I had a really disappointing experience with PetSmart this week. I originally made an appointment earlier in the week, and they called to reschedule. That was fine. When I brought my dog in, I dropped him off at 3:45 for a 4:00 p.m. appointment, and they told me he'd be done around 7:00. At 6:45, I got a call--not to say he was ready, but to tell me that nothing had been done yet because the groomer had been bitten by another dog. I obviously hope the groomer is okay, but it's unacceptable that it took three hours for anyone to notify me. Even if they were dealing with an emergency, my dog should not have been sitting in a back room for hours with no update. Because of this experience, I won't be returning. read more

Prices are high and selection is mediocre. I give them a few stars for customer service and just for being available when a last-minute item(s) is needed. They offer all kinds of support for pet owners (dog classes, grooming) and a rewards program. But it's frustrating to stop here and not be able to find what I need.. resorting to the online marketplace :( read more

I would leave a negative star review if I could. The groomers here are downright disrespectful not only to their clients but to the pets as well. They made it very evident that they do not care about the wellbeing of our pets whatsoever. I didn't like my previous experience with a certain groomer, so I decided to switch it up for today's appointment and go with someone else remaining optimistic. My puppy was apparently very anxious, barking loudly and scratching away at the kennel... clearly distressed. This isn't like her, but as we say "we are all human" same goes with dogs. They have good days and bad days. I was VERY upset with how my dog had been looked after. I came to pick her up as soon as I received the phone call and not one person greeted me. Very snobby. Then I saw the groomer go back and bitch about my dog (probably not realizing I was there). Regardless, I heard the entire conversation which including yelling at my dog to "pipe down". Not to mention, wearing very big headphones passive aggressively because god forbid my dog fucked up her day. I have never EVER had such a piss poor experience. It's clear these employees at the grooming salon only care about a paycheck. Petsmart should be extremely disappointed for hiring such rude, ignorant people. from other reviews it seems like the manager obviously does not give a shit about beta fish so I'm not sure why my experience was the way it was, but I came to this petsmart to pick up ONE thing and stopped briefly to look at the fish. i took ONE image of a fish because it was the perfect coloring my friend is looking for, hoping to find this fish a home, and was then loudly reprimanded from the registers about 30 feet away. there was a crowd of roughly 5-7 people checking out, and they all turned their heads to look in my direction. This may not sound like a lot but I already have social anxiety, and NOWHERE does it say photos aren't allowed. this single handedly made my shopping experience fucking awful and I spent the rest of the time in the store feeling mortified and like I was being watched closely. if this was an actual concern for 'stress' of the fish, they wouldn't have them in half a fucking dixie cup sized containers. half of them look like they're about to die anyways. next time, the APPROPRIATE thing to do for customer service, as I LITERALLY WORK IN CUSTOMER SERVICE and would NOT do this unless I was maybe dealing with like a 7 year old who didn't understand common sense, may just be going over to the customer and having a QUIET conversation about it instead of barking across like 10 people brining MAJOR attention to it, especially if there's not a fucking sign up that says otherwise. This one star isn't for the store, it's towards the Banfield pet hospital. We had booked an appt for our dog today 6/25 who we adopted last week on Saturday 6/20. Our appt was scheduled for 2p which we arrived to 5 mins late. When my GF got there she called and was told the appt would need to be rescheduled because they had other appts they needed to accommodate since. those arrivals were on time. I could understand being 30 mins or an hr late, but to deny us for being 5 mins late is ridiculous. Long story short, don't waste your time here. We luckily called the Banfield in Glendale and they were able to accommodate us today. The Lakewood Banfield is TRASH. I hope you read this review and try to come up with excuses or put the blame on us. You guys suck. Point. Blank. Period. Will give you a coupon book if you bring in your new pet's adoption paperwork! I get most of my cat's supplies here. They always have a great selection of toys to browse through. The cat harnesses here are very easy to use and secure for the cat, if you've ever wanted to harness train your cat. I come here with my cat occasionally since he prefers it to being in my apartment when it's being vacuumed, and he always enjoys his visits. I've even seen other people shopping with their cats, which is always fun! read more

