What a wonderful store for your first babies! I spoke with a lovely woman named Noel and she was so helpful! I am so sad that I have lived here for almost 13 yrs and never saw this store. But now that we have a puppy I am more aware and will shop here for all things puppy!! If you have friends that have dogs and want to get them gifts, this is your place. They have interactive toys and fresh food and also cupcakes for dogs. Just about anything you can think of ! Please go to this wonderful, locally owned business read more

I adore this store and the women in who work here. They are incredibly smart and professional as can be. They have incredible products that I really appreciate especially in a pet store. My cat is a lot healthier because of the help they've given me. The atmosphere is always positive and friendly. I'm so appreciative that they are in this neighborhood. read more

Excellent little shop. Very inviting and welcoming. For being such a small shop, it is one of the better pet stores in Madison! From food to treats and toys it has everything you need for your fur baby :-) Every time I go, I wish I had brought my dog, so she could pick out her own toys! The prices are a tad on the high side, but offers a great selection and there is plenty for almost any price point. Parking is primarily street parking. There are a couple of small parking lots near by, but expect street parking. read more

By far the best pet store in Madison. The staff always remember our dog Hank. They offer a great selection of items, and are priced equal to or less than stores like Animart or Petsmart. They also offer a fantastic loyalty program. If you just adopted from a shelter or rescue they offer a program that provides all sorts of goodies, all for free! read more

This is a keeper ! One of the few dog stores that carry a variety of Martingale Collars in small to xl, it was so awesome to be able to buy fur baby's new collars. And we ordered tags through the friendliest staff who were so patient with us as we changed which tags and colors we wanted.Thank You! We promptly received the confirmation email let us know the tag order was received. We went to Bad Dog Frida today with an idea of what we wanted, but not specifics, so we planned to look around the store. Instead, they met us at the door and took our order outside. Their service was excellent - they had enough staff that each person who came to shop was helped as they arrived, spaced apart on the sidewalk, and it moved along well. Our salesperson was so helpful and brought out options for us to peruse. We weren't sure what size to pick for a sweater for our Shiba Inu Suki (atypically-shaped dog body types raise your paws!) so she brought out a medium and large. We went with large (see pics). They sell all our favorite brands and had lots of holiday-themed items available. Our salesperson also gave us generous samples to try of Green Juju products. BDF is of the only places to sell that company's products in the area and we've heard great things online. Hopefully, Suki will love the taste but if not, we didn't shell out a lot of money to try it. I really appreciated that. They also were holding a raffle and had the table set up nicely. It was clear they thought ahead of how to keep things safe, like having one jar for unused pens and another for used pens when filling out the tickets. It was free to enter! We felt safe, and appreciated by the employees for shopping locally. They mentioned they'll be changing their hours - closed Sunday to Monday I think? - to accommodate having fewer staff currently. They also now have Saturday deliveries! You can order online. read more

Great pet store. I love shopping local as well, so this store is an added bonus! They have a variety of dog toys and treats and walk accessories. They also have lots of apparel for dogs! There are a ton of cat toys and treats as well. They're extra nice to my dog, even though she is a little bit of a brat! She got lots of treats and lots of love. They gave great advice about chew toys that she may enjoy. I love that they have natural products too. read more

Very welcoming! Does feel like an upper class kind of pet store. Had sample of treats; which I love since my puppy is rather picky! Only downside is some prices are a bit high and very very small store. If In the area will def visit again. Ps- I don't think there is a customer restroom? But I may wrong. read more

The best dog food store in town! Bad Dog Frida has offered curbside pick up and will also put your items in the back of your car during Covid. I stopped in looking for a specific kind of canned cat food. They didn't have it, so I read the labels of every other kind they do have. I prefer to avoid gums like carageenan and xanthan gum, etc., but every brand has it. Sigh. Not their fault. They offered help gently several times, which, being a bit annoyed by the above, I didn't initially accept. But then I relented, and we discussed what I was specifically looking for, and what I was avoiding. They listened, and suggested dehydrated cat food which is reconstituted by adding water. Most of the issues were avoided this way. I'd never even heard of that type of cat food before, so I was happy to learn about it. They sent me off with two samples to let my cat try out, and let me know when they would have it in stock. I had a similar experience months ago while looking for specific needs food for my daughter's dog. We found the perfect one, and she actually ended up switching him to that food based on that shopping trip and discussion. I highly recommend Bad Dog Frida. It's a charming little shop and they couldn't be more patient and helpful with fussy pet owners :-) read more

