If you have a poodle or some type of doodle, do NOT go here for grooming. They do not know how to properly groom a doodle and cover up their laziness by having you sign a form of consent to cut the doodle short. Cutting short and shaving down completely are different things. Nails were clipped but not filed. My poor puppy had matted hair on her legs and top of her head but the rest of her body was perfect and only needed to be trimmed. Instead of calling to discuss what the plan was to cut her hair and see what we would have preferred, they went ahead and shaved her down completely. If you do choose to go here please make sure to let them know to call you before they shave your dog completely. If we would have been notified that they were going to shave her down completely we would have picked her up after the nail clipping and skipped the haircut. read more

Don't be fooled by the nice workers at this location. I dropped off my dog today at 8am, couldn't pick him up until 6pm (closing). When I went inside to pick him up at 5:00 because you would think he would be done by then since I dropped him off about 9 hours ago. Nope, they told me "he's next!" So, i waited in the car for an hour and then I finally got a text that he was ready to be picked up. Also, when he got home from most likely being stuck in a kennel all day, he ran to his food and water and didn't leave it for 5-10 minutes. If you are going to keep a dog in a kennel all day then the least you could do is give the poor dog some food and water. Honestly just ridiculous. read more

We personally went to the St Charles location for a visit and we were offered a complimentary orientation for the next day by a "specialist" named Alex.We subsequently elected not to leave our two small dogs for orientation. We heard nothing from Petropolis about it until *forty minutes* before the close of business the day before boarding was to begin. Ashley called to say that we would not be allowed to board our dogs because they had not had a "mandatory" day-long orientation. However, if we agreed to skip a day out of town and bring our dogs for orientation on Friday they would *consider* boarding them Saturday, but it was "strongly suggested" we needed to have a backup plan in case they felt our dogs did not respond to boarding in a way they felt appropriate.  When I explained that we would be missing an entire day out of town, Ashley said she was sorry, in such a way as to make very clear she was not at all sorry, and said someone should have told us it was mandatory.  I will never recommend this place to anyone or let an opportunity pass to relate this story to every dog owner I know. read more

I know that they do not take the dogs out often and my dog used the rest room on his bed because they didn't take him out at the right times. They also don't feed the animals at the correct times either. I do not trust this place and if you are thinking about coming here for boarding please don't. read more

