This is for the grooming salon. I have had my mom's dogs groomed there twice and my dog once. I love how thorough they are at check in and the solid work in keeping our doggos healthy, clean and looking good. They are honest abut pricing and timelines. They have groomed a chihuahua, Lhasa apso, and a golden retriever. So all sizes and all dispositions, with amazing results. Mike was my most recent groomer. He groomed my service dog. I was worried about taking my dog to a new groomer. Mike put me right at ease. He is a compassionate, caring human and a phenomenal groomer. Use the app, and they will let you know when your pup is ready and you can pay online. Which is super helpful of you have any pet sitters or family helping out with dog care. DO NOT GROOM HERE. I've brought my dog here twice and BOTH times he was shaved with NO PERMISSION OR INSTRUCTION to do so, and I have taken him to petsmart literally all over the world and HAVE NEVER had this happen before at any other location. My dog is a HUSKY MIX which should never be shaved, yet there are some elusive "notes" that refer to him "usually" being cut with a 1 inch guard comb. Yet l have NEVER gotten him back shaven except from this horrible location. First time they only shaved his tail, because she was running out of time and it was "too matted", when I asked where the matted fur was she said she couldn't remember, ok whatever, annoying but not as much of a big deal. So for this time, I asked them not to shave his tail again so THEY SHAVED HIS WHOLE BODY EXCEPT FOR THE TAIL. I'm so angry I can't believe they would do this, even if they weren't sure, why not just call?! Aren't they supposed to be professionals that know better?! Wouldn't take a haircut for your pet from here even it was free! read more

TL;DR This experience has left me in utter shock in the unprofessionalism and lack of knowledge present at this store location and seriously leaves in question whether I will ever bring any business to PetSmart again. Before and After photos on request. I gave instructions to Grooming Services to trim and shape our Newfoundland dog, and it seemed as if the groomer was understanding what we were asking for. Groomer then used previous grooming instructions that were 4 years old when our dog was having skin problems. Our dog has been to PetSmart for grooming services in Maryland and Virginia several times over the past few years with no issues. With us unable to see the previous grooming instructions, and the groomer seemingly listening to our instructions and understanding what was desired, we thought there would be no problem. When we picked up our dog, we come to find him with his shaved haircut that he had 4 years ago when it was a medical necessity and all other instructions were completely disregarded, as if the groomer simply forgot our instructions and fell back on the FOUR year old grooming notes. It is grossly negligent for anyone working in dog care and grooming to not understand the significance of a double-coated dog maintaining both of their coats. Even a simple google search for someone inexperienced with handling double-coated dogs would show the potential problems associated with shaving a double-coated dog down to their inner coat, like what was done to our dog. Shaving a double-coated dog can cause problems for years until their coats fully grow back, you would think it would make sense that if for some reason our instructions were forgotten, they would call us to ensure we really wanted to SHAVE our perfectly healthy Newfoundland. This experience has left me in utter shock in the unprofessionalism and lack of knowledge present at this store location and seriously leaves in question whether I will ever bring any business to PetSmart again. To recap this message, I am completely baffled that any grooming professional would consider the shaving of a double coated dog a normal activity that wouldn't require EXPRESS consent and acknowledgement by the owner prior to inflicting damage that will take years to recover from. I ask that anyone from PetSmart Corporate look into the Dothan business and ensure no other examples of this gross negligence of grooming care and lack of knowledge of dogs occurs. read more

