On February 13,2025 I scheduled my pet Milo for a full service grooming appointment at 1:45pm for the first time since I recently moved to the area. At the 3 hour mark I had not received a call and decided to pop in just to check if he was ready. Receptionists proceeded to ask the groomer Melody if my pup was ready to which she replied with an attitude "I haven't even gotten to him yet and I haven't even called her!" The groomer that asked her came back and apologized that he wasn't ready and I understood because they looked busy.After I left the store they called me 15 minutes later saying that my dog was ready for pick up. Upon arrival Melody didn't bring out Milo another groomer did and they did it so fast I was unable to ask any questions. After pick up I noticed that my dog was limping. Throughout the night my dog was whining and crying out of pain and when I took him to his primary vet and was he told us that my dog's leg was sprained; they must've pulled him too hard or he fell. He also told us that he needed to get X-rays done to rule out a fracture. It took 2 managers and 5 days later for Petco to provide X-rays. I took him to get his x-rays and the vet did not let me tell him what happened; he replied with "we heard what happened". X-ray came back with a suspected fracture but they stated my dog was not limping since he wasn't dragging his leg!! I don't understand what kind of limping they expected!! Melody is still employed and they don't want to tell me what happened. DON'T TAKE YOUR PETS THERE! MY PUP IS TRAUMATIZED!!! Their return policy is outdated. It's a hard 30 days - with/without receipt - regardless if you've used the product or not. Context: I bought a dog harness that's too big for my dog during an end-of-winter sale. I haven't been able to use it as we had an extended winter this year. It's still brand new in the packaging. I lost the receipt but they were able to look me up using my MEMBERSHIP. Still, they wouldn't allow me to do a return or even store exchange for a different harness. Stopped in when we seen the Adoptions today sign out since we were in the area. And know someone wanting to adopt a dog. We went through the whole store and there were no adoptions going on. The sign was out by main road and store is set way back. I don't know maybe they put it there to hopefully drive business is since it was completely dead at later afternoon on a Thursday The store was clean and well stocked but we were very disappointed in the false advertising about adoptions since i needed nothing for my pets I would have not stopped if I knew there were adoptions like they advertised. Cleanliness and staff would have gotten at least a 3 star review but having a sign out to bring in business but not honoring what you are stating brought it down to 2 stars read more