We won't be coming back! The first time when I picked up the dogs from grooming, they smelled terrible, like they had only been rinsed and not shampooed. I called and complained about it, and they said they used a scent free shampoo. Fair enough. So I gave them one more chance. This time, I had to send my own oatmeal shampoo so they would come back smelling clean and one of my pups still came home with uneven hair cut around his ear and a mat still in the hair behind his ear. For $75 per pup I would expect a better job. As for the boarding, we did this once and our pup was trying to get as far away from there as he could. He seemed traumatized by the whole experience. I was in the market for a new groomer since we had just moved and came across a Groupon deal for a full service cut for any size dog and it was a good price. I figured it would be a good way to test out a new place to get my dog groomed. First mistake. I have a 60 pound Goldendoodle who was, I'll admit, overdue for a haircut. I left notes on the Groupon voucher for the groomer and when he was brought in they inspected his hair with a brush before bringing him back. My husband showed them (held his fingers up) of how long we wanted him. Five hours after dropping him off they call me to tell me that they had shaved his body to quarter of an inch - which was WAY shorter than my husband advised. They said his legs were matted and that they would need to be shaved even CLOSER than his body which meant his legs would've been practically BALD. I asked the groomer who called me if he would be bald or look goofy and she basically stalled and wouldn't give me an answer and let me know the assistant manager would call me. First red flag. The assistant manager calls me and tells me at first they shaved him so close because my husband okayed it (wrong) and then it turned into he was matted to his scalp. I don't deny the mats because of the weather and playing outside - but I do know for a fact his entire body was not matted to his scalp like I was told. They also let me know that it would be an additional $40+ for "additional handling" since he was starting to get antsy. At this point, his tail, head, nails, and ears hadn't been touched. At this point, it was a bait and switch situation. When I was upset about the length and additional charges - it turned into if I didn't do it, he would have to have his mats surgically removed. His mats were nowhere near this severe and I'm pretty sure it was an effort to justify what he looked like. Then she goes on to tell me his head would also have to be shaved down and at this point I'm freaking out. I thought about it and called them back and told them to stop where they were at and that I'd pick him up. I wasn't going to stress him out anymore and I also wasn't going to pay the "additional handling fees" to have my dog shaved bald. I've taken him to my original groomer in worse condition than when I dropped him off here and every time he came back with a perfect cut and perfect behavior report card. He's NEVER been antsy at the groomer or even when we've bathed him at home. I picked him up and laughed at first and then actually felt bad for him. He probably got antsy because he caught a glimpse of himself in the mirror. His quarter inch shave job was choppy all throughout his body and he was practically bald in some areas. I know he wasn't "finished" but to fix this they would've had to shave him bald. His legs were half shaved all the way to his ankles and they just left hair there like a Clydesdale. I'm glad I called before they got to his head and tail because we both would've been devastated. Bottom line, we won't be going back. Not sure if I got the "groupon quality" cut or if whoever was grooming him messed him up and shaved him so close to fix their mistake. I mean he pretty much looks like a sheep that was sheered out in a field. I took him back to my old groomer who's an hour away and they died laughing. He left there with hair still on his head and tail (which petchopolis was gonna mow down also) - THANK GOD. The cherry on top is I wasn't refunded or even offered a refund. My husband took our dog on a business trip with him and dropped him off at Petropolis for a couple hours of daycare while he had meetings. He called them a day before, reserved a spot and they contacted our vet to confirm the currency on the vaccinations. We are so glad everything worked out the way it did because our pup had a blast! They called my husband during the day just to let him know that Chester has a great time and that he's ok. When he picked him up (after 5 hours of daycare) Chester was exhausted and happy! He even got a little goody-bag and a certificate 'of good conduct' ;) We were very pleased with this place and will definitely be back if we are in the area! Thank you!! read more

I still have my kitties in boarding, but just wanted to make sure I gave a shout out review to Laura. Both of our cats have been at Petropolis for nearly three weeks. We are selling our home and never realized how much of the general populous hated cats until we started showing the house. We had no choice but to board them and had to continue extending their stay numerous times because we had no offers yet. Needless to say, we finally got an offer but it took some time to sell. In that time we were really worried about how long they've been at boarding but every interaction I've had has reminded me that Devin and Binx have been so cared for. Laura and all the team members in the cat suites have kept us updated and made something as difficult as long term boarding much much easier on us. So, thank you Laura for all your help. We are so grateful and wish we weren't moving because we wouldn't think of taking our pets anywhere else! read more

My dogs and the dogs of my family are my life. They are constant companions who I only trust their care to people who feel the same way. I don't like leaving my pets, but when I do, I know they will be well taken care of at Petropolis. It's nice for my fiancee and I not to have to worry that are dogs are getting proper care and exercise. Both of our dogs are still pretty young, so having a place where they can get extra social interaction as well is great. I've used Petropolis for their grooming services as well. Always had a great experience. The staff is super friendly and the dogs look great after they are finished. Just a cool place to visit if you are down in Chesterfield and are a pet lover. read more

Paxton, Samson, and Guinness (my small pack of mutts) go nuts for this place. I try to take them to doggie day care (yes I know) once a month when they get groomed. They come home clean, happy, and socialized, and it is pretty cost effective as an add-on to their normal bath service. Doggy daycare is more or less a dog park with drop off service. There are anywhere between 10-30 or so dogs that play outside together in their fenced in doggy playland (it even has a doggy pool) while being supervised by a staff member. Oh yeah - you can even get a dog treat from the bakery when you leave. It is a great way for me to pamper my pooches! read more