Went here over the holidays a few years ago and it was about what was expected. It is a big box store for pets and we rarely go to those type of places. But when it comes to finding cheaper toys, it beats just about any other brick and mortar. The employees weren't super helpful. But they did do what I needed them to. Point me in the right direction and check me out. I expect no more. I expect no less. Hence it just being ok. Their selection was decent for the toys. I wouldn't come here for treats if I can help it and I'm not sure on their actual pet buying. But we got a couple of new beds, some toys and a few other things and it sufficed. I've been a loyal customer of PetSmart for over 15 years BUT it's time to SWITCH! Dothan Alabama location has the rudest in-store employees, especially the female manager with unnatural dark shoulder length hair, she glares at the customers with obvious disdain for her job when a customer/cashier requires assistance. Mark is professional, courteous & friendly, I know his name because he was an anomaly of kindness in this store so I asked his name! The lady with short gray hair, glasses and an accent is generally kind as well but the others are rude with apparent attitudes. Use caution when inquiring about online pricing or coupons, I spend substantial amounts of money here monthly and feel like I'm treated like a non customer who just popped in to use their restrooms :( locations similar to this type of chain with retail pricing PLUS nasty employees is a common combination recipe for why local big brand name businesses are closing their doors to more internet style marketing with lower pricing & less attitude, Such online purchases from Amazon, Chewy etc are often most convenient for doorstep delivery but sometimes we need a particular item now so we shop locally, my new local shopping will now all be done at "For Pets Sake" & Pet supermarket where the employees and atmosphere have a customer focused attitude. If I could give the grooming service at PetSmart a minus zero, I would do so. This afternoon I took my 2.25 pound Chihuahua to get her nails trimmed, and the experience not only left my puppy traumatized, but me as well. I am absolutely disgusted by the poor quality of grooming employees, and the callousness of Ashley in particular. I have had my six month old puppy since she was 7 weeks old, and I have her nails ground, rather than cut, about every three weeks. She is very used to having her nails done, and is so cooperative that she practically hands the groomer her paw. I have never had one groomer complain about my little ones lack of cooperation, but have instead heard words to the opposite praising how easy she is to trim and how sweet she is. When I handed her over to Ashley today, she took her into the grooming salon and shortly thereafter I heard my little one yelping in pain, which prompted me to move to the window where I could see what caused her yelp. What I saw was her leashed to the grooming table, which was fine, but then I saw that Ashely had her back leg hyperextended and was roughly handling my little one to the point that, as I was looking in the window to see what her first yelp was about, she yelped a second time, which prompted me to knock on the window trying to get Ashley's attention, while at the same time turning and asking the front desk receptionist if I might hold my dog because I was concerned about how her little leg was being manipulated by the groomer. Keep in mind that we are talking about a leg on a puppy whose weight is just barely over two pounds. The front-desk receptionist went back and said something, which prompted Ashley to come out, bringing my little one with her, and asking me in a condescending, borderline belligerent tone, if I had a problem? I communicated to her that I was concerned with the way my puppies leg was being extended, so would it be possible for me to hold her while she finished her nail grinding. Instead of answering me, Ashley turned to another employee and asked if she would hold my puppy, and she then walked back into the grooming area and commenced grinding the nails while rolling my puppy on to her back, which anyone who works with dogs should know that unless a dog is comfortable with you, putting them on their backs with the stomach exposed is generally relatively unsettling to the animal. When Ashley finished with my puppy and handed her back to me, there was no friendliness or professional courtesy of any type. He body language and tone reflected that I was a nuisance not worth the effort of courtesy. My sweet little puppy spent the rest of the day and this evening glued to me, which is not her nature, and when I took her out to do her business it is quite evident that she is favoring the leg that was hyperextended. I will never, ever, ever take my dog to PetSmart for any sort of grooming because of the callousness that not only my puppy was subjected to, but also the same level of callousness that I was subjected to when I politely expressed concerns for the safety of my pet. The concerns I expressed to Ashley were expressed respectfully and courteously, so there was absolutely no excuse for the rudeness and dismissive attitude that she displayed towards me. read more

There are so many grooming places in Dothan. Don't even let PetSmart be your LAST RESORT. I had an appointment scheduled for my dog Beau at 4:30. PetSmart has groomed Beau before when I wanted him cut short. We have since opted to keep him at a typical Cocker Spaniel cut so we didn't want him groomed. Just shampooed/bathed. The appointment that I booked was for the following : For dogs who just need a bath to maintain a healthy-looking coat, clean ears & trimmed nails. service includes: Oxygen-infused bath with shampoo & blow dry 15-minute brushing Nail trim Ear cleaning, hair removal & flushing (if needed) Scissoring feet & pad shaving Sanitary trim Anal gland cleaning The appointment was for 4:30 so my husband left work, picked up our dog in ASHFORD then drove to DOTHAN for this appointment. Upon getting to the store he was greeted by employees that seemed to basically hate their job. Clearly they just wanted to go home. They stated that Beau needed to be groomed because he had "matted hair near his ears" Ok whatever so my husband basically realizing they were just coming up with excuses at this point to charge more for the service ... just wanted our dog bathed so he said ok whatever. Charge me for a groom then. At that point the employees said "when would you like to schedule it" They REFUSED TO HONOR OUR APPOINTMENT TIME! Needless to say my husband left with our dog having wasted over an hour back and forth with him not being bathed. I called the grooming salon in an attempt to speak to a manager and was informed they had no manager there and she wouldn't be working again until Saturday. So I asked who their district manager was. They stated his name was "Kevin" but refused to provide me with his last name or contact information. Finally she offered to transfer me to the store manager. I got on the phone with some man .... during our conversation my phone cut off so I immediately called back. A woman answered and placed me on hold. After being on hold FOREVER she picks back up and says "how can I help you" I said I am still waiting to be connected to the manager. She then said they had no manager there. I told her that I was just talking to one? She said she didn't know who I was talking to but there was no manager. I then said well who was the man I was speaking to that stated he was the manager. She then says "oh he left". Seriously? I finally got on the phone with someone from their corporate office and was told that a district manager would be contacting me in 1-2 days. I will NEVER even shop at PetSmart after this experience. read more

