They make you wait 30+ minutes for a "walk in only" dog nail trim. No way to even try to make an appointment. So I wait and then only 3 of my dogs paws are trimmed?? Leaving one still needing to be trimmed. It's hit or miss if there will be someone friendly or not working there. I have 2 dogs and I did have a wonderful experience here in the past getting basic nails trims as well as full dog grooms however the last few times I've gone staff have been rude and there has been way too long of a wait. Going to be looking for a new place unfortunately. read more

I adopted a cat from there they told me everything was fine. Within a month of having her I took her to the vet for a check up and she had severe gingivitis which was never mentioned by the staff and she has a severe yeast infection in her ears and many other problems as well. So far she has cost me 2 grand when the people at this place told me she's 100% fine. These people could care less about animals and their care. read more

Always very friendly ladies! I had a quick stop to try to get my dogs nails cut because I was worried about the back ones being too close to her paw. The lady was very friendly and made sure everything was up to date before she can take her in. My dog was well taken care of I got to watch from the outside so it wouldn't stress her out as much and her tale was wagging the whole time. Disabled persons with disabilities beware!!! It's apparently obvious that PetSmart cares more about people sitting in their cars waiting for a curbside order , and careless about handicapped accessibly to the store. Nothing like pushing away your disabled customers. You can see the curbside pickup is at the closest proximity to the entrance. All handicapped parking by state law is to be in the closest proximity to entrance. I'm hoping Petsmart takes this very seriously and will make the needed changes to accommodate handicapped individuals. Be better for those that often have no voice and nor choice to get results to make their life easier. Do the right thing here. read more

If I could give a negative review I would. Brought our small dog in for a wash and a grooming. Clearly told them that he has a throat issue and to not put a leash around his neck. Three hours after drop off, we got a call saying he is in the ER saying he can't breathe. Got there and he had a partial collapsed trachea. Had to put him on steroids and meds for two weeks. An hour after we got home the manager Nick called and demanded we pay for a partial service and not once asked how my dog was doing! He had no care in the world! $500 later and 7 phone calls to corporate with no response to this day! I would suggest if you love your animals don't bring them here since they don't love your animals. read more

I've been bringing all my dogs to Petsmart grooming for over 20 years. I never had an issue with the Crystal Lake location. They always did such an excellent job with pet grooming! I wish I could say that my experience is equally good at every Petsmart grooming location. I recently moved to the Bloomingdale area and brought my puppy to the Petsmart in Bloomingdale, three times now. Twice, she came back looking very uneven and her nails were still sharp, even though I always pay extra for nail grinding. At the Bloomingdale location, they do not always trim the fur on the dog's paw pads, but other locations do pay attention and trim the fur on the paw pads. This most recent visit, the groomer at the Bloomingdale location, completely shaved my puppy's tail! They said the tail was too matted to brush out. I've had four dogs with long, furry tails and this has never happened before! It looks so bad! Also, the fur on her ears and face is uneven and very choppy. I paid for the top/deluxe grooming package with an extra hydrating shampoo which was $97. My puppy does not look like she received professional grooming. I'm unhappy with the way my puppy was groomed and do not recommend the Bloomingdale location. read more

I find it embarrassing that Petsmart partners with Banfield and doesn't regulate some of Banfield's policies. To be exact, when your pet passes away Banfield keeps charging you until your renewal date comes which in my case is 9 months away. This is for a wellness plan I paid into for over 8 years. I don't plan of ever stepping foot in a Banfield or a Petsmart ever again. Disgusting and heartless business practice. read more

