DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMAL HERE! I have brought my dog here three times now, and the first time I brought her there it was great and she seemed happy. I'm not sure if management or the workers have changed since, but it is has been a horrible experience the last two times and I will never bring her back. The second time I took her there they experienced a fire; I believe in the bird area. No one thought it would be responsible to contact me and let me know this happened until I picked her up in the afternoon the next day! They told me that there was a fire so if she seemed anxious it was probably because the alarms and firemen had been there during the night. I guess they have better reasons to take your contact information down other than alerting you of fires. Not one person even thought it would be kind to apologize for what happened. I decided that I could accept this and took her back recently. I know that my dog hates the rain, and with the spring weather like it has been in the St. Louis area it has been a constant occurrence. When I dropped her off I even told the staff that she does not like the rain so I was unsure how happy she would be with potty breaks. When I picked her up, the white fur around her neck was a discolored green color. Her collar is green so the only thing that I can think of was that she was out in the rain for most of the time and the dye from the collar stained her neck. This is completely unacceptable for a dog that is not happy with the rain, and that I informed them of this at drop off. I cannot believe that a place that charges $40/day for boarding would treat an animal like this. I know the other reviews are positive, and if I would have written a review after her first time boarding there I would have felt the same; but now things must be different so just beware that the company is not as good as it used to be and you may want to take your business elsewhere. read more

First of all, WOW! Whoever wrote that negative review HAS to be reviewing somewhere else. That is not the Petropolis we have known for over 25 years. Let me tell you the Petroplis we know. Petropolis is a family owned business that I would recommend to everyone who has a pet. We have used all of the services they provide, from grooming, to training, to boarding. We have had nothing but the best services provided. Our dogs have been greeted and taken care of with the love and compasion you would expect to recieve when leaving your pet in someone else's care. These people are animal lovers. They base their products and services for those of us who go the extra mile for our pets, because they are going to extra mile to provide a welcoming and clean environment to them as well. My most recent experience at Petropolis is one to share. I had taken our new puppy over to the Vet Clinic earlier that day and decided to stop into Petropolis to ask some questions about my curious little chewer. This pup chews on everything!! While I was in there, one of the employees from the hotel came out and pet my puppy. We started a casual conversation about the new member of our family. I told her about how we had recently lost our German Shepherd after 11 years. She knew his name immediately! She told me he was one of the best dogs she had ever met. She started to tell me stories about him as her eyes filled with tears. I tell you, THIS is the place that my pets will go when they need any services at all. We will drive the extra few miles. Or pay a little bit more to keep this family owned and operated business up and running because they have continually, year after year, made our pets a part of their family. My Dog loves Petropolis! The trainers are great, the staff is very friendly and are trained well. The facility is very safe and very clean. My dog has been many times for daycare and I can watch him on their doggie cams. They have special themed parties and take lots of video and photos of your dog. They get to play with toys in a safe way so that there is not fighting. They only take friendly dogs like like other dogs and play well with others, and this is a big deal if you don't want your dog getting injured. They require all dogs to have all vaccinations and also a fecal exam which is important. I really like that they have multiple secure play yards which have fans and total shade for rainy and sunny days so your dog doesn't get over heated or sick. They also have a large heated yard for when it's cold so your dog won't get frost bite and can play when it's cold or snowing out...other places do not have this and your pets are subject to long periods of time out in the elements. They also have a large pool/sprinkler fenced in areas for dogs that like water. All the staff are properly trained and they keep the play groups small and have multi people watching them. Safety is really important to me. I don't want my dog getting injured or ill just going to daycare. My dog has also stayed numerous times there for boarding. I always get him a private suite that has Skype! Then I can login and watch him when he isn't out playing. The suites also have TV for the dogs, cots and raised bowls. They let you bring blankets and toys from home. I reasearched and visited pretty much all the daycare/boarding facilities in a 20 mile radious (st. Louis ) and this is the only one I will use for my dog! read more

