I am a seasoned fish owner as well as the mother of a very successful aquarium store owner. I have usually gone to my son's store for fish but his store is a distance away, so I went to PetSmart in Downingtown where I have frequented over the 2 decades of living out here. I haven't been there for a while, but I must say I will not return there at all. I wanted to purchase a Betta and the set up. The manager came up to interfere with my shopping telling me what to buy and then told me if I hadn't recycled the water for 2-3 weeks, they would not allow me to buy the fish! Betta fish are commonly put in vases with plants and NO filter! The expectation is frequent water changes! I removed everything from the cart for her to return to their proper places and told her my son's fish are much better anyway. Quit Banfield few years ago, now the entire store system! read more

absolutely the worst experience of my life. they completely shaved my puppy's tail down to nothing stating it was matted. her tail was not matted and even when i told them to stop grooming her until i could get there and see what they were talking about they had already shaved her before i got there. I took my dog for grooming she is a Pomeranian they spent almost 3 hours the dog was not eve done, she was way too stressed that she sounded like she was having a heart attack, I asked if they even offered water to her they said yes but my dog was dehydrated from using the blower on her, for so long I called the Vet of how bad my dog was, she was wheezing soo loud, for hours and I paid $100 I regretted giving tips to this person not even nice to my dog, they barely touch her hair it was long and I paid $25 for the undercoat that they never got done, be smart never ever go to this place poor dogs, not worth your money or time read more

Safari and Siri said that dwarf hamsters are supposed to live 2-2.5 years but my dwarf hamster, Turbo, sadly passed away on July 5th, 2025 and I am very sad since he only lived 3 months. When I was younger I also had another hamster named, Hammy, and he died after a couple months also. So I am here to say that these animals should be treated correctly and safely so we can have healthy and long lasting best friends. And as a kid/ preteen of divorced parents I only get to see my pets for a limited amount of time. I am very sad and emotionally distraught about my hamsters. We don't deserve this kind of heartbrea. We are supposed to have amazing, cute, and long lasting best friends to keep at our side at our toughest times. But when they are getting treated like this, we can't have that. So I am here to say that if you can't give us long lasting best friends you should think about how we all feel about our buddies for life. Justice for all pets! read more

I frequent this PetSmart about two to three times a month I spend Lots of money and donate almost every time. I noticed I was over charged on and item so I went back the get the difference adjusted. I waited in line and the Manager , with a nasty attitude told me I should have come sooner because she cant give me a adjustment. First she told me they don't do adjustments , she also said I have to have the item. I told her it was still on the shelf so she said come on real nasty. Made me walk back to the item, that was freshly restocked and still the price I thought it would be. So she mumbled something and started back up to the front. She was quiet the whole time, never said a word to me or the person waiting behind me. She gave me the refund and just stared at me with a Blank look. No apology no smile just Blank. Is this a representation of PetSmart?, this Blank look and Nasty attitude. She did this before also, but I never said anything just went back to get another person who never even questioned me and gave the adjustment based on my receipt. On Monday I will call corporate, and then follow up here!!!! PS I went to Walmart because I needed more pet food, and guess what it was 'cheaper! and the cashier said Thank you with a smile!!! read more

I had 2 great experiences with getting our puppy bathed and nails trimmed. On her first birthday took her for her first grooming. Brought a picture from the cavalier website. Explained to trim under ears, trim feathers to even out , do sanitary cut and trim bottom of paws but leave "grinch paws". When we picked her up she had no grinch feet, was shaved on her belly and elimination area , ears were cut all around and her tail chopped off at end. I was so unhappy. After picking up our new puppy we decided to stop by this pet smart to pick up a few things we felt we may have forgotten. They had a good selection of high quality foods. Plenty of toys, bath, essential etc we're all available here. The sales associate in the store was able to tell that he was a new puppy and we chatted for a bit. She was super helpful and gave us some tips that sounded very smart and had never heard of although we've done tons of research before buying our pup. They also had a restroom in the store which is much appreciated. read more