We love Petco where the Pets go! We have a indoor cat and a very spoiled shelter rescue dog that loves his visits to Petco! The store is always clean and we are always welcomed by the employees. The Mgr Jim is so nice and very helpful with any questions or advice. The grooming staff is very professional too! Let me start off by saying that this is one of my favorite places to come and look around for inspiration on fish tank design. I have purchased my two betas from this store and luckily they are great healthy and filled a little fish shaped hole in my heart. (If anyone is looking for a healthy & well taken cared for betas come here) PS: If you put your betas in anything under than a 2.5 Gallon tank (unless baby) YOU are the reason they are dying!!! I absolutely adore Holly who is one of the most beautiful and pure human beings i have met in a long time. She has a heart of gold. She also really seems to care about the animals in the store she takes amazing care of them while she is working which is the only thing they can ask her to do because she cant work 24/7 obviously. I also have never had a bad experience with any cashier, volunteer, or stocker. But i can confidently say that the animals look much better when Holly is in charge of them. (Also, corporate stop forcing stores to put leopard geckos in sand y'all big dumb for that) Now, this is the reason why they are getting one star for now. The other day i wanted to purchase a corydora. (He is a great little dude) But when i got to the fish section there was no one there. So i asked the cashier that whenever someone was available to come and help me out. He politely said yes he will and he paged someone. My significant other and I walked over to the fish and waited until the supposed store manager JOE came up to us and said "what do you want" i pointed out what i wanted giving him the benefit of the doubt. I noticed a Pleco that looked like a fuzzy noodle because of how long it was dead. I started to look around and noticed at least 15 other fish were dead and were dead for a period of time because of decay. I told him and he said the following "There is nothing i can do about it, our fish specialist is on his lunch break. Ill tell him when he gets back". In the way he was speaking he showed to him it wasn't that big of a deal that he had dead animals on the sales floor. I have worked at a pet store before and i know for a fact that if anyone brought that to our attention we would have immediately got on it and made sure to make it right in the customers eyes. This was shocking to me because not only was he being an asshole he was blaming someone else for the condition of the animals IN HIS STORE but he was too lazy to do anything about it. Also, he gets mad when someone tries to price match but that's not the customers problem since its right in the store policy that they do it. He puts the workers in a bad situation and is not competent to run a store in my opinion. This all shocked me due to when holly works there are never animals in that poor of condition, I hope they get more people like her (although she is a type which is hard to find). I did an order online and sent my granddaughter in. She was told she had to go back and get her ID which she did. She then was told she needed my ID. She's 19 years old! I have been Quarantine to my house because I've been sick and I had to go in with my ID to purchase hay and food for guinea pigs! She was so rude and ignorant! I'm usually at PetSmart girl, but do pop in to Petco because they have some more nutritionally sound cat food selections. I also like that they have different types of litter, such as World's Best biodegradable / flushable litter. Their store brand litter can be refilled at a bulk price and is pretty good clay litter. They have a limited selection of cheaper-quality cat food (Fancy Feast, Friskies, and Pro Plan - small 3oz. cans run between $0.67 - 0.99), but most of the stuff is in shredded or chunk form, so doesn't apply to my picky paté-only felines. They don't have nearly as many discounts as PetSmart: both on food and supplies like Nature's Miracle. Bird and small animal sections are limited as far as size variety: most bird toys are appropriate for small birds/parrots (i.e. parakeet to conure-sized). There are maybe 2 toys - and no perches - appropriate for medium-large sized parrots (Amazon to Macaw), so that's a bummer. Then again, I know parrot ownership isn't as én vogue as it was in the '80s and '90s.. Aside from canned food, I purchased $7 bird nail clippers to use on my new intact-clawed kitty. I like the open design, unlike the "guillotine" nail clippers in the cat section. Again, though, the limited selection was annoying: there was ONE nail clipper style in the bird section and ONE nail clipper style in the cat section. Customer service here is pretty non existent, unless you're specifically seeking someone out. I dislike their awkward cylindrical hand-held baskets; the curved bottom almost guarantees any flat bottomed things, like cans, will topple. In all, Petco is a good stop for better pet FOOD choices, but not much else. read more

My dog is a super picky eater. If she doesn't like dog food, instead of eating it she'll leave it all over the house so you suffer through midnight stabby foot pain when waking up and stumbling to the bathroom. It's the worst. We tried a few brands. I read reviews online. Finally found a brand that she would eat. It turned her into a pooping machine, but she was eating so i was cool with it. I went to Petco in my way home to pick up some more when we ran out, AND EVERYTHING BY THAT BRAND HAD BEEN RECALLED. Oh. Crap. Here we go again. I stared in disbelief for a few minutes, panicking on the inside, when one of the assistant managers came pver to help me. I explained about my picky poop machine ( the dog, people) and he showed me two brands that were healthy, good for picky dogs, and good for helping regulate GI issues. If she didn't like the first kind, i could bring it back for a full refund and get the other one. Not only did she love it ( YESSSSSS), but now she's pooping like a normal dog and not an abnormally drunk hellbeast. Going to Petco that day saved me a ton of time and frustration. Aquarium prices are very reasonable and stock of fish seem to be pretty decent considering. I was told that they get their shipments of fish in on Tuesday. Extremely disappointed by my visit here today. I came in looking for a martingale collar and the only employee I could find to help me was the cashier. She asked me to wait a few minutes while she called another employee to help me, but when I looked back, she was back at the register and told me it would be "just a few more minutes." It has been 10 minutes of waiting at this point. I waited another 10 minutes (so 20 minutes of waiting total) and still nobody came. I left and will never come back. Not good. My dog was shaved so close on his back end that it was raw, also, his tail was sprained. He is on pain meds for the tail.