Wouldn't cut my dogs nails because he was a bit shy. He is shy however I never had a groomer turn him down. It was directly due to incompetence. Wasted an hour worth of driving and 30m dealings with unprofessional employees. Called the manager and did nothing to rectify the problem. I don't recommend this place. read more

I stopped in to buy a recovery vest for my dog, who is hating life in the cone of shame. When I took out the vest to put it on her, there was dog hair already covered on the vest. I plan to return this and order from Amazon since I'll be able to know that when I purchase something new it will actually be new. read more

Terrible living conditions for aquatic life! Almost every tank had floating fish with several with petrified ones sitting on the bottoms. Went to get snails and they had parasites nipping them constantly. When I mentioned it, the girl told me "well then don't get any!" I told her I was absolutely going to get them out there and treat them. It's been a while since being in there and now I know why the fish my son brought home last year from there contaminated and killed all of our other fish (yes, I should've quarantined them.) My dog gets anxious when he has to get groomed and I was telling the employees that and they acted annoyed and like it was my fault. I shouldn't have even left him after that. Took my tri-color border collie purebred into PetSmart to be bathed and clipped. They called me after 1.5 hours and said they couldn't clip him because he was too aggressive when they walked past the clipping tables filled with small dogs. They told me they had to put a towel over his eyes and carry him past the tables. I've always taken him to a high school vocational place to be groomed with inexperienced kids who never said he was aggressive and they groomed cats, dogs and rabbits all in the same areas. Incompetent groomers at PetSmart and if you valuable your pet you won't take them to this place in Dothan. Only went there because of the 3 month wait at a professional groomer. Beware! read more

So I made my dog appointment and I originally wanted a puppy cut but with enough hair in the car so my poor Yorky Bella can have a ponytail or pigtails of some sort so the cashier was very you know friendly and everything went smoothly until I pick my dog up that we knew that certain parts of my dogs for was married because she wouldn't let me brush her hair but I knew that the top of her head was it because I originally asked for a puppy cut now when I picked her up the hair was camouflage because she already had height tied up in a ponytail so I didn't really see it until I get home. I got home and took a ponytail down and it was the worst haircut I've ever seen in my life like all she had to do was part of certain section and she was going to leave law because she had enough hair that was a mat in the top to leave long and it basically was butchered I mean my dog looks like a meth addict now and I don't I just don't know what to do now so let's wait and let it grow out I will never bring my dog there again read more

Took my 6 month old Belgian Malinois to get the full treatment on July 3. Was told that $3.00 would be added to the bill because it was the day before a holiday. A bit pricey on some items, and predictable pricing on others. Got a great deal on a cat tree last week. Also adopted a kitten here but that's really from Save-a-Pet. I do not recommend this place at all I would give PetSmart a -5 starsif I could I went inside to buy my small dog an outfit and I found the one I wanted and when I got to the checkout they refused to sell it to me and said the would sell it if they rung up the outfit like it twice the outfit they we're trying to ring up was 20 and they wanted to ring it up twice in order to give me the one I wanted. Don't bother even stopping to buy fish , the employees have no clue about fish .. will not dip the fish you want ..then drop fish on the floor from their tall ladder , then put the same fish into the bag ,,removed the fish from the bag with their hand and return to the tank and turn around and re-dip the same fish again putting the same dropped fish into the bag , then dip another fish that you did not want !! so during this visit .. we had already purchased a 125 Gallon aquarium ,, so in short , the tank was returned before even leaving the store ,, this is not the first time we have had trouble in this store. mis-prices items and wrong fish being dipped ..will not return ever again .... read more

Great classes. They have a pretty good selection of food. Just know what you are buying -- some of the items are not that great for your pet -- most of the employees will let you know if you ask -- but I guess they have to sell the cheap stuff because people want it. Their grooming supplies are not stellar -- find someone who sells Safari (Pampered Pet in Enterprise). They have a great selection of everything else and reasonable prices. Since they are pretty busy sometimes it's just a good chance to socialize your dog in a pet friendly environment. read more

I took my 3 dogs to Pet Smart recently because their nails needed to be clipped & drimmeled. The price was very good, the service was good, however....when I actually saw my dogs toenails after being "drimmeled", they were all raggedy. They looked like cotton had gotten caught on the tips of their nails. Not happy. I've had their nails done in other towns I've lived in, none at PetSmart though. But the nails always came out so nice & smooth & round to the tips of their paws. My babies nails were just clipped straight across & I honestly don't believe the drimmel did anything to help at all. Sorry PetSmart, but fact is fact. I asked the lady who did the clipping about it & she said that was how it was supposed to be. Not hardly. Like I said earlier, other places had drimmeled their nails & they all came out smooth. But I do like PetSmart supplies for the dogs. I won't stop going just because of this but will find someplace else to take them to next time. read more