I am just about as picky about my Yorkie Brewster's haircuts as I am mine, so I am glad I have found Petropolis. Coming from LA, I worried I wouldn't find a non-chain dog boutique that could do a cute puppy cut. But I trusted other reviews and took Brewster in. That was 1.5 years ago, since then, I have personally been to 6 hair stylists in STL, but Brewster is still going back to Petropolis for her cuts. The store is super cute, lots of nice toys, treats, clothes, etc. and my favorite part -- they have an enormous live turtle that lives there. Brewster loves to look at him. read more

My dog has megaesophagus and after he was diagnosed I was very hesitant to leave him, but Petropolis totally set me at ease! Petropolis let us tour the facility before our scheduled travel, and they answered all of our questions. Previously I had a negative boarding experience at The Watering Bowl and the staff at Petropolis did a great job answering my questions about what they would do differently to keep my dog healthy and happy. The staff was willing to feed my dog by hand and to hold him in an upright position after eating to prevent pneumonia (because of the megaesophagus), and they administered his medications without any trouble. I love that I can call in to check on my dog every day and the staff is friendly and never exasperated or annoyed. I never feel like I'm being rushed off the phone. My dog got cold while he was there and they put a sweater on him for his outdoor time. I feel that is above and beyond excellent customer service! At The Watering Bowl it never felt like any of the staff was familiar with my dog, but at Petropolis everyone from the staff at the reception area to the groomer knew my dog's name and shared stories with me about his personality and behavior while he was in their care. For as long as I live in the area, I will never board my dog anywhere else. read more

Just got my 2 dogs washed there. They include nail trim and ear cleaning in the wash. My dogs are usually bathed by me and even though they like to play in water outside, they hate baths. My dogs were very nervous when I dropped them off so I was worried about how the day would go. They are 50 & 70 lbs so they can be hard to handle if they don't want to be somewhere. When I picked them up they seemed happy and they smelled great! The staff was very friendly and made me and my dogs feel at ease. The first wash is $40 which is a pretty good price, but after that it's more expensive. Other than the wash it looks like they also have boarding, veterinarian, and training services. All of which look pretty pricy, but probably worth it because it looks like there are a lot of happy and well behaved dogs there. read more

I have been incredibly impressed by Petropolis. I was stuck in Chesterfield with a 5 month ChiWeenie about two months ago because my Pet Sitter backed out last minute. I dropped Morgan off based solely off the reviews online. I was super nervous but I knew I would be back in just a couple hours-I just needed her safe. I came back to a happy but exhausted puppy (awesome for travel and not easy for my little ball of energy). We went back to the hotel and I didn't have to spend the next two hours walking her and wearing her out in the dark-she just wanted to curl up next to me and sleep. Morgan and I travel a lot more together now (her social skills have improved dramatically)-almost weekly because I trust the staff at Petropolis. I walk in, give her a hug and hand her over for a very reasonably priced daycare as I head to meetings. I can not recommend the daycare services enough. We used grooming a few weeks ago with special instructions to go slow and help train my little one to enjoy the pampering-the staff listened and did a great job with her. With such a young puppy I can be somewhat high maintenance and I am very picky about who watches my fur babies. Each time I turn her over to a staff member I feel good-they always greet her and some even remember her now. My only hope is that one day monitors will be up outside so that I can Skype in and watch her make friends-and maybe extended hours. Petropolis-you've allowed me to carelessly travel for work with my one of my best friends-I can not thank you enough. If our in-home sitter isn't available to watch our fur babies on our vacation in December we will probably bring them down for the week-your service are that good. My fabulous dog Rufus loves this as his home away from home. He has been there when I've had to go out of town and he absolutely loves the special attention he gets there. During the day he gets to play with all the other dogs and loves the socializing he gets. And when he needs grooming, they are the top of the line in my book. He comes away looking like a rock star dog! There's a veterinarian on site as well as a fun and wonderful pet supply boutique with the most unique toys and doggy accessories. Worst Grooming my dog has ever received ! We had boarded our dog here several weeks ago and, based on that great experience, decided to try their grooming services. We were given a $40 intro rate to "see how great the service is with our Nationally Recognized groomer." I dropped her off at 9:30am and was told that she would be ready at 3:00pm ( odd that it would take this long to me). I was told this was so Bella could spend time getting comfy with everyone . No worries, I thought . I spent time giving very specific instructions on how we wanted her groomed ( standard schnauzer pattern with 1/2 skirt and legs, nothing off the beard, and nails grinded). I would have thought this was a walk in the park for a "Nationally Recognized" groomer. I arrived at 2:40pm to see that my dog was on the groomers table still and the groomer was just starting the pattern -- apparently she was also training two others as there were three of them standing around the table. As I was watching I saw another groomer walk away from a table while she had a Wheaton Terrier in the groomers loop on the table ( MAJOR safety issue !) I waited patiently while the girl worked on my dog and was noticing - even from a distance - how choppy the cut looked. I had assumed the she would be going back over Bella with a finishing blade... I was wrong. When the groomer brought her out to me I commented on how choppy the cut looked and I was told "...oh that is not choppy, she just has curly hair..." Really ?!!? on a schnauzer ? She has been groomed for 5 years and has never had a "finish" this poor. When I asked to confirm that her nails had been grinded ( rather than just clipped) I was told " oh no, she ( Bella) would not stand for that at all..." again, very hard to believe since she had gotten her nail grinded every 6-8 weeks of her life ... and actually enjoys it ! When I checked out I was initially charged $58 for the groom - which I corrected them on and told the girl that I have a hard enough time paying the $40 intro rate for this poor of a cut but certainly would not pay $58. This prompted no reply. When I got home and looked even close I found that there were multiple spots on her head and face that were missed and, against the instructions, they actually cut her beard as well. I debated calling them back to have the cut fixed but honestly do not want them touching my fur baby again. I will wait 2 weeks for some of this to grow out and then take her back to my normal groomer ( Storme at Chesterfield Petsmart !) to have her cleaned up. BTW- the grooming area was very disorganized as well -- having been in the Pet Retail industry for almost 10 years this was overall a very disturbing experience for me. I may take Bella back for Day Care and Boarding, but never again for grooming. read more

