Madison east side pet smart I am not familiar with any other dog groomers in the area, so I decided to take my dog to pet smart. WHAT A MISTAKE. I know that pet smart has been known to kill animals during the grooming process in the past ( https://www.peta.org/blog/animals-injured-and-killed-at-petsmart-and-petco/ ), so I figured that I if I had to bring him there, I would just stay and watch my dog get his haircut. Ensure his safety. Of course they don't want to put chairs out for people to sit and wait, because they don't want to encourage people to stay while their dog gets their hair cut. This was my dogs first time in a place like this, to get his haircut. I used to cut him myself, in the past, but I've been in and out of the hospital and can't sit in one place for a long time to cut him now. Today our groomer was not very friendly when we got there and sometimes she wasn't that gentle with my dogs face either. She would hold the hair on the dogs chin very tight, to make them hold still or to turn their head (which was making my dog be aggressive...and he is NOT an aggressive dog - I have a photo of it. When we first got there, I told the groomer that my dog doesn't really need a bath, but she said it will help get the tangles out. So I agreed. She then proceeded to go to the haircut table and cut most of my dogs hair (in a crappy way) and THEN she went and gave him a bath. So long for the shampoo detangling before getting the hair cut. I was really trying to avoid more stress on my dog. The groomer then put my dog in a kennel while she got another dog out of a different kennel. She then cut the other dogs hair. I was unaware that my dog was going to be waiting inside a kennel during the allotted time of my dogs appointment. My dog has never been in a kennel before, so this totally stressed my dog out. I asked if I could just hold him instead of him being in a kennel. I was told that they couldn't do that. Liability reasons. Um, it's my dog. She also said that they have it written on their website that it could take 3-4 hours. I did not have an issue how long it was going to take...I had an issue that my dog is sitting in a kennel during HIS appointment. And now you are refusing me to hold my dog. This frustrated me, but I did not offend anyone or raise my voice...I just questioned basically why they don't care that my dog is stressed out. It was well over an hour of my dog being in a kennel and my dog was barking like he never had before. I went and asked again, to hold my dog while he waits for his turn. Again, I was willing to be there for 3 to 4 hours without a problem. It's just that he was in a bad stressed out situation and they really just didn't care about the safety of my dog. We had the whole conversation as to 'why I can't hold my own stressed out dog'. All of a sudden, the groomer that was supposed to finish the job (he still needs her to cut his face, feet, and do his teeth) (our groomer is the only person that I didn't even say anything to) says that she is uncomfortable and won't finish my dog. WHAT? I didn't even say one word to her...I only had the conversation with a different groomer. This is crazy. So we get a manager in there. The groomer that I was talking to the whole time gave her version of the story. I had to ask if I could tell my side. The manager gave me a look like she did not want to hear what I had to say but she did listen. After being told that I can come back on another day to get my dogs haircut completed, I finally said a few things that were not appropriate (they weren't horrible) but at that point I got kicked out for asking questions, so I was not happy. All of them acted like I was being irate because I have a horse voice and I have to project my voice for my words to be heard. I even tried to explain that to them, that I was not yelling. PLEASE READ: THESE PEOPLE THROW LIVE ANIMALS AWAY My partner and I just went to this PetSmart to get a new toy for our bird. We quickly noticed a parakeet had its neck caught in a toy and it was struggling. We got an employee to help it out, and the employee's response was to THROW THE TOY AND BIRD AWAY. SHE THREW A LIVING BIRD IN THE GARBAGE IN FRONT OF ME AND WALKED AWAY. We confronted her and she assured us the bird was okay and that it was already back in the cage. We talked to another employee about it, and the second person told us they had already counted the birds and that they were all okay and back in the cage. We asked if we could have the manager show us the toy in the garbage (which was behind the locked door that leads to the back of the cages) just to put our minds at ease, and the manager reluctantly agreed. After three employees lying to us about all this, when she showed us the garbage can, THE BIRD WAS IN THE BOTTOM, SCREAMING BECAUSE THE TOY WAS STILL STRANGLING IT. The manager claimed it must have been a mistake, but that's absolute BS. How do you mistakenly throw away a bird that's screaming, flapping and biting?!?! Please do not give these people your money. We still go here for all of our pets, primarily for food and the clearance toys and treats. The markup is otherwise high on new products. Blue Buffalo Wilderness, however, is within a dollar or two in price as compared to online retailers. Plus the staff is always friendly to us and our hound dog! Pretty decent location, but I'm biased because I live like three streets over. I always take my dogs here for them to get out and socialize. I feel like for the most part, this location has the essentials and whatever you need. I do think this one lacks variety. I've been looking for a really durable non-stringy-rope toy to play tug of war with my 9 month old puppy, who destroys and eats everything. There really only were a few that I could choose from. I called the west side Petsmart to ask what medicine to give my Betta Fish that had raised scales, loss of color and a swollen body. I told her the raised scales on a Betta are sometimes referred to as, "porcupining". She proceeded to tell me she had absolutely no idea what I was talking about or referring to, when it came to raised scales on a Betta Fish and had never seen or heard of a symptom like it. I asked if there was someone else I could ask and she said no because she is the Manager!! F- !!!!!!! I need a negative rating for the groomers. I am EXTREMELY HORRIFIED from what the groomers did to my three gorgeous poodles (2 standards and 1 tiny toy). Neglect and complete lack of knowledge are displayed. We set clear expectations and requested that they leave their thick and long ears as they were if they could not remove the mats they get from playing with each other. We left in the morning confident that they would be stunning and fluffy when we returned. Instead we left with a hot mess that will take years to grow back. THEY SHAVED THEIR HEADS. They now have big, long and fluffy years and completely shaved bodies. I was not contacted at all to get the chance to tell them to NOT TOUCH THEM! I have been grooming them since they were puppies. I have been ill and unable to give them baths or detailed cuts. So I took them here. Worst grooming I have ever, ever, ever seen in my 50 years of poodle and collie ownership. I am heartbroken! How could a professional shave a poodles head! I love my girls more each day. This will not ever change no matter what. Even when they resemble Bozo they are beautiful to me. I noticed a friend's dog had his whiskers cut. Knowing dogs should NOT get their whiskers cut, I asked why Calvin (the dog) had no whiskers. My friend said she took him to Petsmart and that's how they groomed him. Is it not common knowledge to NOT cut an animals whiskers?! Animals use their whisker to orient and as an extension of their senses. This is really disappointing to hear that an animal store doesn't have the basic knowledge. read more

