Even if you're going by yourself, I do recommend reservation instead of walk in which you can do on their website just because this place is popular (for a reason) fairly priced for what it is and how many items you can choose from. Petroglyph is still one our favorite activities to bring the kids. More recently we found out about their take home kits! They had large kits at $110 and small kits at around $60. The large kits came with 10 ornaments of various designs, and the small had 5. The kits come with brushes, the paint, and a palette. We bought the small kit and got to pick 10 paint colors. We brought the kit home and painted them like we would in studio. Once done we brought them back to Petroglyph. Since these were ornaments, they did tell us if we wanted them before Christmas, we needed to return them by a certain date. We did make the cutoff and they were ready just as they said. The ornaments turned out beautifully! We loved how it was something we can do at home and will probably be doing another kit next year! read more

I reserved the party area for my birthday. I had a party of 10, including myself. The total came out to $620. This included the $7 extra that two people went over the covered amount. When paying, it is on one tab only. It is $48 pp (not including tax). In the $48, you are covered for the supplier usage, a $33 item to paint, and the firing of your piece. Olivia was our host and she was wonderful. She was very helpful in teaching us the best ways to paint our pottery and how to fix any mess ups. I opted for the custom birthday plate that is an add on for $30. Unfortunately, it didn't come out the way I imagined. We were given a black pencil for the guests to write on my birthday plate. Upon picking up our pottery, you can't see the names written. You have to look REAL close to see names. All I see is my name and a bakers hat at a glance. I wouldn't have paid $30 more for my name and a hat on a plate. We should have been given a white pencil to write with. This was our first time here and so we were clueless and thought nothing of it. read more

We had a very nice time here on a Saturday morning. It was our first time & a pleasant staff member went over instructions, provided information about the materials & process, & gave design tips. We were set up comfortably. After you finish, they clean up for you. All the staff we interacted with were friendly, personable, & helpful during our session & at pick up. The studio is bright & modern. Most tables are inside, but there are a few outside. Mellow music plays in the background. Two sinks are accessible to wash up. A restroom is also available to use. You may have to scoot to pass tables/other people to get around, but it's roomy enough. There was a variety of items available to design, as well as seasonal choices. They had materials besides paints & brushes--ways to add text, stamps, sponges, lace, etc. Aprons were available to use. Several tables were reserved & we could hear when a waitlist started. They can get busy, but you can still take your time. You can bring in food & drinks to enjoy as you work on your item. They will take reservations for groups of 5 or more & you can plan parties there. It's a fun, creative, relaxing experience to be enjoyed by anyone. However, it can add up & get pricey with your studio fee & what you pick to paint. We really like how our finished pieces came out. We would come back again as a special activity. read more

I took my mom here for the first time and it was such a fun experience! We were greeted by friendly staff and she briefly explained the process of choosing a ceramic with different price tags on them. We then get to choose our paint, paint brushes and other tools for the ceramics we chose. The place has adequate seating and clean supplies, and there was no time limit either which was pretty nice. The studio price is $15 for adults and the ceramic price gets added on, and we pickup our ceramics within 4-5 days. If you're not able to pick it up by then the studio holds it for 30 days! read more

My daughter and I were greeted when we arrived. This was our first time here. The staff informed us how everything worked. We didn't have reservations but could take a seat any area that was open. We got to pick which items we wanted to paint. We spent maybe an hour or so there. We picked out our own colors, brushes and other items we may need. Staff members explained the price point for items as well as the fees for adult and kids. My daughter enjoyed her time here. We plan to come back in the fall to paint some Halloween items. I thank the staff for their understanding and kindness. Once we were done I was told keep the receipt because I would have to pick up the ceramics after they were glazed and finished. Really cool space. Amazing and friendly staff. The pieces are a bit over priced but I really loved the atmosphere and the people. It's a very chill spot and would be perfect for a girls night out or a date night. The studio fee is $15 and there weren't many inexpensive pieces. I think $22 was the cheapest for an actual piece that was like a letter or magnet. You can't bring your own pieces either. So you're looking at $80+ just for two people. It would be 5 stars for me if it was a bit cheaper or I could bring my own pieces. read more

