They need to hire respectful employees. I just had a girl throw every single item of mine on the counter because I bought a sale item and she had a friend there so it was a problem. The manager clearly came over and told her the price and she still argued with me. Not her fault the price didn't come up but her attitude is atrocious. I'm extremely disappointed in PetSmart's cat grooming services in Kingston. They refuse to groom any cat that shows even the slightest sign of "distress" -- which, according to them, includes, god forbid, a single hiss. Can someone please show me a cat that doesn't get a little nervous in a dog-filled grooming salon? Will they still groom a dog that barks once? If you have a cat that acts like a statue in chaos, congrats -- but for the rest of us with actual cats, this place is a total waste of time. They clearly aren't trained or prepared to handle real feline behavior. Don't advertise cat grooming if you won't actually groom cats. read more

if i could put zero stars then i would. My black pug Spenser whom is 14 years old has lost most of his vision and has been experiencing difficulties with walking and standing. I and j today brought him to petsmart in Kingston ny where he goes every month to get his nails cut. And usually if he can't walk they carry him to the table and Back to us. He only weighs 15-20 pounds so they are usually willing to help him out. The people that were in there today were ones that aren't normally there. And just because he couldn't walk to their table they would not cut his nails. ( it didn't help despite the tables closest to their counter was empty they were making him walk to the fare end of the salon. ) He can't help that his back legs went out from under him. And instead of having a little sympathy for him or giving him another chance to try and walk they turned him away. So much for being pro all animals instead they were a bunch of discriminating heartless human beings. He has two handicaps and because he's not perfect they turned him away. When I went in and tried to reason with them on helping him to their table . This female staff had to keep repeating to me that she was the manager and it's not in their rules to carry a pet that he has to walk. I tried to explain that I am on a very fixed income and can't afford to bring him to a vet to get his nails done that usually they help us out. She kept over talking me repeating what she was saying over and over until I left the salon. Would not listen to me or show compassion for myself and or the disabled animal. I called Petco and the very nice man from their grooming said that they will not make him walk and was more than willing to carry him to their table. Let's just say that petsmart lost three customers of the store and most importantly the salon. Animal or human no one discriminates against a disability. I have brought him there every month since we moved to the area in February 2023 and have never been so disrespected by the staff. read more

I have a long-haired cat she is older and can't groom herself well anymore. I took her to Kingston Petsmart. I get a call saying they found two fleas on her. They didn't examine her before hand and once they found the fleas, they didn't want to give her the flea I would've paid $50 extra had taken care of. As I sit and watch my best friend who is now about a 14+ year old pit bull literally not able to stand up to well because he has leg pain I decided that I would do anything I could to try and get him the fastest relief I could. First thing that came to mind was Petsmart. I call them right away and the woman that answered the phone starts the conversation off by what can I do to help your pet today. So I politely ask her is there any thing that she could possibly recommend to help my dog with pain in the response I got was there was nothing I can do or recommend because I am not a vet now I understand legalities but not for nothing it was the most useless Conversation I've ever had in my life and I will never recommend or step foot in that place again unbelievable. read more

I can't even give this groomer salon one star. But it won't let me post without one. I made my appointment with Chris. Upon check in I was told Chris stepped out and would be back so Grace checked me in. She checked over my dog and we agreed that there was some matting near her tail and legs and they may have to cut thinner there. Three hours later I get a call that my dog is ready for pick up. Imagine my shock when I see my poodle had been shaved completely. And left with uneven hair. Not even shaped at all. They lied to me, did not call or communicate to me during the appointment that there may have been issues with my dogs coat. Then I was told Chris did lot do the cut that my dog was given to Caitlyn. And that Caitlyn had left for the day. I am shocked and angry. Our regular stylist left in the spring and we have had nothing but bad experiences since then. Twice we made grooming appointments for two dogs. It is a one hour drive. Per our vet's advice and prescription, we had given one dog half a tranquilizer. We were told ON ARRIVAL that they don't groom tranquilized dogs. They didn't mention anything about policies or restrictions when we made the appointment! We rebooked the appointment, made the one hour drive again (we're three hours of driving and $gas$ into this misadventure now) and this time it turns out they won't groom a dog within 48 hours of an immunization. Did they mention any policies or restrictions BEFORE booking the appointment? No! It's your business, you can have these rules. But Petsmart in Kingston is completely incompetent about communicating. They don't appear to value their customers time or gas money...or maybe they're just incompetent...or they don't train their staff. Whatever the case they deserve this crap review because they need to COMMUNICATE their policies AT THE TIME AN APPOINTMENT is booked. Incompetent/not truly customer-oriented. read more