I took my dog there for the first time to get serviced and he came back traumatized. His whole beard was full of blood and they claimed that he bit his own tongue however my dog as a severe over bite so it wouldn't have been possible, after further examination his tongue was clipped by a pair of scissors. Have taken my 5 yr old Golden Retriever here 3 times for grooming. Each time has been with Chevy and she is absolutely AWESOME. My dog looks and feels fabulous after each appointment. I was pretty indifferent toward this salon when I first started coming. I came because they were convenient - long hours, close to home, situated inside PetSmart (not all locations have a grooming salon). The Georgia-pup and I never really had our own groomer and I brought her whenever my schedule allowed. Some technicians were good and others were less than stellar. We had two bad situations here. Once, sometime last year, a male employee cut my dogs nails too short and she was in pain for a few days. I brought her back the next week and she refused to let them touch her front paws. They made note of it in the system and we pretty much continued on without any problems but were never truly wowed with the services. A little earlier this year I found a great salon employee, Jenny F. She made coming to PetSmart Grooming Salon a delight. I went from dreading if my dog would be scared shitless to seeing a big change in her personality when she came to the store. She was still quite timid, but she wasn't cowering and trying to run out the door. She loves Jenny as much as I imagine a person could love their dentist or another professional whose job it is to inflict some level of discomfort for the greater good. The second bad situation we had was a few weeks ago. A surly employee "greeted" me and tersely "corrected" me when I tried to correct her over what I thought was a simple misunderstanding. She told me my dog was aggressive and couldn't have her nails cut because Jenny had put a note saying so. This was news to me, as her aggression had never been brought up and I had recently been told by Jenny that her nails should be both cut and ground because they were so long. I asked my boyfriend if he had been told differently and he said the last time he came in she had said she should just get her nails ground, but there was no mention of aggression. I called and lodged a complaint about the employee. Jenny was quick to call me back and let me know that there was some type of confusion and she had not put that note in my file; however, there was a note from someone previously and it was very vague. She assured me she had no problem with my dog and encouraged me to come in anytime and that she'd take care of us. I've since returned multiple times and haven't encountered the problematic employee. I highly recommend Jenny F or Ashley for any nail services. They are the best with dogs, in my opinion. I will continue to come to them for my dog's nail cuts and grindings. read more

This is my regular PetSmart - I mostly stop in for cat food + litter (and bird toys if there are deals). A few weeks ago I picked up some clearance Halloween costumes with the idea of torturing my poor kitties. (Sadly they didn't fit.) I went in the other day for more cat goodies and to return the costumes. My ONLY beef here is when I'm standing in a register line and the next cashier who hops on doesn't call the NEXT customer (rather, it becomes a free-for-all for whoever can run the fastest). So that happened and was annoying, especially since the line-cutters were leaving as my transaction was beginning. Gurr. I essentially did an exchange: the costumes for litter and treats. My cashier, Alex, pointed out a $5 coupon I had on my original receipt...so with my exchange + $5 off, I ended up paying $0.81. Thanks for saving me $5, guy! I'm certain the coupon totally would have gone unnoticed and I'd have tossed the receipt. :) read more

I visit this Petsmart location every two to three weeks to pick up food for my "babies". Katie and Tanner haven't taken a trip to the Petsmart lately because it has been so cold, but they recently reminded me how much they like it there. It's a clean store with friendly employees and the stock is plentiful. I can always find what I am looking for on the shelves. I have never come across an accident in the aisles and the staff always seems busy facing the shelves or talking with customers about their pets. We really like this store. My only wish is that their dog food of choice would go on sale every once in a while. read more

My dog loves going here, whether it is to visit the vet, to buy food, treats, & dog clothes. The employee there was very friendly and gave great recommendations for our dogs. She knew a lot and gave good advice. Customer service is great and knowledgeable and it makes me feel confident shopping there. I look forward to shop on the clearance racks as the deals are usually amazing on the things I want to buy. I rarely experience such excellent customer service. Employees here are pretty nice, and we utilize the grooming salon for our dog who generally hates to have her feet touched. They could stick some better brands and options for chinchillas-they don't have the lava ledges or Mizuno brand or a decent cage selection at least for chinchillas. Also, is this a weird promo or what? I thought the small animal pet bedding was buy one get one bag half off, only to reach the register and hear that it's half off a bag if you buy one Guinea Pig. Strange, right? Anyway, we will keep coming here but I'll have to read the signs more carefully. read more