The first was explained that it was just to orientate to the facility. No "real" training. The second package is $1700 and the "premier" package is $2,100. What a ripoff! Don't use this place! The experience started ok. My little dog went for a play date to see if she would like the place (and of course what extra services she would do good with because they cost a fortune). But nonetheless, we dropped her off for her four day stay that also included a full day at the spa (groom, bath, nails). We went back to get her and she had diarrhea for the following two days and her hair cut looked like my grandson did it (he's 4). But outside of that, she seemed mostly unscathed. My husband paid and the lady said she would email the receipt; to the same email that they had been communicating with me at. Fast forward A MONTH and on the Sunday after Christmas I get a call from them telling me that I owe them $140! WHAT? HOW? Then Haley Hopkins proceeds to tell me that apparently their system had a glitch and only took part of the payment and she wanted the rest. I told her I would look into and get back to her because no one should be able to just call you up randomly and ask for your credit card number. So I hung up and was furious because I thought, what would happen if Wal mart did this ? As I checked my records, I in fact never got an original receipt-my fault-hard lesson. Anyway, I called back and asked for a manager and Haley proceeded to tell me she was the manager; until she decided she didn't want to deal with the issue anymore at which time she said she would outreach a manager. Well in the meantime I checked our account and it didn't appear that the money had been taken so my husband went and paid it. But seriously, this place is just not worth all of this. Be aware that if you don't want your dog to look like she got an at home covid cut and you have to figure out who's calling you for money on a Sunday- go to Kennelwood! I will be taking my business back there, where I should have stayed in the first place. read more