Good and plentiful selections of toys, accessories and treats. Not a lot of help from the sales staff with suggestions of purchases, but since I did drop $130, maybe she thought that was my limit? My friend who was with me did get free samples for her cat, I think. So, that was cool they were handing stuff like that out. For what I purchased, it did seem extravagant, but everything seemed to be good quality brands. They had the collar I was looking for (the one made from recycled bike tires with a bottle opener attached) so that was fun. All in all I enjoyed my experience and will be back. read more

This place was absolutely amazing! We were visiting the Madison area and decided to stop in with our pup. She was immediately greeted with love and treats! We ended up buying a new harness (they helped us fit her right there at the store!) and some special treats. She was treated like royalty and loved every moment. I couldn't recommend this place enough. The staff was incredible and their products were unique! Absolutely amazing experience! read more

Great local pet store! They gave my puppy a treat right when we came in and let him try out different toys in store. (He is a mooch and they were very sweet, so he probably had a few extra treats...) Very friendly staff, clearly animal lovers. Lots of options for treats, food, and toys for dogs and for cats. The stuff they sell is a bit pricy, which is kind of to be expected with this kind of specialty store. The treats and toys certainly seem like great quality though. We haven't bought dog food yet, so I'm not sure how those prices compare. They also have a rewards program. read more

Romy, my border collie mix, is far from a bad dog. In fact, I hear the statement "Good boy" leave my lips a gazillion times a day, followed by a belly rub and a t-r-e-a-t (had to spell it out in fear he'd know what I was talking about.. Collies are smart that way). Although he listens and behaves much like a well mannered lad at home and even off his leash, it's quite surprising that walks with Romy are nothing short of a handful. Now I don't mind getting dirty, but I don't care much for getting dragged through the mud by a dog that can't contain his excitement when he sees a squirrel, a car passing by, or smells another dogs piss in the distance. This constant tug of war has been an ongoing issue, and yet I excused it due to his young age and that soon, with continued walks, he would settle. I'd begun to think I was mistaken. That is until I came to Bad Dog Frida. It's kind of funny that a pet store could hold the answer for nixing my dog's behavior, but it's legit. We spoke with such a friendly, energetic and informed staff member. By the looks of other reviews, perhaps she was an owner. Anyhow, she suggested a few specialty leashes for the wandering dog. And she went into great detail about all of them. We ended up purchasing the Gentle Leader with the promise that we could return it no questions asked. That promise need not be fulfilled seeing as my pup has already taken to the leash and I have seen such a huge difference in his walking already. There is so much more to Bad Dog Frida: treats, healthy food at competitive prices, toys, SMART toys, herbs, and even kitty cat essentials. They even strongly encourage you to bring your dog to shop along with you. So nice. read more

I can't stop raving about this shop. As a guy, I catch a little heat for talking about the perfect shop for all things dog - If you're picturing me with a Pomeranian, you're way off the mark... I have a lab and a hound. They have cat things but I'm allergic to the evil creatures so I don't venture much into that section of the shop. They carry great brands and great products and awesome food. If they don't have what you want, they'll look into providing it for you which makes going to the pet superstores unnecessary. And if you're worried about the cost - supporting small businesses isn't always at the top of everyone's agenda - they have a great rewards system! If anything, go for Sue and Carmen. They are incredibly knowledgeable. They stand behind their products because they sell awesome things. And they care about their customers and their dogs. I've only brought mine in once and every time I go in there they always recognize me and ask me how they're doing. read more

I love this store! I just adopted a dog recently and I took her here after a vet visit to get her some well-deserved toys and treats. The staff is super friendly and welcoming, and they will spoil your dog with treats (with your permission, of course). They were really helpful in finding my dog some toys she was interested in and making some useful recommendations about what they thought she would like. They even have some floor model toys for your dog to try out. The treat selection was great; lots of organic and grain-free treats and pet food to choose from. They also have a loyalty program where you get $10 back for every $150 you spend. In addition to treats and toys, they also have collars, leashes, and other pet accessories. I would definitely head back here to pick up more dog stuff! read more

Super friendly and accommodating staff. I got the good vibes. I normally just feel like people who sell pet stuff are in sales, rather than being animal lovers themselves, but I got that here at Bad Dog Frida. Cute shop too! read more

