I chose this PetSmart location after reading several reviews by other customers. This location is a clean and safe environment, with experienced staff and expertise, gentle handling of your pet, and good communication via text to let you know when your pet is ready for pick up. We also appreciate the groomer's knowledge of our pet's health and his arthritis with the ability to handle our dog's breed, and PetSmart offers customizable grooming services. The fees are competitive and you can join the PetSmart Loyalty program, and online notices for special promotions, new product announcements, gift ideas during the holiday, Halloween costume ideas, and much more! CJ enjoys going and he is not intimidated to be dropped off at this PetSmart location. I don't know what the other reviewers are talking about when they complain about customer service at the Walpole PetSmart. Maybe they were talking about literally everyone except the young woman who helped us in the fish department last weekend. We walked in like we were going to be fish experts--grab some guppies, toss them in a cart, and strut out like proud new aquarium parents. Turns out, we knew approximately nothing about fish. Or snails, or shrimp--basically nothing about anything that goes in a tank besides water. Enter Fish Girl™ (young, dark hair, nose ring, probably graduated top of her class at Fish School University). She patiently answered our one million questions like a saint who somehow knew everything about aquatic life. Every answer blew my mind. Did you know snails have way more drama in their lives than you think? Neither did I--until she explained it. She wasn't just knowledgeable--she was kind, patient, and never made us feel like the clueless guppy parents we clearly were. I rarely leave reviews unless I'm either really impressed or really annoyed. This time, impressed won big time. And I must add - even at the register, the good vibes continued. The cashier was one of those happy dudes who just radiates joy, and honestly, his mood followed us out the door. We left with our fish supplies and a smile. I even decided to return my cart all the way back INTO the store because of my experience and the guy smiled, "Thanks!" You got it, man. For the first time since we signed up with PetSmart when they opened, they rejected my check (their Certegy Payment Solution LLC). I have almost always used checks for payment since the time the store opened. The person at the checkout told me this has been happening to other customers recently. If the above is true, this seems to be a new policy created by PetSmart to force customers to use a credit card and move away from dealing with banks. Given credit card companies charge a fee to PetSmart and banks don't, it seems the change is driven by corporate know-nothings concerning customer loyalty and Don't Care. I also assume it is possible the cost savings from removing software and software vendors is in play. (I'm a retired 36 year IT person and seen this done multiple times.) Given the cost of pet food savings isn't that great (0.01 difference at Big Y for can food and better for the cat treats & litter), I won't be buying at PetSmart for quite a while. Cat pet supplies like scratching posts, towers etc ... can be bought online and cheaper, just not as convenient, but I can wait for a delivery and save my car gas. Suck it up losers. read more

I brought my Pekingese in for a bath and the entire process was smooth- Megan greeted us right on time and did a phenomenal job!! De-matting to me is not shaving! Was also told that she doesn't like to be blown dry so needs to be air dried with an annoyed tone. Unprofessional!! They have rescheduled me three times. The system has been down for days and they were unable to look up my information, then informed me of an expired rabies vaccine. I finally got an appointment drove 35 minutes and they informed me my pet could not be seen because she was vaccinated yesterday. Why is this not on the website? Why when they told me her rabies needed to be updated they didn't inform me that I would need at least 48 hours prior to her being seen, instead of them just telling me to bring in proof of recent vaccination and rescheduling her appt for me. I came in to buy some food for my pet and at the register I heard a dog crying and screeching. I noticed a beautiful dark grey great dane puppy about 4-5 months old being held down by two 20--something groomers. I said tot he cashier, "What's going on? That poor puppy is in pain" to which the cahier stated "oh he's okay, they are just trimming his nails, he hasn't been crated." I said " well he sounds like he's in real pain! They may be cutting his nails too low." Another woman, possibly a manager heard me and went in to talk to the two groomers, they stopped the nail cutting. But I'm afraid they continued after I left. This had me OUTRAGED. These young groomers don't care they are harming a puppy. If this were my puppy and I came in and heard this I would FLIP OUT and read them the riot act. They should be retrained or just terminated. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE FOR GROOMING. read more

Petsmart is the best pet store in the area. I used to just know about Petco, and nothing about Petsmart, as Petsmart recently opened in the Walpole Mall, and hasn't had a presence anywhere in the surrounding area in the past This store is huge, brand new, and extremely clean. It has an extensive selection in general, and simply blows Petco out of the water, as the Petco down the street in Norwood is complete garbage. The store is so dirty, gross, and completely understocked. It is so in desperate need of a remodel, and just hasn't got it. Prices aren't any cheaper either, and sometimes more expensive. On the other hand, this Petsmart is immaculate and has a supreme selection of everything your pet could ever need. Store is vast, wide, and spacious as well. Checkout never has a line, and the employees here at checkout and at the grooming center are always super friendly, kind, and always super knowledgeable about good ideas for pets and the grooming center does such a great job as well. I will continue to do lots and lots of shopping at Petsmart. 5 stars. read more