Remember the movie Dum and Dumber? These people are incompetent, especially the cashier. I asked her if anyone else was working on the floor to help me find an item. This was after she gave me the completely wrong location of the item. She told me there wasn't. I then asked her if the other employee that finished his shift but was still there could help me. She said no. I asked him anyway and he had no clue but told me to ask the manager by the aquariums in the back! Sure enough, the manager AND another employee were hiding back there. The manager at least showed me the exact location of the product, which was nowhere near where the cashier directed me. I told the manager what the cashier said and she dismissed it, saying "She's new. She's only been here a couple weeks." You would think after a couple weeks, the employee would at least know if the manager was on duty! I find Petco much more helpful and more knowledgeable. read more

We bought a green cheek conure from here. I was expecting a bird that would need a lot of work to be able to be handled. Turns out a few employees had him out after closing many days of the week, and the second I got him home he immediately climbed up on me and gave kisses. 2.5 months later he's doing great and is a sweet bird. read more

I accidentally booked a grooming appointment for my large puppy here instead of petco, I took him anyway and figured it would be a similar experience. First, when I walked in the staff was not super friendly. I next noticed the extreme amount of hair all over the floor, which is to be expected but this seemed as if they don't sweep/clean in between any appointments. When I picked him up, I was almost handed the wrong dog. There was no summary sheet of what had been done and the groomer just shouted a few things to note in the middle of her grooming another dog. They also didn't put my pets collar back on which was just an inconvenience to try to do with their small area. All and all my dog looks fine and seems to be fine but I probably will not have him groomed here again. read more

You never know what you're going to get with a "big box" store, but I have been pleasantly surprised by how wonderful a staff member/manager named Lauren is at this location (and no it's not just bc we share a name). My dog has been on several different prescription diets this year so I have been in and out/requiring assistance quite a few times. I've been very lucky to have Lauren's help, who is absolutely wonderful. Corporate - take note, this is the kind of employee you want. read more

When I dropped off my pup (40 lb 4 year old mix) I advised that she doesn't like her feet touched or the dryer so please use a muzzle. When I picked her up she was still wet and her nails hadn't been trimmed and her hair cut between her toes. When I asked about it they snickered and said they "don't agree with using muzzles". So, I paid $50 to pick up a wet, still smelly dog who wasn't even BRUSHED. Pathetic service. I will not use PetsMart for ANYTHING anymore let alone grooming. read more

We've had our wheaten terrier groomed at this location since she was old enough to go. We've had no issues with the grooming. Is it expert grooming? No. But from a value perspective the quality is quite good for what you pay. While I haven't used their other services, we have bought fish from this location, and the sales staff who assisted us were friendly and extremely helpful. With regards to the previous reviewer (aka "The Dog Whisperer"), claiming abuse just because your dog acts funny is way over-the-top. I've never seen anything but excellent treatment of the dogs in their care. They do the work right in front of you, and the grooming location is enclosed in glass -- If they were mistreating animals, you don't think a shopper at a store dedicated to animals would have called that out by now?? read more

Rude, sarcastic, unhelpful cashier finally tipped the scale - I will not be returning to this PetSmart. How hard is smiling at and greeting a customer? Honestly, everybody hates their job sometimes but you're at work - deal with it, suck it up, and be courteous. I didn't have my loyalty card on me and I'm 110% sure it's associated with my current phone number so she must have typed it in wrong and instead of offering to type it again, she insisted I needed to re-enroll. Yeah, right. Then she made a comment about how expensive the product I bought was and actually rolled her eyes after I agreed that yes, it was pricy but necessary. All of this happened in under 5 minutes. I had a bad experience at the PetSmart in Devon as well.. Will be taking my business elsewhere! :) read more

