Found a petite coffee shop with an amazing ube latte. The actual flavor of the ube comes through and goes well together as a latte, rather than the typical "sweet purple" that has been trending. The owner is also very friendly and we had pleasant small talk while they worked their magic into the drinks. There is indoor seating with A/C and outdoor seating with umbrellas for shade. A legit small coffee roaster and shop. They source, roast, and package their own beans in several sizings. One of the only shops I've ever seen selling "bean flights" (basically a pack of 4 miniature bags of beans you can grind and try, like a take-home beer flight). The coffee is great. The owner is a passionate guy who takes coffee seriously and also knows the business pretty well. I definitely recommend trying out a latte, cold brew, or "chagaccino". Was in the area for a Culture Shock event. I figured to chill here before it began. Here's how it went AMBIANCE: Parking: Street parking. It can get busy as there are businesses and apartments here. Seating: Limited. A seat or two inside and some umbrella seating outside. Maybe 3 groups, 10 people total. Vibes: This is close to Little Italy but not really. It's close to some other good spots such as Culture Shock Studios or Specialty Produce. The spot itself is pretty neat. You're welcomed with the hustle and bustle sounds and the smells of fresh coffee. No wifi but a good place for a grab and go or doing some off the grid work. FOOD: Matcha Lavender (Recommend) Smooth and calming. You have that earthy matcha with that smoothness from the milk and honey. Finally that lavender provides that fragrancy calm flavor. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Lilly was great! Friendly and professional especially during the busy rush. TL; DR OVERALL: 4 Stars. Great! Simple, delicious, and all. in a reasonable price. Nothing too flashy but if you're on the go and need some quality coffee this is a great spot. I can see why this place has existed for over two decades (good coffee and good service). We randomly ended up here after another nearby coffee shop, which we drove 15 minutes to come visit, was closed. We quickly searched Yelp and Making Good Coffee Co. was just down the road. The reviews were good but the service and drinks were even better than expected. We love supporting local business and even though this is nowhere near our house, we are adding it to the rotation. They roast their own beans and the guy who served us, who I assume is the owner, seemed so knowledgeable and like his main goal was for us to get the best drink possible. We got iced Americanos with various flavors, splashes of milk, etc. and they were delicious. The shop is located under the Culture Shock dance studio, just off the freeway, so it's a great place to grab and go. For those looking for artsy, Instagram vibes to post, this is not the place for that. For those looking for some good coffee and a quick bite, you have found a solid spot. This place is a hidden treasure tucked away in SD Middletown district. I was so happy to have found this place and even happier with my small latte which comes with two shots of expresso at a reasonable price. My latte was very smooth and had just the right amount of foam on top. Not only do they offer the standard expresso drinks but they have a Nitro cold brew and this place is also a roastery and can ship coffee to you. They have small snacks, ice cream, and a small pastry case with muffins and cakes. The woman at the counter was very warm and welcoming and quick to take my order and the place had a very laid back and homey feel. There are also a few tables outside. This coffee shop is super convenient since I also go to the climbing gym close by! I love love their variety of snacks available. Lots of healthy options, as well as some indulging options like their assorted pastries. One of my favs would be the fruit sticks, and then in the fridge they have chobani yogurt, with a perfect amount of granola to mix together for a nutrition packed snack, and I'd say it's a reasonable price for being chobani! The coffee for me is a hit and miss! I love their cold brew. Which is surprising because I don't usually like cold brew. But their cappuccino was alright for me. I also wish more coffee shops did a small version of their cappuccino, 12 Oz is just too much for me, but that's personal preferences! I do love their long list of flavors you can add into your drinks though. You don't see that many places and I love that. The shop owner though is so kind and welcoming and you can tell that he is passionate about what he does. I also love the outdoor seating. It's peaceful. Mark is the best! Super personable and good coffee. He actually puts care into his decaf knowing those of us who order it enjoy for the taste not the caffeine. We found Make Good Coffee Co. by chance when we saw it on the way to taking our son for his hip-hop class at Culture Shock on a Saturday. We walked into the small cafe and were immediately greeted by barista Marc's enthusiastically cheery personality. He recommended my husband try a lavender lemonade while I got a Mexican iced mocha. And wow. This is such a hidden gem. The lavender lemonade turned out so good hubby's returned several times for more. My Mexican mocha also elicited a happy "mmmm." Marc takes the kind of time and care necessary to create these delicious drinks. It's rare in this age of instant gratification and chain coffee spots. Good Coffee also offers a variety of other drinks, bottled refreshments, baked goods and an oatmeal bar. Coffee addicts can also pick up fresh beans for home brews. I am so happy with my oat milk latte, a maple oatmeal with pecans and raisins, and the perfect umbrella-shaded seat watching the planes takeoff from Lindbergh Field and the train passed by and have a little honk. The coffee was perfect and I'll definitely come back to try their drip. They have a super cool vintage roasting machine in the shop too. I love small businesses and this is definitely one to try out and support. The oatmeal from their oatmeal bar is gluten free so that was a definite plus for me and my belly. They only French press their coffees here, so I picked up a cup for only $2.50. The Joshua Bean Blend French Pressed coffee or house blend that I drank was terrific. The hot coffee provided a rich smoothness with hints of chocolate and berries. The coffee did not need any sugar because it already had a good natural sweetness and just a touch of acidity.