I can't be sure it was their staff, but there would be no other reason as to why we would be in this condition before this appointment. We don't usually frequent Petsmart but had to use a gift card here because unlike other modern companies, they don't accept gift cards as a form of payment online. I like that they offer puppy classes in the store, albeit distracting for the pup, but hey that's kind of the purpose of the class right? They also have a cat adoption center/area in the store. I didn't see any staff manning the area so I can't speak for how much attention these homeless pets get. Maybe it's run through another organization, that I'm not sure. Check out is brutal. There are 4 registers, but only 2 staffed. I kick myself because I still had a balance on my GC so went back to grab another toy and one of the two only open cash register closed. Large, clean, and their adoption center featured animals from the Humane Society instead of a puppy mill. Prices seemed to be on the slightly high side, but then again pet stuff doesn't ever seem to be cheap. I got a rat chew toy and a fancy dog cookie as gifts for friends for about $3 each. The small animal cages (hamsters, etc.) looked to be clean and the animals had toys and hides. The adoption center had three cats - two in one cage that were related and another in a separate cage. Both offered little shelters for the cats to hide in if they were tired of the parade of people. The two related cats, Queso and Tamale, were beautiful grey short hairs and I really, really wanted to take them home - I hope someone who can, does. PetSmart was also offering a dog training class with a youngish employee walking a dog around the store with a customer and her dog in tow; the employee's dog was a good model and it was funny watching the trainee dog want to sniff everything. They were the same breed so it was a bit of a before and after advertisement in real life. Lines move slow if anyone is registering for something at the register (maybe a rewards card?) but otherwise not too bad. You can watch dogs being groomed while you wait. read more

We've been here a few times for various pet supplies when we are in the area or Mounds is closed. They do not carry the dog food we use (Eagle Pack), but have most of the main brands, and a good selection of grooming tools. We bought our kong zoom groom here by request of one of the helpful staff and love it for our lab/am.bulldog mix. We took our dog to get a professional bath, nail clipping and ear cleaning by the groomers here and were satisfied. It was our first time not doing it ourselves. Our dog came out with shorter nails, loose hair gone, and smelled nice. Not sure how they do on other grooming aspects as our dog is pretty low-maintenance in that department. There were about 6 groomers working there at once, and the girl who took down our information seemed clueless, but the others seemed great. read more

We took our dog to PetSmart for grooming 4 years ago for his first haircut. We really went there because we didn't know where else to go. I didn't feel comfortable taking him to a complete stranger working out of their home, the grooming services at our vet clinic were much too pricy, etc. I liked the idea that I could watch our dog's grooming if we felt so inclined, how could they possibly treat our dog poorly if we're watching? Yes, my irrational fears include my dog being mistreated by a groomer. We of course went for the Top Dog package which includes, "special" conditioner, nail trimming, and teeth brusing. I have to say, we were so pleased with the outcome, we've been going there ever since. One time our pup came home with a chunk of hair missing from his side. The groomer was unapologetic and didn't explain how it happened. Another time they left the hair above his eyes a little longer than we like. Overall, he comes home looking clean cut and adorable every time. We really couldn't be more pleased with PetSmart grooming, we've found no reason to go elsewhere. read more

We took beginner dog training classes with Ashley - and they were fantastic. Ashley is an extremely effective trainer who has tremendous enthusiasm for her job. She loves the dogs in her classes - and we always enjoyed her upbeat, energetic attitude. The techniques she taught us were extremely effective. Our dog (1 year old) began responding after only one class. After the 6 week session, our dog is much better behaved, performs several tricks, and comes when called. We highly recommend taking classes with Ashley. She's awesome! read more