I have been taking my dogs for the past 25 years. You think that would actually mean something, but apparently not. I took my dog in to get groomed today with his regular groomer Jenn who does a great job, but because my dog had a shot yesterday she was not able to groom him per petsmart policies. I am a VERY honest person and because of that I was not allowed to get him groomed. I'm sure like alot of you out there with fur babies under stands that it is nerve wracking for both you and the pup. So to get me and him nervous is extremely unfair. In the end this just teaches me that after 25 years there is no loyalty on their behalf so there is no longer any loyalty from me. Also, as I was waiting for the groomer I was observing a couple of other groomers working on the other dogs and one particular groomer was very annoyed with the dog she was working on and all she was doing was sanding it's nails down. Maybe she should think of getting another job. read more

Meredith Falcone, an animal caregiver at this store, showed such kindness and empathy when I called about my sick fish. A different pet place told me to flush him or freeze him! Meredith has me bring him in, and she said she believes he can be nursed back to health. Even if it doesn't work out, she is an angel and deserves recognition for her amazing kindness and professionalism. read more

We actually followed a Groomer here from another location, and although she has left since, the remaining groomers have done a fine job and are friendly. I just took my 1 year old gsd puppy to get his nails clipped and the groomers were completely incompetent and borderline abusing my dog right in front of me. He has gotten groomed there multiple times and every time I pick him up I ask how he was getting his nails trimmed and the groomers always say he did great especially for a puppy. I have never seen these groomers until today but they told me that it would take about 5-10 minutes so I walked around the store and heard barking so I walked back to look through the window and saw the male groomer holding my dog by the head shaking him from side to side while the girl tried to clip his nails. I guess this is their idea of distracting a dog? I tried to quickly check out because he continued whining and barking and I saw the man grab my dog by the muzzle to get him to be quiet (great way to get yourself bit). When I ran in I told the girl I was taking him and she didn't have to finish clipping because I only wanted his back dew claws done and she responded back with an attitude and completely ignored me when I said I was taking my dog home. They kept dabbing his feet with a towel and sure enough when I got in the car I noticed multiple exposed quicks (blood supply in the toenails). They are the orange looking parts on his nail. One of which is completely in half from her carelessly clipping. This is very painful for dogs and even more traumatizing for a puppy. I will never take my dog here again and will advise everyone I know with a dog to do the same. I have never in my life seen someone mistreat an animal like this. They clearly lacked the patience and knowledge on how to deal with a large dog because once I started talking to him to calm him down he settled right down until the girl clipped his quick again then he would yank his leg away and cry. read more

So I had been here and was called stating they 'had availabilities" for my dog. I scheduled a 1:30 appointment and at 4:10 I walked back in. I could see my dog and she appeared to be about finished. When I walked in I was met with a rude can I help you and when I said I was here for my dog she replied it would be another hour. I was told they ask for 3-4 hours. I was not made aware of the length of time and will find someone who can do in 2 hours. The rude groomer is not worth it and if they are that way with humans how would they treat my dog? Too many groomers in the area to give them the business. read more

The staff that work in the store are amazing! They always greet my pet, help me find the best toys, and are soooo friendly! I love coming to the downingtown PetSmart. Not a fan of the dog hair cut place but fine for nail trims. read more

Although I'm quite sure that the staff has changed many times since the issue I have with the grooming center in this Petsmart, I'd still like to give a heads up. When I first moved here, we took our dog to the grooming center here to be bathed and fur trimmed. The first few times he was alright. Acting and being his normal self. However I noticed one time, we had to almost drag him from cowering behind my mother, through the door to the grooming center. We thought that he was just being stubborn. But it wasn't until I saw something in his eyes that he did NOT want to be there. He LOVED bath time and whatnot, so this behavior was not normal. So knowing his past of being abused and his behavior at this establishment, we decided to take him elsewhere to be groomed and he was so much happier. I don't know what happened but since then, him nor any other of my dogs have gone back there. A bath and a hair cut is not worth being mistreated for. read more