Bad Dog Frida packs a surprising amount into what looks like a small shop - you will definitely be able to find most of the things you need for your dog, and it will come with very kind service! I have a really nervous dog, so I wasn't sure how he would do going into this store. It is a small space, and there are a lot of dogs and people that come in and out. When we got here on Saturday morning, there was one other person in the store and no other pets. I let the shop employee know right away that my dog is nervous with strangers, and she did all the right things to help him become more comfortable, like tossing treats to him from afar, and not approaching him or making eye contact. By the end of our visit, he was comfortable enough that he took a treat directly from her and let her pet him, which is a big deal for my dog! She was super helpful in helping us find the winter gear we were looking for, and even opened packages so we could try things on. Anytime a new customer came in, she immediately let them know my dog was nervous so that we didn't have to worry about people unexpectedly approaching us, which was so appreciated! If you have a nervous dog, it is worth noting that this store does get a lot of traffic and it is a small space. Also be aware that they do a lot of events - I will always be sure to check before we go because I don't think my dog could handle that kind of traffic quite yet! But if you go at a less busy time, you will find a great selection of stuff and employees who are eager to help you and your dog in a way that is sensitive to your dog's needs! We go to a lot of different pet stores in Madison to help work on my dog's socialization, and Bad Dog Frida has one of the best selections of winter gear for keeping small or short-haired dogs warm enough through Wisconsin winters! We got a fleece sweater that my dog has already gotten a lot of use out of (and a lot of compliments on!) and a snood for when things really freeze over here! read more

I was visiting my daughter in Madison from Tucson, ARizona, and she took me to Bad Dog Freida. I loved the place and so wish they took orders on line. My dog Patsy loved the freeze dry chicken heart treats. The identification tag I bought arrived so quickly. I so appreciate going to this store rather than to a big chain where they never stop emailing me. The dog toys were challenging and different from those available anywhere. Great experience. read more

This shop is a treasure. Beautifully curated selection and very personable, knowledgeable service. They hold great events here and donate to local dog shelters. My dogs and me love this place. read more

So much love in this store. I have very special, diva-liscious dogs that require a lot of thought; from dog anxiety, to bladder infections, to getting bored very easily. I frequent many dog stores just to keep up with the newest thing that would make life with these two 80-lb dogs easier. I walked into this store and they not only went over all of the different functions of behavior (medical, behavioral...) but thought out possible treatments with me. I ended up purchasing a new chest harness for our ridgeback and it has helped a lot. They also have a fun selection of accessories, holistic health options and gift ideas. I ended up getting a print of a ridgeback, a breed that is pretty rare! My only downside is that all of the products add up in price. They are comparable to other dog boutiques and close to the prices of the chain stores, but has much more variety in styles and options. read more

Probably my favorite local pet store I've been to in the city so far. I stopped in after having lunch across the street, because whenever I see a pet store I have to go in, even if it's "just to look" (let's be honest I always leave with at least a container of treats). The store is a little small, so its selection of everything seems a bit limited, but the things they do offer are very good quality. Healthy food and treats, some nice little odds and ends for us human types, and some toys and beds as well. They latter two were a bit out of my price range, but still really quality stuff. The store is modern and clean and the lady behind the counter was very personable. Maybe a little pushy on her very expensive 'brain training' toys, but out of curiosity I was lingering around them, so I can't really blame her. She was SUPER nice at checkout. I work at a Daycare/Boarding facility in the area, and we ended up chatting about the time her dog (now passed =[) spent there. She offered me a free magnet for my car and said if any employee spots it on my car as I'm out and about in Madison, they'll leave a $10 gift card as a thank-you for the support. Been about 6 months, and I haven't won that little lotto, but it costs me nothing to try, so why not? They also support local rescue by selling tennis balls donated by the high school tennis team, some icing on the cake! Overall, nice things for sale in a nice shop, owned by a nice person. read more

I've been very impressed with each visit to Bad Dog Frida. The staff has been helpful, answering questions about a ton of different products and they know it all. They showed a real interest in our new dog and gave lots of great advice. They are priced competitively, better than most other places I've been to in Madison, for food, treats, toys, and the rest of the dog essentials, which even if they weren't I'd still shop here for how amazing the staff and shop is. Really phenomenal place, worth any pet owner's business! read more

Fantastic pet supplies. Extremely knowledgeable and friendly staff. We enjoyed our first visit and look forward to going back!