This place blows. The hours aren't posted clearly and the doors aren't locked, so I walked in at 9:55am and past two different employees. Then another woman approaches and tells me I need to go back out and wait til 10am after I was already half way through the store. We recently got our girl, Clementine, groomed at this location. Clementine is a big girl - she's a Great Pyrenees mix, and she lived on the streets of Texas for 3 years before we found her at a rescue and fell in love. So needless to say, she has a whole lot of fur, and quite the sassy Texas attitude. We took her to Karina for her groom, and she did such a great job! She really took her time with Clementine and we can totally tell. She explained what she did during the groom, and wrote everything down for us in a "Paw-gress Report" (so stinkin' cute). We were really worried that Clementine wasn't going to do too well, as it was her first groom ever and she has quite the attitude - but Karina said she did great! We also interacted a bit with the store manager (I unfortunately didn't catch her name), and she was so sweet and great to talk to. We could tell both Karina and the manager both really care about their customers' pets. I really recommend this location, and Karina the groomer! read more

This place is a mess. Everyone who works there walks around like they are a deer in headlights! I prebooked a Bissell carpet cleaner, when I went in nobody knew how to rent one to me. Then when they got it to me, it was absolutely filthy. The woman who rented it to me gave me a discount since it was so disgusting. Since I'm selling my house I HAD to get the carpets cleaned, so I took it. When I got it home I cleaned it, which took me longer than expected because there was so much hair in it from the people before. I again cleaned the machine before bringing it back the cleaner for 8 hours longer than the agreement. When I walked into the PetSmart, I was ignored for a food 20 mi ties before they found someone who could actually help me check in the machine, then the woman who did tried to tell me she was going to charge me a fee for it being DIRTY!!! Are you KIDDING me?! The machine was CLEAN!! The machine was absolutely Disgusting when I rented it!!! She said "no ma'am, we ALWAYS check the machines and never rent them out dirty!!" - then why did they give me a discount? Then she said "well you're "a day late (8 hours) also so we just keep your deposit." Absolutely RIDICULOUS. STAY AWAY from PETS MART and DO NOT rent machines from here!!! read more

I went in there looking for a specific brand of food and somehow I was sold on buying this terrible dog food that left my dog with diarrhea and vomiting for two days which then led to a trip to the hospital and medication for my dog. As a new dog owner, Right wrong or indifferent, don't sell people on garbage to hit a goal. Be careful when you go in there and do your research beforehand. I wasn't forced to buy the dog food but I certainly trusted the employees there and I shouldn't have so I'll take ownership if that. Only visit this store because it's convenient. Now I order my dog food from Amazon because every time I'm here the lines are out the door even though I make eye contact with several employees. It's honestly ridiculous. Once I came to Yelp and noticed out of 34 reviews, 2.5 stars I was NOT at all surprised. They have had our dog food lately which is awesome and the staff have stepped up their game regarding opening additional lines and not just standing around while customers are building up a huge line. Our Betta fish died due to lack of the manager telling us an important thing to buy a heater to keep the fish warm. We didn't know and with 10 days our beautiful blue Betta fish was dead. My daughter is 11 she cried and it affected me too having to take a dead fish back to the PetSmart. The Lakewood location 160 Wadsworth has terrible service except for the young girl who helped us when we returned the dead fish she was compassionate and sweet. A new cashier refunded us back on a gift card then shortly after when we went to spend the gift card it had $0 on it but about $30 was supposed to be on there. Apparently the cashier that checked us out didn't know how to add it to a gift card . The store as a whole are idiots and the manager needs to taught how to be a manage a store. I'd love to give there grooming department a negative 0. They ruined my Great Pyrenees. First off there was no need to keep her for five hours. Making her wait while you do other cuts. I get her and under her arms are shaved to the skin, same with her private area. Jeremy is the one that groomed my dog and I wouldn't ever let him or anyone else touch my dog again. No wonder it's so cheap. I'll be taking her to a professional next time. It's worth the extra money. Also the traumatized my dog and now she has to wear a shirt. read more