This is the worst customer service I've ever experienced in my life. Bought a betta fish there and 5 days later, it died from a disease it had when we bought it. Went back to petsmart and spoke to the manager about what happened. She was an absolute horrible person with no compassion and absolutely atrocious customer service. She wanted the dead fish body, a receipt, and was pissed that we didn't pay with a credit card so she had to look for the transaction to do any return. We provided her the exact date and time we bought it. She was extremely skeptical and did not apologize at all. Then we went to look for a replacement and were told that the 2.5 gallon tank we purchased previously was not adequate enough for ANY FISH they had for sale. What. The. Hell. How can you sell a tank that will not properly house a single fish!! That's crap! I went to the petco right up the street and had a 100% better experience. The manager there was amazing. She listened to our story, recommended a different tank setup and different fish. She also gave us a $20 discount on the tank, saying that she would make up for some of the money we spent at petsmart. Absolutely incredible. Like night and day. I'm one of those Yelpers who only reviews places I've had outstanding experiences at, but I'm breaking my usual rule since the issues I experience at this PetSmart location are always consistent, and have been occurring for years. Basically, if this store was a young adult mystery novel, it would be titled "Walpole PetSmart and the Case of Disappearing Online Orders". I absolutely LOVE that you can order online for in-store pickup, and right on the PetSmart website it guarantees the order will be ready in one hour or less. In my 15+ online orders, not once has it been ready anywhere near an hour. I take this into account when ordering. Around 1pm today I placed a "ready in an hour" online order, and my husband just went to pick it up at 8:30pm, giving them over SEVEN hours to complete it. When my husband walked in he was the only customer in the store, and the cashier was (get this), asleep on a dog bed he had placed on the counter. Not fully laying down or anything, but slumped over the counter using it as a facial pillow. My husband gently woke him up from his dreams of puppies (or more likely, video games) and said he was picking up an online order. After checking, he was told it wasn't there. He had to get a manager, who said the order had not yet been sent to the store by the online system...this is what we are told every time. Every.Darn.Time. She told him to wait a moment and said she would get it together, which is odd considering she said seconds prior she didn't even have it/it was not visible? When my husband came home and gave me the bag, there was only item.... I had ordered 15 items. I sort of blame myself for not telling him how many things should be in the bags, but then again when you place an online order, you shouldn't have to give inventory instructions. So, in usual fashion I called the store. I was told what I'm always told ("Oh, the order isn't showing in our system yet"), but in the next breath the customer service rep said she was 'actually in the middle of getting your order together' (Huh?) and 'we just had a new system put in which is really awful and confusing'. Not a good sign, since the last time I placed an order and asked why there was always a problem with orders not showing up, I was told the system was really outdated and had problems, but they were fixing it. Looks like the new system is up and running, yet has fixed nothing considering today was an all time record for how long an order took to process. I agree with other reviews that state the staff are not the friendliest bunch. It's hard to get questions answered. But the store always seems to be clean, which is always a plus at a pet store. So if you're considering placing a store pickup order, just be wary if you're on any type of time limit. This store completely takes the convenience factor out of online ordering, which is the entire reason it's in place, and there are often inventory issues (items will show as being in stock, but when I pick up the order I'm told XYZ was out of stock). With computerized inventory, that's just not acceptable, and more than once I've seen items on the shelf I've been told weren't available. After all my ranting, you're probably wondering why I continue to shop here. The truth is, I'm always able to find considerably large online promo codes (ie: 30% off total order) making the prices unbeatable if I order online and do store pickup, so the hassle is almost worth it. However, corporate really needs to take a look at how this store is running because the exact order problems are downright predictable, every single time, and the lack of any sort of apologies or attempts to solve problems doesn't make you feel too great. read more

No one smiles in this store. The manager never acknowledges you or your dog and I have been going there for a year now. I have smiled at her and she looks the other way. Others have also told me that she is not friendly or personable. So the groomers kept the dog two hours over the time they were supposed to because they were so busy. Mine cannot hold her bladder for over six hours as she is tiny. They now book appointments online, over the phone, and in the store. It is ridiculous. Every groomer is overworked there and looks it. She never apologized nor did she give me my $5 Perk Rewards that I used to purchase for my Blue Buffalo Puppy Starter kit. When I asked her name, I was only given "Katy" with a "K." No one knew her last name and they said she was not very nice to work with. I have sent a complaint to their corporate HQ but don't expect to hear back. My family and I had seen a lot of great reviews of Pets Smart, and we were excited to take our dog to Pet Smart to get groomed. We received a phone call from the groomers, a few hours after dropping our dog off saying that they had accidentally cut a piece off of her tongue with scissors . We were extremely upset with this news because we have always taken our dog to the groomers and we have never seen anything like this. When we arrived arrived at Pet Smart we glanced over at the grooming area and we saw a groomer grooming a white dog, while talking with another staff member. Obviously this lack of attention and negligence is what caused for my dog to get hurt in the process. My dog has currently not stopped bleeding and my family and I strongly recommend that nobody takes their dogs to the Pet Smart in Walpole, I would certainly not be takeing my dog there ever again. read more

I was really sad to read the previous reviewer's experience as we had a completely different experience on 6/21/13. My dog has never been groomed before and hates being washed, and hates the drier but the staff were very careful and gentle with him. It took a long time to get everything done because they had to take their time with him which we really appreciated. All the staff seemed genuinely interested in the pets they were seeing and our dog looked amazing afterwards. read more

I do like the grooming salon though so I'll probably keep going there but will consider going back to petco for purchases. I spend about $75 per month on pet supplies - or more. They have very negligent groomers who are not paying attention and talking to each other when they are supposed to be paying attention to what they are actually paid for. Took my dog there for grooming and will never return there again. After being there 3 hours I get a call that they accidently cut a piece of my dogs tongue because she stuck it out. Instaed of saying she was too busy talking and not paying attention to what she was doing. An experienced groomer know what caution to take when grooming a dog's face.