AQUARIUM/FISH PEOPLE - this review is more for us. I have very successfully owned and maintained huge fish tanks (fresh-water) for the better part of near 20 years, so my review is very fair. - ALGAE EATER FISH - do NOT buy them here, even when they are on sale for $1. For whatever reason, they do NOT live more than a few days at best (some a few hours). Now you may be thinking - maybe my tank water may be 'off' with the PH balance or some other water condition. NO. The fish just do not wanna survive. I have bought bulks of them (10 a piece) at times, and within A WEEK, all 10 had died. I didn't even have one or two survivors. Now of course, there is a "2 week fish gaurantee", but, unless you live a block away or right behind the store - what good is this gaurantee? Everytime an algae eater or small cheap fish dies, what are you going to bag the individual dead fish up every day or every few days and use $4 a gallon gas to go return it to the store? Of course not - you'd be spending more in gasoline and wear-and-tear on your car to do that - AND THE STORES KNOW THIS. Most people don't/can't do this with the smaller, cheaper kinda fish. So in the end, there really is no fish gaurantee - thats why many of us buy bulk fish, we know we are going to lose a few, and hope that a few survive - but lose ALL 10? - In comparison - I have bought various catfish - all 10 (yes all 10) that I bought the same day as the algae-eater fish - ARE STILL ALIVE. I bought 5 albino catfifish in July 2010 (yes 2 years ago), 4 OF THE 5 are still alive - in same tank!! Many of my other fish I have bought here, from goldfish to zebras - have lived long periods of time. So...... ** Also, many of us use the Penn Plax 'carbon inserts' for our undergravel filter systems. There are usually 2 types - the "common size" inserts, and there is an un-common sized one. Go figure - for the better part of 6 weeks, the "common sized" inserts are all out of stock, yet there are literally 9 (I counted them) sets of the un-common sized inserts on the racks - because most people don't buy those. Common sense.. I had asked 3-4 times when the common-sized inserts would be coming in and each time I was told with the next shipments, usually every 4-6 days. This has never happened. I was back at the store 4 times and the racks were still empty of what I was told would be in. And no, they weren't 'all sold out' each time within a matter of days. THEY WERE NEVER ORDERED, despite 3 different employees (one is a very UNFRIENDLY older gentleman - very sour to customers when you ask him to help you getting fish). I contacted Petsmart corporate via their website and told them of my issues. I ended up contacting them 3-4 times, and GOT THE SAME AUTOMATED EMAIL each time, just signed with a different customer service reps name. I was told somebody would be contacting me further, and this has yet to happen. I tried 4 times - got the same old spam email, and just gave up. Finally, I got a 2 sentence reply from somebody for me to just contact the store and talk to somebody in the fish department in regards to all my dead algae eaters...this is totally fruitless. The fish are all dead, THEY DON'T LIVE, THAT'S WHY THEY ARE $1, whats the point?? They should be contacting ME about running fish tanks and survival reasons for fish, not me contacting them. hehe... I just gave up trying with this store... Just giving you all a heads up in regards to certain problems in their fish/aquarium supply departments. I only go here for fish supplies, so I can't comment on the other aspects of the store. But this aspect alone needs improvement, including their customer-service complaint department. read more

We came here for an adoption event, and did end up adopting a sweet little pup over the weekend! The store is nice and accomodating to the shelters that come in, but on this particular day, there was two shelters with lots of animals there. It got a little loud and crowded! Once our adoption was finalized, we shopped for needed supplies. They were so well stocked on everything! Tons of choices for harnesses, beds, food, toys,etc etc and we were offered help many times too- they even have associates that specialize in food choices, which is cool. Since we adopted that day, PetSmart also gave us a coupon book which helped us save about $15 on popular needed items. I liked that the coupons were for some of their most abundant brands. We found what we liked and then could save a few bucks on top of it! We had a very good experience here adopting (which isn't really PetSmart, but the space allowed for a relatively easy experience) and then shopping with the new pup. I'd gladly return! read more