I took my Old English Sheepdog in for a trim. He had a full show coat that we brush out daily. Upon arrival, the young lady told me his ears were matted, and they would have to shave them which I agreed to. Shortly thereafter, she called me to say his legs were matted as well, and they would need to go shorter on them as well. Instructions were only to go short in these areas and leave the rest of his coat in tact. When I went to pick him up, I didn't recognize him. They shaved him completely from head to toe, and did so poorly. I was told it was a good time to "start over". Horrible service and inexperienced employees. I will not step foot into PETCO going forward for anything. read more

NEVER IN ALL MY DAMN DAYS, I call Petco to get Bugatti in for a haircut sense I'm out in the burbs at my parents today, and the guy picks up and I said "I need to make an appointment asap today for my dog to get groomed when are your openings"? THE GUY PAUSES... He then tells me "yea sorry groomers is closed today, everyone went out last night together and didn't show up this morning and called off last min"! WAIT WHAT? K first of all why would you tell your clients that?! Second of all that's not my issue! Third of all EVERYONE THE GROOMERS AT PETCO ON BLOOMINGDALE ILLINOIS ON GARY AND ARMY TRAIL SHOULD NOW BE HIRING OF ANYONE IS INTERESTED! Not a damn care in the world either telling me this! If someone called up my hotel and I was short staffed due to My staff not showing up because they decided to drink all night I surely wouldn't be telling my guest this! 3 groomers not showing up would be termination! This review is for the grooming service only. And I really want to give no stars. We took our puppy in for a "light trim". This was stressed to the groomer. When we came to pick him up we were shocked to discover that Dante, the groomer, shaved our puppy nearly bald!! We were absolutely horrified and devastated. Our puppy had very nice hair as we groom him and rub him daily. Yet Dante tried to claim that he was all matted up and he required a shaving. Never did he call to consult us he just went ahead and shaved him. The shave was so close to the skin that you can literally see his pink skin and he has some bald patches!!!! Our dog is a yorkie/shih tzu mix but now he almost looks like a hairless chihuahua. I don't know what could have ever justified such a close shave. To top it off, the guy even tried to charge $6 on top of the regular cost of the grooming for it!!! This guy should not have a job as a groomer at all! And by the way....he solicited our service by coming over to us while we were in the middle of a puppy training class there!!! He approached us and said "ew, your dog is shaggy. You need to give him a trim." For perspective, our dog's hair wasn't even two inches long and it is (was) slightly curly.. Did he need a trim, yes, a little one only. Was he shaggy - not in the least. Did he have matted hair - NOT AT ALL!!! The manager was nice and ultimately handled the situation appropriately. I can only trust that he really was talked to as well. NEVER EVER WILL I GO HERE AGAIN FOR GROOMING AND I STRONGLY URGE ANYONE CONSIDERING USING DANTE'S "SERVICES" TO THINK TWICE. I have never posted a review in my life yet am doing so now because of how strongly I feel about how bad he is. read more

I followed a groomer here named NICOLE from petsmart. My furbabies have been seeing her for over 2 years now and I don't trust anywhere else!! My one English bulldog has severe skin allergies that require unique attention/products and she is more than willing to go above and beyond to accommodate my requests. Her schedule tends to be pretty full but to me that's just reassurance that everyone else is too aware at how amazing she is!! She has always been willing to squeeze us in no matter what. Without Nicole in our lives I don't know what we would do! Her care and attention to my babies is as if she is caring for her own. I brought my puppy here for his first grooming experience and Nikki (and the entire grooming team) took excellent care of him! Nikki explained the process, recommended options, etc. and made me feel confident leaving my puppy with them. I was given a 3-4 hour time frame and he was ready to be picked up in 3 hours - looking fabulous, of course! The prices are very reasonable and comparable to other groomers. Now all these animals have to find a new shelter and be transferred. Life is hard enough for shelter animals as is without being moved all over to new facilities.
