I love this location. We come here for all our Aquarium and small pet needs. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. We get pet supplies regularly. The location is clean, and animals appear to be well taken care of. If an employee can not answer a question, management is usually able to. I just recently acquired some goldfish and I hadn't had fish in a while so I went down there to get some helpful tips. The fish expert there took the time to give me a full education on the ammonia / nitrate / nitrite cycle of fish maintenance, with diagrams, tips and suggestions, answered all my questions and sent me on my way. I took a sample of my water and he pulled out his testing kit, told me what was wrong and how I could fix it. So I have or shall i say had a 6 month old red tail boa, and i used to buy little jojos food from a personal breeder. NEVER ALIVE MICE always dead. but my breeder just decided to stop what he was doing and move to BC. so I thought i could try petland for there froozen mice. I went and asked about it, Told them i needed 5 fuzzy mice frozzen. they didnt have a clue as to what size that was. That was my first incline that these guys havent a clue as to what there talking about. But after an hour of trying to exsplain they finaly got it right, i asked a series of questions but never got an exact answer. I then went home and unthawed 2 of them and put the rest in the freezer. it only takes a few minutes to dethaw them and when they were ready i fed them to her. she ate them fine and i let her have her day that night i turned her day light off and turned her night one on.she seemed fine but when i woke up she was dead. Keep in mind that all my reptiles and other animals are vet check all the time, so i knew there wasnt anything wrong with her. I then called my HERP vet and he asked me to bring her and the frozen mice in and i did it was later determied that the people at petland get there feeding mice from people who poisen them instead of a hit on the nose. my snake was poisened and i never even got a hey yea were sorry. i got a hey thats tuff. read more

My fiancé and I purchased a fish aquarium and equipment as well as many fish from this store 1 1/2 months ago. The pump on our tank suddenly stopped working. We called the store and spoke with a young man who clearly was unsure how to handle this situation. We advised that we wanted to simply bring it in and exchange for a new pump. We were informed we needed to wait for Brad (manager) to come in the next day and attend the store to speak with him about it . Brad works the same hours (9 am to 5 pm) Monday to Friday, which does not work for us . We asked to speak with another manager . After speaking with another manager we were advised we were past the 30 day return policy and could not do anything for us . We advised we had recently spend over 500.00 in their store for this entire set up and this is the response we get ? Not to mention they are referencing a 30 day return policy , we did not want to return we wanted to exchange. We were told to contact the manufacturer and they could send us a new one , in the mean time ( 1-2 weeks it would take to come ) our aquarium would otherwise be with out a pump. There was no resolution to our issue . I will not be spending another dollar in that store if this is the way that they will treat their customers . read more

One and a half years ago I bought two budgies for my son as a graduation gift, the person who worked there told us that one of them was a male and the other was a female, later that year we found out that both of them were male, but before I had the time to take them to the store, one of the budgies escaped while I was cleaning their cage so I went to the store to buy another budgie and showed them the old budgie (that was still in the cage) to confirm that it was a male, they said that it was a male so we bought a budgie that they told us was a female. After a while we noticed that the two were not getting along. since the same thing happened to us with the other budgie we found out that both of them were, once again, male and that was the reason that they were not getting along, so I asked the store if I could make a switch but they told me that they could not give me a reimbursement because the bird might have a disease even though they were not showing any signs of sickness, then they told me that they would take the bird back if we "surrendered" him and just hand him over, this frustrated me because they just told me that the bird might have a disease. I was really unimpressed with their costumer service and I had an all around bad experience, I just hope that they don't treat their animals with the same amount of care that they give their costumers. read more

I purchased a bearded dragon there a year ago and he passed away after a week of owning him. We took him to the vet the day before he passed and were told he was very young. We returned and got a replacement beardie and I fell in love with her. When we brought her home and she was covered in scabs from being overcrowded with other beardies. After what happened to our last beardie we took her to avian exotic vet to treat the scabs. They noticed some yellowing on her tail and vent, as suggested by a vet we got a scrape done to figure out what it was. 3 days later I got a phone call from the vet saying she had yellow fungus disease (a flesh eating disease that works from the inside out, by the time it's visible on the outside they've had to disease for awhile). We chose to put her to sleep as it's very painful, and although can be treated, can never be cured. It is highly contagious and we put our other reptiles at risk by keeping her. I will give petland props on the fact that they reimbursed me for the cost of my dragon, as well as her vet bills, and the cost to put her to sleep. But there needs to be routine check ups, proper sterlization of terrariums, and much less crowding in the tanks. I had to throw out the majority of my tank equipment in order to not contaminate a new beardie. I do appreciate them being easy and helpful financially wise, but their staff needs to be better trained on the reptiles, or not sell reptiles at all. read more