Our Dogs love Petropolis and that says a lot!!! I have used many facilities over the years and always felt horrible for having to leave my pets behind. Now I can travel and feel secure with the knowledge of how well my pets are cared for and not worry constantly. I can't say enough good things about the staff, they are... professional, courteous, caring, and kind...they go out of their way to make your pets feel loved and cared for. When I used "kennels" and "spas" in the past my dogs always came home acting wild from lack of exercise and attention, when I pick them up from Petropolis they are happy to greet me but they don't make that dash for the door...they say bye to their new friends and seem happy and relaxed. I love the report cards that show how much time your pet spends playing with others and how much they went outside and how they behaved. That is tremendous for me to be able to see that my pets got individual treatment and even what toys or new friends they played with, and the fact that they even let you know how much time your pet spent paying verses sun bathing well that just goes above and beyond!! We own what are considered "bully breed" dogs and this is the first facility I have ever found that didn't judge my dogs on what breed they are but solely on how they act and interact. There was no prejudice what so ever which I find amazing! I drive an hour just to be able to use Petropolis and would never consider taking my "babies" anywhere else. Wonderful facility! I have always been hesitant about leaving my dogs anywhere overnight. You can be sure that I did a ton of research before choosing somewhere to board my dogs. I did a few tours, and Petropolis by far was the nicest one I saw. From the moment I walked in, the receptionists were very friendly. They went up to each of my dogs, and greeted them, and made me feel like they truly cared about them. We went around and they showed me where my dogs would be staying. It also made me feel really comfortable that there is a vet right next door - in case anything would happen, doctors are right there. I really like the system they have in place where you can choose different packages for your pets. Instead of assuming that "once size fits all," they walked me through all of the different options, which include added play times and additional bathroom breaks. One of the reasons I wanted them to stay there overnight was to get exercise, and not be at home and just let out to go potty. So I chose the package where they got a few hours of daycare every day. Since the dogs were staying there a few nights, I decided to get them a bath and trim on the way out. The groomers did a fantastic job! I will definitely be coming back for the grooming. Overall, this is a really nice facility. Some places you feel like you want to walk right out after you go in, but not this one! It is a very safe and clean environment, and I know that I'll be coming back. read more

I have to work and had a hard time finding a place for my German Shepherd. She is very playful and loving and loves to run. I had her at one place and found out it was too small and also found out she did not like to share toys with other dogs. She has only played with humans, since I have no other dogs. When I took her to Petropolis, I talked about my concerns. I feel very comfortable with the care of her. They make sure all compatible dogs are in the same area to avoid any stress between the dogs. They are watched closely. Sky also has many medical needs, and they have been there all the way with her to make sure she is taken care of well. I use their doggie day care every work day and I have used their boarding when I went on a week vacation. It was the first time we were ever apart and she stressed out the first night, but they moved her to a bigger area, watched her carefully and gave her the attention she needed. I was the one that was a pain calling every day making sure she was okay. They were understanding. She gets good exercise, happy and a good social environment. It may be a bit high especially when you have to work every day, but when you compare what you pay elsewhere and what you do not get at those places, it is worth it to me and especially for her well being, mentally and physically. We just recently completed the "perfect pet" training package for our Chi-mix and are beyond pleased with the service we received. Our consultation/evaluation was with Roxane. Roxane was very professional and she provided honest, upfront expectations on what to expect upon completion of our training sessions. Our trainer was Lorrie and we could not be more pleased. We boarded the dog for the first week and a half of training and during this time, we received text updates and pictures. For our training sessions in the shop, we spent tons of time reviewing different techniques and she patiently addressed all of our questions and concerns and provided direction on how to ensure we were properly correcting our dog. Lastly, for our in home consultation, Lorrie not only spent time going over all of the commands with us again, she also worked with our 4 and 6 year old children to help them successfully give the dog the learned commands. We've always had dogs (larger breed) and also did training with them, but I have to say that hands down Petropolis has the other trainers beat. I can honestly say we have a different dog after completing the perfect pet training. Their services are definitely worth the price. My dog goes to Petropolis for daycare. He has also stayed in one of the suites for short boarding and I got to watch him on skype. Love that they have t.v.'s and computers in the suites. He loooovvvveeeessss it here! Everyone is so upbeat, friendly and knows me and my puppy by name every time. They really make him feel at home. They feed him his lunch, and put his bed and toys in his resting kennel like I ask them to for his comfort. He gets lots of needed exercise/socialization/play when he goes and i truly believe he enjoys it. Definitely tired when he gets home. I really trust them with him, the facility is safe, always clean, staffed, organized, and I have never had any issue. It's so important to find a place you and your dog like and one that is safe for your dog. It's worth the money for piece of mind! My dog also did his training at Petropolis with Lori, James, and Carrie and what a difference that has made! They are excellent trainers and dog lovers! Your doggie would love it at Petropolis! We dropped off our 12 year old cat for a cut at 8:30am. Having heard nothing from Petropolis, we called at 3:30pm and were told that the cat was "stressed" so they had to give her breaks and she wouldn't be finished and ready for pick up until 6:00pm. Total BS as this cat is laid back and never has been stressed about anything. We called back and said this wouldn't work and that we would be right over to pick the cat up. Lo and behold they said she would be ready in 45 minutes. Picked her up and the charge for the cut and bath was $110. Her crate was soiled so without a doubt they had left her in the crate all day. Similar situation with my son's dog...dropped off at 9am and not ready to be picked up until 6pm. I posted on Nextdoor asking for recommendations for a new groomer and was shocked at the negative comments about Petropolis...even from former employees. Will never use them again for our dog and 2 cats. read more