LAZY groomers!!!!! We took our puppy to this Petsmart to have her first grooming. We requested and were charged about $45.00 for a full grooming. When we picked her up over 4 hours later, we were told, "she was too fussy to get her body groomed, so we just did her face, paws and hind area". This being our first encounter with dog groomers (we're new pet owners) we figured this was par for the course - she'll be better next time. About 5 weeks later we took her back and again requested a full grooming. This time, we also brought photos of how we wanted her face to be trimmed. Somehow the unpleasant attendant convinced us into some sort of additional "special" shampoo/conditioning package. Another 4 hours later, we returned to pick her up and we were again told that she was too fussy to have her body trimmed and all they did was her paws, hind area and her face. Despite the fact that we brought a photo of the exact same breed of dog - same age, same size, even same fur color, our beautiful puppy looked as if her face had been trimmed by a two year old with a pari of dull kiddy scissors. This time we were charged $57.00. Today, we brought her to Rufus DuMonde and discovered what a REAL groomer can and will do. Not only did they do a beautiful job on her face (referencing the same photo we had taken to Petsmart), they gave her entire body a trim. We were told she wasn't fussy at all and that she was very interested in everything that was going on during her grooming session. Her session was only 2 and a half hours and the cost was only $42.00 (we tipped them $20.00 because we were so happy with their work). Suffice to say, this was a real eye-opening experience for us. This Petsmart grooming department is horrible and we'll NEVER take our puppy back there. In fact, we'll never go back to any Petsmart again. BE WARNED. read more

We ordered two bags of dog chews today on the phone, for curbside pick--up as advertised on the PetSmart website, for safety from Covid-19. When I got there to pick up our order, I phoned their #, told him the name on the order and what was in the order. Now the idea of curbside pickup is him staying 6 feet away from me. When he came out, he asked for my ID. How was he going to be 6 feet away and look at my ID??? I told him that I was picking up the order, not the person who placed the order. He refused to give me the bag of dog chews, because hey, I might be stealing them from the person who had paid for them. He also said that if I didn't drive across town to get the right ID, I couldn't just cancel the order because I had to come into the store with original credit card to process a return. This makes no sense. How does this keep my family safe from the corona virus??????? No posting about or warning about showing an ID to pick up the order, him close enough to me to take an id or read it, and if we wanted to cancel, we have to go inside the store to do it, which is what this whole curbside pickup was supposed to be avoiding. PetSmart was an all around complete failure on this. They are not refunding our $$$ and we are not going into the store and putting our health at risk. That was the whole point of ordering by phone and curbside pickup. What an agressive rip off. I was very happy with my Petsmart experience. I wanted to buy a pet for my (highly allergic)boyfriend as a birthday present. After much deliberation and about a zillion questions, we(the Petsmart girl and I) decided that a tortoise would be a perfect match--unlike the turtle that I had originally considered. In the four or five trips made to do research and buy the supplies for his "tortoise condo" we created, I found that three of the employees we talked to were very knowledgeable on the subject. They were super helpful and patient with us. I also went to another local pet store twice, it seemed pretty ghetto and no one even approached me to ask if I needed help! Although the staff was very nice at the grooming salon, I will not be taking my beagle poodle mix there again. They told us it would take 2 hours for our puppy's first visit for a nail cut, foot trim, and face trim, but that we would get a text when they finished. We did not get a texted and showed up right at two hours. When we arrived, the staff did not know which dog was ours, and then told us that our puppy (4 months old) had been done for a long time! I felt so bad that our puppy was locked up for longer than she needed to be. read more

Selection of items for large birds is almost non-existent, reptiles are housed together, when everything out there tells you they shouldn't be. Bearded dragons missing legs, toes, feet and tails because there is like 20 of them in one enclosure. Watch out for their crickets....they carry illnesses that can be passed to your pet. Fish dept...eh nothing spectacular, quite a few dead ones floating. read more

I couldn't get them to sell me koi yesterday. My fiancee and I looked at the koi, decided which ones we wanted while the clerk helped someone else. Then she left. We waited 5-10 minutes, and another customer arrived to wait. I went and found someone else who said they couldn't sell me fish, but would send someone who could help me. The original clerk came back about 5 minutes later, and proceeded to help the customer who showed up after me, and then some people who arrived after that. Oh well. We only have a Frenchie, a Siamese, and a decent size koi pond, so it's not like we're actual pet owners they could have made money from. :-l read more

The grooming services were poor. Our dogs ended up with an uneven shave, long hairs in some spots and a really short shave on the back of the legs. I would not recommend this place for dog grooming. Save your money and look elsewhere. read more

Thank you to Erin the manager. She fit our dog for a harness 10 min before they closed. She was willing to help us even when she was could have let us struggle on our own. We shop there often and appreciate their help every time and that they let pit bull rescues do adoption days there. read more