The only store I set foot in on Black Friday. Canned food normally $1.75 was on sale for a buck each, so I basically stocked up for the winter. Yes, I bought that many Employees are always helpful, the grain-free dry food I buy is always in stock (quite a few in my area never have it per the online store locator), and the wee-wee pads I use are always on sale. It's worth the extra gas to come here for all my furbaby needs. read more

This is my local Petsmart and I can easily say every staff member I have ever encountered has been very pleasant and helpful. However, yesterday I dealt with an employee Jessica who far exceeded my expectations in the grooming salon. I had scheduled an appointment pretty last minute and the girl who answered the phone was able to squeeze us in because my lil Chihuahua doesn't take very long to bathe and furminate (sp?). He was shedding horribly as he is losing his winter coat! Anyway, when we arrived there was line and being that Gizmo gets stressed at the groomer as it is, I opted to wait outside the salon door until the dogs checking out cleared. After only a few minutes Jessica came out and said "You guys are waiting so patiently do you have an appointment?" I explained we did but were waiting for the line to clear because my lil guy was nervous. She understood this and offered to check us in outside! While checking us in she said their system showed I need proof Gizmo was up to date on his rabies vaccination. Luckily, our vet is Banfield who is attached to Petsmart. This salon was busier than I have ever seen it. But instead of telling me to go get the proof, Jessica said let's walk over and check. She verified everything with the receptionist and took Gizmo in. He was done in a good amount of time and came out looking and feeling like a million bucks!! When it is busy it is very easy to rush through or be short with customers. From beginning to end we received top notch customer service and a great groom for my nervous Chihuahua! Thanks Jessica!! read more

Store itself is always clean. We get our dog groomed here every other month and have never had a problem. Our dog seems happy when we pick him up, and his coat is shiny and lovely. We've never had a problem with bleeding during nail trims. The two times he's been sprayed by a skunk we've bathed him several times at home, then had the pros do a final bath at PetsMart...works like a charm. We actually adopted our dog at PetsMart during a rescue organization's adoption event seven years ago. I'm very happy that PetsMart does these adoption events. read more

I took my English Labrador to PetSmart in Bloomingdale, Illinois today for a grooming appointment. When I walked in with my dog, the groomer who came to check my dog in was not prepared to take my dog because she said my vet had not yet faxed her the vaccination information. I was told prior to bringing my dog in by a groomer earlier in the day that just the phone call from my vet office with updated rabies vaccination would be plenty to get my dog properly checked-in. It took awhile before my dog was brought in to be groomed, and in that time the staff was very discourteous and unfriendly. In the meantime, I had not confirmed which types of grooming treatments I wanted my dog to receive. The groomer bluntly blurted-out, "Your total comes to $44.95." (In that general price category.) It dawned on me that I didn't ask for any extra special treatments, so I asked her to please show me the bill. She had tried to add-on an extra service that would've cost me an additional $19+ that I did not ask for or confirm. About two and a half hours later, I received a phone call from (PetSmart) and came to get my dog. When I arrived, nobody was there to help me. My son and I must've waited 15-20 minutes before anyone got my dog out of the kennel so that I could take her home. The worst part came when I was checking my dog out and my dog growled at another dog. At this point, one of the groomers yelled at my 15-year-old son, saying, "If you know your dog is dog-aggressive, don't get him near other dogs!" This was not only an inappropriate response, but completely offensive! I will never go back to this grooming salon again. It was one of the worst services and one of the dirtiest grooming salons I've ever visited. read more

Stood there waiting to be helped finally a girl comes over and says "what are you here for pickup". I said no we want to get our dogs nails trimmed. She says ok there is a 5-10 min wait we will page you when we are ready We walked around the store. 20 min past. We walked back over and a worker was coming out. I said do you know how long it will be for the nail trim. She said oh sorry just a few more min Our dog is a puppy and at this point was getting tired. We walked a bit more. My kids were looking at the snakes and reptiles. I walked back over to the salon. At this point I have been in the store 45 min. Finally I ask the girl do you know how much longer. She looks and says "oh what are you waiting on" At that point we just left. They are disorganized and no one seems to be in charge.
