I just bought a puppy from Petland in Tyler on Easter weekend. He was diagnosed with anemia and dehydration within 36 hours of coming home with me. My vet stated the problem has been going on for a while. I got the medication and changed his food and he is doing much better now. I haven't even had the puppy two weeks yet and have spent over $1,000 at the vet. They state the puppy comes with a health guarantee but don't let that fool you. I started a claim with them only to find out that they will only reimburse for medications and nothing else. The will be sending me a check for $175. They won't pay for hospital bills or diagnostic tests. This place is a joke and should not be able to sell ANYTHING. THEY NEED TO BE SHUT DOWN. read more

DO YOUR RESEARCH FIRST. Petland is 100% puppy mills. Petland purchased puppies have a reputation for having to be euthanized after adoption because of various illnesses. Either that or an extremely high vet bill. Respiratory disease is the most common thing vets see due to the conditions they are living in with the high amount of dogs, poor ventilation and cleaning standards, and lack of veterinary care during their time in the puppy mill and Petland. Other situations vets see that don't necessarily end in death (but can) include an array of genetic problems, parvo, portosystemic shunts, or general failure to thrive issues like hypoglycemia. I'm not surprised since they eat, sleep, poop, and pee in cramped, tiny glass prisons. I went to visit the other day and a puppy was covered in its own fecal matter while the other one was trying to eat the poop. It's 24/7 torture for every animal here, like a chaotic petting zoo with no rest and love. I don't know how they are still in business. People still buy their animals every single day and with the vast amount of information and horror stories out there they are somehow still giving them business.. Sad. read more

We went into Petland on a fluke after seeing someone spinning a PUPPIES sign on the Loop. We'd been looking for a maltipoo puppy which are apparently hard to find around here. Well, God was in control because one had arrived 4 hours prior to our visit! She hadn't even been bathed yet when I insisted on seeing her and they gladly bathed her and brought her out to us. We already knew she was ours and despite the ridiculous price they charged us, we thought saving her life was far more important than the money. She did come with a cart full of puppy supplies including a crate, heartbeat pillow, toys, food and practically anything one might need who has never had a pet before. They manager did mislead us about vet bills and we caught on immediately that Petland is all about the money but again, saving the life of this precious girls was worth it. After getting her home, we discovered she had giardia. Three rounds of medication, washing bedding, etc daily for weeks at a time to ensure she heals, was a major inconvenience and we think Petland should have compensated us for the vet bills. Again, the life of the puppy meant more to us than the money so we decided to put that frustration aside. The vet this Petland uses is a story of its own and I have reviewed them as well. (Premier Veterinary Hospital on Broadway) They got one star. I give 2 stars to Petland because the young guy who initially assisted us and had the puppy bathed so we could meet her was friendly, understanding, and willing to go the extra mile. I bought two guinea pigs from this store on two separate occasions both females. One of them turned out to be pregnant. Not what I wanted but she was mine now . I kept the babies until they were done nursing from mom , gave them away and had one left . The tyler store told me I could surrender the last baby to them for them to sell only if I surrendered it with the cage . Their employees are rude, unprofessional, and possess zero knowledge about the animals in their care. Petland charges thousands of dollars for puppies that shouldn't cost nearly half their asking price, and the conditions that these poor puppies are living in are inexcusable. The animals stay in their tiny display cases with no human interaction or exercise other than when customers ask to see them, and they sit in their own feces for hours at a time. I was so shocked I completely forgot to take pictures. The puppies are so unstimulated and frustrated that they are borderline aggressive and they say it's simply "the puppy faze". No, it's not. These dogs are going insane doing nothing in those glass boxes with no toys or enrichment, and if you're going to charge me thousands for a puppy I would like for it to be taken care of prior to it being in my ownership. read more

Some friends of mine had a really poor experience when working with the associate named Richard in small animals when they visited just recently. Just really rude and snippy, unhelpful, and left a really bad taste in their mouths. Very unlikely to revisit the location due to this associate The area the small animals were kept in was absolutely rancid as well, it smelled like old litterboxes and puppy pads, and the reptiles were in sorry condition. I wish this place cared for the reptiles and amphibians like they do those dogs. Almost everytime i've been here i've seen multiple dead lizards and frogs. Once there was a chameleon that was dried up like they haven't checked on it in weeks. My husband bought a frog there once and they put on hand sanitizer to pick the frog up. and if they actually knew anything about these animals the only thing you put on your hands to touch a frog is soap and water!! these weirdos hold a snake once in their life and think they know everything. We've tried to call corporate multiple times. nothing ever changes. A frog we bought from there one time got a skin disease we brought it back to store and all the frogs from the same terrarium were all dead. they way they reacted it seemed like they didn't check on those frogs for days. most pets stores try to help your animal when it's sick. petsmart recommends you to a hospital for frogs!! i'm pretty sure they just took our frog to the back and threw it away. then had the audacity to ask if we just wanted a new one. don't give this company your money they suck read more

This is probably one of the worst places to purchase an animal or anything of the like. The best thing for this place would be to shut down. I came to just to check out their fish tanks for plants. They have really horrible looking fish tanks that have a problem with algae and snails. All the tanks are dimly lit with what seems to be a poor choice of fish and plants. Of course they have what everyone else has with nothing to set them apart from other pet like stores. The fish tanks again were, for me, a huge let down. How does a pet store have such crappy fish tanks that look like they would be better off broken down and completely rebuilt. They should shut this place down and start with all new tanks. My fiancé worked up here all of two hours when I get a call from her that she over heard the other girl workers talking mess about her and at the end called her a bitch. Keep in mind this is her first day and she has only been working there for two hours so there was no way she had pissed anybody off. BUYER BEWARE: We purchased a dog from them and spent several thousand dollars. When we went to pay for the dog, we were charged an additional $149.99 for the microchip and $149.99 for their puppy for a lifetime program, which we were told by our salesperson that this program was included in the price of the dog. When I called their customer service number about it, I was also told it was included and was transferred to "someone that could help me". That person told me that it was mandatory and not included. Essentially, the price they charge for the dog is actually $300 more because of their mandatory add ons. To top it off, we took the puppy to the vet 2 days after purchase and spent an additional $100+ because it had intestinal worms. Buyer beware if your looking for a pup here. read more

We got our dog to the vet first check up sick with Coccidia. Had to get that treated then 6 months down the road our pup keeps yelping while getting off the couch or after running.