In 2006 I became quite the fan of Petropolis, as my dog at the time went there for boarding, daycare and grooming... come spring/summer 2018, with a new puppy, (1yr old Pit/Hound mix), I decided to go back to Petropolis for basic puppy training... not only did I waste $1300, but I paid it for NOTHING!!!! The trainer, Tony, did absolutely nothing for our dog... the best thing that came out of it, was a $20 loose lead she wears to help her walking. The trainers clearly didn't want to take the time to train our dog and help her with her socialization skills. The BIGGEST waste of money, AND they told me my dog was playing too aggressive....hello, she's a hyperactive puppy and I specifically told the head trainer, Lorrie, that I wanted the training focus to be on "how to play properly as a puppy"... The trainer, Tony, who was pretty rude on arrival and honestly an incompetent trainer, then advised she cannot play with other dogs, they singled out my dog during play time to no play with other dogs, only by herself. Needless to say, I was and still am beyond pissed. Come Jan 2019, we found a new unique and WONDERFUL daycare/boarding company in Edwardsville, IL, called Whisker Bones, where they welcomed our hyper dog with open arms and said she not only DOES NOT play aggressively, but she made tons of new furry friends, played for 5 hours straight with no issues and was able to enjoy being a hyper, fun loving pup!! They gave her the chance she deserves!! Petropolis Training is all about the MONEY, and treating each dog as a dollar amount.... NOT actually training the dogs. Do NOT waste your money here for dog training. The Petropolis staff is great, but the TRAINERS need quite a bit of training themselves! read more

I've boarded my cat here 3-4 times over the last year now. He's an indoor / outdoor cat, so I'm always very nervous to leave him in a cage indoors. The last couple of times we've boarded him have been 7-10 days, and he's been so confident and extra affectionate every time we pick him up. I hired a house sitter once and after our long trip he didn't approach us for close to a month and it took him Many more months to go to my husband. I expected the worst after boarding but the opposite was true. Whatever they're doing at Petropolis for cats they're doing it right! For our last stay, the staff truly went above and beyond for my my cat and a couple of health problems he had. I came home to a healthy boy and couldn't be more pleased. Well, they were fantastic for the last several years but just plunged in our family's book. The quality of their services have always been excellent and our dog has always been happy to to run in and stay for boarding. Recently, it suddenly changed. My guess is they changed owners or got a new marketing chief or some other slick consultant. In a matter of weeks their daily rate for boarding rose from $35 to $60 (about double the market rate) and now answer the phone with clearly scripted, unfriendly marketing blabbering about now being the #1 rated kennel in America. Well, you went from a kennel that we raved to everyone about to one we now will share as a story of how business can turn a great reputation to $h!t within 2 weeks based on a badly flawed marketing plan. We do value paying for premium services for premium product and service, but this is an outrageous increase with inhuman scripted persons now having become the face of the company. My little Aussie Pippa had been giving us some trouble at home the past few months. I called Petropolis and set up private sessions with Roxanne to come to my home. We are so glad we did. Pippa did pretty well at the several obedience classes that I had been taking her to, but it did not help with her the home behavior issues ( refusing to come inside when called and harassing our friends when they come over). Roxanne worked to figure out what would work best with our dog. Pippa now listens to us at our house, not just at obedience school! read more

So disappointed, I wish I could give zero stars. My dog looks awful. I literally burst out laughing until I realized I paid for this awful mess. He's nails were not cut. He is completely shaved down. My boyfriend picked him up so I didn't see him until he got home. I called them as soon as I saw my dog to talk to the groomer because there was clearly a disconnect in what I wanted done but they were not available. $55 to just wait for his hair to grow back and an additional $13 to take him to a proper groomer to have his nails cut. Today was their first day at Petropolis and they seem to have loved it, in that they are sleeping like furry rocks. They spent the morning playing and the afternoon getting groomed. My dog is my child, and I would never leave him at Petropolis. My dog is a boxer/pit mix. Yes, I understand that pit mixes can be a liability. They are very strong dogs and should be thoroughly evaluated before put in a social setting. My dog was evaluated, passed with flying colors, and we were invited back for free day care. Hoverer, I'm not going back for their free daycare. During the "aggression test" I feel my dog was mistreated. He first tried to play with the "dummy dog" and then got scared of it. This women who was administering the test kept jabbing him with the dog while he was still scared. Then she started actually hitting him with it, saying "oh, this is funny." She later concluded: "well, I guess he's worth a try." I'm sorry, but i would NEVER leave my dog with anyone who thinks its appropriate to hit a dog with a toy, or thinks its "funny" my dog was scared of her ridiculous test. My feeling was this lady trainer has a personal vendetta against pits or even mutts/rescues in general. Everyone was nice, except for the lady trainer who administered the test. She never even talked directly to me or made eye contact with me. Even though there was one "bad egg" in the bunch of trainers, I would NEVER leave my dog there. read more