I agree that the training classes at PetSmart are excellent. I have recommended them to a lot of my friends. I also tell them NOT to use them for grooming. The first time I took my Persian in for a routine clip he came home bleeding. The groomer told me he was being very uncooperative. Fine, then you stop trying and call me, you don't wrestle with the cat and end up cutting him. If your pet comes home and "acts funny" it doesn't necessarily mean he was abused. It probably does mean he was groomed by inexperienced people and he's stressed, which is not good for any animal. If that's ok with you in order to save a few bucks, go for it. read more

I had a great experience with the training at petsmart, my lab puppy was a wild man but after taking him to the 8 week training he listens to me and is much better behaved now than before. The trainer, michelle, was attentive and helpful. On the other hand I took my dog to the groomers for a nail trim where they were supposed to file the nails the lady clipped them so short my dog was yelping and a few of his nails were bleeding, She tried to cover it up with some powder but it was very obvious they were bleeding and he was hurt. The other nails were fraying and jagged. I took him back to make them fix and smooth them out but I had to carry him in because he would not willingly go in the salon after his scary experience. The lady was shorter, dark short hair , about 40 yrs old with thick framed black glasses. DO NOT LET HER GO NEAR YOUR DOG, unless you want them to be traumatized. read more

After being a pretty loyal customer to a pretty average pet store, about a week ago I decided to never purchase from them again. A couple weeks ago, I purchased 2 clown loaches to add to our home aquarium. As the fishkeeper was getting them out of the tank, I couldn't help but notice the AWFUL conditions the tank was in. It was so dirty, that the water became opaque with filth when the substrate moved around. There was minimal, if any, effort put into the well being of these fish. I decided to take the fish anyway to get them out of those poor conditions and to a clean, healthy tank; a decision I would soon regret. We added the fish to our tank and we soon noticed an illness. Ich, a common disease in freshwater fish, had overrun our tank. Our fish we'd had for years, even a pleco we had for about 10 years, started dropping dead, including the clown loaches. A tank we had for 10+ years is now completely devastated. Although Ich is common, it is almost always linked to high stress levels of fish, mostly from environmental factors like water quality, which the fish clearly lacked. I am not usually one to leave bad reviews, but when it comes to the lives of living beings, PetSmart doesn't deserve anything more. (PetCo in Exton takes much better care of their aquatic life) read more

Despite the other reviewers experiences that were negative, I've only had good experiences at this location. Terrible customer service in the grooming department. Extremely rude staff with awful attitude problems. I wouldn't take my dog back there if they paid me. Has been that way every time I've gone there, today was the final straw. I asked what time they closed & was answered with a "for what?" along with a few other ridiculous comments. I have NO clue what happened to the grooming department but it has sure gone down the toilet in my opinion. Up to about a year ago I would have my dogs groomed there on a regular basis now you couldn't pay me to take them there. Towards the end I didn't recognize any of the groomers and the new faces were NOT friendly. The hole shop seemed different it was no longer warm and inviting it seemed cold and cranking/stressed. My dogs would come home stressed and scared. I can't tell you how many times I have gone into the store and looked in grooming to see dogs on tables and no one near them. Groomers handling dogs roughly. Toe nails getting cut to short and bleeding. I know accidents happen but it seems to often. read more

I use Banfield, they are very good. The care package is pricey, but convenient. I know of other vets in area that are better priced, but this is closest to me. I used the groomer ONCE for my cockapoo. The trim was bad and patchy in spots. I did not tip. I am just glad they were not abusive to her. read more

We took our dog for training class but he got spooked by the automatic doors and got of the leash. Many people tried to get him but he bolted by being chased by so many people who were trying to help. The amazing thing is Petsmart employees also tried to help with several coming out after their shifts ended. Especially Lexi, whose sighting actually helped us find him the next day, and others whose names I didn't get. Wonderful people who care about animals. THANK YOU!!! read more

Every time I'm in this store I never get someone asking if they can help me. Also when checking out there is always a long wait (not a long line). Very slow checkout to many questions, donations, do you want the receipt now or emailed to you. I recommend PETCO in Exton. Smooth and quick! read more