It's time for an Update since my last review four years ago. We are obviously regulars with 170 check ins and More than half the pictures posted are mine. My best friend and I used to come almost every weekend but now twice a month with family obligations. As with anything, the prices have gone up. It is now $12 child and $14 adult for a studio fee and the annual pass no longer exists. However, you don't have to finish in one sitting. If you are local, it is best to start a few pieces that will last you a couple trips. We have gotten more experienced and have been doing more elaborate pieces that take longer. For a family with small children, this could be an expensive experience. But for a girl's day out or a date night, I think it's worth it. The staff is really nice. Jen the manager is awesome! Who is also very talented and you will see a lot of her works displayed. She invited us and other regular customers to be a part of their good day Sacramento segment! This place has been around since the 1990s so I'm okay with them raising the prices to keep a float. I always enjoy supporting the small business. Oh and get there right at opening to ensure a seat is available. They tend to get busier as the weather gets colder. We have walked away a few times because they were packed. Wait time is hard to gauge because some people take an hour and others can take several hours. read more

A fun place to bond and get creative. I take my 13 yo daughter who loves to paint here. Staff is helpful but often running so patience is key. The only other point to mention is the sticker shock. I understand each piece of greenware, includes a share of the rent, employment, supplies, etc.., but knowing b the WS cost of greenware, it took a minute recover. Lol. However, the sting fades when yin return 2 weeks to pick up the fired and completed piece and take it home. Good times, good wares, and good service. What's not to like!? read more

I've seen these before but never actually have been to this place to paint ceramics (petroglyphs?) before but we were able to make reservations in advance with a group. (they fill up fast due to covid and reservations only right now). I was a bit confused on the process at first, but quickly figured it out by watching everyone. I think they sanitize everything once you use it, but it was unclear and some of the colors ran out quick. It was pretty busy with people so just a heads up if you're avoiding crowds. I'd opt for the larger pieces as they seem to be the best bang for your buck, not too much more expensive than the smaller pieces. There's also a small $12 studio fee. It was a fun Sunday! read more

This place is so fun! I'm not much of an artist but my kids love it and I'm so excited that I get to introduce my nieces to it this Christmas. They are currently not open for painting but have retail shopping available and to go paint kits too. WOW WOW WOW !!!! My wife and I have been coming here for 23 yrs. Today, however, we were given an extra special treat. One of the wonderful young ladies that work here, ESSANCE, helped us. She went so far beyond the normal that it truely made my day. She helped make my mug, that I was painting the Cat in the Hat onto, extraordinary. She actually painted some ultra fine lettering for me. I was not able to get it right. She, however, was, & went over it twice. She totally saved my mug and made it exceptional. I came here with my work as a team building event for Halloween. It was perfect. First you pick out the piece that you want to paint, then they have a million paints, brushes & tools to choose from. It takes quite awhile to paint a piece, so I would make sure that you have ample time as you want the paint to have several coats. Once you are done, they glaze it and fire it. This is the most amazing place! They have so many pottery items to choose from and prices range from super low to very reasonable. They have tons examples that show you ideas for what to paint. The ladies work there very helpful and kind. I convinced my granddaughter to come with me even didn't think she would like it, but she loved it! She painted two things and can't wait to go back. She's a teen so this is a really big deal that I have something fun to do with her. We both love music and the super cool vibe of the place. Also the ladies that work there are helpful and they are constantly circulating to see if you need help or to empty your water dish and bring you fresh. They let you take the paint bottles to your table and they have so many supplies, stencils, stamps, tape, writers and puffy paint. I have lived in several different state, and then to many different pottery painting places, including some in Sacramento area, and this one is by far the best! Also, the location is amazing! The idea of this place is so fun! I have a gazillion plants at home and now I can make custom painted pots for all of them! She even offered to help us get things out of the car when it was pouring rain outside.