Sooo Unprofessional! Just went in for a nail trim. Tget didnt tell me till after I'd waited for 30mins that they needed proof of her shots. Then (10 mins later) when I provided said proof they acted super annoyed to take her... Did NOTHING to make my scared, timid dog feel comfortable. I wandered in cluelessly about an hour before I picked up my seven week old puppy. This is my first puppy and frankly I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I had a little list so I kept asking for help from one really nice girl who turned out to be the manager. Finally she said "hey listen are you getting a puppy?" I said yes and she immediately got me a puppy coupon book that saved me a ton of money. Plus, she personally showed me around to all the things I needed and made recommendations that were useful. I come in to pet smart all the time for random little things, but the store went to bat for me when I needed to do the big haul. I arrived home with puppy and all the things I needed! I really made a mistake by waiting to do this right before I picked up the puppy, and would recommend you do this the day before at the very latest. Took my dog to get groomed here. I requested very specific detail about leaving an inch of hair. We also specified we did NOT want a poodle cut. When we came to get him, he was buzzed completely down to 3/8 of an inch with a poodle cut! They said it was because he had a knot. I've been to several groomers and usually if they feel a knot, they're able to get it untangled. The groomer was just impatient and lazy. In addition, he is cut so unevenly. A part of his arm wasn't even trimmed. I had to fix some of these places on my own. This was an absolute waste of money. Save your money and do it yourself. I'm sure it would be much better than paying for a horrible job. read more

Dude What the F!!! I usually go to Scales & Tails but I passed it and this was across from Wallyworld. This was my first and last visit here & Never again. I came to purchase sand and maybe a hermit crab. I ended up leaving after seeing baby Ball Pythons that were starving to death. The were so dried out I got incredibly sad and complained. They loooked so bad I thought they were dead. I am talking a leather skinny straw sized neck!!!! The water bowls were moldy and murky and the food was on the edge of molding because it had been in the enclosure so long. I am so disgusted! I will never be back at this location. We recently had to put our dog on a prescription diet after a couple years of him having weird allergies...since we've never had to deal with this before, we stupidly didn't notice he was low on food until it was too late. We called the emergency vet since our normal vet was closed and they told us to leave a message with their pharmacy. No one called us back. We called again on Sunday and were told that they couldn't help us without a recurring prescription (even though our dog was hospitalized there a couple years ago due to having a gastroenteritis issue). They suggested we call another emergency vet who said they could help us but it was dependent on PetSmart having the food. I called this PetSmart and spoke with a woman named Ivy who was sympathetic and genuinely seemed to care about our dogs food issue. She said to just come in and they'd help us out as a one time exception. I can't begin to explain how thankful we are - our dog wouldn't have starved without this exception, but considering that our own emergency vet would NOT help us out and would have been ok with our dog not having food/minimal food really upset us. Pilot (my Maltese/ShiTzu mix) has been to a lot of groomers in his 10 years and has had a lot of bad haircuts but Jen at the Wadsworth Petsmart is the best. He is trimmed consistently well-Jen works with me on specifics I want done and actually does them (like his cheeks shorter than normal Malshi haircuts). I fully trust Jen and so does Pilot; he never comes out of a session with Jen like someone just threatened his life which has happened with other groomers. Thanks Jen! read more

This is purely based on the grooming, and getting my dogs nails done. They nipped her.. Bad. I saw the blood.. It was bad.. I didn't realize HOW bad it was until I am now trying to get her nails done by her normal groomer (lesson learned) and my dog will not even let her touch her nails.. Poor thing! I will NEVER use this location again. I will NEVER recommend this location for any grooming services. The man who did it was like oh I didn't realize that I had cut her until I saw the blood. Like any other petsmart - y'know - where you go to get petfood. This is an old school one - so the middle aisles can be confusing and the food is weird in the middle and to the back. But i figured it out! Staff is pretty friendly and not creepy - so that is always a plus! I asked my vet for a groomer recommendation and was surprised when they said Petsmart. I have been there twice now with my cat who is incredibly whiny and obnoxious when it comes to getting groomed, and both times they were very kind and returned her in wonderful condition. I wish I could wait and pick her up right away, like I used to be able to do at my old groomer in seattle (she just gets a brush out so it doesn't take long). But I understand that is not how most groomers work and they have to fit in several animals. Last time she was there they did a 'dry shampoo' which left her smelling like a grape! It took me a while to figure out what it was, and was so funny to keep smelling grape whenever she was close by. But she did not seem to mind at all and she looked great. read more