This is the third time I have taken my Australian shepherd to be groomed at Pet Smart. Percy, the groomer, did a fabulous job washing Sadie, and getting out all her winter under-scurf. We live on a farm, and she is always running through the ditches and covering herself with mud. She looked like a different dog when I got her back. No other groomer has been able to groom her without completely shaving her. Well worth the money!!!! read more

Great services all around here! The grooming services we have never had issues with all the girls love our dog and they always look forward to having him come, just as he enjoys going there! Terrible services. We took our long haired Syrian hamster in on Sunday to see a vet due to our hamster possibly having wet tail. We spoke to the manager, Mary who said to us that day she'd call us when she makes the vet appointment (within 1-2 days) One-two days go by and we still haven't heard anything. We called back and asked how he's doing and they said they would go check on him. We talked to someone else after that and they said they were call us the day after but they said he passed away and didn't make the vet appointment. He passed away the morning we called and they didn't bother telling us until 10 hours after it happened. They were going to wait until a day after it happened to call us. Seriously? I've never had much (if any) problems with this Petsmart. It may be a smaller store than most Petsmart's locations around, but it's always clean, and it is always well-staffed. The employees that work there, always seem to know just how to properly answer questions that the customer inquires about, and seem to direct them to the product, sometimes even walking back directly to the product themselves. In the back of the store, they have a place where there is even a cat-adoption location. Although the cats don't have much room in each of their cages, the cats don't seem to care too much that they are in there. I've never had much luck with cats in cages and fear for them being all cramped and such. On top of this, they even have pet groomers in the back area of the store. Although I've never actually had any pets that needed to be groomed, I've watched several pets getting groomed through their clean glass windows. It's interesting how well they proceed with the procedure as mandated by the customer's orders. It's that rare dog that doesn't hold still. And even when the animal/dog doesn't hold still, the employee seems to take a little piece of time to calm and console the animal/dog. And plus, what makes this all that much better than most other places is that you can enter the store with your pet and they won't scream at you for doing so. Before I forget, at times there's even a dog-training corral at the back of the store. Looking for water for your prized pooch-a rarity exits back near the bathrooms of this store-a water bowl, that may give Fido just what he needs to become motivated again. I'm not too crazy about prices for selection, but if Wal-Mart's(next-door) doesn't carry enough of a selection of food/treats/etc., I'd take some time to investigate here. So, whether it's that breed of dog, cat, birds, or even rare breed of animals(from lizards to you name it), you'll get it all here. read more

Grossly unknowledgeable about reptile care- I was physically denied access to the product I drove 40 minutes to purchase today. I walked in with the knowledge of what product I need to care for the health of my gecko after obviously doing thorough research. The woman I spoke to at the store claimed that this product could only be used on the animal pictured on its label (and could not give me the recourses as to how she knows this). She refused to let me buy it, claiming it would be dangerous to my pet. I spoke to my vet after getting home only to be assured that the particular brand of product this PetSmart was selling can as should be used for my pet. Do not recommend grooming services. I had taken my wired hair doxen terrier mix to be groomed several times. The last time was a complete nightmare for the dog. I had made an appointment and spoke to the woman at the desk about what was going to be done to the dog. I told the woman that I wanted him trimmed, bathed, and nails clipped. She smiled and told me that I would receive a call within two hours when the dog was ready to pick up. After two and half hours, I drove over to see what exactly was going on. As I walked to the window, I noticed a girl grooming a cute lab puppy. Little did I know that the girl, who was not the same girl that I spoke to groomed my dog, but it was MY dog. I barely recognized my wired hair doxen. On top of all of this, it was FEBRUARY. My dog had almost no coat. The poor groomer had no knowledge of the conversation that I had with the woman at the desk. The groomer even stayed well beyond her shift to groom him. When I spoke to the manager, he refused to refund my money, but instead offered me a 10% discount on future services. read more

