examined before groomed for fleas, so if my dog had fleas, they didn't inform me. He didn't he caught them there. Avoid their grooming at all cost. I took my 4 yr old Westie to be groomed since they have Westies in their commercials and pics all over the store. I was specific about what I wanted and showed them the picture. Yet he has razor burns on both sides of his neck, his nails have rough sharp edges, and his hair is trimmed unevenly around his ears and does not have the full Westie face. Michelle was the groomer and I spoke to her regarding this and she said his neck was that way since he has a colic, yet it is only on the one side and both sides of his neck have junks of hair taken off. I always et the one of the staff to bag them because I get so many they are always nice to me and if no one is there to get them for me I just go to check out and they get someone right away. Whenever I bring one of my dogs with me, you can see the love of animals that the staff have. I also love the prices there. This is for the grooming section, They used to be great a couple years ago but ever since the grooming section staff changed this year, it has gone down hill. My dog gets hurt constantly, the girls are standing around texting, and they constantly forget to clip 2 or more nails on my dog! Never again will I take her there again. When asked questions they have not idea what they are doing. They somehow combined my account with another customer and every 3 weeks I tell them to fix it and it never gets done! I bought a frog for my daughter. It died during the time allowed to replace it for free. My husband and I spoke with "Deb" at the McHenry store, showed her the receipt and the dead frog as per their policy. Our receipt was expired. Unaware that the receipt had expired by 7 day's, we asked for an exception to their policy. Deb and the manager "Ann" refused to make an exception to replace the dead frog for our daughter. Deb and Ann were set on policy and could not see past it. We purchased the frog from another location and Deb told me that I needed to go back to that location and get my refund. I know this is not true with most corporate businesses. No one from a corporation with stores located around the world,has ever told me, because I bought something at "A" I can't return it to "B". Most well trained employee's with good judgment know that your business is worth the exception. Because of the economy today and our repeat business, they both would have been very wise to not upset us and make the $2.99 exception. Our family shopped at the McHenry location at least 2 times a month. Spending anywhere around $50.00 per visit. and we have never asked for an exception before. (grooming) I have been taking our dog to Mchenry for several years yes sometimes its not exactly what I wanted but this last time is my dogs last time there after what I witnessed, I got to the store so they wouldn't have to call me besides I needed to pick up a few things, so I was done shopping and was near the window to see my dog getting final touches when she went to his ears she was tugging so hard that he yelped three to four times! now I fully understand that if the hair is matted there has to be some work to get thru it but this was tough to watch his head was jerking down with every tug she did and he kept yelping also I had asked that they use a harness instead of a collar due to his trache getting weak (he is 12) and he gags on a collar well no harness and she was pulling up on it so she could see his head you could see he wanted out of there I felt so bad for him he looked at me afterward like why did I do that to him. well no more I am looking for a new place. don't get me wrong the store is nice people are friendly but grooming no more! just no compassion for there subjects they are working on. read more