We went in for a bath and nail trim and when we came home we realized that her nails are still way too long. Every time she walks you can here them on the hardwood still! Poor pup! Dropped my dog off and as soon as o got the call he was ready, I was excited to see his new look. He looks exactly like he did when I dropped him off. His nails were cut but not filed at all and they are so sharp. Only thing that was different were two knots cut out of his ears. It didn't even looked like his ears were trimmed. So after shopping at this location for more than 15 years I took my dog into the grooming area this morning and was approached by a manager that I've never seen before that said I need to look elsewhere to have my dog groomed because I make a groomer feel uncomfortable because I do not speak to her she hurt my dog during a groom her name is Molly by the way so by ignoring her she feels insecure with herself so I'm asked to go elsewhere because I make other groomers feel uncomfortable By ignoring her to not cause conflict the manager claims she's heard me talk bad about Molly perhaps I have said to another groomer I prefer you because I do not care for Molly Services she shouldn't be a groomer if she cannot handle constructive criticism or if she hurts dogs Molly needs to put on her big girl panties and be professional and adult read more

I shop at this store. I think the current manager is a nice woman - very customer service oriented. The only concern I have is with their grooming department. Years ago at a Pets Mart store a groomer slapped one of my dogs in front of me. He was a "talker" and was not happy to be there. I was told she was tired of hearing him bark and carry on. Needless to say I never took him there again. Nor did I ever bring him to any other Pets Mart store for grooming. A couple years ago I was in this Lakewood store with my son. The grooming department has a glass wall that allows customers to observe groomers doing their job. As we passed by I saw a groomer handling a small white dog fairly harshly. I had to double back to make sure I had seen what I thought I had seen. Sure enough she was brushing the dog very aggresively. She just plain was handling the dog in a way that made me wonder if she cared whether the way she was handling it might be hurtful. My son doubled back to see what I was looking at and he could hardly believe what we were seeing. I had to be some where so I could not do what I wanted to do - which was wait around for the dog's owner to pick it up and share with them what I saw. The next best thing was to call the store manager the next day. We, my son and I told him what we observed and told him that we would never want a dog that belonged to us groomed there because I felt her behavior was unacceptable. He reassured me he would go back and view the store video to see what had happened. He called me back in a few days and told me the video camera was positioned in such a way that he was unable to confirm what we saw. He told me he would contact his boss and discuss how to proceed with my concern. We never heard back from him. Personally, what this person was doing was not egregious. However, I would never want a hair dresser to brush or comb my hair that way. It would hurt like hell. So why would anyone think it was ok to treat an animal that way? You could not pay me to take a dog of mine to Pets Mart to be groomed! Not no, but hell no! read more

I take my dog to get her nails trimmed regularly. The last time I went, I arrived at the store at about 6:45. The grooming salon says they are open until 7 on Wednesdays. However, when I got there, no one was available in the grooming area. So, I come again the next day. On Thursdays they say grooming is open until 9. I arrive at 7:40 and NO ONE IS THERE. Do not give us these hours if you do not follow them! I then ask an employee what the heck is going on. The sign on the door says open until 9, why is no one there? I left there furious - to become an online shopper! Having a Banfield "prescription card" for cat Kidney Care food (Royal Canin), I tried to buy a different brand (Hills), which I had done successfully a couple weeks ago, and my cats like the Hill's flavors better. But the register woman this time said - that card doesn't cover it. I went to the Banfield counter, and the Banfield woman said, even though both items are Kidney care, you need a prescription from your vet for the other flavor/brand. I stormed out leaving my other potential purchases AND the prescription card. Since I have to visit my vet for a prescription, I won't shop Petsmart again. Locally-owned pet stores for miscellaneous items and online for prescription food. Petsmart sucked, needlessly, and has lost a customer. read more