My dogs, Anjelica (8) and Margarita (4), are spoiled little Chihuahuas with some BIG attitudes! Roxanne and Rob are helping me socialize them (better late than never) and train them and we have seen a difference immediately. As I type they are being boarded and I can leave them worry free knowing they love the staff an...d are getting the social skills they didn't learn as puppies. The entire staff has been amazing with me (an over protective dog mom) and my girls (who bark, bite, growl and fuss). We are joining a group of real pet lovers and gaining practical knowledge and experience that will help me enjoy my dogs more and help them understand boundaries, rewards, obedience and appreciate other people and dogs. Petropolis is the only Pet grooming spa that I will ever take my Snowball to. The most conscientious, caring and knowledgeable staff that groom dogs. They play with ur fur babies and walk them before they groom. Vannessa is Snowball's favorite. She is so loving and really cares for Snowball. She told me he's easy to groom and behaves well. He loves the blow dryer. For a puppy of 16 months he's very calm and well behaved. I have referred many friends to Petropolis. They have an A plus rating. Today Vannessa put a glittery " football " sticker on him. He's so handsome. The bandana they put around his neck are darling. I love the new " baby " fragrance of shampoo. Took both of my boys there and didn't expect them to have any issues as they love playing with other dogs. One of my boys (Scout)is not great when his routine is changed and I received a message right away when Bailey noticed a behavioral change in Scout; he was showing signs of being uncomfortable in open play. She removed him from open play and slowly tried to work him back on, but he still seemed uncomfortable. Bailey took care to move him inside and letting him have one-on-one sessions with the staff (which he enjoyed). During all of this Bailey kept me informed through text messages what was going on. I wished there hadn't been an issue, but I felt confident throughout the day that both of my boys were receiving excellent care and attention. read more

Love, love, LOVE this doggie (and kittie) get away. The staff are really lovely people and always make coming and dropping off my huge pup a breeze. They are super friendly and very helpful. This is the ONLY place I will board my dog and the ONLY place I will take him because I know he will get the care, love and cuddles that he needs (yes I have taken him to a couple other places, no I will never recommend them and neither would my dog, he still barks at the one we pass on the way to Petropolis) I would encourage anyone who is looking for a place where you pup (or kitty) can go and have a LITERAL day filled with fun and loads of pets that is sure to ease the worriest of minds, then Petropolis is the place. ​ read more

Hands-down the best place to get your pet groomed in St. Louis. My dog hates going to most groomers but she loves Petropolis. The people that work there are so sweet to her and she actually gets excited when she walks in the door. Petropolis goes out of its way to make grooming (and boarding) a positive experience for your four-legged friend. My sister's dog has outrageous separation anxiety coupled with the urge to snarl at anyone who tries to pick him up but, somehow he let the groomer scoop him up like a baby and take him to be groomed. According to my mom, it was like an episode dog whisperer. My puppy comes back from her "spa day" with a spring in her step, bouncy/shiny hair and smelling better than I do! read more

I am writing to let you know how beneficial the training course at Petropolis was to me and my dog. In three weeks you trained Mini to ring a bell when she had to go out. She also learned to sit, down, come, and stay. Of great importance she learned to "be last" when going up and down steps so as not to trip you. Although she is still a puppy and makes mistakes from time to time she is really learning to be "the perfect pet". All of this is very good but the main benefit of the course is teaching me how to train and correct unwanted behavior. This will carry on long after the course is finished. I have three pets: two dogs and a cat. Like most people, my pets are a part of my family. When I go out of town for business, I don't want to just have a neighbor let them out and feed them a couple of times a day. I want to make sure that they are getting the exercise and care that they need. The great thing about Petropolis is that the dogs who stay there get to go outside all day and play with other dogs. And the cats have larger rooms than I've ever seen at other facilities, and they get play times. I feel like my pets hardly miss me when I come home, which tells me they are doing a great job. We've taken our lab to Petropolis since we brought him home as a puppy. (Almost 3 years at this point) He loves it and we love the staff there. Everyone is so nice, knows Reaves as soon as he comes in, and treats our pup so well. We haven't had any major issues and they made it right the one time something did come up. We like the villas that have video so we can check in on him when we are on the road. Reaves loves the water park and everything else that is Petropolis. More than anything, we are comfortable leaving a family member there whenever either Reaves wants to or we need to. That's a pretty good feeling having that level of trust in a facility. read more

I highly recommend the dog training at Petropolis. I am currently training my second dog. Rob is always very helpful with any questions or issues I might have with the training. Most places you sign up to take a 6 or 8 week training class. At Petropolis the dog training classes happen every week, all of the time! So if you are gone for vacation, work or whatever you can continue on with your training. With my crazy life it is really nice to have the choice of going to class on Tuesday mornings, Wed. evening and Sat. mornings. It is such a pleasure when you are out in the public and you have a well behaved and trained dog. read more