My dog loves this place and goes crazy when we pull into the parking lot. I've used it for nail trims, daycare and boarding. They have the dogs play together during the day, which was really appealing to me since it sounded way more fun for my dog then sitting in a boarding cage all day. However my small dog isn't always super friendly so I was a little nervous if this kind of set up would work well for him . They offer a free day of daycare for new clients so I went ahead tried it out and they promised to ease him into the environment. Well 6 hours later I picked up a very happy dog who quickly fell asleep and we had a whole goodie bag of stuff from them. Boarding went well too. No incidents and I felt better being away knowing my dog was having fun playing with the other dogs. The only drawback for me is their hours, which are flat out impractical. I work in healthcare all over St. Louis and I can never use them for daycare while I'm working since my shifts start at 8am or end at 6pm. It's also a pain when I have to travel out of town since it usually means I get back into town at 6:30pm knowing my dog was locked in a cage all night until I could come get him the next day! read more

I agree with the two most recent reviews of Petropolis -- while I don't know much about what is happening once my dog is taken behind closed doors (I would hope training & care here isn't THAT terrible), I do know that they have jacked their prices way up over the last few months. We are new (7 months) to the area and the only reason we started taking our dog here when going out of town was because I purchased a groupon for boarding for about half the price back in January. We've boarded our dog here about 5 times or so, for no longer than 4 days. The last two times we boarded her, first time--1.5 days--was $90, second time--3.5 days--was $228. The first time in said story we weren't even asked what 'package' we wanted - they just automatically signed us up for the silver (middle) package, when we would have chosen the bronze (lowest) because we aren't the kind of people who want to spend an extra $15/day so that our dog gets 'tucked in' at night... And when I say '1.5 days', I mean she stayed overnight and we were told if we picked her up by noon the next day that we wouldn't be charged for a second day, but since we were out of town we got back to town at 1pm--one hour difference!--and were charged for 2 full days. Similar story goes for the second 4-day boarding. I understand these are their rules, but we are talking about a full day's charge for picking up our dog an hour later than their cut-off. Bottom line: I give them one star because I personally think spending almost $100 for your dog to be boarded at a kennel for 24 hours is ridiculous, and moreover spending over $200 for 3 nights stay is equally ridiculous. And after this last time, we've had enough of being overcharged by them and won't be sending our dog back. read more

Having never boarded my dog before, I was extremely nervous having to leave him somewhere. They are definitely a busy place- I had to hold a while before making my reservation and it's obviously a script/sales pitch they read to you. Regardless, the staff was incredibly nice and answered all of my questions. The day of drop off was hassle free and easy. I called each day just to check in and was never treated poorly or like I was a hassle. My dog must have had a blast because he was worn out ALL day the day we picked him up. I definitely recommend this place and will be taking my dog back if I ever need to board him again! read more

I really wanted to like Petropolis. I had such a great conversation with the girl on the phone when I booked the grooming appointment for my Pomeranian. She was incredibly helpful, offering suggestions, taking notes and going so far as to interject personal anecdotes into our conversation. I spent probably 20 minutes on the phone with her answering questions about how I would like my dog groomed. When I dropped my dog off, I had no confidence that they would even be able to identify him from any other Pom that might be there that day. No information was taken from me other than to go over AGAIN how I would like to have him groomed??? I thought this was all covered?? Anyway...When I picked him up, it appeared that he had not even been groomed! It was obvious he had a bath and his nails were slightly trimmed, but not even his belly had been shaved. I have never taken him anywhere that they did not clean him up. Everyone that sees him asks what happened to his grooming appointment because they knew he was supposed to go this week. He looks like nothing has been done. I'm sure that Petropolis is great for some dogs, just not ours. read more