They convinced me to buy an $80 flea collar because none of the other brands were working this year... my cat still got fleas with this collar! I called and asked for a refund, the woman on the phone ok'd it.. I show up and the manager on duty is So rude and just says "My policy is no refunds for any of the flea collars".. all because she chooses to. I called PetSmart customer service and they said she has the right to make this decision.. but Why?? I just find that ridiculous. We have to say that Shirley is our go-to-groomer, but when she has not been available when we are there, the other groomers have also been Great! July 17, 2018 two 6-month-old Schnoodles were taken to be groomed at the Kingston, NY location. The dogs were bathed and brushed prior to their appointments. This was their first grooming appointment and a quick discussion about the type of cut preferred took place. A PetSmart associate pulled up pictures of groomed Schnoodles to help get a better understanding of what was wanted. One of the pictures specifically featured a dog shaved down with little to no hair left. The associate was informed that this cut was not good but rather one of the more traditional cuts from one of the other pictures was needed. Before leaving, a consent form was signed acknowledging that if some of the hair was matted that it would need to be shaved. The individual picking up the dogs was not the owner. Upon her arrival, the groomer, Marissa, informed the women that the dogs needed to be completely shaved down because they were simply too matted to groom any other way. The skin of the dog which was exposed was pink underneath and raw to the touch. Later that day when the owner arrived home, she called PetSmart in Kingston to speak with a manager about the condition the dogs were in. The manager, Steve, said he had seen the dogs and was in fact surprised by how far they had been shaved. However, he said because a consent form was signed that the groomer had the right to groom the dogs how she saw fit. The response by the owner was one that if in fact parts of the dog were matted, that shaving them would have been fine. However, this shave was excessive and extreme. So extreme that she was warned that the dogs run the risk of a sunburn if they are outside in the sun for too long. Steve, the manager, was rude, unapologetic and unprofessional. The owner asked Steve why she wasn't called before the extreme action of shaving the dogs down happened. She informed Steve that if she had known this type of service was going to take place, she never would have consented to this groom. The owner asked Steve how he was going to make the situation right and he replied, "What do you want me to do about it?". We have been loyal PetSmart customers for many, many years and have spent thousands of dollars on grooming and pet supplies for all our animals. This unfortunate situation should never have happened if only a quick phone call before the excessive and extreme shave was performed. We are very disappointed with PetSmart, the groomer Marissa, and the manager Steve. We look forward to hearing a follow up from PetSmart shortly and pictures of the dogs from that day are available. read more

I've been to a few petsmarts to buy food for my dogs. The kingston Petsmart is a little dirty & disorganized. The dog trainer is a very kind woman, we've spoken a few times abt dogs in general. There's one "big" girl there w/one tooth in the front who doesn't seem to have the personal skills to treat ppl w/respect! I definitely do NOT recommend the grooming services there, as when I brought my dog in, noticed through the window a woman yelling at the dog giving him mean looks....he was shaking all over. Felt really sorry for him! Thank God for the window to observe! This store is really weird compared to the rest. Also the groomer seemed as if she wasn't trained well enough to do some basics like trim the dogs nails. This petsmart sucks. read more

They do not stand by their products, even for loyal customers. Last we I attempted to return a cat scratching post that I had purchased only a short time earlier. I did not expect money back, only an exchange only to be told, quite rudely, that they didn't accept changes without a receipt. I'm sure that if they took the time to look up my purchases via me credit card number they would have discovered it. Very customer unfriendly and I will not be shopping there any longer. read more

I am from Idaho and was traveling through the area, my two ShihTzu's needed grooming to cop with the east coast humidity. I was very specific about the cut and clearly stated they were not to cut the tails or ears. Well they chopped their long beautiful hair short short! When I brought it to the attention of the groomer she sarcastically said sorry and went about her business. I did get in touch with the store manager today and she has arranged for a full refund but the damage is done. It took 3 years to grow the hair, I imagine it will take as long to grow back. I will never use the services of Pet smart for grooming. Very disappointed. Go to a real groomer, not Petsmart. read more

We had taken our Leonberger for grooming twice before and requested Ann the groomer who groomed her last time. My husband asked that she trim her all over, exactly as she had done the last time. She said she did not remember (seriously how many Leonberger dogs go there!). So she showed him a long clipper and my husband not being a groomer , and assuming she knew the breed and since she had properly trimmed her before, deferred to her expertise. Instead of a trim my long haired dog was sheared with the hair on her back left less than an inch long!!!! My dog's coat is now ruined and when I spoke to the Manager, Melissa this morning she was already aware of this problem, but insisted that is what we ordered which it was not. The manager agreed that they don't normally cut the guard hairs that short knowing they are likely not to come back but she insisted that is what we wanted and that is was just a miscommunication. Don't ever take you dog there and leave it in the hands of such non-caring groomers who admit that they knew you would never shear a Leonberger dog's entire coat, but did it anyway and then blame the owner and chalk it up to a miscommunication, despite having trimmed her correctly on a previous visit. We wanted her trimmed and they sheared her! They offered our money back which I took on principle --nothing is ever going to replace my beautiful dog's coat. Thanks Ann!! read more