Bad Dog Frida is an excellent store for dog owners who are willing and able to provide their dogs with the very best in food, treats and toys. The store owners, Carmen and Sue, are extremely helpful to their customers, not to mention quite knowledgeable about dog nutrition and holistic health. Before I rescued my puppy and when he was young, they put up with my endless stream of inane fretful-mommy questions and had excellent answers for all of them. In fact, Carmen and Sue have a large pack of rescued dogs of their own -- some of whom you might meet at the store! Bad Dog Frida carries lots of really interesting and durable dog toys (including really excellent puzzle toys for mental stimulation); a good selection of high quality dog food (including pre-made raw) and treats with NO crappy doggie junk food; some holistic health products such as probiotics and tooth paste; well-made collars and leashes; a small but carefully-selected collection of books; and, for the humans, clothes, accessories and art. They also have a small selection of cat toys, treats, food and collars. Carmen and Sue are always on the lookout for great new toys, treats and ideas, and they're very particular about what they'll carry -- only the highest quality food and goods. Carmen once told me that she sent a batch of Stella and Chewy's raw food back to the manufacturer because it didn't look quite right -- as if it may have thawed a bit on the truck. Now that is what I call commitment to your customers. The store itself is bright, clean and just fun to be in and browse. It's very clear that the owners of Bad Dog Frida are committed to the "whole dog" AND the owner, even aside from the fact that they only offer the best products. They support local dog rescue, host seminars and work shops about important dog-related topics, and put together social events such as the monthly "Coffee Hound Hour." They also have a great customer appreciation program where you can earn in-store credit for the money you spend. It's clear that they take the time to get to know their customers (human and canine alike) and offer a very personalized shopping experience. Bad Dog Frida is the kind of local establishment I absolutely LOVE to patronize. You might pay a bit more than you would at the likes of Petsmart or Mounds, but Bad Dog Frida MORE THAN makes up for it in quality, good advice and shopping experience. Sue and Carmen are two amazing women whose love "for good dogs and their people" shines through in every aspect of what they do! I'd give this awesome store six stars if I could. read more

Stopped in here by accident yesterday-- what a great shop. I'm not sure which owner we met but she was great-- helpful without being overwhelming and really appreciative of our business. She wound up recommending a product by Pal Dog, which is made from all natural oils and is also good for humans! She herself rescues dogs and it's very clear that she cares deeply about pets. They do carry unique products but it's the personal attention that really makes the difference here. read more

I buy my dog's food and treats here and not just because it's within walking distance of my house. The staff is very friendly here and they are knowledgeable about the products that they carry. Also the prices are very standard. I have compared prices to places like Mounds and even Petsmart and they are the same, plus they have a rewards program which averages out to something like a 7% discount overall if you shop here regularly. That, AND, they are a small local buisness. If you are looking for trustworthy, high quality food and treats for your dog this is a great place to go. read more

What a find! I had an appointment at the U.W. Vet School for my 11 year old dog Annie. Afterwards to celebrate the good news I wanted to treat her to a good afternoon. I did a quick google search for pet boutiques and Bad Dog Frida popped up. I saw it was on the way home and on Atwood. I like that area and new Annie would enjoy an hour walk in the neighborhood until they opened at 11:00. It was worth the wait!! This place was quaint but packed with high end quality treats, foods, toys, and gear!!! I could not stop picking things out for Annie! We bought a Big Shrimpy Cuddle sack, a bag of Bravo raw, macaroons, 2 bags of treats, 2 toys and a Baby Cake peanut butter apple cake. My dogs are my kids and I cannot spoil them enough and Bad Dog Frida makes that possible to do both financially and nutritionally. Everything I purchased in way of foods was grain free, gluten, corn and soy free. We lead a Paleo lifestyle in our home so this is important to us. On top of it all the women who were there were amazingly friendly and helpful. So nice and took a genuine interest in my dog and myself. I will be back tomorrow so that my other dog Oliver can pick out some goodies and so I can spend my $10 reward! Check this place out its an asset to the community and your dogs will thank you more than they already do! read more

We could spend hours in there! They remembered us and both of our dogs after only stopping in one other time. It's a welcoming, and wonderfully comforting dog store. We tell everyone with dogs to stop in because they won't find the service or products anywhere else. **Also, they have the best selection of all natural, grain free, locally made, foods.
